With both eyesight and hearing fading, Gladstone couldn't last long after his defeat on Home Rule. Though he lasted as long as he could. Even after almost the entire cabinet prevented him from blocking an increase in naval expenditure, demanded by the admirals, and which he feared would merely add fuel to the fire of an arms race, he still clung on for a while longer. Finally though, in February 1898 he went. But who would replace him? Would it be Spencer, his favoured candidate despite having opposed Gladstone over the naval expenditure? Well, Victoria didn't even do him the courtesy of consulting him about his successor, so what he favoured didn't matter. Might it be Harcourt, the Chancellor and ‘little Englander' whose cautious view of imperialism was in line with thinking across the mainstream of the Liberal Party? Or would it be the Liberal Imperialist Rosebery, who'd keep the party firmly anchored to its right wing? Well, Victoria was quite an imperialist herself. Rosebery was picked. He head a short-lived, inglorious government, torn by internal dissension – Harcourt couldn't forgive him for depriving him of a position to which he thought he was entitled – which fifteen months later simply imploded and meekly resigned, letting Salisbury form his third administration. The 1892 election had given Gladstone his chance to form yet another government and establish two new records: the only man to have been Prime Minister on four different occasions, and the oldest man ever to have held the post. He formed a government which gave the young Asquith his chance to shine in a senior position, which he certainly did. It also gave the Earl of Rosebery, dithering about it until the end, playing hard to get, blowing hot and cold, the position of Foreign Secretary and a platform, as we shall see, to go still further before long. Finally, it was a government which had some valuable achievements in its short existence. But one achievement that eluded it was the aim on which Gladstone had set his heart. He got Irish Home Rule through the House of Commons, only to see it thrown out by the House of Lords. What might have turned into a posthumous victory for Parnell, turned instead into his final failure. This episode asks to what extent that was a missed opportunity but leaves the answer to you to choose. On the other hand, the bloodshed in the 130 years since Gladstone's second Home Rule Bill was defeated, is easy to judge. Simply, unequivocally, it is the stuff of tragedy. By no means the first in the long sad history of Anglo-Irish relations, but it would be a relief if it turned out to be the last. Andy was an elite basketball player and full-time electrician before becoming a Masterchef contestant and then winner, in season 4. After that, he became a trainee chef at Three Blue Ducks restaurants, head chef at their Rosebery establishment, and then a co-owner of the group. In 2019, he returned to Masterchef as a judge. And that’s where he is today, while also working every spare moment he can get at the Three Blue Ducks restaurants. The Faction Election War Won (27) (Audio) New Plague Defeated For and By the Saints Claire Pienaar 10/6/2020 (David’s notes in red) I dreamed I was in a rondawel-type setting – an African round clay house with a thatched grass roof; a round dwelling with open windows (no glass). It was large and there were many rooms that went off into various directions within the house. There was lush, green vegetation all around and the smell of meat being braaied/BBQ’d. (The Saints, meaning sanctified ones, who keep covenant by sacrifice of their flesh in the firey trial that are an aroma to God.) It was night time. There were many saints in there - Joe Brits was one of them. It looked like an old restaurant I used to work at as a hostess when I was a student called “Tribes” (All the nations/gentiles who are called are together by faith and belong together - Romans 1:5-6 through whom we received grace and apostleship, unto obedience of faith among all the nations, for his name’s sake among whom are ye also, called to be Jesus Christ’s). I went over to the front door, and saw a really tiny little snake slither in. It looked more like a tapeworm it was so small but I over-reacted. (This represents the overreaction to what Covid 19 has become. As all man made diseases it deteriorated; in this case from the L strain to S strain shortly after its creation in Wuhan until it is much like the flu now.) I screamed and said “Get that snake out of here!”. (This being said because this plague has no rights in the sanctified house of God. Remember the serpent on the pole was a symbol of God having taken the curse of the bite of the fiery serpents. The medical establishment stole this symbol but they have no rights to it. It is a symbol that Jesus Christ, who became accursed for us, bore our curse of sin and death on the cross, including sickness. “By whose stripes you were healed”. Num 21:4-9 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way. 5 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. [Representing their hatred for the word of God which brings us out from under the curse of sin and death, including sickness] 6 And Jehovah sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. [In Deu 28 God specifically taught over and over that He sent the curse to turn man away from sin and to Him, so that they could have eternal life. The snake bite is the curse that brings death. As Paul said in Rom 8 “If ye walk after the flesh ye must die”. My dad had a saying and I am not sure he knew where it cam from. He spoke of people who just seemed cursed, saying he or she is "snake bit”. If you are under a curse what would save you from this plague? Find out why its there and how to get rid of it. See God’s Vaccine 7 And the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, because we have spoken against Jehovah, and against thee [The first step is to repent of sin and stop calling God a liar. Agree with Him and you will be healed and healthy. Gal 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us; for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree [the cross]: 1Pe 2:24 who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.]; See God’s Vaccine Pray unto Jehovah, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. 8 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent [The serpent is a symbol of sin] , and set it upon a standard [the cross]: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten [by sin and its curse], when he seeth it, shall live. 9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and set it upon the standard: and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked unto the serpent of brass, he lived. (I.e. Repent, change your mind, and get your eyes on the fact that Jesus already took away the curse so you could be healed and healthy.) I said “Get that snake out of here!” not out of fear, just out of indignation that it would even try to come into our space. Just then, a HUGE snake appeared and slithered behind the little snake – it looked like a Mozambique Python. It swallowed up the little wormy-snake. (This plague is the one we have warned of, to the President and our broadcast community. Everyone will forget Covid 19 when as the new man made plagues appear. And of course it will be blamed on the new strain of covid so they can vaccine you to death while you cry for a vaccine instead of the Lord.) It turned and looked at me and opened his mouth wide and bared his fangs and said, “You’re next”. I was pretty scared then! (The left will try to scare everyone into submission to their plague; the vaccine.) I turned to see who would help me, and I saw an old friend from primary school. His name is Duran, which means “firm, enduring”. (He represents firm faith in the promises, in this case for health, that endures to see it fulfilled. Mat 24:13 But he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved. Jas 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love him. 1Pe 2:24 who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed. Exo 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and there shall no plague be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. Psa 91:10 There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy tent. Zec 14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith Jehovah will smite all the peoples that have warred against Jerusalem (the Bride): their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their sockets, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. He walked over to the snake and distracted it by throwing something [sin] outside the house. (The cleansing of the Church makes it powerful and gives it our rights of immunity. Pro 10:2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing; But righteousness delivereth from death. 1Jn 1:7-9 but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.). The snake turned to see what was thrown out. (His fear is that you will repent and throw your sins out! The spirit of infirmity and sickness has authority when sin is in the house. He was checking to see what authority he just lost. Exo 15:26 and he said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his eyes, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon thee, which I have put upon the Egyptians: for I am Jehovah that healeth thee. (Here is your vaccine. Repent and believe.) As it was turned, Duran picked up a small vaccine and thrust the shiny metal needle into the back of the snake’s neck. (The “vaccine” for the plague is the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Like as shown in the book by David Eells, "God’s Vaccine”. Even one “small” word, in faith, will kill the enemy Ephesians 6:17: and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God). The snake turned around and wailed saying, “This will be the death of me!”. I was so glad Duran [endurance in faith] was there. I said, “Do you think it’ll be enough to kill him?” and he said, “yep. But he’s going to suffer first”. (This plague will cause suffering and hopefully give people time to repent before they die. The saints, meaning sanctified ones, will be preserved. We were on the top floor, where the managers were. She was asking me things about David’s teachings and I was showing her scripture on my phone to help her understand. (Our workplace is in the kingdom – the same place where David and Michael work). Then I went to shower in the change room (part of our job is to “keep clean” and always be washing with the water of the word, renewing our minds in Christ). I realised my name was being called over the intercom. I went to the designated room (again, on the 2nd floor which was the top floor), and I saw this sister standing there with the Health & Safety Officer. He was a tall man with a mustache and had black pants on with a grey and black golf shirt on (walking in darkness with a dark heart) that had a thin red line running through it (the colors of his clothing represents that he is submitted to death and destruction). In the dream, he is “fictitious” in that I have never laid eyes on someone who looks like this in the natural. (He represents a factious spirit) They were talking about someone who they wanted to put through disciplinary action and “take out”. And then mentioned “Michael is complicit”. (This is their evil opinion as faction does. They blame others for their own sins just like the leftists are doing.) I said, “who are you talking about?” They spoke on like they never heard me, or that they expected me to know and have the same opinion as them. Then the sister said, “I don’t care if he’s the mine manager (Mining the silver and gold of God’s people), what he’s doing is wrong”. The mustache guy said “he’s underground now but when he comes up we’ll start the process”. Then it dawned on me that they were talking about David Eells. (underground – the anointing of the man-child is not yet revealed but is in secret for those who “have ears to hear and eyes to see”). I said, “You can’t be serious? David’s not done anything wrong. If you harm God’s elect, great harm will come to you.” I turned to the mustache man in darkness and said, “I want no part in this, I am not part of this at all”. The sister shook her head and said “He is false and must be removed”. (She listened to slander and accepted the faction witchcraft spirit.) I said to her, “You will lose your salvation if you carry this out”. (Because Jesus said those who do not forgive are not forgiven. They always accuse you of what they have done.) I walked out of the door, down the stairs and told Riaan. We tried to find Michael or David but they were not in their offices (either out in the field/mine or home for the day). The scene changed and I was walking next to a natural hot spring and I saw the sister swimming with her daughter, smiling and happy. I thought “she just wanted a feel good gospel that accepts all actions”. She got out of the pool, and she seemed to forget what she did. She had a huge white Jeep there, and was clothed as a wealthy, worldly woman. She held up two green colored cream soda flavoured milkshakes and offered me one. I turned it down. (Reminded of Cinderella and the poison apple the witch offered her) (represents an evil drink – tastes terrible and the very flavor is man-made). In my dream I had love for her as one loves the sisters/brothers in Christ, but I was aware of the word “Judas” the whole time and I was bitterly disappointed that anyone would try to hinder David’s humble pursuit of doing what God has called him to do. After being factious, this woman had gone back to the world. I was so sad. (She appeared to love the Lord and respected and loved UBM's teachings.) I received Ezekiel 30:20 by faith at random, in context 20-24: And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first month, in the seventh day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 21 Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. In 1984, there were only two ordained clergywomen in the Zimbabwe Annual Conference. Today, Africa has more than 300 clergywomen. Beauty Rosebery Maenzanise, of the East Zimbabwe Area of the United Methodist Church, shares the struggles of the Rev. Anne-Grace Chingonzo, one of the first Zimbabwe clergywomen, and her struggle to gain acceptance, and how the words in a dream provided the inspiration to persevere. Listen now. 0:34 Come and See Harare, by Beauty Rosebery Maenzanise, of the East Zimbabwe Area of the United Methodist Church 0:42 The ministry of clergywomen in the Methodist tradition, which has a testimony of sixty years, has been focused on the North American context for decades. While the clergywomen in North America witnessed to the gospel and celebrated their sisterhood, many women who received the call in Methodism across the globe lived in their oppression, years after the approval of the ordination of women by the 1956 the General Conference. 1:09 With the growing number of clergywomen in the United States and their testimonies to the living Word of God, the fire of the Gospel caught on other parts of the globe. In Zimbabwe for example, with people like the late Bishop Abel Tendekayi Muzorewa, women with a call to ordained ministry started to have backbone. In 1984, there were only two ordained clergywomen in the Zimbabwe Annual Conference. Being one of the three clergywomen who were ordained elders in 1988 as the second group, I felt the care of a shepherd from Bishop Muzorewa. To demonstrate his opening of doors for women in this ministry, he would many times be heard during the annual Pastors’ School sessions saying: “Men, we need to remember that biblically we are leaders of the Old Testament. The women are leaders of the New Testament based on the resurrection story of Jesus (Mark 16).” This statement gave us fire within. With the support of our African bishops, now, based on 2012 statistics, Africa has more than three hundred clergywomen. 2:17 Let us hear the voice of one of the Zimbabwe clergywomen, the Rev. Anne-Grace Chingonzo, who was interviewed by the writer in 2001: 2:26 For me to want to continue as a Christian I started worshiping while I was still young. As I was in Grade Four, I started to like preaching so much. I always felt like preaching and wanting people to be saved, to know God. One of the contributing factors was that I always dreamt about preaching. Sometimes I would dream seeing someone calling me saying: “Come and see people who need the message.” Then I would preach in my dream. That same sermon when I preached it next time, it would be very effective. 2:58 In my life I wanted to become a nun, and I was so close to Roman Catholic sisters. I admired their service together with their love and care. These sisters arranged a trip for me to go to Switzerland for that training, but I was not allowed to let my parents know about it. But the secret became known to my parents. They transferred me from Mhangura. They said: “You are not going anywhere.” 3:22 When I went to Mutambara, there was Rev. [Christopher] Jokomo as the pastor, and he was told about my story that: “We removed her from there because of this condition, so please assist her.” That’s when he took me to a sister, Deaconess, Pat Fulmer, who was working at the United Methodist Head Office. He said: “So you can be a sister in the United Methodist, and we can train you here in Zimbabwe.” 3:48 While there at Mutambara doing Form Four in 1983, I had a dream. Rev. Jokomo was in America by then. I dreamt being in a valley with a mountain nearby which had lawn throughout. That mountain had a very narrow path which people could use. Rev. Jokomo was wearing a yellow gown, and he said: “Annie, I want to show you where you are. If you choose to walk this road, I want you to see how hard it is to walk that road. There are thorns on the road, especially when you get to that point. It is very painful.” Then he said: “Follow me.” I followed him walking in front of me. He would say: “You see, walk this way. Make sure you are walking on the right road. Don’t step on the sides of the road. You will be hurt.” We walked and arrived where there were thorns, and he said: “Be very careful.” Then I woke up. All those dreams pushed me to think about ordained ministry. 4:47 I became a Local Preacher when I was doing my Form Three, and I was preaching. Towards the end of November of my Form Four, that’s when I was interviewed for ministry. But the main challenge which pushed me to go to ministry was that I was concerned about women. The fact which pushed me was that, as women, there is not much direct contact we have with the pastor as parishioners. Whereas when a woman has a need or a problem, they share with the pastor’s wife, and that pastor’s wife would then share with her husband. The pastor will then try to solve the issue indirectly through the wife. So it was a long process. I then felt that if I become a pastor being a clergywoman like this, I can manage to go direct to the women and talk to them. 5:33 I was ordained as a Deacon in 1986 at Old Mutate, and the dream I had in 1983 was fulfilled in 1986. How? That was the year Rev. Jokomo came back from America. As we were assembled to process into the Old Mutare Church, I was surprised to see Rev. Jokomo because I didn’t know that he was back. He greeted us all then said: “Annie, come here.” We stood at a corner and he said: “Annie, are you serious that you want to go and vow that you want to become a pastor? Do you know what they will say about your crying all the time? I want to pray for you so that when you give vows you need to know the meaning of what you are going to say. You will be belittled. They will say this and that about you.” And he later said: “Let’s pray.” It did not have much meaning to me as he was praying at that moment. We processed in and sat down. As soon as I sat down. it hit me that this was the hard road which I was accompanied by Rev. Jokomo. He did it vividly, and that same person prayed for me. I had not shared this dream with him when he prayed for me. 6:46 After graduation from College, I was appointed in Murehwa. When I got to Murehwa, I was not welcome. Why? I was the first clergywoman in that area, and worse, I was a single woman. And, yes, I was single, but the situation was worsened because of the area I came from, Manicaland. As soon as they saw me, to them I was not a pastor. I was so confused and did not know what to do next. Going to church, there was no respect that they were receiving their pastor. Before March 17 of that year, there was a death of a soldier in my parish. They did not even inform me of the death of my member’s son. 7:29 When the Headmaster said to me: “Do you know that your members spent the night at a funeral?” I took my bicycle and books then went there. When I arrived, no one greeted me. I extended my hand to give my condolence, and no one wanted to touch my hand. No one communicated with me, and no one was willing to sit close to me. I went and sat outside by myself. A family member who was the head of the family came to me and said: “Pastor, I am telling you that it’s better for you to leave and go back home. You are not wanted here. One, you are Muzorewa’s representative and two, people don’t want you here. Last night there were songs which were sung against you. The person who died is an ex-combatant. You can be killed here.” 8:15 I said: “I am here for my member’s child who died. He is the one I came here to mourn. I am here, and I am not going to leave this place until after burial.” He said: “Anyway, I told you. Whatever happens to you, you are forewarned.” Then the man left. 8:34 After he said those words, everyone looked down. I stood up and went to where the soldiers were. I said to them: “Can I please see your Chaplain?” They sent one of the soldiers for him. The soldiers welcomed me saying “The pastor is now here.” 8:49 When the Chaplain finally came, he said: “Thank you so much, pastor, for coming. Do everything during this funeral service. I will let you know where we will need to have some gun salutes, and I will tell you what to do.” We drafted the program together, and we called people to come closer. This was me now, calling people and leading the call to worship with that authority. For a while people stared at me, but they later came because I was standing beside my partner now, the Chaplain. After prayer we led the procession to the grave yard. On the way we were having the salutes, and everything which was supposed to be done during the funeral of an army person. The Chaplain would tell me what to do next. So people thought that I knew all those things. 9:36 Before we left for the graveyard, I asked the family if they had a representative who would like to say a few words, and they said they had nothing to do with “our person.” When we arrived at the graveyard, I only gave time to people from his job and his Burial Society. I preached. After the burial we got onto the Puma and went back to the home. After the meal I was about to leave. The soldiers said: “You are not going to ride your bicycle back home, pastor.” They put my bicycle into the Puma, and I went to the front seat. As the engine was being started, all the people from the area I lived started saying: “Pastor, can we get a ride?” I said to the soldiers: “Give them a ride.” 10:20 This was a Wednesday. before Sunday there was a meeting organized by our church members preparing a big welcome for me on 17th March 1989. From there I was the pastor of the community even to non-Methodists. Then I went to Bulawayo. From Bulawayo I was transferred to Old Mutare where there were many challenges. Challenging in the sense that I had only “O” (ordinary) Level education, and I was a pastor of people with degrees, from the medical doctor, headmaster and some teachers. That really challenged me. I was challenged positively . . . to the point that I wanted to further my education. What was challenging was that all those people with degrees respected me so much. But as soon as I was appointed, people started echoing, “A woman at Old Mutare,” because I was the first clergywoman there as the Station Chairperson and Chaplain. But the greatest challenge I had was on marriage. You could see that my husband was welcome more than I was. But the good part of it was that my husband understood me. But even with that, the top leadership respected me. 11:30 As a person who believes in dreams, there is a dream I had which was unveiled this year. I was at UTC, and I dreamt hearing: “Come and see Harare.” It was as if we were on top of the Harare Kopje. While at the Harare Kopje, I was told: “All Harare needs your preaching.” I was being shown all the low and high density areas. It was said: “This is where you are supposed to be preaching the Gospel.” As things were unveiling, I realized it was Jesus who was holding my hand as we went on top of the Harare Kopje. He started to leave me behind, and I said: “Don’t leave me, Jesus.” He said: “That’s a challenge for you.” That dream came vivid this year after my appointment as DS. The whole area I was shown in my dream is where I am overseeing as Superintendent. But the dream happened in 1986. So I believe in these dreams, and they really come true. It's not surprising that Sharon Salloum would pursue a career in food – her dad has a thing for DIY cooking devices and even pioneered a shopping trolley/fridge shelf/lawnmower barbecue. Her mother and grandmother taught her the power of food around the family table, and their recipes inspired her Almond Bar cookbook – which landed her two international Gourmand Cookbook awards. Just hearing Sharon talk about Syrian dishes is the very opposite of a hunger suppressant; it will make you want to order her food immediately. But Sharon actually decided to work in healthcare before teaming up with her sister Carol to open Almond Bar in Darlinghurst and their newish cafe 3 Tomatoes in Ashbury. Her ingredients are grounded in local postcodes – vine leaves cut from her parents' yard, fresh za'atar from an uncle's home, or visits to a Western Sydney grocer who sells home-made shanklish from neighbours or excess produce from their suburban gardens. And given that Sharon has has strong memories of riding donkeys in her father's Syrian homeland (and eating some extraordinary breakfasts in the country), it's obvious why she has gone out of her way to find hospitality work and opportunities for refugees from the region. Jonathan Freedland compares Theresa May's weakened premiership with that of Liberal prime minister Lord Rosebery in 1894-5. MPs Iain Duncan Smith and Grant Shapps join Jonathan to examine what lessons can be learned. Rosebery was appointed to the premiership as a unity candidate, chosen to heal rifts in the Liberal Party caused by the issue of Home Rule. But Rosebery had powerful rivals in his cabinet - most notably the chancellor Sir William Harcourt. As the months passed, Rosebery's leadership was increasingly called into question with the government accused of being in office but not in power. Megan Morton is a hero of mine - not only for her tremendous creative output across a number of mediums, but because she has developed a career around her passions - one that allows her to share and further cultivate them. Megan’s work as a stylist unique and intuitive and inclusive. According to her website, she makes atmospheres that make people extremely happy, which could be experienced via ad campaigns, magazine covers, when she decorates glamorous homes - or if you were to come to her Studio and School in Rosebery in Sydney’s inner west in order to learn how to do it yourself. For our chat, Megan welcomed me into her home, poured me tea, lit insense and regaled me with her philophy on style and styling.

Sasha is a design lover and a book lover, with a passion for Australian products and people. She is co-founder of Australian design powerhouse Koskela, with husband Russel Koskela. The pair are renowned for their unique contemporary-but-natural-Australian style, their commitment to design for social change, their dramatic Rosebery showroom and their habit of doing things just a little bit differently – especially when it comes to running a business.
The fan base for Black Star Pastry is pretty large – after all, its stores attract long lines, have scored many Sydney food awards and even drawn the attention of an Argentinean TV show (its crew called up and asked for an updated pavlova). Black Star Pastry's success may seem unlikely when you consider that its creator Christopher Thé originally had a BA in Psychology and was also told the original Newtown location was "cursed" when he moved in; the DIY attitude that powered the first store meant that he pretty much built the patisserie from scratch, using his parents' retirement money. But the former pastry chef for Quay and Claude's eventually built up such interest for his work that a spin-off Black Star Pastry store opened in Rosebery and a pop-up has appeared at the Powerhouse Museum. Demand for his signature strawberry and watermelon cake has spiked exponentially – not long ago, he was selling half a tray of these a day; now Black Star Pastry buys around a ton of watermelon a week to cover the thousands of strawberry and watermelon pastries that are sold. (The revenue from the cake alone is basically enough to cover 40 people's wages at the company). Christopher shares many other amazing stories about running Black Star Pastry – including the incredibly personal story behind the design of the Rosebery outlet and the inspiration behind the Anzac Day cookie packages – to his surprising army ambitions, collaborations with local designers and keeping watch over former charges who have gone on to their own thing (look out for John Ralley's Textbook Patisserie).
This week we look at Victoria's Prime Ministers following the death of Lord Palmerston in 1865. Victoria was heavily into mourning Prince Albert, but the efforts of Lord John Russell and the Earl of Derby to introduce electoral reform started to coax her back into national affairs. However, it was the rivalry of the two great politicians of the age - the charming Benjamin Disraeli and the severe William Gladstone - saw her re-emerge as a dominant figure. To Victoria's great distress, Gladstone proved to be the candle that wouldn't blow out, replacing her favoured Disraeli and Salisbury before finally retiring and allowing the reluctant Rosebery to become her final (new) PM.
