Ausgerechnet Sachsen-Anhalt (siehe aktuelle Umfragen zur Wahl im Herbst) ist Vorreiter bei Strompeichern: Dort ist der größte Batterieverbund Deutschlands ans Netz gegangen mit einer Leistung von 250 Megawatt und einer Kapazität von 500 MWh. Grundsätzlich brauchen heimische Vögel kein Futter von uns. Singvögel, Greifvögel und Eulen finden genug und artgerechtes Futter selbst. Und auch im Winter ist Zufüttern nur in Ausnahmefällen nötig. Die gesetzlichen Regelungen zum Füttern von Vögeln aller Art sind von Kanton zu Kanton verschieden. Grundsätzlich verboten bzw. bewilligungspflichtig ist es jedenfalls bei Greifvögeln und Eulen. Singvögel können oder sollen höchstens gefüttert werden, wenn im Winter während längerer Zeit eine Schneedecke liegt und/oder die Böden gefroren sind. Wichtig ist dabei immer das richtige, artgerechte Futter. Von Brot und anderen Lebensmitteln wird dringend abgeraten, sie sind für Vögel nicht verträglich. Singvögel brauchen Samen und Kerne oder Früchte. Auch sollte der Futterplatz regelmässig von Kot befreit werden. Und er sollte «katzensicher» sein, um für die Vögel nicht zur Falle zu werden.

Die Mispel (Mespilus germanicus) ist eine sehr alte Wildobstfrucht. Neuerdings gibt es verschiedene Sorten mit grösseren Früchten. Der robuste Baum wird bis 6m hoch, der mehrtriebige Strauch bleibt mit 3m deutlich kleiner. Die Mispel bevorzugt sonnige bis halbschattige Standorte und bereichert eine Wildhecke zusammen mit Wildrosen, Berberitze, Liguster, Schlehe und Weissdorn. Frühlingsbote Ende Mai erscheinen weisse, grosse Blüten, welche etwas nach frischen Gurken riechen. Die rostbraunen Früchte werden erst im Spätherbst reif. Nach dem ersten Frost werden sie vom Baum geschüttelt, in flachen Harassen an einem vor Regen geschützten, schattigen und kühlen Ort nachgereift. Erst dann werden sie weich, aromatisch und süss. Zum roh essen werden die fünf Kelchzipfel weggeschnipst. In der Frucht sind fünf harte Kerne. Sie schmecken aromatisch nach Datteln, Feigen und leicht herb, säuerlich, süss- super für Gelee, da sie gut gelieren. Im Winter bei frostfreiem Wetter setzen – dann kann man nächstes Jahr für Weihnachten ernten!
