Key Takeaways The Hidden Downsides of Virality Chelsea shares her personal experience of going viral unexpectedly and why it left her feeling more frustrated than excited. Mental Health and the Nervous System Virality can be overwhelming for your nervous system, leading to stress, burnout, and even fear of visibility. Chelsea emphasizes the importance of building resilience and regulating your nervous system to handle the influx of attention and potential negativity that can come with going viral. Preparing Your Business Backend Before attempting to go viral, it's crucial to have clear next steps for new followers, such as freebies, products, or services that align with their needs. EPISODE OVERVIEW In this episode of Live Your Legacy, Chelsea Quint dives into the importance of embracing your quirks and weirdness in business. She shares a personal pep talk inspired by a recent coaching session, focusing on how adopting a mindset of "healthy narcissism" can transform your approach to marketing and content creation. Chelsea encourages listeners to find delight in their own creations, which can lead to more consistent and effective marketing efforts. KEY TAKEAWAYS Embracing Your Weirdness Chelsea starts by discussing the value of loving and embracing your unique quirks as a business owner. She highlights how accepting and even celebrating what makes you different can positively impact your business. The Struggles with Social Media Chelsea acknowledges that many business owners, particularly her clients, struggle with platforms like Instagram, which can feel frustrating and unproductive. She introduces the concept of "healthy narcissism" as a way to shift your mindset and reframe your approach to content creation. What is Healthy Narcissism? This is Chelsea's term for tapping into the childlike joy and obsession with your own creations, much like a child would with a new game or dance routine. She emphasizes that this doesn't mean acting like a textbook narcissist, but rather finding genuine delight in your work and marketing efforts. Creating from a Place of Delight Chelsea advises against creating content from a place of frustration or resentment, as this energy can be felt by your audience and affect engagement. Instead, she encourages listeners to be genuinely excited and delighted by the content they create, making the process enjoyable rather than a chore. Practical Tips for Shifting Your Mindset Reflect on past creations that brought you joy and revisit them to reignite that excitement. Choose marketing tasks that you actually enjoy, and don't force yourself to use platforms or formats that don't resonate with you. Consistency is key, and finding joy in the process will make it easier to show up regularly and refine your messaging over time. Getting High on Your Own Supply Chelsea suggests watching, reading, or listening to your own content with the same enthusiasm and pride that you would have as a child showing off a new creation. By being your own biggest fan, you can maintain the energy and momentum needed to stay consistent in your marketing efforts. Final Thoughts The more you show up and engage with your content, the clearer you'll become on what works and what doesn't. She explores why this type of content tends to perform so well and how you, as a heart-centered entrepreneur, can navigate these realities while staying true to your values. KEY TAKEAWAYS WHY RAGE BAITING WORKS Chelsea breaks down why inflammatory and controversial content tends to go viral on social media platforms. Chelsea shares wisdom from her creative writing days: learn the rules so you can intentionally decide when and how to break them for your own benefit. DECIDING HOW TO PLAY THE GAME Chelsea encourages you to consider whether you're willing to use controversial or rage-bait content to increase visibility. She highlights the importance of making decisions based on your values, integrity, and business goals, rather than simply following trends. PROMPTS FOR REFLECTION Chelsea provides a series of prompts to help you explore what kind of content you could create that might be controversial, but still aligns with your values. Some of these prompts include: What do you wish people in your industry were saying? What do you wish people would stop saying? What misconceptions about your industry do you want to correct? MAKING INFORMED CHOICES After reflecting on the prompts, Chelsea advises making an intentional choice about how you want to proceed with your content strategy. If you're not comfortable with creating controversial content, consider other marketing strategies that align better with your business model and goals. NEXT STEPS If you're ready to get a little spicier with your content, use AI tools or your current audience to generate ideas for posts that might push boundaries in a way that feels right for you. Ep. 17 How to Use AI To Make Business Easier (and whether or not you should)

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 16, 2023 48:24

Let's face it: AI has come in HOT to the creative and small business worlds. Whether you love it or hate it, there's no denying that AI platforms are popping up everywhere, with hundreds of gurus and content creators popping up to tell you how to use AI, or promoting specific platforms you HAVE to start using now. So today I want to help you answer the question of whether you want to use AI tools in your business, and if so help you find the best tools to support you and make a plan on how to use them and integrate AI into your workflow so it makes things easier.  AI's Potential Downsides Can't tell your stories You can change the tone, but it's not going to sound just like you Some algorithms are designed to look for AI based language, meaning you may be ranked more poorly if you use all AI AI controversies - copyright, stealing from other creatives AI's information isn't always correct; in an era of ubiquitous misinformation online, is AI potentially harmful? Even to your brand, your reputation. From a more energetic or metaphysical perspective, does it have the same fingerprint, the same artistic or creative oomph when you didn't make it from scratch? Should you use AI? Some of this is going to come down to personal preference. I've spoken with people who LOVE AI tools and are so excited about them, and others who hate the idea of replacing humans, moving away from creative practices or artistry. Or maybe you're just indifferent. All valid thoughts, and I'm not here to tell you what to think! Just here to present some information, through out some concepts and ultimately you can decide what's best for you and your business moving forward. To decide whether or not you should use AI, ask yourself these questions: How do you feel about using AI platforms? Does it align with your values? Are there moments you regularly find yourself wishing you had a team, had more time or could remove or delegate a project or task in your business? Are these tasks, projects or to dos you always procrastinate, avoid or completely neglect all together? Are there areas of your business where it's hard for you to stay consistent, or where you feel like you're always behind and can't quite **stay on top of everything? If a) you're open to using AI tools and it aligns with your values, and b) you're saying yes to any of the other questions, AI could be incredibly helpful. Ep. 16: How to Build a PR Marketing Strategy: Earned Media, Podcast Guesting and More

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 10, 2023 48:03

Say it with me: Social media is not the end all be all marketing platform. Social media platforms offer a lot of possible benefits, yes, but you do NOT have to be active on social media or have an account to have a successful business. And in this episode, we're talking about one of the best ways you can market and grow your business without ever touching social media. -- Want to explore working together? Email me at chelsea@chelseaquint.com, or send me a message on Instagram.  -- Enter: earned media. We'll breakdown the difference between earned, paid and owned media, unpack the key benefits of earned media and how to get it, then walk you through the four core steps of building your own earned media marketing strategy. Want to read those steps? Keep scrolling. How to Design Your PR Strategy Set the goals for your business. Ideally, your PR and earned media goals are going to line up with your overall business goals. Because yes, wanting to land a big TV segment or an interview on a big podcast are totally valid goals, but if you aren't clear and intentional about how those tactics are going to grow your brand's presence, increase awareness of your message and products, or drive people toward what you sell, your efforts may fall flat. So decide what you want in business, then make sure your strategy lines up. This also requires knowing your offers, audience personas, and those other foundational business basics. Design Your Strategy. Simply put, your strategy is the plan you'll follow to achieve your goals. So with a PR strategy, you start with your goal, then decide what actions you'll take to move closer to that goal. Example: if you want to grow your audience, you'll need to decide which platform(s) you want to drive people toward, identify the key messages and storylines you want people to understand, and define what platform(s) you'll be reaching out to (podcasts, TV, blogs, magazines, speaking events, etc.) - making sure those things are aligned with what your ideal customers want. In short: what will you do (big picture) to achieve your goal, thinking about it in terms of accessing earned media. Define Your Tasks and Tactics. Here we get more specific. Your strategy is the big picture, North Star direction, tasks and tactics are where you start to create your to do list. So if you decide that podcast guesting and securing interviews is a key strategy for growing your audience or promoting a specific product launch, you need to do research on podcasts to pitch and make a list of the contact information and show details to personalize your pitches. You'll also need to block off time to listen to each show - at least a few episodes - to get a sense of the show and where your brand can fit and be truly valuable and unique. You'll need to define a few story angles that offer variety but still connect to your key goals, and really refine the message so it's concise and potent when you're sending a pitch. Create Your Timeline. I always have clients start by assessing their current capacity. How much do you have going on in other areas of your business outside of the PR marketing space? How about the rest of your life? How about travel, mental and physical health, kids, family, etc.? So first explore your capacity, then identify how much time and energy you have to commit to your PR strategy. Maybe break that down into how much time you can devote to your tasks each week or month, then start to slot those into your weeks. In this episode of the podcast, we're looking at the elusive blue check, a symbol used on social media platforms to indicate that a page, account or handle has been verified. We're exploring the clout economy and the idea that followers, fame and the blue check are all currencies, and sharing insights into the new subscription-based verification process and what it used to take to be verified. They also discuss the pros and cons of subscribing to get verified, as well as a related poll they posted on their stories. Click here to join the Deep Remote retreat. So what you likely learned in school is that you're supposed to follow these certain rules, meet these certain guidelines, and as long as you meet those guidelines, get the good enough grade, you'll move forward. But in business, a lot of what you're trying to do is break through a lot of noise and communicate what's different about you. you're not trying to fit in or mold yourself to a certain template, you're trying to stand out. The rules are so different than where they were in school. And given how many people are out there making content, making TikToks, making reels on Instagram, emails everything. And yes, there's room for all of us, and it's silly not to acnkowledge there's competition for attention. You have to compete for other people's attention, which means that the more prolific and deep and impactful and creative and artistic.your work is the more your business is going to thrive. But as long as you are creating offers or content or doing any of your business tasks in a way that is reactive, you're doing the equivalent of waiting until the night before to write your paper. You're keeping yourself in the shallow end of your gifts, which probably feels safer, might actually be safer, but you are also drastically limiting how successful and creative and important you and your work get to be. So the TLDR is, there's really incredible work you're here to do, and by avoiding creating deep work space for yourself, you are staying in the shallow end of your skillsets and your gifts, which means you're depriving you of success and impact in your depriving us of your art. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/chelseaquint/message

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 12, 2022 22:11

In the early days of my business, I started following anyone I could find who would tell me they had answers to the questions I was struggling with. How to grow an audience, how to create content that got more than crickets, how to get clients, how to make more money, how to take myself and my business seriously. And quickly, thanks to Instagram's algorithm and retargeted ads, I found a myriad of people whose lives looked amazing, and who promised so many answers and results through their courses, programs and communities. But then something quite sticky happened... not only did this women seem to have the answers I wanted, but they also seemed very, very cool. At the same time, I was feeling more isolated than ever before. I was working from home, didn't have the same connection to coworkers, and spending a lot less time around other humans. I was lonely, my friends and family didn't really understand or even believe in what I was trying to build, and the need for connection was getting bigger and bigger. Slowly but surely, I started trying to meet my need for community through the online business world. It was no longer just my hope for financial security and freedom, now it was my hope for community, connection, belonging. And inside of that, my inner adolescent came out, and all her desperation to be cool came right to the forefront of my decision making. I saw these women whose Instagram's showed that they had it all: luxury, freedom, beauty, popularity. Meaningful work, and people paying attention to them. Confidence in their message. Words and posts and programs that seemed to make a difference - at least according to the glowing testimonials on their sales pages. And they were cool, celebrated, popular. I wanted it, and for the price of an $1,111 course or $444 session, it felt like it was for sale. So many of us start businesses with one intention, but subconsciously start wanting our businesses to fill other needs. The need for community, creative expression and the validation of being seen as ourselves. It's a lot of pressure to put on our businesses, and slips us sneakily into a web of capitalist problems, where the next solution to our need is only one BUY NOW button away. This episode touches on my experience of trying to buy my way to belonging, and discovering the ways that my business was never really meant to meet some of my needs. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/chelseaquint/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/chelseaquint/support

Hi friend - I'm back. Back from months of really feeling like I couldn't. Couldn't be in the industry I've spent years breaking into. Couldn't post on Instagram. Couldn't tell the truth about what was going on, but couldn't lie behind filters or gaslighting myself into believing it was all okay anymore. But here's the thing about my experience of depression: I don't know when I'll be back in the hole. I don't know what will prompt it, or where I'll be, or how long it will last. I don't know how well I'll be able to function, or if I'll be able to keep “showing up” online. I don't know if I'll manage to convince myself to get out of bed, record the podcast, send the email, do the dishes, make the bed. It's scary not knowing. It's scary running a business that depends on me when I live alongside my struggles with anxiety, depression, PTSD. And the only true antidote I've found is to be gentle. Gentle with starting again. Like easing into water when you're not quite sure how cold it will be. First a toe. Then a foot. Two feet. Ankles. Up to the knees. Slow but steady. Because slow may not be as sexy as fast, but it is so much more sustainable. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/chelseaquint/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/chelseaquint/support

Welcome, friends, to the first of an ongoing series I’m making for us all about the many ways to build a business. Over the years, I’ve had client after client get frustrated, feeling like they have to create business a certain way. Like they have to change who they are, how they work, what they value in order to succeed. So, I want to interview folks and take a peek underneath the hood of their businesses, to learn how things work, what they did to make it work, and who they are behind the scenes in and out of their business. We start with a woman I deeply admire, whose business I’ve been following and loving for years. Melody Godfred is the founder of Fred and Far, a self-love movement that builds community, connection and celebration amongst women. Fred and Far is the home of the self love pinky ring - a ring inspired by the idea of the engagement ring as a promise to someone else, but this time flipped into a promise to yourself. In this episode, Melody talks about… How she built a physical product based business from something she needed herself The good, the bad and the ugly of building a business How to prepare for your success The toxicity of connecting your worth to what you charge in business Pricing your offerings and products And so much more. If you watch my stories on Instagram, you’ve likely seen my citrine self love pinky ring a time or two. Melody is also an author, and has written two books of poetry as part of her movement, and as I discovered in this episode she’s also a fiction writer. Grab any (or all) of her books below. Self Love Poetry: For Thinkers and Feelers The ABCs of Self Love The Agency At the end of our conversation, Melody shared a note about choosing between staying safe, comfortable, and going after what it is you really want. I’ve copied those questions below, and invite you to reflect on them and, if you feel so inclined, share what comes through and tag Fred and Far on social media. MG: “What is my big picture dream? What is that fantasy? What is it that I want for myself more than anything? And then follow that with, and what am I willing to give up today to get there? Because the thing you have to give up might be very safe. It might be very familiar and comfortable, and you may not know what stands on the other side of letting that thing go, but sometimes sacrificing is necessary and that's what I'm trying to get comfortable with. It's like, how can I sacrifice the known for a greater unknown?” Now without further ado, settle in and enjoy the show. Click here for a full transcript of the show.
