In this episode, I am talking about how sharing our stories can lead to deep healing. I reflect on my own journey of speaking out about my experiences, particularly around the challenges of dealing with teen substance abuse and the misconceptions I held about healing. I emphasize that many of us often feel the need to have everything perfectly aligned before we share our truths, but this mindset can block our healing process. I share a pivotal moment from my past when I realized that speaking about my struggles not only helped me feel less alone but also opened doors to healing I never anticipated. Today, I am speaking with Podcast Host, Travis Robinson. Travis' life might seem defined by obstacles. Diagnosed with Parkinson's, he's faced relentless challenges—some expected, like mobility struggles, and others completely unforeseen, like losing his home and all of his photography gear in the Eaton fire. But rather than letting these hardships define him, Travis has built a life that proves limitations are meant to be challenged. In this episode, I want to share the journey of writing a book. It's a dream for many, with 81% of people expressing a desire to write a book, yet fewer than 1% actually follow through and publish one. I want to challenge you to consider whether you want to be part of the 99% who never take that leap or join the less than 1% who do. Throughout the episode, I explore the common fears and beliefs that hold aspiring authors back. Many struggle with feelings of inadequacy, fearing that their stories aren't significant enough or that they might hurt others. I emphasize that these fears often stem from a subconscious desire for safety and protection from exposure. It's crucial to recognize that the intent behind these fears is to keep you safe, but they can also prevent you from sharing your truth and helping others. In this episode, I am sharing the concept of alignment and how it can sometimes feel boring or uncomfortable, especially if you're used to living in chaos. We are conditioned to gravitate towards what feels familiar, even if it's not what we truly want. Our subconscious minds often choose chaos over peace because it's what we know. I emphasize that if you find yourself repeatedly returning to unhealthy relationships or stressful situations, it's likely because they feel normal to you. Imagine what it would feel like to train and reprogram your subconscious mind to become familiar with peace instead of chaos. You can create a whole new baseline. In this episode, I am sharing my take on the concept of "Let Them," inspired by Mel Robbins' teachings. I share my own journey and the lessons I've learned about control, choice, and the importance of allowing others to navigate their paths. I begin by reflecting on my experience attending a Mel Robbins event, where her powerful message resonated with me, despite my initial discomfort. I discuss how the idea of "Let Them" felt foreign to me as a parent who has faced the challenges of teen substance abuse. For me, the concept was not just about relinquishing control over trivial matters like prom; it was a matter of survival. I had to learn to let my children make their own choices, even when those choices were difficult for me to understand. In this episode, I share the power of metaphors and how they can help us understand our subconscious mind. I share a compelling metaphor involving two electrical outlets, one representing our past and the other our future. On the left side, we have the "old plug," connected to our daily thoughts, old patterns, and negative beliefs—essentially everything that has shaped who we are up to this point. This side is familiar and feels safe, but it often keeps us in a negative cycle. On the right side, we have the "new plug," which symbolizes our future potential, aspirations, and the identity we are striving to become. This outlet is connected to our visions and the possibilities that lie ahead. Every thought we have throughout the day is like a choice to plug into one of these outlets. The challenge is becoming aware of which plug we are connecting to and consciously choosing the one that aligns with our desired future. HIGHLIGHTS 00:00:00 - Introduction to Metaphors 00:00:12 - The Concept of Two Plugs 00:00:43 - Old Thoughts and Patterns 00:01:37 - The Future Plug 00:02:30 - Choosing Your Plug 00:03:45 - Reinforcing Neural Pathways 00:04:58 - Conscious Awareness and Unplugging 00:06:22 - Empowerment and Energy 00:07:25 - Changing Your Story 00:08:08 - Becoming Your Future Self Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Download “You Are Supported” Hypnosis and Subliminal Bundle HERE Join the next cohort of OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification (kick-off in March 2025) HERE Learn more about changing the Stories We Tell Ourselves Digital Program HERE. In this episode, I share the concept of becoming the version of ourselves that can hold our dreams before we chase them. Our nervous systems must feel safe and regulated to pursue our goals effectively. If we rush into chasing what we want without first anchoring into our identity, we risk operating from a place of lack rather than power. I share my journey of deciding to publish "Unreserved," highlighting the month I took to reflect on whether I was ready for such a significant commitment. This pause allowed me to assess my beliefs, emotional state, and the blocks that could hinder my ability to lead and sustain the energy of this project. If we chase our goals without addressing our internal barriers, we may experience burnout, self-sabotage, and the inability to sustain the results we are constructing and creating. In this episode, I share the journey of identity work and the ongoing process of breaking down limiting beliefs. After the exhilarating experience of the unreserved book launch party, which involved coordinating with 24 different authors and connecting with women from around the globe, I reflect on the personal growth from such expansive experiences. I emphasize that identity work is not a one-time breakthrough but rather a continuous process of chipping away at the concrete walls of limiting beliefs we have built over the years, if not decades. I share a powerful metaphor: just as you cannot smash through a thick concrete wall in one swing, you must chip away at it gradually. This analogy illustrates how we can shift our identities by consistently challenging and replacing our limiting beliefs. In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on the difference between reacting and responding and how this is connected to a lack or abundance mindset. As we navigate through life's challenges, especially when we feel overwhelmed, it's easy to slip into a reactive mode. Our reactions, which often stem from a place of lack and frustration, continues to reinforce the reality we are living in, and how, by reacting, we may inadvertently be fighting for our limitations. Whatever limitations we fight for, we get to keep. In this episode, I share thoughts on perception and how our brains filter the overwhelming amount of information we encounter daily. I start by expressing my gratitude to listeners for their support and shares, emphasizing the importance of being open to new perspectives and solutions that may be hidden from our view. I introduce the idea that we are not seeing reality as it truly is; instead, we only perceive what we are programmed to look for. With our brains processing 11 million bits of information every second, our conscious minds can only handle about 40 to 50 bits at a time. This means that what we consciously perceive is merely a fraction—0.0004%—of the reality around us. I explain how our brains delete, distort, and generalize information based on our beliefs and focus, which can significantly limit our understanding of the wrld. HIGHLIGHTS 00:00:12 - Perception of Reality 00:00:45 - Information Overload 00:01:59 - Conscious vs. Subconscious Processing 00:03:06 - The Role of Filters 00:04:31 - The Reticular Activating System (RAS) 00:06:38 - Examples of Perception 00:08:04 - Beliefs and Interpretation 00:09:10 - Shifting Your Mindset 00:10:47 - Finding Solutions 00:12:25 - Stacking Wins Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Download “You Are Supported” Hypnosis and Subliminal Bundle HERE Join the next cohort of OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification (kick-off in March 2025) HERE Learn more about changing the Stories We Tell Ourselves Digital Program HERE. In this episode, I am connecting with Tesa Arcilla. Tesa has never taken the conventional route—personally or professionally. A journalist by training and driven by an insatiable curiosity, she has lived and worked across multiple continents, carving out a career that defies easy labels. From live broadcasts at NBC and CBC to moderating high-stakes political debates for Euronews and the European Commission, she has spent over 20 years asking the tough questions, navigating complex global issues, and making sense of the world's turning points. But beyond the newsrooms and international assignments, Tesa's journey has been defined by bold choices—moving across the world for love, walking away from established career paths, and constantly reinventing herself. She understands what it means to take a leap into the unknown, to bet on yourself even when the path isn't clear, and to thrive outside the traditional mould. Now, she helps others do the same—own their voice, build influence with authenticity, and turn their expertise into impact—without the ‘cringe' of self-promotion. As the host of Choices & Chances, she dives into the defining decisions that shape lives and careers, helping others embrace uncertainty, make bold moves, and step fully into their potential. Whether on stage, moderating a panel, or mentoring thought leaders, Tesa brings a sharp mind, a global perspective, and a passion for real, unfiltered conversations that challenge, inspire, and drive action. Because in the end, life isn't about playing it safe—it's about making the choices that create the chances we truly want. In this episode, I ask the question, "Can you hold a vision when you can't see it yet?" I challenge the notion that we must wait for tangible evidence, like a certain bank balance or a fully booked calendar, before we can embody the person capable of achieving our dreams. We must first become that person internally to sustain the success we desire. Drawing from my personal experience, I recount my journey from being a kinesiologist for 27 years to embracing my calling as a coach. In 2019, I felt an unshakeable intuition that I would transition into coaching, despite not having a clear plan or business. Through continuous challenges and roadblocks, I continued to write and trust that I was being guided toward something greater. In this episode, I am sharing about the unexpected ways in which our desires manifest. I want to keep it real and share my insights on how asking the universe for something big often leads to challenges and discomfort rather than immediate fulfillment. I begin by discussing the concept of expansion and contraction, emphasizing that when we seek growth, whether it's in our personal lives, careers, or finances, we often encounter obstacles that feel like setbacks. I share my own journey of asking for expansion this year, only to face a series of personal and professional challenges that left me feeling like I was experiencing the opposite of what I desired. In one example, I share how my husband's injury during a crucial competition I illustrate how life can throw us curveballs just when we think we're on the right path. I reflect on the emotional turmoil that comes with these experiences and how they serve as lessons to help us grow into the versions of ourselves that can truly hold our dreams. In this episode, I share some thoughts on how self-sabotage is not merely a sign of weakness or failure, but rather a form of self-protection driven by our subconscious mind. When we find ourselves on the brink of progress, it's common to experience a pullback into old patterns. I want to help you understand why this happens. I challenge the traditional narrative around self-sabotage by encouraging listeners to ask more empowering questions. Instead of questioning, "Why am I doing this?"—which can lead to feelings of shame—I suggest we ask, "What is my subconscious trying to tell me?" This shift in perspective allows us to uncover the limiting beliefs that often disguise themselves as self-sabotage. HIGHLIGHTS 00:00:01 - Introduction to Self-Sabotage 00:00:33 - Understanding Self-Sabotage as Self-Protection 00:01:16 - Identifying Limiting Beliefs 00:02:40 - The Role of Effort and Patterns 00:03:40 - The Positive Intention Behind Behaviors 00:04:49 - Personal Experience with Self-Sabotage 00:06:03 - The Signal of Self-Sabotage 00:07:20 - Growth Through Evidence 00:08:55 - Launching New Programs 00:09:05 - Questions to Uncover Limiting Beliefs 00:10:30 - Reframing Negative Thoughts 00:12:37 - Visualizing Success 00:14:04 - Building Self-Trust 00:15:50 - Embracing Growth and Discomfort Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Download “You Are Supported” Hypnosis and Subliminal Bundle HERE Join the next cohort of OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification (kick-off in March 2025) HERE Learn more about changing the Stories We Tell Ourselves Digital Program HERE. In this episode, I share some thoughts on doubt and how much space it takes up in our lives. This episode emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and regulating our emotions, particularly doubt, which can feel like a volcano ready to erupt. Every item we feature in our seasonal boxes is made or designed in a small town in Canada with fewer than 30,000 residents. Virginia embodies the spirit of small towns, big dreams. As the founder and owner of Acre75 Gathered, a Canadian subscription box dedicated to supporting small town economies, she has partnered with over 150 small businesses since launching in 2017—infusing nearly $1,000,000 into local communities across the country. The power of self-compassion has deeply shaped her journey as an e-commerce entrepreneur, and she's now on a mission to encourage others to extend that same grace and love to themselves as they pursue their own dreams. In this episode, I am sharing the message of being "cracked open" by life's challenges and how these moments can lead to personal growth and clarity. I begin by sharing a powerful quote from Rebecca Campbell's book, "Light is the New Black," which emphasizes the importance of embracing the things that break us down, as they ultimately allow the light to shine through. This is a personal episode as I share the story of my husband, Brad, a Master's Olympic lifter, who faced a serious injury during a competition. As he set national records, he suffered a painful elbow injury that required immediate medical attention. This situation forced us to navigate a whirlwind of emotions and decisions, all while managing the urgency of his condition and the pressures of our personal and professional lives. Throughout the episode, I reflect on the overwhelming nature of life when it feels like everything is happening at once. I discuss how, in these moments, we often find ourselves stuck in overthinking and fear, but I emphasize the importance of trusting our bodies and instincts to guide us through tough decisions. I share how I learned to pause, breathe, and listen to my inner voice, which often knows the answers we seek, even when our minds are racing. In this episode, I share my thoughts on the concept of readiness and how it is a lie. I challenge the notion that we must feel 100% ready before starting new ventures. Drawing from personal experiences, I emphasize that readiness often results from taking the leap, not a prerequisite. I encourage listeners to reflect on their own lives and consider times when they felt prepared entirely—chances are, those moments are few and far between. I also touch on the significance of identity work, urging listeners to envision the person they aspire to be and to act as if they are already that person. By shifting our mindset and embodying the qualities of our future selves, we can break free from the constraints of waiting for readiness. I provide practical steps for listeners to visualize their goals and take immediate action, regardless of their current feelings of preparedness. HIGHLIGHTS 00:01:06 - The Myth of Being Ready 00:02:54 - Navigating Feelings of Unreadiness 00:04:10 - Listening to Your Inner Nudges 00:05:14 - Identity Work and Taking Action 00:06:37 - The Reality of Fear and Excitement 00:07:32 - Serving Your Audience Regardless of Size 00:09:10 - Shifting Your Mindset 00:10:56 - The Importance of Action Over Perfection 00:12:24 - Future Pacing and Visualization 00:14:45 - Deciding to Be Ready 00:16:00 - Building Confidence Through Action Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Download “You Are Supported” Hypnosis and Subliminal Bundle HERE Join the next cohort of OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification (kick-off in March 2025) HERE Learn more about changing the Stories We Tell Ourselves Digital Program HERE. In this episode, I connect with Rebecca Ogilvie. Rebecca is a Mother, entrepreneur, and advocate for women's empowerment. She believes life keeps getting better and is passionate about helping women create a life they love. Her journey began with her transformation. After years of prioritizing others, she reconnected with herself through small, intentional rituals—starting with skincare. That experience shaped her mission: to help women see their strengths, celebrate themselves, and embrace self-care as an act of self-respect. Through her skincare brand, The Detour Co, Rebecca reminds women that they matter. Her mission goes beyond skincare—it's about guiding women back to themselves so they can live radiant, confident lives. In this episode, I highlight the importance of awareness in recognizing these limiting beliefs. I discuss how our subconscious can drive us back to familiar patterns, often leading to self-sabotage. I encourage listeners to confront these thoughts and reframe them, asking themselves whether they are valid. Doing so can interrupt the negative loops that keep us from reaching our full potential. Things can become easier, but they never truly become easy. As we grow, we often confront subconscious beliefs that can hinder our progress. I candidly share my experiences of feeling nervous and self-doubting as I expand my offerings, particularly with the launch of my Master Practitioner program in NLP. This new venture felt daunting, and I found myself fighting with old narratives about success and worthiness, and the last year has been feeling all the discomfort of growth, even though it doesn't mean that I can't do it, it is just new and expansive and your nervous system has to learn how to hold your new growth. In this episode, I explore how we can shift our mindset from feeling like an imposter to embracing our authority. I start by posing a thought-provoking question: How would you like to perceive imposter syndrome differently? I emphasize that authority doesn't have to be a triggering term; it can simply mean owning your life and your message. Throughout the episode, I discuss the common reasons behind imposter syndrome, such as caring deeply about our work and comparing ourselves to others who seem more experienced. I highlight the importance of recognizing that we often compare our beginning to someone else's middle or end, which can lead to feelings of inadequacy.
