She works for a health insurance company in customer service. Tami opens up about her lifelong struggles with weight and self-image, recounting her early feelings of not fitting in due to her height. She tried a variety of dieting and weight loss methods over the years—including low-fat diets, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, the South Beach diet, and others. Despite experiencing some success, particularly with Weight Watchers where she shed 100 pounds, Tami faced emotional and physical challenges that she fought to overcome for years.Tami stumbled upon Jason Fung's "The Obesity Code" and discovered the 16:8 intermittent fasting method in 2019, marking a pivotal change in her health trajectory. Despite initial hurdles with intermittent fasting, such as not losing any weight, Tami saw substantial improvements in her appetite control and finally was able to comfortably maintain her weight.Shifting from 16:8 to a three-to-five hour window most days allowed her to finally lose weight, and she is currently at a weight similar to her high school weight. She has continued to see progress in her well-being, celebrating non-scale victories like relief from carpal tunnel pain, hip pain, and silent reflux. Tami embraced the value of making an irrevocable commitment to herself, which is advice she heard from a past IF Stories guest.Tami offers advice to beginners on their fasting journey: push through the initial difficulties, learn to tune into your body's needs over time, and remain patient and committed. By understanding and adjusting to new information and the tools we have available to us, Tami believes that anyone can improve their mental and physical well-being through intermittent fasting.Get Gin's books at: http://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html, including her latest bestseller 28-Day Fast Start Day-By-Day, the Ultimate Guide to Starting (or Restarting) Your Intermittent Fasting Lifestyle so it Sticks, New York Times Bestseller, Fast.
Are you a parent of a cross-cultural worker? Tori Haverkamp talks about her experience as a "Missionary Mama" and shares tips for other parents whose kids are or are thinking about serving overseas. The Missionary Mama's Survival Guide: Compassionate Help for the Mothers of Cross-Cultural Workers by Tori Haverkamp Parentsofgoers.com “The natural parental thing is to want to have them close, but really the best thing for them is to assimilate into that culture and to call that home.” “You raise them to be independent, but then when they all leave you, you feel not needed. And so, your goal has created this ache in your heart.” “I couldn't take offense at what he was wanting to do because it was actually God's mission for the world, and it was wonderful and honorable and glorious.” “I had to reestablish a new pattern of communication with him that didn't involve my physical presence.” “When I was struggling, I was focusing on me, and when I was able to release and believe in God's mission, I was focusing more on God.” Mark 10:28-31 “You really aren't in control of your future - you feel like you are, but this just shows you that God's really the controller of all of our futures.” “It's very helpful to clarify not only what they will be doing and what their goals are, but why they want to do it.” “We see Jesus relating to people by asking questions, and I think that's a really great method when our child is contemplating this really huge life decision.” “We had differing, polar opposite expectations, and we had to meet in the middle so that we could both enjoy the home visit. Once we did that, it was much more smooth because everyone knew what to expect and I could actually enjoy them being here.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 “I had to see these things that hurt right now - these hot spots or these heart blisters - as temporary and light in light of this eternal, glorious, wonderful thing that God was achieving both in me and my child, and in the people that my child is reaching across the ocean. Once I made myself smaller, then God could be bigger and grander and glorious.” What's changing our lives: Keane: Watercolor pens Heather: House Rules podcast from Myquillyn Smith (“The Nester”) and bringing the outside in Tori: Reflecting on the word equanimity Weekly Spotlight: GDQ International Christian School We'd love to hear from you! podcast@teachbeyond.org Podcast Website: https://teachbeyond.org/podcast Learn about TeachBeyond: https://teachbeyond.org/

Die Superbraut (3) - Verändert Von Innen - Freimut Haverkamp by K21 Kirche für das 21. Jahrhundert
Dane Haverkamp is the owner of Triple H Custom Hay. He is also a junior in high school, his FFA chapter's vice-president and a family farmer with his parents on their ranch in Kansas. Dane likes all aspects of agriculture, but his families operation is almost exclusively raising registered Black Angus Cattle. Around Dane's 8th Grade year he told his folks he would like to get his own equipment for cutting, raking and baling hay on their farm rather than having it done by a custom business. However, his parents told him that the amount of work needed on their farm would not justify the purchase. So, Dane came up with the idea of starting a custom hay business of his own to justify the purchase, and made sense. Dane purchased his own baler, swather and later a rake to start the business. In exchange for the work he does on the farm, he uses his parent's tractors to operate the implements. Today, Dane operates Triple H Custom Hay and has a growing business that he plans to operate for years to come.
7 sick days a year & a fair schedule. That is all the Railroad workers of the United States have asked for.Despite this, President Biden and Congress have seen fit to force a contract on the railroaders. Both the Senate and House voted for the contract. However, 52 senators (all of which have unlimited sick time and make $174,000) saw fit to vote down the sick time amendment to the contract. This left all the rail workers stuck with a hellish scheduling system (Precision Scheduled Railroading) and a contract that the rank and file have resoundingly rejected over and over.To really understand this battle, we needed to call in support. Luckily, friend-of-the-show Dr. Andrea Haverkamp came in clutch. Andrea takes us all the way back to some of the earliest railroad strikes in US history to help us get the whole perspective of the incredibly nuanced topic.Dr. Haverkamp is a Labor organizer for the American Federation of Teachers as well as a professor of Climate justice, queer student experiences in STEM, and engineering ethics at the University of San Diago. She has extensive experience in workplace organizing in higher education and healthcare, as well as coalition political organizing for environmental and social justice in the Pacific Northwest. Her research and teaching centers intersectional queer, trans, and feminist frameworks and an organizing approach towards social transformation. Her primary topics of research and teaching are climate justice, trans and gender nonconforming student experiences in STEM, and engineering ethics. Her engineering experience prior to academia and the labor movement includes environmental engineering positions in the federal government, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. She has also served as a chemistry and physics high school teacher in Kolahun, Liberia in the Peace Corps.Dr. Haverkamp holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering with a doctoral minor in Queer Studies, a graduate certificate in College and University Teaching, and a Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering from Oregon State University. She also holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kansas. The whole Rik's Mind family wants to express our HUGE support for the railroaders in this fight against the Feds. Annnemarie Haverkamp is schrijver en journalist. Toen zij achttien jaar geleden tegelijk met Maxima zwanger was schreef zij hierover columns in de Gelderlander; twee kinderen die een totaal ander leven zullen gaan lijden. Haar zoon bleek onverwachts zwaar gehandicapt.

Higher Callings is pleased to offer this unedited version of our interview of Jennifer Haverkamp, the Graham Family Director of the Graham Sustainability Institute at the University of Michigan. Jennifer has had a long and distinguished career in international diplomacy aimed at mitigating worldwide environmental harms, including the reduction of climate change. This unedited version of our conversation includes material concerning some of her most recent projects, and also takes us back to her student years and early environmental work through her time at Yale Law School and her clerkship in the United States Court of Appeals. A shorter, produced version of the interview that begins with and focuses on Jennifer's post-clerkship career as a United States environmental lawyer and diplomat was published on May 25th.
