Unser Sohn hatte vergangenes Jahr Früchte einer Eibe gegessen. Wahrscheinlich hatte die rote Farbe ihn dazu verleitet. Da wir wussten, dass die Pflanze hochgiftig ist, machten wir uns sofort auf den Weg ins Krankenhaus. Eine der ersten Fragen der Ärztin war, ob er die Kerne zerbissen und wie viele er gegessen hätte. Da wir es nicht wussten und er noch nicht reden konnte, musste er unter Beobachtung eine Nacht im Krankenhaus bleiben. Dann konnte er dankbarerweise entlassen werden. Bei weiteren Recherchen über diesen Baum erfuhren wir, dass in allen Bestandteilen, von den Wurzeln über das Holz bis hin zu den Nadeln und insbesondere den Kernen das tödliche Taxin enthalten ist, außer im roten Fruchtfleisch der kleinen Frucht.Diese Eigenschaft der Pflanze erinnerte mich an unsere Welt. Denn in unserem Leben werden wir immer und überall mit Sünden konfrontiert: Ungerechtigkeiten, Lügen, Lästern, Mobbing, Gewalt etc. Jeder von uns tut das täglich. Anscheinend ist alles von der Wurzel aus durchtränkt vom Gift der Sünde, das den ewigen Tod zur Folge hat. Doch ähnlich wie bei der Eibenfrucht gibt es doch etwas, was nicht vom Gift der Sünde kontaminiert ist: Jesus, der so gar nicht in unsere Welt passte, weil er nichts Böses tat. Da er keinen Anteil an der Sündenvergiftung hat, konnte er etwas ganz Einzigartiges tun. Er hat sein unverdorbenes (sündloses) Blut aus Liebe fließen lassen, damit jeder, der sein Vertrauen auf ihn setzt, von der Sünde und ihren Auswirkungen geheilt wird. Wer an ihn glaubt, bei dem hat das Gift der Sünde keine ewig tödliche Wirkung mehr, weil Gott ewiges Leben schenkt. With most people being required by their employer to work from home, I thought it would be timely to update you on what deductions you can claim and what evidence you need as substantiation.Start keeping record nowRemember, the onus of proof is on the taxpayer to substantiate any deductions they claim. If you use a tax agent, you probably won’t have to lodge this year’s income tax return until March 2021. How likely is it that you will remember everything you did and all the purchases you made in March 2020, one year from now? Unlikely right. Therefore, its best to start keeping records now.Expenses you may be entitled to claimHere’s a list of expenses you can typically claim.Running costsThese expenses include heating, cooling, lighting, cleaning, and so on. There are two methods you can use to calculate this deduction:1. Fixed rate - You can claim a deduction of 52 cents for each hour you work from home instead of recording all of your actual expenses for heating, cooling, lighting, cleaning and the decline in value of furniture. You can either keep a record of the number of hours you have worked from home during the coronavirus period. Or, if you regularly work from home, you can keep a diary for a representative 4 weeks; or2. Actual costs – You can use this method if you have a dedicated workspace and you can accurately apportion costs such as power, heating, cleaning and depreciation. You still need to keep a 4-week diary or actual record of hours worked to support your calculations.Obviously, for most people, the fixed rate option is the simplest. More information is available on the ATO’s website here.ConsumablesItems such as software subscriptions, stationery, paper for your printer and printer ink can be tax deductible. You must retain receipts as evidence.Mobile phone & internet expensesThere are two methods available to use to determine your tax deduction for mobile phone usage:1. A total deduction of $50 with limited documentation required. This method is appropriate when your device usage is incidental; or2. Claim a proportion of actual expenses. To work out the actual work-related proportion, you need to consider the amount of usage solely for work compared to the overall usage. Usage could include functions such as voice calls, text messages, data and app usage. You need to keep a diary for a representative four-week period to support your claim.Computer and office equipmentIf the cost of the equipment is less than $300, then you can claim a full deduction in the financial year the purchase was made. If the equipment costs more than $300, you must depreciate the item over its useful life. Note, if any equipment purchased is partially used for private use purposes, you will need to apportion the depreciation for its work use percentage.Expenses you may not be entitled to claimHere is a list of expenses that you are not able to claim.Rental expense or mortgage interest (occupancy expenses)Generally, you cannot claim a deduction for interest cost or rent paid in respect to a home office. However, if dedicated portion of your home is your principal workplace, then you can claim a portion of occupancy expenses. Generally, you would apportion the work-related and non-work-related expenses by floor area.Travel between home and workGenerally, you are not entitled to claim a deduction for the cost of travel between work and your home office e.g. if you need to go into the office to collect items.Certain government expensesIf you were to make a claim using the actual method, you cannot claim items such as council rates, land tax and water rates.ReimbursementsIf your expenses are reimbursed by your employer, you will not be able to claim these work-related expenses. However, if your employer has paid you an allowance for work related expenses, you can claim a deduction against this allowance.No capital gains taxIn most cases, there are no Capital Gains Tax (CGT) consequences of running a home office.Generally, if you use your home for an income generating/business purpose, you normally only be entitled to a portion of the main residence CGT exemption. That is, you wouldn’t be entitled to a 100% exemption. This is true if you claim occupancy expenses. However, if you do not claim occupancy expenses, then you would obtain the full main residence CGT relief.The ATO’s Golden RulesThe ATO has provided three rules in determining whether the deduction your claiming is eligible:1. The taxpayer must have incurred the expense themselves – and not have been reimbursed.2. The expense must be incurred in gaining or producing assessable income.3. The claim must comply with the substantiation rules – i.e. all records must be kept.Remember, the onus of proof is on the taxpayer. It is important to know what you’re eligible to claim before lodging your tax return and to make sure you don’t claim more than what you’re entitled to. Don’t be too aggressive just to save a couple of dollars in tax – it’s not worth the risk of attracting an audit. The risk of deductions falls on the taxpayer, not their accountant. It is imperative to get the right advice before claiming your deduction.Home office expense calculatorThe ATO has a home office expense calculator here.I hope you and your family are safe and keeping well. In every important way, US Immigration Courts are different from all other Courts under federal, state or local jurisdiction.  And in many important ways they are worse than any other American court.  Amy Taxin was part of an Associated Press team that spent two weeks at Immigration Courts in 11 cities and found a growing backlog already near one million cases.  Judges say they’re asked to do too much, too fast to do justice in too many cases.  And then there are the children, before the judge or just in the courtrooms, or in the hallways.  Too many children. The system is still unprepared for them.

Men det är också som om den ena bilden liksom glider över och vidare in i den andra, tills de tillsammans formar en hel räcka bilder, som på sätt och vis är varandras varianter: I taxin, i trappen, i hissen, i hallen. Taxin, trappan, hissen och hallen är allesamman varianter på vad den ryske litteraturteoretikern Mikhail Bakhtin kallar för tröskelns kronotopi. Kronotopi betyder tidrum och Bakhtin menar att romanens olika rum alltid är beroende av både berättandets och berättelsens tid. Litteraturens trösklar är inte bara trösklar i egen rätt. De är alltid också metaforiska och symboliska. Och i en sådan bildlig bemärkelse kan de här trösklarna även ta formen av en trappa, en hall och en gata eller ett torg. Bakhtin skriver att de är de viktigaste platserna i romanhandlingen, platser, där kriser, fall, återuppståndelser, förnyelser, klarsyn och beslut som bestämmer ett helt människoliv inträffar. Veronica Maggios låtar klamrar sig fast vid särskilda och avgörande ögonblick genom att upphäva de normala tidsliga och rumsliga lagar som gäller det mänskliga livet. Upprepningen Jag kommer bankas in i lyssnarnas trumhinnor med rytmens signaler om att vara på väg men aldrig komma fram, ungefär som i en klassisk mardröm. Jag kommer är också ett uttryck för orgasm, en bild som i sig kan symbolisera längtan efter helhet och fullhet, drömmen om ett onåbart existentiellt tillstånd. När låten tolkas i musikvideon blir bildligheten bokstavligt konkret, eftersom pop-personan Maggio där glider tillbaka, baklänges, som på ett rullband, och aldrig ens når ytterdörren i hallen i den egna lägenheten. Jag kommer insisterar på tröskeln som sådan. Det här insisterandet rör alltid vid existentiella brännpunkter och vändpunkter, eller för att tala med Bakhtin: det kombineras med vändpunktens moment i livet, med krisen, med ett beslut som förändrar livet, (eller med obeslutsamhet, fruktan att träda över tröskeln). Det handlar om avståndet i tiden, om minnet i sig, om bitterljuv nostalgi utan sentimentalitet men full av mening. Därför framstår den plats där all dåtid töms på mening som något alldeles fasansfullt för vad finns då kvar, när allt gått tillbaks till noll, som det heter i låten Sergels torg på albumet Handen i fickan fast jag bryr mig från 2013. Den låten, Sergels torg alltså, är en enda lång tröskelkronotopi. Men ännu mer är den en symboliserad absolut nollpunkt, där allt töms på mening för att kanske kunna fyllas på nytt, men därom finns ännu inget hopp. Kvar finns bara den tömda meningen och den förlorade innebörden i alla våra erfarenheter, minnen och vedermödor: Vad finns det då att bry sig om, över plattorna på Sergels torg? Torgets svartvita mönster tjänar som symbol för den möjliga meningslösheten. Samtidigt utspelar sig videon till låten på ett tömt turistkomplex off-season, med en känsla av efter-katastrofen-scen där inga andra levande varelser syns till. Först när jag ser Måns Nymans videotolkning av den inser jag att Maggioland också består av vad den franske filosofen Michel Foucault kallar för heterotopier, en sorts andra eller annorlunda platser. Heterotopierna är, som Foucault skriver, ett slags mot-platser, ett slags reellt förverkligade utopier i vilka de verkliga platserna, alla de andra verkliga platser som man kan finna i kulturen, på samma gång representeras, motsägs och kastas om. Musikvideons tömda turistkomplex är en typisk heterotopi, men genom att Sergels torg och turistkomplexet dessutom upphäver varandra i videon som sjunger om den ena och utspelar sig på den andra platsen, förstärks den heterotopiska känslan tusenfalt. Vi hamnar uppe i rymden, blickandes ner på jorden. Allt blir overkligt. Samtidigt samlas alla tider, allt blir hyperrealistiskt, allt flyttar in och gör sig hemmastatt, i likhet med Maggios pop-persona som har flyttat in och bosatt sig på det övergivna hotellet, medan swimmingpoolen dränker gamla skivspelare från länge svunna tider. Maggioland är inte bara heterotopiskt utan också heterokroniskt. Ibland skapar de olika tidslagren en total förvirring. Ur den här förvirringen stiger så med skoningslös skärpa: existentiella brännpunkter och smärtpunkter. En insikt om nuets och varats olidliga lätthet och brännande obarmhärtighet. Ju mer nostalgisk tonen är hos Maggio, desto fler tidsliga och rumsliga lager mättas den med tills den nästan brister av trängsel och smärta. Ju mer avståndet i tid blir till något oåterkalleligt, desto mer lyckas låtarna framkalla en närvaro av allt det som nu har gått förlorat. Hur långt bort i tiden det än var sedan något inträffade, glömmer jaget i texterna ingenting, någonsin, oavsett om minnena är positiva eller negativa. Som i låten Sju sorger på albumet Satan i gatan från 2011 som nyfiket försöker ringa in vad nostalgi, minne, upplevelse, erfarenhet och tid är för något. Det är här miraklet och förlossningen sker. För Maggios nostalgiska tematik kan i en psykologisk mening, även för lyssnaren, förvandlas till en kreativ energi. Länge leve längesen. Det var och är längesen, långt ifrån idag, men länge leve detta längesen, för avståndet är bara ett avstånd i tiden, inte i rummet. Låt det tvärtom leva här så länge jag lever, för jag glömmer absolut ingenting. Bara för att något inte längre är nu utan då, betyder det inte att detta då inte längre är här. Egentligen är det själva avståndet i tiden som görs närvarande. De sju sorgerna och de åtta bedrövelserna konkretiseras, de förvandlas till en tumstock att mäta med: så här oöverkomligt är avståndet. Och det är avståndet i sig som kärleksfullt omfamnas. För trots att det finns en sorg och saknad i raden: Du kommer nog aldrig mer vara min vän, så görs den där dåtida vänskapen högst verklig och reell också i nuet, som ett här som känns, på riktigt, i kraft av minnena. Maggioland är ett nostalgiskt land, i positiv mening och med minst lika många negativa konsekvenser. Minnena ljuger nämligen aldrig här. Allt finns kvar, också det som helst skulle glömmas. Och det är just det som gör det så fullt av nerv och liv, en energi som pumpas rakt in i låt efter låt.
