University of Virginia President Jim Ryan said at a press conference that today is “an unimaginably sad day” for the community as he read the names of the three people killed in a shooting last night near Culbreth Garage on UVA Grounds. “They were: Devin Chandler, a second-year from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Lavel Davis Jr, a third-year student from Ridgeville, South Carolina, and D'Sean Perry, a fourth-year student from Miami, Florida,” Ryan said. The suspect is Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. and he was reported to be at large during the press conference, but University of Virginia Police Chief Tim Longo was handed a message while in the middle of explaining that the suspect was known to UVA as a potential threat. “We've just received information that the suspect is in custody,” Longo said. In this edition of Charlottesville Community Engagement, more information about the incident:* The shootings took place on a charter bus that had returned from a field trip to see a play in Washington, D.C.* One of the two people wounded is in good condition and another is in critical condition. Both names are being withheld at this time * Hundreds of students remained in UVA buildings overnight as the search continued overnight When the sun rose this morning, the University of Virginia was on lockdown. News of the shooting reverberated throughout the community as schools were shut down to allow everyone to heed a shelter in place order. (read today's first installment) Here's what we know as the morning developed:The Daily Progress reported at around 8:30 a.m. that one of the victims is fourth-year student D'Sean Perry, a linebacker and defensive end for the University of Virginia football team. The information was confirmed by Perry's father. Perry is from Miami, Florida according to his page on Virginia Sports.Lavel Davis Jr., a third-year student and wide receiver on the football team, was confirmed as the second victim later on in the morning with one source being a tweet from a family member. Devin Chandler is a second-year student who played wide receiver according to his page on Virginia Sports. The suspect is Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr., a former member of the University of Virginia football team in 2018 who did not appear in any games according to Virginia Sports. More information came out at a press conference held at 11 a.m. At the time, Jones was still believed to be at large. “The families of all the victims have been notified and the University is providing any and every available assistance,” Ryan said. “I have spoke with four of the families and I spoke directly to the student who is in good condition.” This morning, UVA, Charlottesville, Albemarle and Virginia State Police conducted a thorough search of the University of Virginia before lifting the order at around 10:30 a.m. Classes have been canceled for the day as has tonight's scheduled men's basketball game. “The entire University community is grieving this morning,” Ryan said. “My heart is broken for the victims and their families and for all of those who knew and loved them and they are all in my prayers.” Ryan urged anyone to reach out for resources to get through the day. He then turned it over to Tim Longo, the former Charlottesville Police Chief who is now UVA's associate vice president for safety and security as well as chief of police. “This has been an incredibly long evening with very tragic circumstances for our University community, the city of Charlottesville, the county of Albemarle [and] the Commonwealth,” Longo said. Longo said the shots fired call came at 10:16 p.m. last night and the University then triggered the emergency alert system which kept people up to date on the situation through the night every fifteen minutes or so. “Since 10:16 p.m. up until just about 30 minutes ago, our students were sheltered in place where they were and more than 500 of them were sheltered in buildings throughout Grounds,” Longo said. “Studying in libraries, classrooms, and other places.” Longo said the victims were found on a charter bus near the garage.“Someone amongst them chose to do an act of violence and we found them dead inside that bus,” Longo said. That person is alleged to be Christopher Darnell Jones who Longo said had been charged with three counts of second degree murder as well three counts of using a handgun in the commission of a felony. “Those facts and circumstances were reviewed by a judicial officer and those are the charges that were proffered,” Longo said. “If there comes a point in time when those charges need to be amended and certain facts and circumstances arise that will cause us to do that, we'll do that.” Longo said Jones had been identified as a threat and was investigated this fall. “In September 22, our Office of Student Affairs reported to the multidisciplinary threat assessment team that Mr. Jones, they received information that Mr. Jones had made a comment about possessing a gun to a person to a person what was unaffiliated with the university,” Longo said. Longo said that information was reported without any indication of a pending threat, but his explanation of this was interrupted when he was handed information on the dais that Jones had been apprehended. “We've just received information that the suspect is in custody,” Longo said. “Give me just a moment here to thank God,” Longo said after a 23 second pause. CBS19 reported that the Virginia State Police the suspect was caught in Henrico County. Henrico Police posted their own press release soon after I originally sent out this publication:Longo said Jones had also been investigated for a previous hazing and was also known to have a previous incident involving a concealed weapon. Now what? I'll have more information in the next regular installment of Charlottesville Community Engagement. Take a look at the full press conference for more information. This is a public episode. VOLVO DISCUSSES EV ROADMAP WITH DEALERS – AUTOMOTIVE NEWS “Volvo Cars declared last year that it will be an all-electric brand by 2030. And last week in Miami, the automaker told its dealers how it plans to get there. The way forward? For starters, seven new and redesigned electrified models over the next few years, including five battery-electric vehicles and two plug-in hybrids.” “The new-vehicle onslaught will begin rolling out as early as next year, the Swedish automaker told a closed-door audience of about 800 retailers from across North and South America, according to people who attended the event and asked not to be identified.” “To pull it off, Volvo will begin ramping up plans to build more vehicles at its U.S. plant in Ridgeville, S.C., hiring more workers and introducing new models there” “The five new battery-electric vehicles it revealed last week include both a large and a small crossover, a sedan, and two sporty wagon-like models that Volvo executives referred to as "activity vehicles," according to the people who attended the meeting.” “The automaker also showed dealers redesigned versions of its S90 and XC90 plug-in hybrids. Volvo further charged up retailers with a forecast that should have significant profit ramifications for Volvo stores: The manufacturer said the new vehicle line will help retailers double their average store throughput to about 800 vehicles a year by 2025, dealers told Automotive News.” Original Source: https://www.autonews.com/cars-concepts/volvo-gives-dealers-its-road-map-ev-future CALIFORNIA LEADS THE NATION'S ZEV MARKET, SURPASSING 1 MILLION ELECTRIC VEHICLES SOLD - As California's booming zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) market continues to lead the nation, Governor Gavin Newsom lifted up the state surpassing 1 million plug-in electric cars, pickup trucks, SUVs and motorcycles sold in California – more than the total sales in the next 10 states combined. New data also show that California, with only 10 percent of the nation's cars, now accounts for over 40 percent of all zero-emission cars in the country. - The state has also implemented targeted policies to help more middle- and low-income consumers buy these ultra-clean vehicles. To date, over 30,000 low-income consumers have been assisted under the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, which will now only apply to affordably priced electric vehicles. - Over the past 10 years, annual sales of plug-in electric vehicles in California have gone from just 7,000 in 2011 to more than a quarter of a million sold in 2021, making up more than 12 percent of all light-duty vehicle sales last year. California also leads the nation in all other zero-emission vehicle metrics, including the highest level of public funding, the largest EV market share percentage and the most extensive public charging infrastructure. The executive delivered remarks about the production ramp-up during a Wolfe Research conference on February 24. - In a move to boost output, the CEO said Rivian idled the plant for the first 10 days of January to make changes on the production lines. - During the conference, RJ Scaringe also responded to a question about how big Rivian could become by 2030. As reported by Reuters, he said the company is aiming to take 10% share in the EV market. - As things stand at the moment, the main obstacle in Rivian's path is the production capacity. In January, the company was building around 200 vehicles per week, which is nowhere near enough to satisfy the existing demand in a reasonable amount of time. As of December 15, 2021, Rivian had about 71,000 preorders for the R1T and R1S in the US and Canada. This week, the EV startup unveiled the FF 91 at its Hanford, California-based plant, and announced it would begin production in Q3 of 2022. Since the best-laid plans of Faraday Future often go haywire, we won't hold our breath for the time being. - Faraday Future's flagship car is intended to be an “ultra-luxury EV” that can compete with the likes of Jaguar, Tesla, Polestar and other brands. It has three motors, which means that at least in terms of power, it would beat out even the newer Tesla models (except for the Cybertruck) and ostensibly be in the same league as Audi's E-tron crossover. The system horsepower is a jaw-dropping 1050, and it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.39 seconds. The seats are zero gravity (meaning they recline in a fashion that makes you feel weightless) and ventilated. They also double as massage chairs. - Drivers who can't wait to join in on Faraday's vision of a future can reserve an FF 91 now. There's a waitlist to join the FF 91 Futurist Alliance (which costs $5,000 but guarantees you a priority reservation), but you can still pay $1,500 for a standard reservation. Welcome to new PATREON PRODUCER JEREMY WARNER RECORD SHARE FOR WESTERN EUROPEAN EV REGISTRATIONS IN SEPTEMBER "The monthly share of new zero-emission BEV (Battery electric vehicle) passenger car registrations as a percentage of the total new car market achieved a new high in September. 15.3 per cent of all the new passenger cars entering West European roads during the closing month of the third quarter, were pure electric passenger cars, according to exclusive data published each month in Schmidt Automotive Research's in-depth monthly European Electric Car Data Trend Report." Matthias Schmidt writes: "Just under 136 thousand new pure electric cars entered the 18 market West European region monitored by the report each month. Despite volumes falling 30 thousand short of the all-time monthly volume high, recorded in December 2020, as passenger car manufacturers made a last-ditch attempt to meet newly phased-in CO2 fleet emission targets, achieving a 15.1 BEV per cent mix of the total market, the September BEV penetration of the 18-market region saw levels surpass that. A number of reasons impacted the new record in September, namely; the boost from Tesla's end of quarter volumes, achieving a monthly record of 34,000 units, or every fourth BEV – boosted by both the Model Y introduction and shipments from China – as well as the semiconductor situation deflating the total passenger car market." https://www.schmidtmatthias.de/post/western-european-zero-emission-passenger-car-registrations-achieved-a-new-record-share-in-september U.S. SALES UPDATES: ID.4, VOLVO, PORSCHE TAYCAN, MUSTANG MACH-E All from InsideEVs: "Volkswagen ID.4, sales improved slightly from 5,756 in Q2 to 6,049 in Q3, which probably will further increase over the next quarters. The ID.4 share out of the total Volkswagen sales was 7.6%. The company notes that its data indicates that more than two-thirds of ID.4 customers are switching from other brands." "The Volvo Recharge plug-in sub-brand accounted for about 18.2% of the total volume, which is about 1,700 units. In California, the share increased to a record high 52% so the company sells more plug-ins than non-plug-ins there. We estimate that the total plug-in volume in Q3 was 5,960. Volvo's Recharge lineup is currently comprised of a total of seven models, two all-electric (the C40 is coming soon) and five plug-in hybrids. By 2030, all Volvo models wiil become be completely electric. In 2022, the company plans to launch the electric successor of the XC90, based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA2), that will be produced in Ridgeville, South Carolina, together with the Polestar 3, also based on the SPA2." "The Taycan/Taycan Cross Turismo (all versions) sales increased marginally, by 0.2% year-over-year to 1,861, far behind the outstanding Q2 result, but enough to remain the third best selling Porsche model. The all-electric Porsche stands for nearly 12.2% of all Porsche sales during the period. Porsche's BEV lineup currently consists a total of nine Taycan/Taycan Cross Turismo versions:" "In the case of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, in September sales amounted to 1,578 (1.1% of Ford's total result) - below the monthly average so far this year. The total volume in the Q3 was 5,880. "Mustang Mach-E retail sales expanded 9.2 percent in September. With 18,855 Mach-Es sold through September, Mach-E ranks second in full electric SUV sales behind Tesla's Model Y. Over-the-air modem activation rates for Mach-E are the highest in Ford's portfolio at 97 percent." The gross stock of Mach-E is at about 5,000 in the U.S. (at dealerships and in transport, we assume). That's two times more than the 2,600 we noted in August." https://insideevs.com/news/538003/us-volkswagen-id4-sales-2021q3 https://insideevs.com/news/538106/us-volvo-recharge-sales-september2021 https://insideevs.com/news/538000/us-porsche-taycan-sales-2021q3 https://insideevs.com/news/538343/us-ford-mache-sales-2021q3/ 800 VOLT CHARGING GOING MAINSTREAM "Porsche designed the Taycan to also be compatible with the existing 400 V DC fast-charging infrastructure. The car comes with 50 kW capability as standard, with a 150 kW unit as an option GM, with its wide ranging product lineup is designing the Ultium modular electric powertrain so that it can underpin both 400 V and 800 V applications. So while most vehicles will initially have 400 V battery packs capable of fast-charging up to 200 kW, the larger truck platform on which the GMC Hummer is built, will support 800 V with a 350 kW fast-charging capability." says Electronics 360: "Another mainstream, high-volume brand already planning to implement the 800 V powernet is Hyundai. The recently announced Ioniq 5, based on the new and dedicated E-GMP EV platform, will have an 800 V architecture that can be charged at 232 kW. Confirming the growing interest in 800 V charging, power electronics suppliers Delphi Technologies and Hitachi have both developed 800 V inverters. Delphi claiming that it will be supplying its 800 V “Viper” inverter to three out of the top four global premium automakers by 2024." https://electronics360.globalspec.com/article/17190/will-800-v-charging-become-the-ev-industry-norm CITROEN SAYS IT HAS ALREADY TAKEN MORE THAN 1,000 ORDERS FOR AMI "With the fuel delivery crisis still rumbling on and petrol prices expected to rise by around 5p-a-litre in the coming days, more drivers are reportedly considering buying an electric vehicle. The latest EV due to hit the market next year is Citroen's diminutive Ami, which is as long as a standard UK parking space is wide and has a range of just 46 miles." according to thisismoney: "The French maker, having confirmed that it will sell the tiny battery model in Britain from 2022 just a fortnight ago, says it has already taken over 1,000 reservations online. A total of 1,130 pre-orders have been placed on the car company's UK website, which requires a £250 deposit that is refunded if the driver changes their mind. The Ami uses a 5.5kWh battery that recharges in three hours from a conventional domestic socket. This provides a top speed of just 28mph and a claimed range of 46 miles." https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-10056649/Citroen-says-taken-1-000-orders-6-000-Ami-EV.html?utm_source=pocket_mylist VOLVO CARS IS COMPLETING PLANS FOR IPO IN STOCKHOLM "Volvo Cars, the Swedish auto maker owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. of China, is completing plans for an initial public offering and is set to announce details of the listing as early as Monday, in a deal that could value the car maker at as much as $25 billion, according to people familiar with the matter." says WSJ.com: "A listing, if it goes ahead, would represent one of the car industry's most dramatic turnarounds. Ford Motor Co. , weakened by the global financial crisis, sold the Swedish company to Geely for $1.8 billion in 2010." https://www.wsj.com/articles/volvo-cars-is-finalizing-plans-for-ipo-in-stockholm-11633283394 ELECTRIC CAR SALES COULD 'REDUCE ENERGY BILLS' FOR ALL UK CONSUMERS "ELECTRIC car sales could reduce energy bills for everyone across the UK, according to a new report from Ofgem. They have predicted a high number of electric cars could reduce costs for all bill payers, including non EV owners. They said EV's will allow the electricity network to work better which would then reduce average costs." writes the Express: "Ofgem said the market was currently trying to introduce products and services tailored specifically towards electric car owners. These EV tariffs offer cheaper rates overnight to encourage owners to charge their car at off-peak periods. However, they said energy supply was increasingly being bundled in with electric car services." “We believe that high numbers of EVs on the system could reduce total costs of energy for everyone, even non EV owners, particularly if [it] is the norm that EVs charge in ‘off-peak' hours, using smart charging. EV owners are expected to benefit from cheaper running costs of EVs compared to petrol or diesel vehicles, but non-EV owners will also benefit. This is because EVs will enable a better utilisation of the electricity network and generation assets, thereby reducing unit costs.” https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/1500116/electric-cars-sales-energy-bills-savings-ofgem-report-uk GERMANY'S BMVI OPENS TENDER PROCESS FOR NATIONAL FAST-CHARGING NETWORK "Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) opened the tender process for the national fast-charging network: Deutschlandnetz. Companies and company consortia can compete for the bid to set up and operate around 900 fast-charging locations throughout Germany. (Earlier post.)" says Green Car Congres: "The Germany network is intended to ensure the basic supply with fast charging infrastructure in medium and long-haul traffic with around 8,000 additional fast charging points. It complements the already existing large fast-charging locations and thus ensures a nationwide and needs-based fast-charging infrastructure throughout Germany. In a second tender, the construction and operation of around 200 fast-charging locations at unmanaged rest areas on the federal motorways will be tendered. The tendering of the nationwide motorway lots will be carried out in autumn by the Autobahn GmbH." https://www.greencarcongress.com/2021/10/20211004-bmvi.html HUMMER EV DRIVEN BY TOM MOLOUGHNEY https://insideevs.com/reviews/538170/hummer-ev-first-drive-review/ 80 ACTIVISTS BLOCK SHELL'S PORT TO PROTEST AGAINST ‘GREENWASHING' ADVERTS https://www.euronews.com/green/2021/10/04/climate-ngos-launch-campaign-to-ban-fossil-fuel-adverts-in-the-eu NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM Returns on Sunday 10th October! If you've been following the show you've heard I'm changing up boats this year. Going with the Key West 230 Bay Reef to fish the Lady Bass Angler Association Tournaments, take Freedom Boat Club members out to fish, and more! While I absolutely loved my Qwest Pontoon, and will more than likely add a pontoon back into the mix down the road, I'm really excited about the opportunity to change things up and experience fishing from a center console. I recently had the opportunity to visit the Key West Headquarters located not in Key West, FL, but in Ridgeville, SC (which was a whole lot closer of a drive from Nashville, TN than it would have been to Key West!). It was amazing to see how these unsinkable boats are constructed. At the end of the tour, we met our very own 230 Bay Reef and she is a beauty! From there we took her out on a local pond for a test run and got to see what she can do with that Yamaha 250 VMAX SHO pairing. Let me tell you, it takes off like a dream! I cannot wait for the rigging to get finished up at The Boat Locker in Nashville and to get her back out on the water! From there, I went back to the brand new Key West offices and sat down with Mike and Tom Marlowe to talk a little bit about Key West Boats, the 230 Bay Reef, and more. Side note: Follow Mike Marlowe as he embarks on the 2021 Skiff Challenge supporting Captains for Clean Water. This year, five boat companies will put their 18-foot skiffs and best teams to the ultimate endurance test, circumnavigating the 1,300 mile Florida peninsula in nearshore waters from state line to state line. Show #668 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday 16th January 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. VW CEO SAYS CARMAKER FACES SAME FATE AS NOKIA WITHOUT URGENT REFORMS "Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) needs to accelerate the overhaul of its business to avoid becoming another Nokia (NOKIA.HE), which lost its dominance in the handset market to Apple (AAPL.O), the German carmaker’s chief executive said." and reported by Reuters today: "VW will cut resources devoted to fuel cells, since they will not be as competitive as battery electric drivertrains for at least another decade. VW will also slash costs at its MOIA mobility services unit." Diess said: "The big questions is: Are we fast enough? If we continue at our current speed, it is going to be very tough. The era of the classic carmakers is over. In summary this is probably the most difficult challenge Volkswagen has ever faced." https://www.reuters.com/article/us-volkswagen-strategy-diess/vw-ceo-says-carmaker-faces-same-fate-as-nokia-without-urgent-reforms-idUSKBN1ZF1OB FOXCONN AND FIAT CHRYSLER WILL MAKE ELECTRIC CARS FOR CHINA "iPhone manufacturer Foxconn is getting into the electric vehicle game, thanks to a planned joint venture with Italian-American automaker Fiat Chrysler (FCA). Foxconn announced on Thursday that the two companies will combine forces to make vehicles for the Chinese market, with FCA handling the manufacturing and the Taiwanese tech giant managing the electronics and software." wrties The Verge: "FCA, which oversees its eponymous brands as well as ones like Jeep and Dodge, has lagged behind its competitors in embracing electric vehicle technology. The company recently kicked off a merger with French automaker PSA Group, which makes cars under the Peugeot and Citroën brands (among others), partly in order to better attack the changing automotive landscape" https://www.theverge.com/2020/1/16/21069288/foxconn-fiat-chrysler-electric-vehicles-china-joint-venture PLUG-IN ELECTRIC CAR SALES IN GERMANY DOUBLED IN DECEMBER 2019 From the InsideEVs Sales SCorecard: "Passenger plug-in electric car sales in Germany doubled in December, reaching the second-highest monthly level ever of 11,328 new registrations (up 98% year-over-year). The market share also improved to a near-record level, standing at 4.0%. That's one in every 25 new passenger cars. 2019 ended with 108,629 new passenger plug-in car registrations in Germany, which makes the country the biggest European market for EVs right now. The year-over-year growth amounted to 61%, while the average market share stands at 3%." https://insideevs.com/news/393067/plugin-car-sales-germany-december-2019/ VOLVO WILL BUILD NEW U.S. BATTERY PLANT TO HELP LAUNCH ELECTRIC XC90 Volvo will build its own U.S. battery assembly plant as it readies a line of electric vehicles for this market. The expansion is part of a previously announced $600 million project that the Swedish automaker has begun at its plant in Ridgeville, S.C., which includes a second production line and Volvo Car University." says Autonews.com: "Volvo will create an electric version of its next XC90 crossover and build it at the plant starting in late 2022. The factory, 45 miles northwest of Charleston, employs about 1,500 workers building the S60 sedan. The South Carolina plant will become the global production center for the third-generation XC90 flagship crossover" https://www.autonews.com/automakers-suppliers/volvo-building-us-battery-assembly-plant LEAF GETS CHEAPER "The Nissan LEAF is no longer the front-runner of electric cars and Nissan knows it. However, instead of introducing major changes to the LEAF, Nissan is pushing for a cheaper price to remain relevant." according to Pedro at PushEVs: "Now Nissan introduced a cheaper entry-level trim with a slower 3,6 kW on-board charger and without dual USB ports for the rear seats. Nonetheless, the price difference between the two cheapest trim levels can vary a lot from country to country. The new entry-level trim only seems tempting in Spain where it starts at 25.900 euros, which is 4.000 euros cheaper than the second cheapest trim level available. In other countries the difference between the two cheapest trim levels is a lot smaller and might not be worth it." https://pushevs.com/2020/01/16/nissan-leaf-gets-cheaper/ THE CHEVROLET BOLT IS HEADED TO CHINA AS A BUICK SUV "When spy photos of what appeared to be Chevrolet Bolt EV with some minor front- and rear-end updates circulated last week, Autoblog surmised that GM was working on some sort of Bolt-based vehicle — potentially a crossover — to be sold in China as a Buick." says Byron at Autoblog: "On Thursday, Motor1.com spotted a story published earlier this week on the Chinese site Auto Home which claims that GM has applied to sell an all-electric SUV under the Velite 7 nameplate in China. There's little differentiating the Velite 7's exterior from the Bolt EV's, apart from bumpers, badges, and a little extra ground clearance. Up front, the bowtie is replaced by a round Buick badge, and the bumper picks up an almost Prius-like appearance thanks to contrasting vertical elements and a thin grille bleeding into the head lights to give it a full-width appearance." https://www.autoblog.com/2020/01/16/buick-velite-ev-china/ TESLA RESPONDS TO GIGAFACTORY 4 PROTESTS BY SWIFTLY OPENING COMMUNITY OFFICE "Tesla has responded to local protests at the site of their next factory near Berlin by opening a community office to hear local concerns, according to Der Spiegel. The office opens Thursday, just a few days after site protests began." reports Electrek: "About 50 protesters gathered at the gigafactory site earlier this week to protest the plan. Their main concern was about the lack of public participation in the project. Tesla will now open a community office to hear those public concerns, as confirmed by Jörg Steinbach, Brandenburg’s minister of economics. Steinbach hopes that the opening of the community office will help to relax the situation between the protesters and Tesla." https://ww.electrek.co/2020/01/16/tesla-responds-gigafactory-4-protests-swiftly-community-office/# HONDA & MOIXA LAUNCH THEIR FIRST V2G PROJECT IN LONDON "Honda and Moixa have teamed up to launch the first fruit of their pan-European cooperation. Smart chargers with vehicle-to-grid technology have been installed in London’s borough Islington and foretell a future of bi-directional charging via CCS." says electrive: "For now, the project sees three smart charging stations located at the private parking space of Islington council with two more to come. Honda, together with its Swiss partner EVTec sign responsible for the station design. It is decidedly more compact than other V2G-capable charging stations and offers both ChaDeMo and CCS charging. The latter is a novelty as Honda claims that this will enable the first bi-directional charging capability via CCS, once the Honda E arrives this summer. For the time being, however, Islington Council runs a fleet of five Nissan eNV200 electric vans for a 12-month trial period and staff alone. The EVs charge with ChaDeMo and are capable of pushing energy back into the grid at 10 kW." https://www.electrive.com/2020/01/16/honda-moixa-launch-their-first-v2g-project-in-london/ NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week… Which car company would you like to see doing more to embrace electrification? Willie Baptist, a leader in the movement to end poverty, shares some of his experiences working with the Kensington Welfare Rights Union in Philadelphia. Much of the work that the KWRU did relied on its being a cross-racial movement, and Mr. Baptist explains how deep racial divisions are overcome when the focus is put on people's common struggles. This piece was produced by Dan Jones.
