This time of year, we always start thinking about the holidays and holiday marketing. That's why I was so excited to chat with Caroline Balinska on holiday marketing. Here are 5 key points from my conversation with Caroline Plan in advance: One of the biggest mistakes businesses make is not planning holiday campaigns early enough. Starting at least three months in advance to set up social media posts, emails, and design imagery is not too early Focus on relevant holidays: Not all holidays are relevant to every business. It's important to pick holidays that align with your products. For instance, World Animal Day is more relevant for pet-related products than Valentine's Day. Stand out with unique content: For holiday campaigns, businesses should create fresh and themed content, including new imagery and emotional trigger words that resonate with their target audience. Leverage post-holiday opportunities: Businesses can continue benefiting from holidays even after they pass by extending promotions or using SEO strategies like Pinterest for long-term visibility. Budget for ads: Caroline advises putting ad budget behind special event days, especially niche holidays, to maximize marketing. Wildlife across the planet faces unprecedented challenges, from habitat destruction and illegal wildlife trade to climate change and human-wildlife conflict. According to the World Wildlife Fund, nearly 60% of global wildlife populations have declined since 1970. As the world unites to celebrate World Animal Day on 4 October 2024, EcoTraining, Africa's leading field guide training institution, calls for greater action to reverse this trend through the power of education, ensuring the survival of our planet's species. Every October 4th, we celebrate World Animal Day and the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. To honor the animals we love, we are re-running one of our favorite past episodes about pets. If you're an Arizona cowboy, those animals include horses and dogs, as well as a bobcat named Bobby, a hawk named Sylvester, and two javelinas named Sandra and Ann.

World Animal Day approaches (probably), and we are celebrating (kind of) with two festive songs about animal companions! "Santa Claus Rides a Strawberry Roan" by Jim Lowe is unfortunately less about celebrating its titular animal companion and more about shit-talking reindeer. "Jingles the Christmas Cat" by Freddy Cole doesn't give us much more in terms of lore, but dang, does it go down smooth. The ranking music in this episode is, of course, "A Horse with No Name" by America. Thank you to Myles for requesting "Santa Claus Rides a Strawberry Roan"!
In this episode, I discuss the deep and transformative connection between humans and animals. Through a series of meditation and journal prompts, I guide listeners on a 40-day journey to explore what animals can teach us about life, trust, intuition, and community. With examples from her own experience as an animal communicator and stories of animals like wildebeest and giraffes, I illustrate the wisdom animals can impart. I invite listeners to participate in this contemplative process, leading up to World Animal Day on October 4th, to gain new perspectives and deepen their connectedness with all life. Highlights: Deep Connection with Animals: I emphasize that communicating with animals offers profound insights into universal truths and can spark personal transformation. Trust in Human-Animal Relationships: Animals often trust humans more than we trust ourselves. They recognize our efforts and know that we're doing the best we can. 40-Day Journey of Transformation: By engaging with Karen's meditation and journal prompts for 40 days, individuals can gain a different perspective on life, animals, and the connectedness of all beings. Wisdom from African Wildlife: Specific messages from wildebeest, zebras, and giraffes illustrate how we can use our intuition, work in community, and utilize our unique gifts. Accessibility and Participation: Karen's prompts are accessible to everyone, regardless of their experience with animals, and I invite listeners to share their journey on social media and my website. Listeners can find these prompts across my social media platforms and on my website at revkarencleveland.com/paws, and I encourage listeners to participate and reflect on their own connections with animals. Whether you're new to meditation or have a long-established practice, these insights offer a meaningful way to explore the oneness of life.

Welcome to episode 49 of the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast. This week's guest is Pam Ahern, Founder of Edgar's Mission in Lancefield, Victoria, Australia. Pam shares her incredible journey from packing lolli's ,as she calls them in a factory, and being a champion equestrian, to providing shelter and direct care for homeless, abused, injured and abandoned farm animals. You will quickly learn that kindness is at the heart of everything Pam does. When a little pig named Edgar Alan came into Pam's life it brought her down a path she never imagined. This is truly an incredible story and one that even involves the actor, James Cromwell, from the hit movie “Babe”. Pam gave up her full-time job, hung up her riding boots, and dedicated her life to the protection of farm animals. Why, you may ask? Well you will need to listen in to hear why Pam built the 153 acre sanctuary that is currently caring for 500 farm animal residents. Every animal that comes through the sanctuary doors is given a special name, treated as an individual, and surrounded by so much love. Many that arrive are in need of immediate and very special care. The one thing that is truly amazing is how some of the animals support their counterparts who are in need of that additional help and support. You will hear about Vet Nurses Ruby the dog and Tabitha the cat. You will fall in love with Calvin Swine, Mr. Invisible, Captain Kirk the Rooster, Smudge, and so many more as you watch them through their videos via FB and Instagram. Visit the Today is the Day YouTube Channel to see pictures of these special animals and Edgar's Mission. Pam is also the proud Australian ambassador for World Animal Day and was a 2014 Victorian Local Hero Finalist in the Australian of the Year Awards. On top of all of that she is also the author of the book, 'The Gift of Kindness – True Stories of Rescue Farm Animals'. She shares an incredible mantra, "If we could live happy and healthy lives without harming others, why wouldn't we?" Listen in to hear Pam's incredible answer to, 'if I knew then, what I know now'. Pam is the only one in all 49 episodes with this answer!Next week my guest is John Belizaire. John is the CEO of Soluna. John is a serial entrepreneur that has taken companies truly to the next level. When he was 28 years old, he sold his first start-up company for $150 million. Pam Ahern is a deadset super hero in my eyes. She's the creator of Edgars Mission here in Victoria, one of my most favourite places on Earth. A lifelong animal lover and activist, Pam always had her heart for the animals. After being a long-time champion equestrian, everything changed when a tiny piglet, the eminent Edgar Alan Pig, trotted into her life in 2003 and led her down a path she'd never imagined. She gave up her full-time paying job, hung up her riding boots, and dedicated her life to the protection of farmed animals. With Edgar firmly at its heart, Pam built the sanctuary, Edgars Mission from the ground up and set in motion outreach programs that would bring farmed animals out of the dark unknown and into public view. Pam is also the proud Australian Ambassador for World Animal Day and was a 2014 Victorian Local Hero Finalist in the Australian of the Year Awards. In the lead up to Be Kind To Animals Week, I have brought Pam on the podcast to talk all things kindness and how we humans with beating hearts and change animals' fate through our choices.Edgar's Mission: https://www.edgarsmission.org.au/Edgar's Mission Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/edgarsmission/Be Kind to Animals Week - Make the pledge: https://bekindtoanimalsweek.org.au/

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, there are over 28,000 threatened species in the world. But this is hardly the first time our planet has faced the prospect of mass extinction. In the beginning of the 20th century, America’s flora and fauna were seriously threatened by urban encroachment and over-hunting. And one animal at the center of this struggle was the bison. So in celebration of World Animal Day, Brian and Nathan explore the history of bison in America. We’ll find out how the bison went from an animal in excess to near extinction and we’ll learn how Madison Grant’s work preserving the bison went hand and hand with his theories on eugenics. Plus, we’ll hear from the Buffalo Representative of the Eastern Shoshone about his efforts to restore the buffalo. Image: Buffalo at water circa 1904 by Denver Kendrick.
