Frank and Jonathan rate Andor's Season-2 finale a near-perfect 9/10, debate the brand-new Superman trailer, and break down Marvel's first Ironheart footage. They also react to Fortnite's glitchy AI Darth Vader and sit down with fantasy author Richard Sparks to explore his MMO-inspired series New Rock, New Role. If you crave deep-dive Star Wars analysis, fresh trailer reactions, and book recommendations, this episode is your ultimate geek catch-up. Ironheart promises a scrappy, community-driven story that contrasts Tony Stark's privilege with Riri Williams' Chicago roots. The new Superman trailer revives the Christopher Reeve optimism while dropping viewers into a fully populated DCU. AI voice clones (like Fortnite's Darth Vader) are hype-worthy but need tighter safeguards before brands unleash them. Richard Sparks' New Rock series mixes MMO mechanics, 80s fantasy, and laugh-out-loud camaraderie—perfect for fans of Ready Player One and Willow. Memorable Quotes “Andor proves real rebellion relies on janitors jamming door locks, not just Jedi with lightsabers.” – Frank “Riri Williams is Iron Man if Tony grew up on the South Side and had to build a Mark I from junkyard scraps.” – Frank “AI Vader sounded amazing…until the Internet taught him four-letter words.” – Jonathan Call to Action Love the show? In this episode of Locked Up Sports, we're joined by author Tom McKeown to discuss his powerful memoir, This Is Panther Country: A Memoir of Youth, Underdog Spirit, and Basketball Glory. Tom takes us back to the 1974–75 season of the Babylon High School Panthers, a small-town team that shocked Long Island basketball by winning the first-ever inter-county championship. We talk about the epic rivalry with Amityville, the unforgettable final against South Side, and how a 13-year-old fan's view from the stands turned into one of the most heartfelt sports books in years. It's a story of grit, community, and the unifying power of high school sports — and it's one you don't want to miss. Curator Sukanya Rajaratnam and biographer Jon Ott weld together African American culture and 20th century Western/European modernism, through Richard Hunt's 1956 sculpture, Hero's Head.Born on the South Side of Chicago, sculptor Richard Hunt (1935-2023) was immersed in the city's culture, politics, and architecture. At the major exhibition, Sculpture of the Twentieth Century, which travelled from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York in 1953, he engaged with the works of artists Julio González, Pablo Picasso, and Constantin Brâncuși - encounters with Western/European modernism, that ‘catalysed' his use of metal, as the medium of his time and place.Hero's Head (1956), one of Richard's earliest mature works, was the first among many artistic responses dedicated to the legacy of Emmett Till. The previous year, Hunt joined over 100,000 mourners in attendance of the open-casket visitation of Till, a 14-year-old African American boy whose brutal lynching in Mississippi marked a seismic moment in national history. Modestly scaled to the dimensions of a human head, and delicately resting on a stainless-steel plinth, the welded steel sculpture preserves the image of Till's mutilated face. Composed of scrap metal parts, with dapples of burnished gold, it reflects the artist's use of found objects, and interest in ancient Greek and Roman mythology, which characterise his later works. With the first major European exhibition, and posthumous retrospective, of Richard's work at White Cube in London, curators Sukanya Rajaratnam and Jon Ott delve into the artist's prolific career. We critically discuss their diasporic engagement with cultural heritage; Richard collected over one thousand works of 'African art', referenced in sculptures like Dogonese (1985), and soon travelled to the continent for exhibitions like 10 Negro Artists from the US in Dakar, Senegal (1965). Jon details the reception of Richard's work, and engagement with the natural environment, connecting the ‘red soil' of Africa to agricultural plantations worked by Black slaves in southern America. We look at their work in a concurrent group exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, which retraces the presence and influence of Black artists in Paris, and considers the city as a ‘mobile site', highlighting the back-and-forth exchanges between artists, media, and movements like abstract expressionism. Shared forms are found in the works of French painters, Wangechi Mutu's Afrofuturist bronzes, and Richard's contemporaries practicing in France, Spain, Italy, and England.Plus, LeRonn P. Brooks, Curator at the Getty Research Institute, details Richard's ongoing legacies in public sculpture, and commemorations of those central to the Civil Rights Movement, including Martin Luther King Jr., Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Mary McLeod Bethune, Hobart Taylor Jr., and Jesse Owens.Richard Hunt: Metamorphosis is at White Cube Bermondsey in London until 29 June 2025.Paris Noir: Artistic circulations and anti-colonial resistance, 1950 – 2000 is at the Centre Pompidou in Paris until 30 June 2025.Listen to Sylvia Snowden at White Cube Paris, in the EMPIRE LINES episode on M Street (1978-1997).Hear more about Wangechi Mutu's This second dreamer (2017), with Ekow Eshun, curator of the touring exhibition, The Time is Always Now (2024).For more about Dogonese and ‘African masks' from Mali, listen to Manthia Diawara, co-curator of The Trembling Museum at the Hunterian in Glasgow, part of PEACE FREQUENCIES 2023.For more about ‘Negro Arts' exhibitions in Dakar, Senegal, read about Barbara Chase-Riboud: Infinite Folds at the Serpentine in London. For more about Black Southern Assemblage, hear Raina Lampkins-Felder, curator at the Souls Grown Deep Foundation and Royal Academy in London, on the Quiltmakers of Gee's Bend (20th Century-Now).

In 1991 a 7-year-old girl on Chicago's South Side had an idea.Inspired by the stories she heard from her grandmother and mother, Lena Waithe decided she wanted to see the lives of herself and her family and neighbors depicted on television.Moving to Los Angeles in her early twenties, Waithe worked her way up through the television business, eventually winning an Emmy for her writing, creating The Chi, a beloved series loosely based on her own life, and launching her own production company, Hillman Grad. And despite facing sharp criticism for her distinct creative vision, Waithe remains committed to shaping her legacy her way.…and it all started with one idea.Chapters:0:00 - Intro2:10 - Growing Up / 3 Generation House4:05 - Working at Blockbuster / Hoop Dreams7:15 - Navigating Changing Audience Behavior 10:49 - Early Days as an Assistant in Hollywood12:19 - Master of None “Thanksgiving” Episode17:00 - Dealing With Scrutiny That Comes With Fame22:42 - Does Culture Influence Creation? 26:05 - The Chi / Keeping it Fresh 7 Seasons In32:10 - Finding Inspiration Today35:50 - Future Aspirations / Leaving a Legacy

ABC News snagged an exclusive interview with John Prevost, brother of the newly elected Pope Leo XIV: the first-ever American Pope, born and bred on the South Side of Chicago. Patrick and Cyrus aired this audio during The Patrick Madrid Show, letting the story breathe... and man, did it breathe life into the moment. Brotherly Love & Shock John’s tone was a mix of disbelief, joy, and spiritual awe. “Not a lot of people can say ‘my brother is the Pope.’” Yeah, no kidding, John. He admitted that the news still hadn’t sunk in. The calls, texts, interviews… it’s been a nonstop frenzy since the white smoke rose over St. Peter’s. At first, John thought the idea of an American Pope was laughable... too much geopolitical baggage, right? But when Pope Leo XIV was in the final three candidates, things got real fast. And when the name was finally announced: There was screaming, curtain-watching, and immediate family pride overload. The Man Behind the Mitre So, who is Pope Leo XIV? John paints a humble picture. He’s: -A “regular run-of-the-mill guy” -Molded by missionary work in South America -Passionate about serving the poor and voiceless -Inspired by (and likely to continue the path of) Pope Francis John explained that his brother Pope Leo XIV met Pope Francis years ago while serving in Peru and Argentina, long before either of them wore white. Roots in Chicago Though Leo XIV left for the seminary after 8th grade (to Holland, MI, then Villanova), the Chicago DNA runs deep. His early life was that of a typical kid: neighborhood games, bike rides, and, get this: a prophetic neighbor lady once said he’d be Pope… in first grade. Just picture it: a kid on the block, riding his bike, and the neighbor declaring, “That one’s gonna be Pope.” Holy Spirit, anyone? From Chicago sidewalks to St. Peter’s Square, this story reminds us that God writes the most unexpected plots. And yeah; He’s definitely not done yet.
Patrick gave you a glimpse into the childhood and early years of our brand-new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV (Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost), with the kind of reverent curiosity you'd expect when an altar boy from the South Side becomes the Vicar of Christ. You can listen to his entire hour of commentary about Pope Leo XIV here. Hour 2 is available to listen here. Hour 3 is here. Humble Beginnings in the Windy City Born on September 14, 1955, in Dolton, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago), little Robert Prevost was raised in a faithful Catholic home. His dad, Louis Marius Prevost, was of French-Italian descent and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. His mom, Mildred Martínez, was a Spanish-Creole librarian with deep Louisiana roots. He grew up going to St. Mary of the Assumption parish, where he served as an altar boy. So yes, he literally started out on the altar... just not quite at the Vatican level yet. He has two brothers, Louis Martin and John Joseph. A Brainy & Prayerful Path Young Robert was no slouch in school either; he studied math at Villanova, graduating in 1977. God had bigger plans. He entered the Order of St. Augustine in 1978, professed vows in 1981, and was ordained a priest in 1982. He studied theology in Chicago and canon law in Rome, eventually earning his doctorate from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum). From Peru to the Pontificate This wasn’t a man who just sat around in chancery offices. He served as a missionary priest in Peru, taught at seminaries, worked in diocesan offices, and even led the global Augustinian order as Prior General, twice. Eventually, he was appointed a bishop in Peru, received dual citizenship, and climbed the Vatican ranks: prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America. If you wanted to become a bishop under Pope Francis? You probably went through his office. Cardinal, then…Pope! In 2023, he was made a cardinal, and by early 2025, elevated to Cardinal Bishop: one of the highest honors in the Church. Just a few months later, he appeared on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica, smiling (and maybe a bit stunned), as the world heard those famous words: “Habemus Papam!”: We have a Pope! First Words as Pope Patrick shared audio from Pope Leo’s first Mass, where he began his homily in English before switching to Italian. His opening line was a quote from the Psalms: “I will sing a new song to the Lord, for He has done marvels... not just with me, but with all of us, my brother Cardinals.” It was humble, sincere, and straight from the heart. Fun Fact Corner: There's a photo of him at a Chicago World Series game dressed incognito, talking on a cell phone: captioned: “Here’s the Pope at the World Series.” Instant classic. His childhood home was reportedly listed for $199K the day before the conclave. His Creole roots and international experiences give him a beautiful cultural depth: a bridge between continents, languages, and peoples. From altar boy in Dolton to Peter’s successor: it’s a story only God could write.

Their parents practiced "coaching confidence" before it was trendy, deliberately choosing to build their children up rather than breaking them down—a stark contrast to the prevailing parenting styles of their era. While neither parent had college degrees, they instilled in Michelle and Craig the belief that they were smart, worthy, and capable of excellence, creating a foundation of self-belief that would prove invaluable as they faced a world ready to lower expectations for "poor Black kids."The siblings' journey to Princeton University became a pivotal test of this cultivated confidence. Despite Michelle's struggles with standardized tests and encountering voices that said she was "aiming too high," the groundwork of self-belief laid by their parents proved stronger than external doubts. Their story reveals the transformative power of conscious parenting and how early experiences of success—however small—compound into the confidence needed to thrive in environments designed to challenge one's sense of belonging. As Michelle reflects, true self-confidence isn't innate but cultivated through supportive relationships and meaningful achievements that prove to ourselves that we're capable of greatness.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter

Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Brian Batko and Ray Fittipaldo recap the first day of rookie minicamp for NFL draft selections and undrafted free agents at the team's South Side facility. Why did QB Will Howard look and sound impressive as he looks to find his way alongside Mason Rudolph and -- possibly -- Aaron Rodgers? What did Derrick Harmon have to say about navigating the joy of being drafted alongside the grief of losing his mother soon after? How is he connecting with new teammates including Cam Heyward and Keenau Benton? How did fifth-round pick Yahya Black look alongside him? How is RB Kaleb Johnson progressing? And is Carson Bruener showing signs that he can contribute on special teams? Our duo tackles those questions and more.
Steelers GM Omar Khan speaks with reporters in conjunction with the team's rookie minicamp at its South Side facility. He explains why the team decided to trade George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys this week; why he likes his depth at WR behind DK Metcalf with names like Roman Wilson, Robert Woods and Calvin Austin III; and why he didn't make a move with Pickens before the NFL draft.

Marc Cox talks with Fox News Media's Caroline Elliott about the historic election of the first American Pope, who hails from Chicago's South Side. They explore his upbringing as an altar boy, his family's reaction, and the city's celebrations, including a special mass by the Archdiocese. The segment dives into what this means for the Catholic Church's future—especially on issues like the environment, inclusivity, and immigration—and examines media reactions, scrutiny over past tweets, and the possible political implications for U.S. Catholics. Caroline also shares speculation about a potential papal visit to Chicago—and even St. Louis.
The Conclave has released the white smoke, which means we have a new pope, Leo the XIV. I understand that this is important if you're Catholic, but why do so many others care? I'm not Catholic, but what's the difference between any of them? My wife, who is Catholic, says there's a lot of nuance to how each rules the church. The big news, and perhaps why so many care, is that this one is American. That's a first. Throughout the day yesterday, I was amused at how many people wondered if he was a Cubs or White Sox fan. That made me laugh. That's so "Chicago". He's from the Southside, and that's very telling...
