January 21-27 is National Data Privacy Week. It's a good time to review the steps you're taking to protect your personal sensitive information and make any adjustments for the new year. Check your security settings on your devices, and especially when you set up a new device. Device manufacturers often release new security features with software updates, so stay updated and familiarize yourself with any new settings. Default passwords should be changed as soon as possible. Never email sensitive information; instead utilize client portals and secure file transfer systems. Review your bank and credit card statements regularly for any unfamiliar charges. Don't use public, unsecured wifi for things like banking and shopping. Set up alerts on your bank account and credit card accounts so you are immediately notified of any unusual spending. Set up an account on irs.gov to monitor your tax account, and request an Identity Protection PIN. Consider freezing your credit with the credit bureaus until you need to apply for a loan. For more tips on protecting your personal data, go to staysafeonline.org.
In today's world, it's essential to recognize the importance of safeguarding your personal information. From the moment you wake up and check your smartphone to the minute you stream your favorite show or make an online purchase, your every digital move leaves a trail of data breadcrumbs. But, you have the power to take charge of your data privacy. You can start by taking part in Data Privacy Week, sponsored by the National Cybersecurity Alliance. More info at HelpMeWithHIPAA.com/440

In this episode of Privacy Files, Rich and Sarah celebrate Data Privacy Week. Running January 22-28, 2023, this annual event, sponsored by the National Cybersecurity Alliance, is designed to raise awareness about online privacy. The mission is two-fold: help individuals understand that they have the power to manage their data and educate organizations on why it's important to respect their users' data. We kicked off the episode by covering the recent T-Mobile data breach where a hacker compromised the data of 37 million customers. This is the eighth time T-Mobile has been hacked since 2018. Data Privacy Week commemorates the January 28, 1981 signing of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection. Last year, the National Cybersecurity Alliance extended Data Privacy Day into Data Privacy Week. We cover how every online activity leaves a data trail linking back to you and your personally identifiable information. Then we give you a series of simple solutions to better protect your data. Both Rich and Sarah tell some personal stories that underscore the prevalence of data collection in our everyday lives. Then we wrap up the episode by talking about how MySudo, the world's only all-in-one privacy app, can help individuals live more privately, and how organizations can leverage privacy to acquire more customers and make them loyal. We're in a strange place in the cycle of Data Privacy. We give it away, but seem most concerned about it. Greg and Bill pull on some threads including social media, encryption, VPNs, and how we got here. Happy Data Privacy Week!

Crypto has deep roots in the privacy space. But today's bitcoiners aren't quite as skittish about sharing their ID as the maximalists of yesteryear were. This week on “Opinionated,” Lili Rhodes of Foundation Devices argues why they should. Keeping one's identity hidden – away from the government, from companies, from counterparties – is a table-stakes demand in the privacy game. Does it have to be? Anna Baydakova, Danny Nelson and Ben Schiller spar over the nature of modern-day privacy, where and why it's necessary, and whether bitcoin has been “corrupted” by those who link trades with names. For those who think it has, buying beyond the banks and exchanges is a must. Check out CoinDesk's “Privacy Week” package for an inside look. You scanned your ID at the bitcoin checkout, anon? Of course, every week should be "data privacy week", but we do set aside a specific time each year to focus on privacy - particularly educating as many people as possible about it. Until this year, we only dedicated one day for this - but as of 2022, it's been promoted to an entire week! Data Privacy Week runs from January 24-28, so today I'm going to prep you for it with several of my top privacy protection tips! In the news: the FBI uses foreign intelligence services to sidestep US surveillance restrictions; Russia takes down the REvil ransomware outfit as the United State's request; Google gives Android users the ability to disable insecure 2G cell connections; Subaru is sued in Illinois for capturing driver's biometric information with consent; lawmakers propose legislation to simplify and standardize terms of services agreements; and the Ponemon Institute releases the results of a recent poll on what people worry about with relation to privacy and what they feel should be done about it. The annual Privacy Week has begun in New Zealand. Karyn speaks with the Privacy Commissioner, John Edwards, about the new Privacy Act 2020 coming into effect in December.
This episode is a special one because this time only Raphael sat down to talk about what is happening in the company. He talks about the current state of the SPN and gives insight into our thought process during the release. He also gives a sneak peak of the talk he prepared for the Austrian Privacy Week. Was also tun?
