VOLVO DISCUSSES EV ROADMAP WITH DEALERS – AUTOMOTIVE NEWS “Volvo Cars declared last year that it will be an all-electric brand by 2030. And last week in Miami, the automaker told its dealers how it plans to get there. The way forward? For starters, seven new and redesigned electrified models over the next few years, including five battery-electric vehicles and two plug-in hybrids.” “The new-vehicle onslaught will begin rolling out as early as next year, the Swedish automaker told a closed-door audience of about 800 retailers from across North and South America, according to people who attended the event and asked not to be identified.” “To pull it off, Volvo will begin ramping up plans to build more vehicles at its U.S. plant in Ridgeville, S.C., hiring more workers and introducing new models there” “The five new battery-electric vehicles it revealed last week include both a large and a small crossover, a sedan, and two sporty wagon-like models that Volvo executives referred to as "activity vehicles," according to the people who attended the meeting.” “The automaker also showed dealers redesigned versions of its S90 and XC90 plug-in hybrids. Volvo further charged up retailers with a forecast that should have significant profit ramifications for Volvo stores: The manufacturer said the new vehicle line will help retailers double their average store throughput to about 800 vehicles a year by 2025, dealers told Automotive News.” Original Source: https://www.autonews.com/cars-concepts/volvo-gives-dealers-its-road-map-ev-future CALIFORNIA LEADS THE NATION'S ZEV MARKET, SURPASSING 1 MILLION ELECTRIC VEHICLES SOLD - As California's booming zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) market continues to lead the nation, Governor Gavin Newsom lifted up the state surpassing 1 million plug-in electric cars, pickup trucks, SUVs and motorcycles sold in California – more than the total sales in the next 10 states combined. New data also show that California, with only 10 percent of the nation's cars, now accounts for over 40 percent of all zero-emission cars in the country. - The state has also implemented targeted policies to help more middle- and low-income consumers buy these ultra-clean vehicles. To date, over 30,000 low-income consumers have been assisted under the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project, which will now only apply to affordably priced electric vehicles. - Over the past 10 years, annual sales of plug-in electric vehicles in California have gone from just 7,000 in 2011 to more than a quarter of a million sold in 2021, making up more than 12 percent of all light-duty vehicle sales last year. California also leads the nation in all other zero-emission vehicle metrics, including the highest level of public funding, the largest EV market share percentage and the most extensive public charging infrastructure. As reported by Reuters, he said the company is aiming to take 10% share in the EV market. - As things stand at the moment, the main obstacle in Rivian's path is the production capacity. In January, the company was building around 200 vehicles per week, which is nowhere near enough to satisfy the existing demand in a reasonable amount of time. As of December 15, 2021, Rivian had about 71,000 preorders for the R1T and R1S in the US and Canada. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/569904/rivian-making-progress-production-ramp FARADAY FUTURE IS PREPARING TO ACTUALLY SELL ITS FF 91 - Despite a litany of financial struggles and botched factory plans, Faraday Future has built its first production-intent car. This week, the EV startup unveiled the FF 91 at its Hanford, California-based plant, and announced it would begin production in Q3 of 2022. Since the best-laid plans of Faraday Future often go haywire, we won't hold our breath for the time being. - Faraday Future's flagship car is intended to be an “ultra-luxury EV” that can compete with the likes of Jaguar, Tesla, Polestar and other brands. It has three motors, which means that at least in terms of power, it would beat out even the newer Tesla models (except for the Cybertruck) and ostensibly be in the same league as Audi's E-tron crossover. The system horsepower is a jaw-dropping 1050, and it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.39 seconds. The seats are zero gravity (meaning they recline in a fashion that makes you feel weightless) and ventilated. They also double as massage chairs. - Drivers who can't wait to join in on Faraday's vision of a future can reserve an FF 91 now. There's a waitlist to join the FF 91 Futurist Alliance (which costs $5,000 but guarantees you a priority reservation), but you can still pay $1,500 for a standard reservation. In addition to the growth of the size of ecommerce markets, there has been an explosion in the value of ecommerce businesses, and specifically  brands with a focus on Amazon FBA, especially private label or custom product brands.  Amazon Aggregators are now a key type of FBA business buyer . They have from a theoretical concept to huge players (with massive funding) within under 3 years. But what are the underlying factors behind this rise? What is driving this explosive growth of eCommerce Aggregators? Who is funding them? And can the growth continue?  To answer that question we have two experts from the research division of Global Wired Advisors. With a background in Wall Street, they bring some investment rigour to analysing Amazon Aggregators. Together we explore what is going on with Aggregators, where they've come from and what might happen next in this exciting development.  In the end, the majority of all the cash you ever make on Amazon could end up being made by selling to an aggregator. That being the case, you need to understand who you're dealing with!   If you own an Amazon-focussed custom product or private label brand, it's time to really understand these increasingly well-funded and active Amazon players. Tom welcomes John Roque back to the show. John is senior managing director and head of technical strategy for 22V Research. Gold is showing decent relative strength. We're in a commodity cycle since the Covid low of 2020. He is uncertain if gold will participate because of inflation or if it will outperform during periods of deflation. He wonders if gold is hindered because of a lack of investor interest. At an institutional level gold may not have the interest of fund managers. Those with good experiences in gold markets are few and far between in this era. John discusses his experiences with those that invest in gold over his career. The Fed balance sheet is at unprecedented heights and we see speculation across all asset classes. Gold remains restricted with many investors tired of looking at it. For this reason, gold may be a good contrarian play. Crypto is an easy asset to acquire in this era and many believe that it only goes up. He discusses some of the controversial players in the Bitcoin space including MicroStrategy and El Salvador. Gold might be starting to outperform and it carries a lot less risk. He discusses how ESG mandates are pushing more investors toward technology and this has caused issues with capital in other sectors like energy and resources. The only way investors will embrace other sectors is when tech fails to participate. No one is prepared for tech to underperform. He doesn't believe the Fed was evaluating the CPI number properly. They seem to have overlooked the data. Historically, CPI can get quite non-transitory for extended periods. The PPI shows that the S&P often has problems when inflation gets high. Inflation will likely be even higher by the end of the year. John expects the Fed will closely watch the S&P and do their best to keep it propped up. If it comes under pressure their confidence to taper will falter. The concentration occurring in the S&P is quite concerning and there is plenty of room for investors to get hurt. Very few people can get away with saying “I’m gonna move fast and not treat you like 3rd graders so you are going to have to keep up”. My guest this week is one of them. Paul Sankey has had a deep history with the energy industry and my favorite thing, analysis, data and figuring out where things are going and how people tick. If you know Paul, you know this was a great conversation. If you don’t know Paul, you should listen and follow his research. Hope you enjoy.   #hottakeoftheday Episode 73 w/Paul Sankey https://youtu.be/8u7M6UdlLAQ   Audio Podcast   About Paul Paul Sankey, the widely-followed oil analyst who was first to call for negative oil prices when COVID began impacting world markets, started his own research firm Sankey Research, breaking free from the limitations of Big Bank agendas. He has ranked “all-American” research analyst many times since arriving on Wall Street in 2004 to follow US oil & gas markets and equities. Among other recognized calls, Sankey tagged premium oil company EOG “The Apple of Oil”, ExxonMobil “The Big Unit”, pushed “The Diamond Age of Refining” over the past decade for US refiners, and has called for “The Renaissance” in US Exploration and Production in terms of companies reducing growth, reducing debt, and increasing cash return to shareholders. He has also styled himself an “analyst as activist” and heavily covered controversies such as Chevron vs Oxy for Anadarko, and most recently the sum-of-the-parts argument around Marathon Petroleum. Sankey started covering oil in 1990 out of Manchester University, joining the IEA in Paris, with subsequent stints at Wood Mackenzie, Deutsche Bank, Wolfe Research, and most recently Mizuho. He has ranked consistently highly or #1 in many investor surveys since becoming a sellside analyst in 2000.

Steve Fleishman is a Managing Director and Senior Analyst at Wolfe Research. Steve and his team cover the utilities, power, renewables, and midstream sectors at Wolfe Research. Steve has been Wall Street’s top-ranked utility analyst 14 times, so it’s an enormous honor to have him on the podcast! Tune in to hear Steve provide a great utility primer including a brief history of utilities, trends he and his team are following, and some of his thoughts on utility valuations today. Steve agreed to come onto the program to give listeners of The Stock Podcast a utility primer. So, if you have an interest in utility investing, or you just like to gain an understanding of how utility investors think about the sector, this episode may be what you’re looking for. You may recall from the Chris Sighinolfi interview that sector specialists like Steve know their industries forward and backward and Steve is a prime example of this. Steve has a reputation for being an extremely thoughtful analyst. If you listen to an earnings call with any of the big utilities, you’ll hear why. He asks questions that, in and of themselves, have a lot of meaning. Apart from being one of the best analysts on Wall Street, Steve is one of the nicest guys I’ve met in the industry. He’s genuinely concerned about people, as well as their stock-picking performance. He was also one of a handful of Wall Street analysts that actually reached out to me after I quit my job to start this podcast. I consider myself fortunate to be able to call Steve a friend and he’s doing me and my listeners a big honor by coming onto the podcast.
