She is the author of 24 Ways to Get Paid to Speak and runs a booking agency, Prather Marketing. She specializes in setting up marketing plans for professional speakers through phone calls, email campaigns, social media, and marketing materials. From this episode:It's this old dilemma of getting paid or doing it for free. And, you know, I have to tell you some of the biggest rewards I have received for finding the target-rich audience, the people that are my ideal clients, I've shown up for free to do a speaking engagement. And I've made more money out of that speaking engagement that was free."-Dr. T"You cannot speak on anything; you are not the expert on every topic. So I always say choose three industries that resonate with your message the most and dive deep into those—one of my clients. Frank King always says the riches are in the niches because he plunges deep. He works in the construction industry. And that's where most of his gigs come from. So if you can become that go-to expert in the industry that you're targeting, that's the best way to keep yourself busy and get those gigs happening, and bring those association meetings and get the word out that you are the experts that people want to hear from."-Nona Pratherhttps://prather-marketing.com/nona@prather-marketing.com

Today's Guest: Wanda AllenWanda Allen is an international speaker, coach, corporate trainer, author, and award-winning business owner. She's the author of Follow Up Savvy and Follow Up Sales Strategies. Wanda had a 25-year corporate career where she held the position of Senior Vice President for 15 years. She has a sales background and worked with sales teams throughout her corporate job. She gained extensive training in business development, maintaining client relationships, and customer service. She has a vital skill set for developing systems and applied this skill to the follow-up process. What she teaches is tried, tested, and proven. After leaving the corporate world to pursue her business ventures, Wanda founded Follow Up Sales Strategies. She's an expert in helping entrepreneurs, business owners, and sales professionals increase pipelines, improve sales performance, and strengthen relationships by developing strong follow-up skills. From this episode:"When I find I'm very passionate about my work. Like, I love what we do. It's helping people grow their businesses; it's creating time and freedom for them. And it's all these things that I love. And I find that I'm really not entering a sales call; I'm entering a relationship. And when I'm thinking about it and doing a service, the fear sort of goes away because I'm coming in at a different angle."-Dr. T"You are asking the prospect questions rather than you talking, talking, and throwing everything you can do and how great you are. That's the turnout. So, there's a saying, be more interested than interesting. So be interested in the prospect. So, where are you in terms of your follow-up? What habits do you have? Where do you struggle? Where are you successful? It's whatever your product or services, so prospects will put them at ease. And listen, we like people who are interested in us that feed our ego, we all have an ego, and that person will be a lot more likable. So it's putting the focus on the prospect because truly, you want to find out how you can best help them and where they are, you know, it's called meeting them where they are, yes, and, you know, working from the same page."-Wanda Allenhttps://followupsalesstrategies.com/

At the end of episode 328 of the Creative Pep Talk (my favourite podcast), Andy J. Why Age 40 is a Major Wake Up Call for Retirement

Be Wealthy & Smart

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 11, 2019 12:08

Learn why age 40 is an important deadline to get serious about investing for retirement. Why is 40 so important? You may be familiar with my Wealth Heiress book's Wealth Building Formula (McT)™. The formula is comprised of 3 parts, which are the 3 parts to wealth building or, in this case, having a comfortable retirement.  M = Money, or how much money you have to invest. C = Compounding, or what rate of return you are compounding at. T = Time, or the amount of years you have to invest (until retirement). Let's say you got a late start saving for retirement. To make up for it you have only 3 choices (McT again): 1. M = You can save and contribute more money to your retirement plan, or 2. C = You can invest better and earn a higher rate of return, or 3. T = You can work longer and retire later. Let's analyze your choices. You are already saving as much as you can, so #1 is out. You would rather retire sooner than later, so #3 is not ideal. Nobody want to do this, yet that's exactly what your default choice will be if you don't invest well. That leaves investing better, #2. Only investing better, ie. being smarter about where and how you invest, can improve your circumstances without you having to find more money to save or delay retirement.  If your money is earning .25% interest in a savings account, it would take 99 years to equal the performance that our best investment increased in 11 months. By investing better, ie. being smarter about where and how you invest, you can improve your circumstances without having to save more money or delaying your retirement. Welcome to Crumbs of Science!Join us in our very first episode, where we learn all about building with gingerbread, making fat birds, and the best way to make sure a child is cooked all the way through. Special guests: structural engineer Will Horton and pediatrician Dr Jake Barlow.Recorded by Sarah-Jayne Robinson and Tim Newport at CPAS Podcast Studio.Edited by Tim Newport, transcribed by Sarah-Jayne Robinson.Intro music sampled from "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/---Transcript:SJ: Next to a great forest, there lived a poor woodcutter who had come upon such hard times that he could scarcely provide daily bread for his wife and his two children, Hansel and Gretel.[intro music]SJ: Hi everyone, my name is Sarah-JayneT: And my name is TeeSJ: And we’re Crumbs of Science, a podcast about the science in and around fairytales. Now because this is our very first episode, we thought we’d give you a little bit of a background about ourselves. SO my name is Sarah-Jayne or SJ and I think that I decided at about five years old that I was going to be a fairy princess in my future to the extremes where my 21st birthday I had, it was themed ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ and I went as a fairy princess. But I also have a science background, I have an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering and arts from the University of Western Australia and after I graduated I spent five years travelling around the world working on oil rigs and I’ve worked on six continents so far, so almost made it to all the continents, so almost made it to all the continents of the world, one more to go.T: Is that one more Antartica?SJ: It is Antartica – it’s very hard to get to. But I have experienced at least a little of all the others so far. So I’ve also done a fair bit of science and now I’ve left that job and I’m currently studying a Masters of Science Communication (Outreach) at the Australian National University, which is why we’re doing this podcast.T: Ah, and so my name’s Tee and I’m also studying this, the Masters of Science Communication (Outreach) at, uh, the Australian National University. Um, and I’d just like to thank the Australian National University for their facilities in recording this podcast today. I studied journalism and geology at university and I actually worked for several years putting on science kids parties, where I’d go to children’s birthday parties and instead of a clown, I would be a scientist and everyone would get to do science experiments, um I’ve also done …SJ: What was your favourite? Your favourite science experiment that you did at a kids birthday party?T: Um, so one of my favourites was definitely, uh, making little rockets, where you mix alka-seltzer and water in little pointy test tubes and then put them on a little base and you just put it on the ground and count down 5…4… and then it just goes off. Uh, great experiment, definitely need safety glasses for everyone though, those thing uh, move very fast. Um, but I also did a bunch of science as well, during my geology degree, I did a three week field trip out to the, out to Broken Hill, um, out to the desert where they filmed Mad Max and got to camp for three weeks uh, and stare at the ground, it was great.SJ: I think that’s most of geology isn’t it?T: Yeh, it’s really, [sigh], it’s really tough to make sound exciting.SJ: Is geology a real science, oh, who knows? So, our podcast is about fairytales and this week, if you couldn’t tell from that opener, we’re discussing Hansel and Gretel, which is the, one of the most famous fairytales, originally published in 1812 by the Brothers Grimm and a fun little fact, this story was told to them by Dorchen Wild, who later on actually married one of the brothers, um, she married Wilhelm. So, the story of Hansel and Gretel, it’s a fairly tragic start to it – two children and their two parents, who are living in their lovely little cottage, in the woods, and one evening, their father suddenly comes to the realisation that, we have no food, so his wife turns over to him and says ‘Listen, man, early tomorrow take the two children, give each of them a little piece of bread then lead them into the middle of the thickest part of the woods. Make a fire for them and leave them there, for we can no longer feed them. The man protests a little bit, says that he can’t do this, he loves his children, but then the woman says ‘if you don’t do it, all of us will starve together, and she gave him no peace until he said yes’. Little interesting thing about this, you would have heard there that I’ve said that it’s his wife or the mother, uh, which is how the original version in 1812 went, but the version in 1857 actually had it as the stepmother. So the Brothers Grimm realised that they could make this story more exciting then included it as a stepmother instead and then that was part of the whole stepmother trope that you also see in Cinderella and Snow White and pretty much, if you’ve got a stepmother, they’re going to try and kill you, I think is how these stories go.T: After their father has been convinced, to take them in the woods, by his wife, the children hear everything that the father has said, um, and Hansel tells Gretel that he has a plan and he’s going to get them back, and so he goes outside, he fills his pockets with pebbles and then he goes back in the house and goes back to sleep. In the morning, the mother comes and wakes them up and says ‘get up children, we’re going into the woods, here’s some bread. Don’t eat it til midday. The father leads them out, into the woods and starts a fire for them and says, ‘Just go, take a nap, and I’ll go back and cut down some trees and I’ll be right back. And of course, he doesn’t come back, but because the kids already know about the plan, Hansel has been dropping pebbles through this entire, on the journey there. And so, when the moon comes up, he can see his way back. So he follows the pebbles all the way back to the house.SJ: Family was all happy again, everyone was nice and cheerful. Until, about a month later, when they realised, hmmm… we still have no food. This story is actually part of, there are a bunch of stories about children being abandoned, there’s the French one which was Le Petit Poucet, there’s Finette Cendron, which was the story of three princesses abandoned by their parents and there’s another version in Italy by Giambattista Basil, where the cruel stepmother kicks the kids out. And this actually has some origins in a human event which happened in 1315 – 1317 or 1325 depending on what you look at, which was the Great Famine. Now, the Great Famine was due to some horrible weather conditions in Northern Europe, specifically affecting the English Isles, France, and those sort of areas around there. And all their crops died, the situation got worse and worse until 1318 when they finally had some good weather again, but through those three years, times were really, really tough and it’s been said that between 10% and 25% of the villagers in those countries actually died. Pretty much due to starvation or if they didn’t die due to starvation, they were so weak that then the diseases came and picked them off really quickly. And during this time, people went to some really extreme measures to try and get enough food to feed their family and these measures included murder, robbing your friends and neighbours, the old voluntarily not eating so that they would die, cannibalism and also abandoning your children in the woods to fend for themselves. So, this horrible fairytale, probably actually happened. Maybe not the rest of it, but the origins are based on actual life events. So, the mother, once again, convinced the father, we need to get rid of these children, or we’re all going to starve. And Hansel and Gretel, once again, because they had no food, they were awake at night, very hungry and Hansel thought again, that’s alright, I’ll go down, get some pebbles, I’m a smart cookie, I’ve got this. But it turns out, that the mother had actually locked the door, so they couldn’t get out. Now, they were given two slices of bread, to carry in their pockets for the walk, because these parents weren’t totally heartless, so this time Hansel crumbled up the bread and left it behind on the walk. Then once again, got to the woods, the parents try the same trick, ‘You stay here, rest by the fire, we’re just going to go chop down some more firewood and once again, the parents disappeared. Hansel, waited til that evening, until the moon would rise and he could see his trail bed..bre.. trail of breadcrumbs but then, turns out, they were all gone. Animals ate them. I don’t know what, how this could have happened, animals eating breadcrumbs, but Hansel, though he was a bit of a thinker, didn’t think that hard.T: So, quite regularly, you’ll see articles going around, um, saying, ‘oh no you shouldn’t, you shouldn’t feed birds bread, oh you can’t be feeding the ducks bread, you’ll kill the ducks.SJ: Like the very famous scene in About a Boy, when he’s feeding, feeding bread to the ducks and then he throws the whole loaf and the duck dies.T: You can actually, you can feed bread to birds. It’s totally fine to feed bread to birds, just like it’s totally fine for humans to eat bread. But here’s the thing, you shouldn’t eat it all the time. So,SJ: But Oprah loves bread, she would eat it all the time if she could.T: So would I. But it’s not healthy for us and it’s not healthy for the birds either. It’s a lot of uh, empty proteins, it fills the bird up without actually providing any nutritional value. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in the UK, advises that you should only feed small, small amounts of bread and you should try to mix up the types of things you feed so you’re not just feeding them bread. Wholegrain bread, much better for birds, as opposed to white bread, um because, partially because wholegrain bread has all those little seeds and grains and other things that are nutritional by themselves contained within the bread whereas white bread is purely, purely the bread itself and is not very good for the birds. There’s an article in the Washington Post about, uh, different types of bird seeds and how many bird seeds are actually filled with a type of seed that birds don’t eat. So there’s a type of seed called Milo, it comes from a particular plant. While it’s really good agricultural feeding, so feeding various fowl like chickens and so on, it’s not so good for backyard birds. Backyard birds will just leave it in the container. He says, on a theoretical scale from 0, where no bird has any preference to it, and 30, where every species eats this type of seed, uh, red milo seed, that makes up the majority of bird seed, rates a 6, which is the lowest score of any seed type. At the top of the list, of things that birds love to eat, is sunflower seeds, black oil sunflower seed or shelled sunflower, sunflower seeds that humans like to eat are not the kinds that birds like. TheySJ: [Disappointed sigh], well that’s good because I don’t like sharing my food. So, the story continues, they couldn’t find their way home, so instead they wandered around the wood, all through the night, the entire next day. They were horribly hungry because they’d only managed to find a few small berries to eat, then on the third day, they walked until midday when they came to a house built entirely out of bread, with a roof made of cake and the windows were made of clear sugar. Now, to any child, or to any person really, this sounds like a dream, but to two little children, who’d been wandering for three days with nothing to eat, probably thought that it was a mirage. But by that point, they’re willing to eat anything, enough mirage stuff, [cough], so they sat down and they started eating this house. Whenever I think of this story, I always think of it as a gingerbread house, though it doesn’t actually say that in the narration of the original 1812 or 1857 version. And, as an engineer, I’m not quite sure how great bread or gingerbread would be as a house.T: So, there are actually competitive gingerbread-house making competitions. And one of the largest houses, gingerbread-houses ever built had an actual internal volume of 1000 square metres, uh, built as a charity fundraiser in 2013.SJ: Can you think, 1000 square metres, that’s a bit hard to visualiseT: YehSJ: What sort ofT: So it’s nearly 20SJ: SizeT: It’s nearly 20 metres long and 12 metres wide and it is 6 metres tall at it’s highest point, so that’s, it’s about the size of a small actual house.SJ: That would require so many stepladders to build. So, we called a structural engineer, Will Houghton, currently working at GHD, to ask him some questions about gingerbread houses, which is a very normal thing to do in your work day.[ring tone]SJ: So Will tell us a bit about gingerbread houses - would you build with gingerbread and why? Will: In the construction of something like this, you tend to need to look at it in two ways. There’s the, um, the materials you use for the construction and also the applied loads. So, in those two avenues, the capacity of gingerbread as a construction material. I mean, there has been some research done to date, obviously not on this scale. But in essence, it does appear to behave quite nearly as a concrete in that, um, well I will say unenforced concrete. It is quite brittle in nature so if you do load it, if you do stand on say, a floor panel made from gingerbread, it would crumble beneath your feet. But when I say brittle, it’s more it has no tensile capacity. So if you try and pull it apart, it’s very weak and if you try to compress it it would have some strength but it would probably crumble. So as a construction material you would really need to either have limited load to ensure it works within capacity or you would need to somehow strengthen it. And there are various ways you could do that, you could use some sort of taffy or marshmallow to really reinforce it and give it more tensile strength. But if it was to be loaded and it was to form, the marshmallow or the taffy would act as a cement and hold it together and give it that additional strength.Tee: So Will, with gingerbread as a building material, how big of a house could you make? Will: It comes down to, in one sense the location of the building. So I see there would be no actual constraints on how high or how wide it could go. You can always engineer the materials to take it. If you go higher with these buildings you are exposed to more winds loading, that’s something I can’t really imagine you can design out. If you imagine a building with four walls you obviously have a windward face. I think what probably helps in this case given my understanding, is the site would be in a forest of some sort, typically you would get some, um, some shielding from any wind source, um, by the trees or whatever was nearby so could be working in our favour and you could then go higher. With these kind of structures, especially with brittle materials like gingerbread, you can actually strengthen it by having a compression load acting on it. So in this sense here, with your walls, they’re obviously supporting the roofs, the roof is exerting a dead load, so that weight on those walls. That load is compressing those walls and would strengthen them under any lateral forces like wind or whatnot. I don’t know if this would be a two-story house, I think with a gingerbread cottage you might want to keep it single story and that would definitely make construction easier. It comes down to what she needs, so does she need a four-bedroom house or is she fine with a two-bedroom. Might be fine to go single-story.SJ: Now we know that it’s a little bit hard to work out 14th century prices and also magic of course is priceless, but can you maybe give us a bit of an estimate of how much this gingerbread house would cost to build? Will: Typically, with a construction like this, there’s several different avenues where the cost comes from. You obviously have the design itself which is a proportion of the fee and the documentation thereof to assist in the construction. There is the procurement of the materials, the procurement of the resources, so the manual labour required, any plants or whatnot that you might need to help pour the gingerbread. In terms of the manual labour, I’m sure there is a portion of magic that can be involved to assist with any lifting, so any heavier pre-carved elements, if they were to be used. Why would you hire a crane, when you can use a witches magical powers, I don’t know? So I imagine there’s not that many of them and they would be a specialised resource, perhaps they would be quite expensive, if it’s a very remote site, it might be that the higher cost comes from transportation. So gingerbread, luckily enough would be quite light to transport, I’m not sure if they would be baking it on-site or if they’re baking it say in a workshop nearby and then transporting it to site, so there’s a few variables to really look at before we give a final cost to this.SJ: Thanks so much Will, we really appreciate you coming along and lending your expertise to our podcast. Will: Thank youSJ: So we left off in the story, before we got very side-tracked by amazing gingerbread houses, that Hansel and Gretel had just started eating this house of bread, when they heard ‘Nibble, nibble, little mouse, who is nibbling at my house.’ Hansel and Gretel were obviously terrified, then out of the doors walked a lovely, little old woman who took pity on the children and said ‘oh you dear children, where did you come from? Come inside with me and you will be just fine.’ So she took them in, she gave them some nice food. They then went to bed thinking ‘Yay, we’re so lucky’. But the twist is that this old woman was a wicked witch who was lying in wait there, for children. So she had built her house of bread in order to lure them to her and if she captured one, she would kill him, cook him and eat him. And for her, that was a day to celebrate. Pretty horrific celebration, but still, once again, no judgment, 1300s, life was tough.Tee: Yeh, 1300s, get what you can.SJ: When this story originated from, in the 1300s, witches weren’t seen in the same way as we view them in the 15 or 1600s or how they are viewed now. So, in the 10th century there was a canon or book of sorts called Epsiopy which talked about women being seduced by illusions from the devil, and then they would think that they could fly on the backs of certain beasts in the middle of the night alongside the goddess Diana. However, these women were dismissed as being stupid and foolish, thinking, how an earth could they do that, how silly women, goodness. Then it was only in the 15 and the 1600s that inquisitors started to believe that women could actually make magic happen by pacts with the devil and they were pretty terrified of them because they thought that they could do things like putting a broomstick in water and causing a storm or a flood, So then you had all the horrible witch hunts of the 15 and 1600s where, how was it that they told if women were witches?Tee: One of the most famous tests is to, uh, chain someone up and throw them in a river, because, if they floated, they were a witch and should be killed but if they drowned and died, well good news, not for them, they weren’t a witch.SJ: Fool-proof method really.Tee: I mean, it’s just, it’s just science.SJ: Simple science, it’s obviously the best way to tell if someone was a witch. So, Hansel and Gretel, they were sleeping peacefully, the witch said ‘They will be a good mouthful.’ So she grabbed Hansel, threw him in a little stall and she made Gretel cook for him for the next few days. So cooking him delicious things to fatten him up, so she could eat him when he was fat and delicious, not skinny and tough. So, and all Gretel got to eat during this time was crayfish shells. So, poor little Gretel, she’s not doing great, but Hansel’s about to get eaten, so he’s not doing great either.Tee: No-one really comes out on top in this story.SJ: Nope, they’re pretty upsetting. So, everyday, the witch tested Hansel to see if he was fat and fat enough to be delicious food. So, she would get him to stick his finger through the bar, because she didn’t have very good eyesight, uh, Hansel was actually able to trick her by instead by sticking a stick out, so it didn’t seem like he was getting any fatter despite all the delicious food that he was eating. However, after four weeks, the witch got fed up and said to Gretel ‘Hurry up and fetch some water. Whether your brother is fat enough now or not, tomorrow I am going to slaughter him and boil him. In the meantime, I want to start the dough that we will bake to go with him. So, Gretel was pretty sad. Um, in the 1812 version of the story, it actually says that she sat in the kitchen and cried tears of blood, which once again, horrific, uh honestly, that could probably happen in the 13th century, people weren’t very healthy.Tee: The Brothers Grimm clearly thought that that was a little bit much though because in their 1857 version, they’ve now edited it out and it’s not in the, uh, traditional retelling of the story.SJ: Not saying that Gretel cried tears of blood? But that would look so pretty in the animations. Uh, eh. So the witch called Gretel over and the witch said to her ‘Look inside and see if the bread is nicely browned and done, for my eyes are weak and I can’t see that far. If you can’t see that far either, then sit on the board, and I’ll push you inside. Then you can walk around inside and take a look.’ So, if you can walk around inside, pretty big oven. But Gretel was a little bit clever and she realized that the witch probably didn’t good have, probably didn’t have very good intentions if she was going to push her inside the oven. So instead, Gretel said ‘I don’t know how to do that, first show me. Sit on the board and I will push you inside.’ So, the old woman sat on the board and because she was light, Gretel pushed her all the way inside and then quickly closed the door and secured it with an iron bar. The old woman in the hot oven began to cry and wail but Gretel ran away and the old woman burned up miserably.Tee: We decided to see if the witches plan was going to work in the first place, even if she hadn’t been foiled by these clever children. Could she have actually cooked and eaten them in this oven?SJ: So we did some calculations of our own and since neither of us are experts in cooking children, we decided that we would call on an expert, Dr Jake Barlow who is currently working at the paediatric wing at the Royal Children’s Hospital.[ringtone]SJ: So Jake, you’re a doctor, very wise, know lots of things, could you tell us, could this witch survive on a diet of children?Jake: Uh, it probably would be reasonably nutritious, it’s, you know, decent quality red meat. I think the main concern, uh, from a medical point of view, would be developing a disease known as kuru, which is a form of prion disease. Now prion disease is pretty cool. So the way they work, essentially you have a protein that is folded, well, assembled badly in such a way that it will both cause other proteins to fold badly and therefore it sort of spreads itself. Mad cow disease would be the classic. Its, um, protein causes a degeneration of the brain, sort of like a dementia-type process and then that would lead to, um, progressive loss of cognitive function and then death. The problem with this is that the proteins when they fold in this way, they also bear a resistance to heat, so they might need to be heated to three and a half thousand disease celsius or something similarly difficult to achieve in your standard kitchen oven especially in your gingerbread house that will probably burn down at temperatures much below 3500 degrees Celsius. And so the protein survives the cooking process, and then when you eat them they start doing their folding problem in you, and so they are transmissible but they’re not sort of alive in the same way that something like a bacterial, bacterial infection is transmissible and alive.SJ: So Jake, if you were going to roast a child, how would you do it?Jake: Uh, I haven’t considered this before. I guess I think you could think of a number of options. And I think it would probably depend on the child, I mean my concern would be the surface area to volume ratio of the child. Obviously children are small so they have relatively high surface area compared to their volume which means that they gain and lose heat quickly which is relevant from a medical point of view but I imagine is also relevant from a cooking point of view. And once you have your child cooked, or burnt on the outside and all cold on the inside, so you’d want to make sure that they’re cooked through evenly. Therefore I’m thinking your options would either be to slow-roast the child so that, especially a larger child, so that the core is cooked through, or potentially something like a spit-roast like you would do with an entire whole pig or something like that.SJ: So Jake, these children have been wandering for three days in the woods, what sort of state would they be in, by the time they made it to the witches cottage?Jake: I think there’s a lot of issues at play here, obviously you need to think about the environment that they’re in so exposure will be a factor, the quality of their clothing, if it’s sort of threadbare, homespun potato sacks that will provide minimal insulation and so the child will develop hypothermia more rapidly as we discussed sort of previously with the surface area to volume ratio element. Weather will obviously affect it, especially if it’s raining and their clothing becomes sodden. The environment they’re in, windchill, protection from other elements, their, either, availability of skill, or ability to light a fire to conserve heat and provide wool. The bread will provide a degree of sustenance, but obviously it is mostly carbohydrate and doesn’t really have much in the way of vitamins and minerals and micronutrients. Three days, certainly possible, for children who are acclimatized to the environment. Uh, it would very much depend on the weather.Tee: Well, that’s a lot of information I didn’t know and probably shouldn’t know. Thanks Jake for coming on the show.Tee: So the story continues with the witch having burnt up, Gretel runs to Hansel and unlocks his door. He jumps out, very excited to not be killed and eaten, as you would be and then they look around and find that the whole house is actually filled with precious stones and pearls.SJ: This is an amazing house by the way.Tee: And these children are just not very observant. They walk into a house, they don’t see the cage, the don’t see…SJ: The human-sized ovenTee: Yeah, and they don’t see all of the gems, but anyway. They find these precious stones and pearls, they fill their pockets with all them and they find their way back home. Their father rejoiced when he saw them once more for he had not had a happy day since they'd been gone and now he was a rich man. However, the mother had died. Now when I was reading that I thought, ok, what happens after that? But no, that's how the story ends is, however, the mother had died.SJ: Such a great last sentence of a children's fairy tale, that let’s be honest, probably your mum is reading out to you. So this story might not seem like it has a whole lot to do with science but there's a pretty cool mix between magic and science that was around in those sorts of days because they had a bit of a definition of magic and let's be honest, a weird definition of science. So William of Auvergne who was a 13th century French priest and bishop so just before the time of the great famine, he believed that magic was superstition however, natural magic was a part of science and if you didn't use it for evil, this was all fine. And some elements of natural magic were that seal skin could be used as a charm to repel lightning, vulture body parts were obviously a protective amulet, and if you wanted your garden to grow well you would get virgins to plant your seeds because that was a scientific way of promoting their growth. So, probably not quite how we’d define science today but they also had some other weird things going on with the science and the medicine of the time because they believed in sympathetic magic which was using imitation to produce effective results. So for example, if a patient was suffering from a liver complaint, they would use the liver of a vulture to cure it.Tee: So an example of this is using a treatment to help, to stop the flow of blood of a wound, by using wool soaked in olive oil from the Mount of Olives and combining that with a spoken story about Longinus, who was famously healed of his blindness using the blood of Christ. So these were religious elements blended with the magical and with the scientific.SJ: So, it’s a little bit cagey on what you’d call science, but then again, science wasn’t all that advanced at the time. They had some famous scientist around that era such as Fibonacci who you've probably heard of, with the very famous Fibonacci sequence named after him who was actually an accountant and was famous for introducing Arabic numerals to Europe and making accountants lives easier and also a very famous scientist at the time was Roger Bacon who was called by some as the first modern scientist and he wrote on all areas of science and even managed to envision machines for travelling on land or water, submarines and air travel which is pretty advanced when you think that they were mainly going around via horse and buggy. Now we’ve spent so long learning about Hansel and Gretel, maybe you can answer a question for me. How did Hansel and Gretel get lost in the woods?Tee: I don’t know SJ, how did Hansel and Gretel get lost in the woods?SJ: The trail was crumby.Tee: [groans]SJ: Thank you very much everyone for listening. Um, hopefully you’ll tune in next week when we're going to talk about The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen, one of my all-time favourites.Tee: So until then, we hope you have a happily-ever-after[Fairytale music]

[4:24] …These are GOD's commandments to you. All other categories are permitted for you in marriage, so long as you pay them their due dowries. You shall maintain your morality, by not committing adultery. Thus, whoever you like among them, you shall pay them the dowry decreed for them. You commit no error by mutually agreeing to any adjustments to the dowry. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.  Breaking the Engagement  = divorce [2:236] You commit no error by divorcing the women before touching them, or before setting the dowry for them. In this case, you shall compensate them—the rich as he can afford and the poor as he can afford —an equitable compensation. This is a duty upon the righteous. [2:237] If you divorce them before touching them, but after you had set the dowry for them, the compensation shall be half the dowry, unless they voluntarily forfeit their rights, or the party responsible for causing the divorce chooses to forfeit the dowry. To forfeit is closer to righteousness. You shall maintain the amicable relations among you. GOD is Seer of everything you do. Need to be able to afford to marry [24:33] Those who cannot afford to get married shall maintain morality until GOD provides for them from His grace. Those among your servants who wish to be freed in order to marry, you shall grant them their wish, once you realize that they are honest. And give them from GOD's money that He has bestowed upon you… Honoring the parents by asking permission from them 4:25 [4:25] Those among you who cannot afford to marry free believing women, may marry believing slave women. GOD knows best about your belief, and you are equal to one another, as far as belief is concerned. You shall obtain permission from their guardians (family Ah-lee hee nah) before you marry them, and pay them their due dowry equitably. They shall maintain moral behavior, by not committing adultery, or having secret lovers. Once they are freed through marriage, if they commit adultery, their punishment shall be half of that for the free women.* Marrying a slave shall be a last resort for those unable to wait. To be patient is better for you. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful. Who we can’t marry  Respect for the Father  [4:22] Do not marry the women who were previously married to your fathers—existing marriages are exempted and shall not be broken—for it is a gross offense, and an abominable act.  Incest Forbidden  [4:23] Prohibited for you (in marriage) are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, the sisters of your fathers, the sisters of your mothers, the daughters of your brother, the daughters of your sister, your nursing mothers, the girls who nursed from the same woman as you, the mothers of your wives, the daughters of your wives with whom you have consummated the marriage—if the marriage has not been consummated, you may marry the daughter. Also prohibited for you are the women who were married to your genetic sons. Also, you shall not be married to two sisters at the same time—but do not break up existing marriages. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful. [4:24] Also prohibited are the women who are already married, unless they flee their disbelieving husbands who are at war with you.* These are GOD's commandments to you. All other categories are permitted for you in marriage, so long as you pay them their due dowries…. Henry Ford about the model T: “You can have any color as long as it is black” [2:221] Do not marry idolatresses unless they believe; a believing woman is better than an idolatress, even if you like her. Nor shall you give your daughters in marriage to idolatrous men, unless they believe. A believing man is better than an idolater, even if you like him. These invite to Hell, while GOD invites to Paradise and forgiveness, as He wills. He clarifies His revelations for the people, that they may take heed. What about homosexuality?  [7:80] Lot said to his people, "You commit such an abomination; no one in the world has done it before! [7:81] "You practice sex with the men, instead of the women. Indeed, you are a transgressing people."  [42:50] Or, He may have the males and the females marry each other, then render whomever He wills sterile. He is Omniscient, Omnipotent. What the right hand possess Or not And [23:5] And they maintain their chastity. [23:6] Only with their spouses, or those who are rightfully theirs, do they have sexual relations; they are not to be blamed.   مَلَكَتْ =  possess / owner of / or to take a wife أَيْمَانُهُمْ =  right hand / oaths / vows  [70:29] They keep their chastity. [70:30] (They have sexual relations) only with their spouses, or what is legally theirs - [70:31] anyone who transgresses these limits is a sinner. أَيْمَانُهُمْ = See: 9:12. 9:13, 16:94 = oaths [9:12] If they violate their oaths after pledging to keep their covenants, and attack your religion, you may fight the leaders of paganism—you are no longer bound by your covenant with them—that they may refrain. [9:13] Would you not fight people who violated their treaties, tried to banish the messenger, and they are the ones who started the war in the first place? Are you afraid of them? GOD is the One you are supposed to fear, if you are believers. 30:28 = servants 4:3 = you already have  33:50 = what they already have 16:71 = subordinate  4:25 = slave 9:12 = oaths 9:13 = oaths 4:24 = took a vow for marriage [33:55] The women may relax (their dress code) around their fathers, their sons, their brothers, the sons of their brothers, the sons of their sisters, the other women, and their (female) servants. They shall reverence GOD. GOD witnesses all things. Divorce  Marriage Arbitration [4:35] If a couple fears separation, you shall appoint an arbitrator from his family and an arbitrator from her family; if they decide to reconcile, GOD will help them get together. GOD is Omniscient, Cognizant. Divorce Discouraged  [4:128] If a woman senses oppression or desertion from her husband, the couple shall try to reconcile their differences, for conciliation is best for them. Selfishness is a human trait, and if you do good and lead a righteous life, GOD is fully Cognizant of everything you do. Polygamy  Grounds For Polygamy [4:3] If you deem it best for the orphans, you may marry their mothers—you may marry two, three, or four. If you fear lest you become unfair, then you shall be content with only one, or with what you already have. Additionally, you are thus more likely to avoid financial hardship. Polygamy Discouraged [4:129] You can never be equitable in dealing with more than one wife, no matter how hard you try. Therefore, do not be so biased as to leave one of them hanging (neither enjoying marriage, nor left to marry someone else). If you correct this situation and maintain righteousness, GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful. Polygamy was a way of life until the Quran was revealed 1400 years ago. When the earth was young and under-populated, polygamy was one way of populating it and bringing in the human beings needed to carry out God's plan. By the time the Quran was revealed, the world had been sufficiently populated, and the Quran put down the first limitations against polygamy. Polygamy is permitted in the Quran, but under strictly observed circumstances. Any abuse of this divine permission incurs severe retribution. Thus, although polygamy is permitted by God, it behooves us to examine our circumstances carefully before saying that a particular polygamous relationship is permissible.  1. It must alleviate pain and suffering and not cause any pain or suffering. 2. If you have a young family, it is almost certain that polygamy is an abuse.  3. Polygamy to substitute a younger wife is an abuse of God's law. Don’t ascribe to Hadith and the disgusting lies they have about the prophet. As far as I am concerned the prophet was bound by the Quran. God Strengthens the Messenger [17:73] They almost diverted you from the revelations we have given you. They wanted you to fabricate something else, in order to consider you a friend. [17:74] If it were not that we strengthened you, you almost leaned towards them just a little bit. [17:75] Had you done that, we would have doubled the retribution for you in this life, and after death, and you would have found no one to help you against us. [17:76] They almost banished you from the land to get rid of you, so they could revert as soon as you left. [17:77] This has been consistently the case with all the messengers that we sent before you, and you will find that our system never changes.

Tameka Kee has spent the last decade connecting the dots of technology, media, and marketing. Currently the Vice President of Content & Strategy at Wise Public Relations, she joins us today to talk about some common misconceptions of virtual reality, where we are now with the technology, what she sees emerging in the coming years, and how it is changing in both consumer and enterprise markets. She also talks about successful moments in integrating sponsors into events, and lessons she is learning now as she begins to produce events in the VR/AR universe.   Takeaways: [3:25] Tameka is also the head of the LA Chapter for the VR/AR association, an industry trade group dedicated to advance and connect digital technology experts and enthusiasts. [6:19] VR is on a continuum of how immersive an experience it is, and Tameka sees the Oculus Quest as a game changer on the consumer front. [10:11] In the enterprise, VR is changing how companies do HR training that requires empathy and compassion, as the sensory-motor activity makes participants really feel like they are there in real time. [12:05] In medicine, there are a lot of VR and AR companies creating ways to make surgery better, and help doctors perform at super in-depth performance standards. [17:40] Tameka comes from a journalistic background and remained a champion for integrity and information even when she shifted to working in an event and sponsorship space. She hasn’t won every battle, but most times finds that audiences and events align with high-value content. [29:30] Part of the challenge with events in digital marketing is sponsors want to be thought leadership sponsors, when other opportunities may make for a more authentic and trustworthy integration. [37:37] Digital marketers can benefit in looking at events from other industries to get inspiration. [40:41] As much as the advertising and digital industry changes, relationships and networking still are at the forefront of long-lasting and consistently attended events. [42:11] As both an event producer and programmer, Tameka sees there are many aspects to consider such as name recognition, content, and financial contribution. [47:28] Tameka loves events due to her natural curiosity, love of seeing what’s coming up, and interacting with the leaders of the present day and the future. [56:14] It takes effort to find good speakers and organize an agenda and book a venue; oftentimes, people underestimate the responsibility of an events planner. [62:36] Tameka explains The Influx Lab, and the upcoming event on December 1 to discuss the conversation about all aspects of mixed reality. 节目名称:Screen Age 节目主题:恐怖电影合集 Horror Movies CollectionJ: Hello, my lovely audience, welcome back to our Screen Age. T: Hi, I'm xxx. what kind of films do you like during your leisure time. J: I usually choose some comfortable movies, such as affectional movies or some comedies. But some special days, when I feel bored, I will watch something terrifying.T: Oh, I think today's program will let you fell excited. Today, our melody is terrifying.J: Wow, I almost can't wait to hear it ! T: Now, let's start.D: Hey, Sarah. Which horror film you have seen is your favourite?SH:I think it must be"The Other". It talks aboutthat after the end of the second world war, Grace, the heroine ,who raised a couple of children alone on the British Isles, waited for the return of her husband, meanwhile, three new servants appeared suddenly and a series of strange things happened.D: Wow, I supposed that maybe I have seen it, too. In my opinion, it's more like phychological thriller. The film does not create a thriller in its own way, but in a somber atmosphere that brings the horrors to the hearts of the people. SH:Yeah, you're right. Until the end of the movie, itfinally forms the terror that are stirring and locksup at the same time to bring charges against the war and the human nature.D: Right. It is a work that makes you a shudder at last. The well-intentioned misdirection runs through from the beginning to the end, until the end of an anti-traditional bottom: people frighten theghosts. That is so cute! SH:Therefore, it deserves for the compliment.D:Yes. However, in my mind, it has some similarities with "The sixth sense". If free, you can try to watch it. You're supposed to like it.SH: OK. I will take a try! S:I watched a horror movie with my best friend a few days ago and it scared my best friend to death.T:You went to the horror movie again. What is?S:Yeah,it is“Happy Death Day”T:You are so interested in horror movie. But why is it called "Happy Death Day"S: It is a great movie and the name is very interesting.T:It's do interesting. What story does it tell?S: Terry was murdered on her birthday, woke up alive the next morning, and was murdered again and again until she found her killer.T:It is so amazing!Did she find the killer at last?S: She surely found it. You can't imagine who the killer is.Find out if you're interested.T:You know what? There is a new horror movie about to be released recently, which is called"A Quiet Place". Since you like horror movies, you should go to see it.S:It sounds very cool. What does it tell?T:The film tells the story of a family with two surviving children who come to the countryside to avoid the monsters. They communicate in sign language and spend their days carefully.S: And then, what happened to them?T:Ha-ha, then you can go to the movie theater yourself.S: It really succeeded in attracting my interest.T:The film was released in China on May 18, 2018.D: Have you ever seen the trailer of Blumhouse's truth or dare, a new horror film directed by Jeff Wadlow? C : Of course I have. The film, obviously getting a trailer to go with Insidious. You play truth or dare, and if you refuse the truth or the dare you die. D: The rough plot is: Olivia, Lucas and a group of their college friends travel to Mexico for one last getaway before graduation. While there, a stranger convinces one of the students to play a seemingly harmless game of truth or dare with the others. C: Once the game starts, it awakens something evil -- a demon which forces the friends to share dark secrets and confront their deepest fears. The rules are simple but wicked -- tell the truth or die, do the dare or die, and if you stop playing, you die. D: If you want to know why horror was so huge in 2018, that's my theory. These films are newish, mostly original and usually not targeted at nostalgic adults but rather at today's kids. So, yeah, apples and oranges perhaps, but Happy Death Day is arguably more relatable to today's kids than Transformers: The Last Knight. C: I think Happy Death Day and Blumhouse's truth or dare fill a gap in terms of being seen at just the right (or wrong) age and inspire fandom accordingly. And I can't wait to watch it in the cinema.Sh : Did you see the movie Player One? That's amazing ! And the tributes to The Shining also reminds me of the feelings I had before.J:you have seen The Shining too? Of all the movies and tv shows which have featured on supernatural , the Shining is one of the most often mentioned and referenced. Sh : yes. It is a 1980 feature film by Stanley Kubrick based on the novel of the same title by Stephen King. J : Here is the story. Jack has taken his family to an isolated inn so he can finish his novel. His young son Danny , has creepy visions of past and future events at the hotel. Sh: And another character referred to this “gift” as The Shining, hence the title. Jack becomes influenced by a supernatural presence and descends into madness, eventually turning on his family in a murderous age. J: Kubrick's genius on The Shining is to exploit everything artificial and awkward about film to create extreme tension. The performances are strange and artificial and uncomfortable , has none of the usual “horror” atmosphere. Sh: there's also a documentary about it called Room 237 ,in case you don't understand the “weird” spots in the film. That is also a masterful work.C: Hey, guy, how exciting it is!S: I can't agree with you anymore. We may feel bored sometimes in our lives, this time why not try some terrifying films to look for a stimulus ?C: Yes, it's a really good choice. By the way, we don't seem to have much time left.Maybe we'll say goodbye to our friends.S: Ok, see you next week, goodbye.C: Bye.

Welcome to Sesh Cast, a cannabis podcast for cannabis sessions. Today we talk with Tweedledoob! This is the first interview to air on Sesh Cast and with firsts comes some unforeseen issues. This time it's some low quality audio. Because of that, I'm putting a full transcript of the interview in the notes here! Without further ado: here's the thing!   GLDLX: Alright guys so welcome back to Sesh Cast. My name is GLDLX and today I am sitting down with someone you may just know from Instagram, you may just know from the cannabis related internet, Tweedledoob how are you? Tweedledoob: I'm awesome thanks for having me on. G: Yeah of course thanks for taking some time to sit down with me I really appreciate it! T: Yeah no problem. G: So for anyone who may not have heard of you before or may not really know who you are, can you give me a brief run down on what you're about and how you gained traction in the cannabis community? T: For sure. So mostly I do cannabis photography and social media promotion kind of stuff. I've had my Instagram going for just over three years now; I started it while I was working at a cannabis lounge during university. So in Toronto there are these amazing places you can go, you just bring your own weed, pay five bucks and just hang out basically. So I kind of like supervised stoners for like four and a half years and that kind of really got me in to the industry. [I made] a lot of connections and kind of figured out that I don't know exactly what I want to do, but the cannabis space is definitely the place for me. So it kind of gave me some direction and then my Instagram I just kind of started for fun. I never expected that it would turn in to my full time gig but yeah I mean pretty crazy. G: So you said a couple words that, I'm based out of America and I think a lot of people also based out of America  may have no earthly idea what you just said. So a cannabis lounge! That's something cool that we definitely don't have a lot of here. Can you explain a little bit more about what it was like to babysit stoners for four years? T: For sure it was amazing. It's a really fascinating place I think people have this idea of who stoners are but when you open up a space like that you see that it really, it's really hard to define. So like everyone from 18 to 80, if you don't have a place to consume cannabis at home, or people don't know that you consume cannabis or whatever the case may be, it's kind of just a safe space where you can go and use your cannabis. So in Toronto here currently its actually not fully legal or regulated but there have been lounges in the city for about 20 years now. So it's when you walk in they all kind of have their own vibe but its essentially like a cafe or a bar type of feeling, but there's no alcohol, no tobacco just cannabis. G: Man that's super cool. So how many of these would you say there are in Toronto like how popular is that? T: Right now I think there are five in the city. There have been other ones over the years that have kind of come and gone, but there's, yeah I think there's five right now. G: Cool very cool. It looks like you've got a joint rolled up. I have one too so I'm going to take a second to spark up so yeah we'll put it on pause for a second cheers! So you were smoking on something I'd never heard of, what was that? T: It's called honey rock. I've never heard of it either to be honest, this is my first puff we're just testing it out. What are you smoking? G: I have I think the very end of my gdp. I just picked up yesterday and I got gorilla glue #4 and jack herer so this is the end of my very last buy from almost a month ago when I stalked up for 420. So the other thing that you said that I think is very foreign to anybody here in America is just the use of the word university. So for anybody who doesn't know that's going to college because that's not a phrase that we use here in a America, but one thing that I think is really interesting is that in your Instagram bio you have your majors from your college experience which means it must've been somewhat important to you and is still somewhat important to you. So can you talk to me a little about that? T: For sure interesting question, so  yeah it is kind of an easy way to just tell a little bit about myself in the bio. I feel like people coming to your page don't really, we make judgments so quickly, right, on Instagram it's like you go to someone's new page five seconds later you're like 'nope not for me' right, so I thought kind of putting that in my bio kind of tells a little bit more about me than my first few pictures or whatever you might see and if people are interested in philosophy or Buddhist philosophy they might take another second to stick around. I also think it's something that's kind of different. There's really not that many people studying philosophy or Buddhist philosophy these days so yeah just a point of differentiation I guess. G: Yeah and I think philosophy is really interesting because the more that you end up as a stoner the more in to open thought and philosophizing you become. So how has your interest in philosophy and specifically Buddhist philosophy carried over into your experiences in the cannabis community or how has your cannabis experience meshed with the way you've studied or experienced philosophy or Buddhist philosophy? T: So to the first part of that question, while I was going to university I was spending a lot of time studying in vapor lounges and places where people just naturally end up having philosophical conversations. Even though they may not have the formal academic language to talk about it I think these things, people get high and think about big ideas very often so I think just spending time in those places around people who are open to having interesting conversations or talking about things they don't understand really helped me develop my thought process and the ability to take an academic idea and be able to talk about it with people who don't have that same kind of formal education. Not to say that they don't have valid opinions or ideas it's just, yeah, philosophy and Buddhist philosophy, these ideas aren't things that we really talk about all the time in our daily lives but I think some people are quite interested in it so it's an interesting cross over  I think. G: Yeah did you ever meet anybody in a lounge that really hit you in a way that you'd never thought about something or sort of turned something around on you that made you think you were possibly sitting down with another modern day stoned philosopher ? T: You know the first thing that came to mind, the first person that popped in to my head, I had a few people come in when I was working at the lounge who had been having conversations, philosophical type conversations with friends and were kind of at a lost point and didn't know like you can really think yourself in to a corner sometimes in philosophy which is why I think people tend to avoid it or avoid big ideas that they don't understand. If there's no clear answer sometimes its better just not to think about it right? So I've gotten in to some very interesting discussions where people are coming at from a very personal way and are just trying to work through like [other] concepts and its definitely changed my perspective on some things where you can have kind of what, you know, what you read in a book, but when somebody challenges you with their own ideas you have to really be able to like work through a concept and not just go by what the book says. I don't know if that makes sense. G: Yeah that makes total sense T: Personal philosophical conversations with people at lounges, which I think is like one of my favorite things. G: That's awesome. Is that something that still happens now even though you don't work at a lounge? T: Maybe not so much, but I get some interesting dms I'll tell you. G: Really? T: I mean of all sorts. Not to many philosophical conversations, not regularly, but people definitely, I don't know what it is but people message me about their personal problems or their big questions they have in their lives that they're feeling lost or whatever. I don't know what it is, but I guess people feel like they can relate to me or that I may have some kind of, some kind of perspective on whatever issue they're having. So I do get in to intense conversations with strangers in my dms now. G: Interesting that's super cool and I think that that kind of bleeds back into the way you have become a cannabis influencer on Instagram. Actually I was reading your blog a little bit earlier, if anyone is interested in following up a little bit more with Tweedledoob you can find a lot more stuff at Tweedledoob.com off Instagram, and I was reading your blog a little bit earlier and one of the things I saw that you talked about was going from just being in the cannabis space and being a cannabis photographer, to actually starting your Instagram to actually putting yourself on your Instagram as a person as opposed to just your photography and your content from the cannabis space. So how has the transition been, for anyone who is listening who is interested in being a digital influencer of some sort or wants to know a little bit more about what it's like to be a digital influencer or a digital content creator. How have you sort of swung your life and what sort of changes have you come in to and experiences have you come into by becoming a digital influencer with a face and a persona online as opposed to just a handle and some photos? T: Yeah great question. It's been about two years since I started putting more of myself online and it was a big deal kind of for me. For the first year I had Instagram I felt super weird about it. I felt like I'm not Tweedledoob, like Tweedledoob is like my Instagram account and just my photos and I was really hesitant to put more of myself out there for a variety of reasons. And really the content creation and like influencer thing didn't really come until I was starting to put myself out there more and I think part of the reason why is because like even just kind of straight up looking as peoples accounts as accounts you don't think of them as real people a lot of the time. If you don't know what [someone looks like]you have a certain appreciation for it but you think of it like an account right? But that's like somebody that just like wakes up and eats and sleeps and does [everyday] things right? So I think my kind of traction started to come when I started to put my, let my life on there. And so part of that was because I was working at the lounge at the time so I had an [interesting new] day to day experience even though it was my kind of like 9-5. I was just like going to work and smoking weed and I think that kind of fascinated a certain group of people, but I think what the main thing that's kind of given me the most amount of traction and it came from putting more of myself out there is the connections with other people other people in the cannabis space other photographers you know you can learn more skills you can really connect with people human to human when you're actually putting yourself in the line, putting more of your personality. And I think a huge part of that was video as well. Videos I think really changed the way you can interact with other people online yeah I don't know let me think about that. G: Yeah I think that's really interesting. You become in such an interesting situation when you start to put yourself on line as opposed to just your content to a point where you become your own content and I think that once you hit that point of becoming your own content it's a really interesting ship to navigate, or excuse me a really interesting sea to navigate. Of how much of myself do I put online, what sort of online persona do I have, who have I become to people that they want me to keep up with? T: That part I'm not so in to. That for me, the stuff that I put out I have to feel totally comfortable putting video out or putting content out that I know this wide variety of people will see like all of my family and my boyfriend's family will see it including like grandparents right all the way down to like friends and strangers and like fifty percent of my audience is outside of north America like people that don't even speak the same language as me. So I think if I tried to cater [to] these certain groups I think it would get really confusing and overwhelming and so I have to just like be myself enough and feel comfortable and confident to just like a hundred percent be me to all these groups of  people. I'm ok with them seeing it because it's me it's not like I'm trying to be this one thing for somebody or trying to like get likes from this one certain group. I just kind of have to be me and that's the only way I can be comfortable doing videos or putting myself out there. G: And that's such a cool way to look at things and I think almost an old school way of being a content creator. I know that were of the age where the birth of YouTube is something I remember very well I don't know how interested in YouTube or anything you are. But I remember when YouTube went from just a place that there were videos on the internet to something you could make as a career T: Totally G: and back at the very beginning it seemed like people were just putting things out that they wanted to put out. And today it seems so analytically based and so fit in to the algorithm and that's true with Instagram as well. Like how can I do everything I can to make sure the most people see what I want [them to] see and it almost warps your content in to something you don't really want to create. So I think it's really interesting and super commendable to hear someone say 'I want to put out stuff that I'm super comfortable with and something that isn't catered to get clicks from a certain group of people' so that's really cool and I really appreciate  that! T: Thanks man yeah same. Great question too it really got me thinking too. It's taken a lot to come to that really, like I wouldn't have been able to give you that answer a year ago. Or it's, this whole thing is just so quickly evolving. Even just Instagram, like the algorithm change earlier this year has totally changed the way that I'm using Instagram and the features and how I'm using them it's just this constantly evolving thing. So yeah it kind of makes it interesting or sort of challenging to navigate but yeah that said I think in one way I almost have to go back on something I said, I was thinking while you were talking, I can't say that I a hundred percent don't think of what people want to see or don't think of. I do have this like, there's kind of a separation between the things that I post about my life and about myself and like I am still creating content for myself and for other people and in creating content it like, you're right, do you know Gary Vee? G: The name is very familiar, but could you tell me who it is? T: Yeah he's kind of hard to describe. He's like a business mogul. Like he's kind of like really gotten popular in the last three years through his social media stuff and he's really, he gives a lot of business advice. He's kind of like motivational speakerish, he's got a podcast, he's kind of everywhere right now. But one of the things he was talking about over the last year kind of social media wise is the difference between creating and documenting. So a lot of people are like just on the content creation side of things and it's like you can have a very curated account and its very like almost clinical like for a business or whatever. Like you see some people like that too where they only have like super ultra posed photos of themselves and you don't really know who that person is ya know? It's just this image they've kind of created of themselves and the other side of that what Gary Vee has talked a lot about and sort of the upside of doing this is just straight documenting. Like people do want to see kind of behind the scenes and get to know who you really are I don't know why really but humans, we're so fascinated with each other and other peoples stories and that's almost the easier content to create, just like documenting your life. But like I'm trying to kind of have a balance between the two. I don't want to exclusively do one or the other so in content creation I kind of do, this is why I started talking about this, I kind of do try to cater to like what the stoners like or like what's the popular thing and what's the aesthetic that might get more traction. So in that kind of sense I am, like I do think more about that. But then on the documenting side I try to be like as authentic as possible and not really thinking about what people want to see if that makes sense? G: Yeah absolutely and that's again really interesting I think because it's almost the difference between putting out super curated, curated might be the wrong word, but super targeted and insincere content, versus putting out quality, yes this is targeted to what will perform well but I'm not putting it out there because it is what will perform well, I'm putting it out because it's the best performing version of what I want to post if I'm understanding you correctly. T: Yes that's exactly it G: So how much, I guess for people who aren't familiar with you and your career and your photography, how much of your full time career or part time career exists on Instagram and digitally? T: A very large part of it and increasingly so. I stopped working at vape on the lake last July, at the vapor lounge, the cannabis lounge. So it's been almost a year since I've been doing full time free lance. At the beginning of that it was, I was doing a lot more photography than the social media stuff. So I do photography for some of the local cannabis brands, so I do product photography and also event photography, and over the last year I've really kind of shifted towards documenting and doing more Instagram and I started my website and my retail stuff. I [have] kind of been focusing on building out a brand and not just being focused on being photographer. It's an important skill and it's a part of what I do and I think it always will be, but like I kind of realized there's like more, I think there's more of an opportunity for me to do more than market myself as just a photographer. But it's my full time it's my life. G: Yeah absolutely. Let's talk then a little bit about the photography side. Because I see cannabis photography on the internet and that's about the extent that I know of it is like 'wow that's weed and that weed looks super pretty.' So tell me a little bit about what that space is like and how it is being a cannabis photographer in a world that is very quickly turning its eyes more and more on to cannabis? T: Yeah for sure it's definitely a really interesting time and even the fact that a cannabis photographer is like a thing is really cool. For myself, I've really just been getting more serious about photography for about three years, so there's a lot of people in the industry who have a long standing career in photography and are just getting in to cannabis now, where as I feel like I still have a lot to learn photography wise but I have the cannabis thing down. I mean Instagram and social media are such a [huge open space] and so in one way you don't really have to be a professional photographer or professional cannabis photographer to get your cannabis photography online. If you have weed and have a camera you can kind of just get out there. So it's kind of an equal playing field in one sense where it's pretty open but it's really interesting because the internet is, there's people from everywhere consuming my content but the rules are different everywhere so what is legal for me not be legal for other people. Yeah I think that there's still a lot of [changes] to be had for the cannabis industry. Right now Canada is coming in to a legal recreational market across the country [relatively soon] so there will be some like, ya know, really official, legal, on-the-book cannabis photography for the first time like ever which is pretty cool. G: Yeah so I think its super interesting to hear you bring up the 'what might be legal for you might not be legal for everyone or somewhere else.' Something that we've talked about a lot on this podcast and that's really influenced not only me and my experience as a content creator, but for a lot of my friends and my followers as well, is the way that YouTube has removed a lot of cannabis related accounts in the last couple months. I don't know how much of that you're aware of? T: Yeah I mean almost every day on Instagram for a while I was seeing people saying like huge accounts are getting taken down. Like Coral Reefer she's been on YouTube for like nine years and all of her content just got taken down. It's pretty crazy. G: So what is it like working under that stress of 'what I'm doing is completely legal but somewhere else it might not be legal' and what has it been like working not only under that stress and that restraint, but seeing some of this other cannabis content face those repercussions and be removed. How has that experience been particularly for you? T: I guess this has to be prefaced with like, that I am a legal patient and it kind of gives me the confidence to just kind of do my own thing. So personally I don't feel like, I don't have that fear, the legitimate real life fear that a lot of people have as far as like posting content or whatever, whether its legal or illegal. But I mean yeah I think as far as we've come we have a long way to go right? I feel like federal changes in the US might be the one thing which actually makes YouTube or Instagram really; but I think YouTube has just recently come out and said that they're not, sorry it was Instagram, Instagram's community guidelines used to say that the promotion and sales of drugs were like, that was just something you couldn't do, but now apparently its more just to do with sales, the direct promotions of sales, but just like promotion of cannabis apparently they're not going to be like, if you're a medical patient just doing your thing and you're not actually promoting drug sales you couldn't lose your, [they won't] delete your account. I don't know why YouTube, I'm curious to know what YouTube's thing is, to see why they're just starting to [be] so hard on all of these cannabis accounts. Even like legal accounts that are just like educational got taken down. I think we just have more fighting to do right? Like cannabis is becoming more mainstream and there are so many changes happening all the time that it kind of feels like we're making progress but I don't think for lots of [folks] from the other side, when there's other people who are like[staunchly] against it, those people are going to have something to say and try to like make sure potheads don't take over. There are people who have vested interest in not having cannabis be legal and we still have some fighting to do for sure. G: Yeah that's really interesting and also super good to hear, that there's still a real confidence in being able to promote what is legal where you are, because I think one of the biggest things that the cannabis industry as a whole, and not even just the industry but people who smoke regularly need as a whole, are people to advocate for the normalcy of cannabis. And for people to really put out and prove that there's nothing about smoking weed that makes you lazy or a distress to society or anything like that. There are careers, there's an industry, there are functioning people and very motivated and driven people in the community, and without the confidence to post content that you've created that you feel good about and that is legal, without that confidence it's a real detriment to I think the community. So that's really positive and uplifting to hear as well. T: There are so many driven and motivated and very productive members of society that support cannabis to varying degrees, so I think over the next five years or so like that kind of image of cannabis user is going to become more prevalent. Because there are still so many people with an old school mentality that aren't really willing to see or change their perspectives, but it's happening. In Canada we're definitely seeing it with legalization coming this year. There's stories about cannabis in the news like on the main news channels, literally almost every day so it's coming. It's coming. G: To sort of wrap here, if people are interested in finding you, or learning more about you, or following more of your content and your life, where are the best places for them to go to find you? T: My main thing is for sure Instagram, you can find me @Tweedledoob. I also have a website tweedledoob.com. So I have like, I'll go to an event and take hundreds of pictures and then I might post one or two on Instagram, so I felt like I needed a place to post more of my photos. I have a bunch of albums on my website of different events and different places I've been, and I've also got my shop so, I don't know if you've seen my jolly joint image it's like a happy little joint. Have you seen that? G: Yeah, its great I love it! T: Yeah I've got all the merch on there and I'm going to be adding a bunch of new things in my shop really soon which I'm really excited about. Some stuff, some new art that's not Tweedledoob branded but my friend Champ Stiles is going to be making some cool, like he's a wood burner and he like does wood carving and wood burning things, so I'm going to have some weedy stuff of his on my site soon. And yeah I would say those are, through my website you can also email me Tweedledoob@gmail.com but there is a form on my site if anybody wants to reach out I'm always happy to chat.

节目名称:Screen Age 节目主题:Horror Movies CollectionJ: Hello, my lovely audience, welcome back to our Screen Age. And I can't wait to watch it in the cinema.Sh : Did you see the movie Player One?That's amazing ! 感谢制作梅嵩琳!

It's really hot recently and many people around me like it. The character is so lovely and lively that I lost myself in it.T: En.. So do I! It attracts me a lot. So today, let's go through some music of Home.S: Come on, I can't wait. 垫乐:Rihanna-As Real As You and Me T: It's my favorite singer Rihanna!S: Yes, can you make a brief introduce of your super star?T: Rihanna is not only a singer, but also a actor and a model. She was born in Barbados and developed in American.S: Actually. is a gentle one with her appealing voice. It decorates the movie. It seemed that the sad melody is not match the cute aliens, but the music appeared suitably. Also, Rihanna's voice is throughout the whole movie, because she dubbed for a girl.Kiesza-Cannonball S: Wow, It's extremely passionate right?T: Yes, the fire is burning. It's… It's just like a cannonball. And the atmosphere is high enough.S: You're right! How did you know that cannonball is just the name of the song. I think this kind of music is proper for Home. You guess, the aliens are crazier with the 《Cannonball》rang. During the music, they run faster, laugh louder, live happier.在浩瀚的宇宙中,四处漂泊的波波星族群,躲避瓜星人的追击,经历了种种搞笑的遭遇,终于发现地球是个完美的家园,于是便占领了地球。S:It's Rihanna again!T: You are right! The song is called “Dancing in the dark”, it's kind of Dance-pop music. Rihanna with Jim Parsons and Jennifer Lopez also stared as the lead role in “Home”. Rihanna even created a concept album for the film! S: Wow, they are all world-famous stars, by the way, I think they did well in the film! They are perfect for the role!T: Absolutely! But I like Jim's dubbing best! I love him since he acted “the Big Bang Theory”, I saw the movie because of him!S: Well, ok, just calm down, let's continue to shake with the song!Dancing in the dark T: The song you are listening to is from Jennifer Lopez, the name is “Feel the light”, It is a ballad song and the lyrics is so positive, can let people full of hope, “there's no more waiting ,we're still worth saving, feel the light, shining in the dark of night, remember what we forgot, I know it's a long shot, but we're bringing it all back.” I think it's also the theme of the film.S: Yeah, all the roles in this film are full of positive energy. Bianca Gracie of Idolator wrote, “the featherlight tune is a beautiful and delicate mid-tempo that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.”Jennifer的声音轻柔空灵,但是这首歌却能深深地烙印在我们的心里,实在是一首佳作Feel the lightT: Ok, it's all for today's program, see you next week, bye byeTowards the sunT: The last song we will share with you is “Towards the sun”, it's also from Rihanna. The song is a mid-tempo pop ballad with R&B music influences and features positive and optimistic lyrics.S: I like this song very much, it also received positive reviews from critics. Commercially the song was a moderate success peaking at 76 on the UK Singles Chart and 22 on the French singles chart.T: What an excellent performance! Let's enjoy it!
