Bible study for March 28, 2025, is cancelled.Scripture Reading: Acts 27:1–44 27 When it was decided we would sail to Italy, they handed over Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion of the Augustan Cohort named Julius. 2 We went on board a ship from Adramyttium that was about to sail to various ports along the coast of the province of Asia and put out to sea, accompanied by Aristarchus, a Macedonian from Thessalonica. 3 The next day we put in at Sidon, and Julius, treating Paul kindly, allowed him to go to his friends so they could provide him with what he needed. 4 From there we put out to sea and sailed under the lee of Cyprus because the winds were against us. 5 After we had sailed across the open sea off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we put in at Myra in Lycia. 6 There the centurion found a ship from Alexandria sailing for Italy, and he put us aboard it. 7 We sailed slowly for many days and arrived with difficulty off Cnidus. Because the wind prevented us from going any farther, we sailed under the lee of Crete off Salmone. 8 With difficulty we sailed along the coast of Crete and came to a place called Fair Havens that was near the town of Lasea. 9 Since considerable time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous because the fast was already over, Paul advised them, 10 “Men, I can see the voyage is going to end in disaster and great loss not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.” 11 But the centurion was more convinced by the captain and the ship's owner than by what Paul said. 12 Because the harbor was not suitable to spend the winter in, the majority decided to put out to sea from there. They hoped that somehow they could reach Phoenix, a harbor of Crete facing southwest and northwest, and spend the winter there. 13 When a gentle south wind sprang up, they thought they could carry out their purpose, so they weighed anchor and sailed close along the coast of Crete. 14 Not long after this, a hurricane-force wind called the northeaster blew down from the island. 15 When the ship was caught in it and could not head into the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along. 16 As we ran under the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were able with difficulty to get the ship's boat under control. 17 After the crew had hoisted it aboard, they used supports to undergird the ship. Fearing they would run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor, thus letting themselves be driven along. 18 The next day, because we were violently battered by the storm, they began throwing the cargo overboard, 19 and on the third day they threw the ship's gear overboard with their own hands. 20 When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and a violent storm continued to batter us, we finally abandoned all hope of being saved. 21 Since many of them had no desire to eat, Paul stood up among them and said, “Men, you should have listened to me and not put out to sea from Crete, thus avoiding this damage and loss. 22 And now I advise you to keep up your courage, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only the ship will be lost. 23 For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve came to me 24 and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul! You must stand before Caesar, and God has graciously granted you the safety of all who are sailing with you.' 25 Therefore keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will be just as I have been told. 26 But we must run aground on some island.” 27 When the fourteenth night had come, while we were being driven across the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors suspected they were approaching some land. 28 They took soundings and found the water was twenty fathoms deep; when they had sailed a little farther they took soundings again and found it was fifteen fathoms deep. 29 Because they were afraid that we would run aground on the rocky coast, they threw out four anchors from the stern and wished for day to appear. 30 Then when the sailors tried to escape from the ship and were lowering the ship's boat into the sea, pretending that they were going to put out anchors from the bow, 31 Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these men stay with the ship, you cannot be saved.” 32 Then the soldiers cut the ropes of the ship's boat and let it drift away. 33 As day was about to dawn, Paul urged them all to take some food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day you have been in suspense and have gone without food; you have eaten nothing. 34 Therefore I urge you to take some food, for this is important for your survival. For not one of you will lose a hair from his head.” 35 After he said this, Paul took bread and gave thanks to God in front of them all, broke it, and began to eat. 36 So all of them were encouraged and took food themselves. 37 (We were in all 276 persons on the ship.) 38 When they had eaten enough to be satisfied, they lightened the ship by throwing the wheat into the sea. 39 When day came, they did not recognize the land, but they noticed a bay with a beach, where they decided to run the ship aground if they could. 40 So they slipped the anchors and left them in the sea, at the same time loosening the linkage that bound the steering oars together. Then they hoisted the foresail to the wind and steered toward the beach. 41 But they encountered a patch of crosscurrents and ran the ship aground; the bow stuck fast and could not be moved, but the stern was being broken up by the force of the waves. 42 Now the soldiers' plan was to kill the prisoners so that none of them would escape by swimming away. 43 But the centurion, wanting to save Paul's life, prevented them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land, 44 and the rest were to follow, some on planks and some on pieces of the ship. And in this way all were brought safely to land.OutlinePaul Sails to RomeLuke narrates the shipwreck with special detailGod wants Paul to go to Rome; Paul is innocentHow It StartedPaul and his companions are assigned to a centurionSailing from Caesarea to Asia MinorPut in at SidonTo Myra in LyciaTransfer at MyraWith difficulty they reached Fair HavensPaul's first warningWinter travel—a dangerous affairLet's winter in Phoenix! To PhoenixHow It's GoingThe weather suddenly changesFind shelter behind Cauda and haul the boat!Anything but the Syrtis!Preparing the ship for the worseAll hope is lostPaul Offers HopePaul rises as a leader and encourages themPaul has had a visionThe ship approaches some landSome sailors attempt to escapeEveryone on board shares a mealDiscarding more cargoLast ditch effort: run the ship agroundThe prisoners are sparedEveryone swims to shore; everyone is saved!

Welcome to the Creative Blood Experience. One culture-defining creative guest… One passionate host… And a deck of fifty question cards designed to yield incredible creative tips, real life experiences and untold stories from the artists working across the creative industries today!Shantell Martin is not your average artist. She's also a public speaker, cultural facilitator, curator, choreographer, songwriter, performer and mentor. And it's this all-embracing, boundary-blurring approach to creativity and artmaking that forms the basis of this episode.“For those of us who didn't grow up going to museums and galleries, the art around us is what people are wearing. For us, the museum is the postcard on your fridge, it's the t-shirt you're wearing, it's the sneakers you're wearing”.Originally from Thamesmead in South East London – the iconic brutalist housing estate where A Clockwork Orange was famously filmed – and now based in LA, Shantell is known for her signature, stream-of-consciousness line drawings, murals and ‘who are you?' slogan. Her kaleidoscopic CV has seen her collaborate with brands including Max Mara, The North Face, Tiffany and Co., as well as institutions MIT, The Whitney and Boston Ballet (where she also choreographed) and establish her own podcast series What's the Point? She even has her own open source font ‘Shantell Sans'! And that, if you can believe it, that's just for starters!Having navigated her way through the murky waters of the ‘art' world and got to a place where she now has the creative freedom to explore, in this episode she generously and candidly shares her experiences, learnings and insights picked up along the way. From why every artist needs a cocktail of skills, to what feedback to ignore, Shantell shines a light on the practical, proactive mindset needed to thrive within an opaque system.Follow Shantell @shantell_martin EPISODE INSIGHTSWhat you don't get told about the artists who've “made it” (and the hustling involved)Why you need to trust in your own visionThe value of peer support, mentorship, patronage and anyone fighting your cornerWhy art can exist everywhere, beyond the museum walls and traditional spacesThoughts on the episode? UK angel investors collectively invest £1.5 billion per year and are believed to be the largest source of investment for start-up and early-stage companies. Angel investors can bring cash to your business along with contacts and advice too. In this episode, I hear from Mathilde Lacombe, founder of French skincare and supplement brand AIME. Having previously co-founded beauty subscription service Joliebox, Mathilde founded AIME in 2018 to help others overcome similar skincare challenges to hers. AIME blends nutrition, supplements and cosmetic skincare and, amazingly, achieved €3 million in revenue in its first twelve months. With many founders wondering which type of investor to partner with, Mathilde shares how angel investment has helped her scale AIME and her advice on how to pitch to angel investors. Mathilde's advice:Angel investors tend to be experts in their field, and will be more interested in you as an entrepreneur and what you will bring to that field that's newVCs will be more focussed on the numbers and accurate forecastingWhen pitching to an angel investor it will be important to make an impression as a story-teller and an innovator with a visionThe best angel investors are those who are entrepreneurs themselvesIt's vital that you have a relationship with them in which you are comfortable asking for advice; you need this as much as you need their investmentIdeally you will be able to consult them regularlyMake a list of your dream investors/advisersDon't be afraid to ask for introductions; use LinkedIn and network to try to gain first-hand introductionsBe content with refusals; there is nothing lostDon't waste their time; they are usually busy people with a job as well as an interest in investingAsk outright for what you need; explain that you'll need advice as well as investmentYou can always start with small amounts which may gradually increase if they have confidence in you; you may not need to progress to VC investmentAngel investors will usually understand your long-term vision and be less fixated on end datesFinally, if you don't need investment, don't look for itIf you'd like to contact Mathilde you can reach her on mathilde@aime.coFF&M enables you to own your own PR. Wondering if you should start a private practice so that you can have more flexibility for your family? You're going to love this episode of Private Practice Success Stories!I sat down with Krista Jones to discuss how she did just that. She started her private practice after realizing that the long hours and low pay for her job weren't enough for her family. I've gotten to know Krista during her time in the Grow Your Private Practice Program and it has been amazing to watch her take off and truly build a practice that she loves while having the income and time flexibility that her family needs. In this episode she talks about where she gets most of her referrals- hint: it's a great strategy for pediatric clinicians! She also discusses what she's doing with her clinic space and her plans to hire additional staff so that her clinic can run without her so that she can focus on other aspects of her business and still be there for her family. Krista was born and raised in Southern California and moved to Georgia in August 2022. She started her SLP journey as a CF in an outpatient clinic treating individuals across the lifespan, however, the majority of her caseload was "late talkers" ages 0-3. After 2 years at the clinic, she transitioned to an elementary school in order to spend more time with her children. Krista always knew she wanted to eventually open her own speech clinic, and when she and her family moved to GA, the opportunity presented itself! She started offering free speech and language screenings to preschools and just recently opened her brick-and-mortar! She is looking forward to hiring soon and growing her practice. In Today's Episode, We Discuss:Krista's experience as an SLP and why she decided private practice was right for herHow Krista began to grow her caseload for her private practiceWhere she gets most of her referralsThe clinic Krista opened in order to help even more patientsHow Krista decided how much clinic space she needed for her future visionThe flexibility you get with your private practice to be with your familyThe tragic circumstances that lit a fire under Krista to make her private practice dream a realityKrista's plans for the future of her private practiceI hope you loved this episode with Krista! She is a perfect example of someone who knew that she was stuck in a job that wasn't supporting her and that in order for things to change, she needed to make a change. And just like Krista, you can do this too.If you would like to know more about our Programs and how we help support SLPs and OTs - just like we supported Krista, please visit https://independentclinician.com/learn-with-jena/.Whether you want to start a private practice or grow your existing private practice, I can help you get the freedom, flexibility, fulfillment, and financial abundance that you deserve. Brad Crowell 0:01 Fuck yeah. Lesley Logan 0:02 Get ready for some wins. Lesley Logan 0:05 Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring. I'm Lesley Logan, Pilates instructor and fitness business coach. I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt. My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear. Each week, my guest will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started.Brad Crowell 0:59 Hey, Be It family. Brad here stepping in for LL for this week's Fuck Yeah Friday. Welcome back to FYF, where we get to celebrate your wins and then we get to celebrate some wins of ours and talk about why we celebrate wins in the first place. So we have an amazing win from UK, Claire, Claire Sparrow. She's in our agency coaching group. And we just had an awesome opportunity to go over to England to meet up with her and do our mullet tour. Sure, you heard us mention that recently where we visited Scotland and then we went down into England to meet up with Claire. So Claire is from Scotland. And she's been living in England for a really long time. And she had this amazing dream of getting a cottage up in the north of Scotland. And she was finally able to make that happen. So here's what she wrote, "I'm here in Scotland at my cottage that I wrote down to make 2021 that I wanted to create in a year. A year later, we had a place that fell through because the universe just knew it wasn't for us. I really wasn't. It really wasn't for us yet I grieve that loss. And then I dug deeper into raising more funds by investing into further coaching. I upleveled my online offerings. And here we are two years later, exactly two years to the date that I wrote the vision for our Scotland home that we got. I wrote it, I wrote that I wanted it to be a traditional cottage in a village with woodlands, a river and a sea and walking distance and hills, too. By the way, I wasn't asking for too much, LOL. It turns out that's exactly what we got all of it. And today I'm here in the power of the pause I wanted to create, taking the entire month off. And in that vision that we, that the universe provided." So right now she's there for a full month up at her cottage. It's pretty amazing. She said, "And because I had that extra year of digging in and investing, we are now in a better financial position. So we feel even more confident taking the time off and doing some fun renovations to our new place. So today, this is my big win and I am full of gratitude. I also wanted to remind us all about the power of the pause, I have had more clarity and vision for the future in the four days since I've been here than I have had in ages, the space and the pause makes us more creative. It makes us more clear, concise, when we return back to our normal lives." Brad Crowell 3:24 So, Claire, unreal, we're so proud of you, we're so happy for you. I know we celebrated your cottage before, but I love that you took time off for yourself. And in that time off, you actually have been reflective enough to see what that pause, what that space is creating for you. I hope that it's bringing more like rejuvenating you more giving you more excitement and energy to return back home, giving you time to ideate to come up with better plans of how you can serve the people that you're serving, and make their lives better and continue to sell into them. We just love you so much. And we are so excited for you and your family. And maybe someday we'll be able to come see your beautiful space that you're carving out there, way up in the north and Scotland. Unreal, amazing. So excited. Y'all I hope you can see her win and take some of these suggestions in for you and see how they can be applied in your life. Maybe you can take some time off. Maybe you can take even just a day or even just an afternoon and give yourself that mental space to veg out to get caught up. Maybe take a nap. Maybe take a walk. But allow yourself to just think and I know for me, I pack my time so much that I hardly give myself time to think because I'm either listening to a podcast or I'm you know working or I'm you know, I don't know whatever it is. But my day is so, so full all the time that I very rarely give myself just time to pause. Right? And that actually leads me to my win. Brad Crowell 5:09 So, I gave myself this, this is way trivial compared to Claire's, you know, getting a cottage. However, for me, this is a big deal because I never give myself time to pause. I never give myself time. I just don't give myself time. Right? And normally, this is how I get my hair cut. I don't actually cut my hair, I just shave the sides of my head. And Lesley has an amazing hairstylist who's also a barber. And whenever Lesley goes and gets her hair colored, while Lesley's getting her, you know, the dye is of whatever, it's happening. And it takes time, right? 30, 45 minutes, she's sitting there waiting. And in that moment, I hop into the chair. The hairstylist is actually a famous barber, so she zips up the side of my head, gives me a nice haircut. But really, it's just a shave. She's just like, me, me, me, me, me and okay, you're done. You know, and, and that's all the time I ever really leave myself to go get my hair cut. Well, this time, I decided you know what we're about to hit the road, we're about to go on tour. And I want to actually get my hair cut for real, I want to look good, I want to feel good. And on a Saturday afternoon, instead of leaving myself 30 minutes to like, bing, bang, boom, get it done. I just scheduled a hair appointment. And I went in and I didn't have a stop time. And you know, she didn't have another client immediately after me. So we got to take our time and you know, chat and talk about the van being wrapped and do all these fun things. And then sit down and she worked on my hair and there was no rush, there was no stress and giving myself that time to actually get a haircut that I enjoy that makes me feel confident about me. That's my win today. And I hope that you are able to give yourself that same space that time that pause that Claire was talking about that I just inadvertently also gave myself and, and it was really enjoyable. So I hope that you can find something in there for you and schedule yourself an afternoon where you can do some self-care and feel confident about you and enjoying life. So thank you so much for listening, y'all. It's been so fun to do these pods. We love it. Hell yeah, for FYFs. You know, Fuck Yeah Friday. It is time for the weekend, y'all.
