Lots to get into with Myles and Sonny on this episode of Talkin' Rock.  First up, Myles Kennedy talks about his upcoming solo album. He tells me what the name, The Art Of Letting Go refers to, the musical mission of the record, and more. That album drops on October 11th. He talks about jamming with the Led Zeppelin guys, the first time he met Slash, as well as Eddie Van Halen.  People think he looks like Kevin Bacon all the time. He tells a funny story of going to see his band play live....that's just for starters.  Then it's Sonny Sandoval from P.O.D. Their new album Veritas is out, as Sonny talks about it and the collaborations on the album. He also explained the record's cover artwork.  San Diago recently gave him his own day, which he said he was very humbled by.  Enjoy!

My next guest is business performance coach Dr. Jared Sinclair and I'm super excited to have him on the show. Before he started helping people, their businesses and organizations reach higher levels of excellence, Mr. Sinclair was an active Marine, serving his country in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as a retired San Diago, California Police Officer and also holds a doctorate in Organizational Change and Leadership. So he maybe hasn't had a hockey journey, but he's definitely had an eventful life journey and we're going to hear all about it.  I know the reason Mr. Sinclair and the Sinclair Performance Institute came into my life, and that's so he can pass on his knowledge, his success formula that he's been teaching to a wide variety of clients, representing many different sectors in the business world and he's here to pass on that information to you. It doesn't matter if you're an actor, realtor, musician, mathematician, nonprofit founder, piano extraordinaire, entrepreneur, professional athlete or just a regular "Joe" trying to make today a little better than yesterday, the formula is pretty much the same across the board. If you want to go from average to good, to great, there are success intangibles you need to know about and learn and that's exactly what Dr. Jared Sinclair is going to be discussing with me here today. 7 sick days a year & a fair schedule. That is all the Railroad workers of the United States have asked for.Despite this, President Biden and Congress have seen fit to force a contract on the railroaders. Both the Senate and House voted for the contract. However, 52 senators (all of which have unlimited sick time and make $174,000) saw fit to vote down the sick time amendment to the contract. This left all the rail workers stuck with a hellish scheduling system (Precision Scheduled Railroading) and a contract that the rank and file have resoundingly rejected over and over.To really understand this battle, we needed to call in support. Luckily, friend-of-the-show Dr. Andrea Haverkamp came in clutch. Andrea takes us all the way back to some of the earliest railroad strikes in US history to help us get the whole perspective of the incredibly nuanced topic.Dr. Haverkamp is a Labor organizer for the American Federation of Teachers as well as a professor of Climate justice, queer student experiences in STEM, and engineering ethics at the University of San Diago. She has extensive experience in workplace organizing in higher education and healthcare, as well as coalition political organizing for environmental and social justice in the Pacific Northwest. Her research and teaching centers intersectional queer, trans, and feminist frameworks and an organizing approach towards social transformation. Her primary topics of research and teaching are climate justice, trans and gender nonconforming student experiences in STEM, and engineering ethics. Her engineering experience prior to academia and the labor movement includes environmental engineering positions in the federal government, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. She has also served as a chemistry and physics high school teacher in Kolahun, Liberia in the Peace Corps.Dr. Haverkamp holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering with a doctoral minor in Queer Studies, a graduate certificate in College and University Teaching, and a Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering from Oregon State University. She also holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kansas. The whole Rik's Mind family wants to express our HUGE support for the railroaders in this fight against the Feds.   Albert Einstein famously said, "Intellectuals solve problems; geniuses prevent them." I love the wisdom in that quote! My hospitality spin on this quote would be:    Good hotels deal with problems. Great hotels fix problems. The most loved hotels see a problem as an opportunity for creativity and innovation, so they avoid having to see that problem recur.   To illustrate this point, I have selected a few true-to-life review responses I have just seen online.   I will show some typical hotel review responses, where the hotel hopes to get the customer back, fingers crossed. They are dealing with the problem. not fixing or preventing it from recurring. The reputation management box has been checked, but has anything been accomplished?   I will then show an alternative approach for the response so you can see the difference.  You can decide which sound good versus which effectively elevate consumer confidence by showcasing responsible and compassionate leadership in action. That response has a good chance of winning a return visit and attracting new customers.    The excellent review response came from a young manager, Frangelica Siy, at the Embassy Suites in Downtown San Diego. They are a 3-Star hotel that consistently inspires 5-Star reviews from its guests, thanks to leadership in action from great hoteliers like Frangelica. No wonder the Embassy Suites in San Diago is currently one of the top 10 hotels in the city, out of hundreds of other hotels, many far more opulent than the Embassy Suites. Way to go- Frangelica and team!     I hope you will find these examples illuminating and begin to consider these Dos and Don'ts whenever you or your team respond to reviews with the goals of elevating consumer confidence, living your values, and demonstrating leadership in action.    For more information and inspiration on Reputation Cultivation, Leadership and Culture, please visit adelegutman.com/getgreatreviews.

Do you feel like your emotions feel like a rollercoaster at times!? That's because they are often on the wild ride of emotional dysregulation! In this episode, you will meet Dr. Carrie Jackson, a brilliant child phychologist from San Diago California, who specializes in the ADHD brain!  In this episode, Dr. Carrie dives deeper into what emotional dysregulation looks like, how we experience it, and gives a great technique to use to calm/slow down those rollercoaster of emotions! The technique is called the "temperature skill." This is when you take an ice pack, a really cold wash cloth, or a cold bath/shower to calm your big emotions down. The ice cold against your forehead/body will phycially slow your heart rate down and calm your entire body with your mind and emotions following suit. I'm excited for you to hear what other animal does this to calm itself down! Can you guess? Dr. Carrie is also a professor at the University of San Diago, as well as a speaker and content creator in our ADHD community! You can find her on Instagram @i.parent.therapist or visit her website www.iparentadhd.com to learn more about her and the resources she has to share! If you want to take a next step on your ADHD journey, you can visit www.focusforwardadhd.com to book a free consult call and discover if myself or another coach would work best for you!  Visit my website www.katelynmabry.com for more resources, to order my book, or to reach out if your kiddo would like to be on a future episode!! This week we are discussing Surrogacy, both in the UK and abroad. Our first guest is Anna Buxton, mum of three children through two different surrogates. Anna talks us through her decision of how they reached surrogacy after a long and painful gynaecological history and was told Surrogacy was her only hope as she would never carry. Not carrying your child and grieving for that loss Anna voices the fear of so many people considering surrogacy, They were able to create embryos yet still it was v.difficult. Feels like you are giving up on the hope of ever carrying a child, your husband seeing you pregnant, you feel lost. Ripple effect… you think you are going to get pregnant, then you realise it's not going to happen as you thought. She couldn't find anyone to talk to about surrogacy. Started in the UK - charities and agencies but all had really long waiting lists and they'd already spent 5 years trying to get pregnant, and couldn't deal with another wait of 3 years. She found a few couples to talk to but didn't have access to the Insta community that exists today. Anna talks about how she now realises that Surrogacy was the light at the end of the tunnel for them and how incredible the women are who do it. She describes how Surrogacy is so complex of the process was something she buried herself in which helped her almost deal with the grief of not being able to carry. Surrogacy in India India had the longest reputation of surrogacy but had been shrouded in bad press and was halted for a while. They visited 10 clinics and found a Dr and clinic they loved who were running a lovely programme all centred around the wellness of the surrogate. They started the IVF process in the UK and then had egg collection and embryos fertilised in India and then were found a surrogate. She still had nobody to talk to about this. Complications of Surrogacy Abroad  The first step is to find a lawyer who is really experienced. The pregnancy was difficult - people weren't talking about it, so Anna didn't tell hardly anyone until about 24 weeks. It felt hard to believe She worried that people thought she was undeserved of being pregnant because she wasn't carrying the bump. Anna describes skulking around John lewis looking at prams, terrified someone would ask her why she was there and she was asked who she was buying the pram for and she said she mumbled ‘it's complicated' and walked off as she wasn't ready to tell a stranger. Anna explained how you never know if someone is going to say ‘congrats' or if they will ask complicated questions. She walked away and ordered everything online. Telling Work Anna explained how they talked to close friends who were really supportive but she was worried about work as she was the first person who had done it, was concerned about her position. She told them at 24 weeks, however, they had no policy for anyone doing surrogacy. How they talk to their children They've talked about how children are bought into the world. They have pictures and memorabilia of India all around. They talk about how Mummy's tummy is broken and another mummy helped to grow her. They celebrated Divali, making sure to normalise her culture and how she was bought into the world. Isla - 5 Always say thank you to Sheparla her surrogate and India. They don't have a relationship with her as she didn't want to and also doesn't speak English. Anna writes a letter every year to her clinic with a picture of Isla both to Sherparla and her children. It's different with the twins as they are in touch with Holly, her surrogate in San Diago, and has pictures of her in their nursery. They are still in contact with her. Surrogacy is an everyday conversation. Feeling conspicuous by not carrying her children She didn't enjoy the pregnancies as she was so worried and now her children are 2 and 5 she knows she is no less of a mother despite not carrying them and she wishes she had owned the pregnancy...

Show notes at https://thesternmethod.com/al-sanchez Al Sanchez is the current president of AMARC Enterprises who are the worldwide distributors of Lipoic Acid Mineral Complexes, sold in supplement form as Poly-MVA.  After losing his mother, sister and grandmother to colon cancer, Al joined his father in the quest to help those stricken with cancer and other health challenges find a better quality of life.  Like so many others, Al is strong in his belief that we can vastly improve the health of the world with educated choices, improved diet and lifestyle and natural nutritional support products like Poly-MVA.   ***Resources Mentioned***   Poly-MVA Website (use code “STERN” for $25 off your first bottle) *** In This Episode: This is only the second product-focused podcast in the Anti-Cancer Revolution Series which says a lot about how highly Ryan rates Poly-MVA, a unique Lipoic Acid Mineral Complex that is designed to provide energy for compromised body systems.  In this episode Ryan and Al put the spotlight on mitochondria, the critical role they play in helping the body heal itself, and why it’s so important that we support them. They take a deep dive into cell metabolism, oxygenation and inflammation and uncover how, in the right environment, these factors can turn a healthy cell into a cancer cell.  So tune in and discover for yourself what it is about Poly-MVA that makes it so well regarded by Ryan and many naturopathic doctors.  You represent a product, you're not a doctor CEO of Armac enterprises   We have seen each other at numerous conferences. If I recall one of them you were giving yourself IV PolyMVA... I practice what I preach! I live an anti-cancer life. It's easier to prevent than to treat or cure Mother passed away from cancer at 36, sister at 40 – it's in my epigenetics What got your Dad into making this product? His mother died in 1972. She went the conventional treatment route. Al’s father looked at different options but very short window, didn't have 'time' to implement alternative treatments Father moved to San Diago and met people in the integrative world Al’s sister Tina passed away and this was the driver for Al to begin working with his father and Poly-MVA  When I've heard you speak you focus on not just your product, but on helping people really understand what's going on Driven by desire to help and empower people How metabolism and mitochondria play a role Used to a system where you do as a the Doctor says With cancer your options are chemo, surgery or radiation. If that doesn't work, you die Common sense tells you there has to be more than that Al's goal is to be a 'bridge builder' between conventional and naturopathic sides of medicine Tell us about the concept of metabolic medicine and how it ties into mitochondria and cancer With the flu you rest, take supplements, the immune system kicks in, body repairs itself, you're okay Cancer is a whole different scenario but the approach is the same – fatigue, body is trying to fight it By not supporting mitocondria we're not helping the body heal itself Is the concept about giving the immune system more energy to do its job? Yes, in its simplest terms Rest is how our body restores itself Metabolic protocols target the metabolism.  Metabolism needs to be at its highest level so the immune system, liver, kidneys etc can draw down on it for energy What specifically are we talking about with cellular metabolism and mitochondria?  Mitochondria are the powerhouses of our cells. They provide the energy for them to function properly – repair, heal etc Trillions of mitochondria are required in our bodies just to keep us going  Mitochondria have their own DNA When you have cancer your mitochondria become dysfunctional and they start utilizing sugar differently to healthy cells It’s more complex than simply avoiding sugar 1/3 of calories go to the brain, 1/3 to processing/digesting, 1/3 is left for the rest of the body Diet is critical for cancer patients in terms of how their body is able to fight cancer Eat a low carb, high fibre, balanced amount of protein The more natural the better What's your take on cancer being a metabolic disease vs epigenetics? It's both, there's a synergy Epigentics and environment play a role, your genes play a role What's the difference between anaerobic and aerobic respiration in terms of cancer cells using oxygen or not? Cancer cells need a little oxygen but not in the same way normal cells do Oxygenation is is the key differentiator between anaerobic (very low oxygen) and aerobic (oxygen) Why is oxygen harmful to a cancer cell? It creates a better environment in the body for healthy cells  Enhances metabolism, improves energy, promotes healing environment Dr Paul Anderson Naturopathic Oncologist says "I don't care about your cancer cells as much as your healthy cells"... Small tumor versus the whole body Ensure body is as healthy as it can be then use targeted therapies to go after the tumor Support immune system, oxygenate the body, support metabolism Where does inflammation fall in all this? Inflammation is irritation of the body Prolonged irritation to any tissue means it can't function or heal Overtime you get an abnormal cell Cancer was once defined as "the wound that doesn't heal" due to lactic acid and low oxygenation The body also uses inflammation as a trigger to heal Problem is with continually high inflammatory markers Turmeric and other antioxidants, IVs, hydration, oxygenation all help reduce inflammation Isn't treating inflammation just like suppressing a symptom? Shouldn't we be going after the cause of the inflammation? Often hard to determine the cause of the inflamation Epigenetics mean diet and lifestyle looks different from one person to another There's enough research out there to know what we need to avoid e.g. alcohol, inflammatory foods Gut health critical for immune system and extracting nutrients out of food effectively What turns a regular cell into a cancer cell? How does it form? What happens in the presence of inflammation, bad metabolic function, low oxygen etc? Process is called acogensis - the birth of a cancer cell In utero two cells come together to create a single cell - each bringing different information This cell replicated many many times similarly to a cancer cell At some point in the process this replication stops and cells get the directions to become the cells they're meant to be Difference is these cells replicate under good healthy metabolism with controls Cancer cells are missing the healthy metabolism and controls and gets stuck in the replication cycle  Wherever this cancer starts e.g. liver, skin etc is the 'type' of cancer diagnosed Everyone has cancer cells in their body. They also should have the repair and anti-cancer mechanisms to deal with them On the one hand it's simple on the other hand it's not... The difficulty with cancer is that it's our own cells  By the time cancer gets to stage 3 or 4 it's established and has brought down the immune system Then it's chemo, radiation or surgery which often doesn't work Where does Lipoic Acid Mineral Complex fall in with all this? Poly-MVA Founder Dr. Merrill Garnett was exploring Otto Warburg’s theory  Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) and Thiamine are cofactors of mitochondria energy production in the KREB Cycle This cycle is where energy gets created, oxygenation takes place, sugar gets broken down and ATP gets produced It's about producing energy but also transporting and utilizing that energy to do what needs to get done Combining ALA and Thiamine creates a mechanism to support this pathway So Poly-MVA supports energy production and transportation in a healthy cell while simultaneously impeding it in a cancer cell? Not necessarily impeding a cancer cell Apoptosis is cell death. A cancer cell has lost the programming to invoke apoptosis   However a cancer cell could receive a signal for apoptosis If you start shuttling electrons or creating energy inside the mitochondria of a dysfunctional cellI it is possible to shut it down or restore proper metabolic function  ALA and Thiamine are cofactors in this approach, as well as oxygenation of the tissue One of the main selling points of red light therapy is that it supports mitocondria. So people say a cancer patient doesn't want to stimulate mitochondria as you stimulate the cancer cell mitochondria? Light therapies in general are photodynamic therapies In its simplest form - plants need sunlight to grow Cancer cells are undergoing glycolysis. They are no longer functioning metabolically as a normal cell If you're aerobic, using oxygen, red light will stimulate Cancer cells are survivors and adaptable How does high intensity interval training help mitochondria? Are you getting the same benefits as a shot of Poly-MVA?   Exercising provides mitochondria, cells, tissues etc with everything they need to be efficient Wouldn't recommend this to cancer patient as immune system is so low Light exercise is beneficial. The more you engage the mitochondria the more you engage your metabolism There are different state of metabolism when healthy  Metabolism provides energy Bodies become less efficient when we age. Exercise improves efficiency Poly-MVA also helps with the side effects of conventional treatment. Is that correct? Right. It helps your metabolism and keep your mitochondria healthy In Poly-MVA the ALA is bound together with the thiamine to create the redox molecule Up regulates and protects the cell and supports mitocondria Many naturopathic oncologists Ryan has spoken to recommend Poly-MVA to their cancer patients  What's the difference between oral consumption and IV in terms of benefits? IV goes straight into the bloodstream. bypassing digestive system so tissues get higher concentration  IV helps advanced patients who need a lot of initial support  What are the dosing guidelines for IV Poly-MVA Dosage is dependant on the physician's protocol and what is needed Dr Paul Anderson provides online physician training How do you get hold of Poly-MVA? 'Anchorman' - Stay classy, San Diego! Unsere 'Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst'-Rubrik is auch wieder pickepackevoll: Melanie is bei 'Mr. Robot', 'The Good Wife', 'Aquaman', 'Bumblebee', 'Spider-Man: A new Universe', 'Shoplifters' und noch viel mehr 24:14 'Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy': Will Ferrells Filmografie, Adam McKay, Darsteller, Charakterisierung Maincast, Trivia, Szene-für-Szene-Technik etc. 141:26 'Anchorman 2 - The Legend continues': Aja, was wer ma da wohl mache hä?! 218:21 Abmoderation und Tschüüüüß!
