Photography seems risky and I think it takes a special kind of talent to run a successful photography business. Not only do you have to be talented, you also need to be a boss and a networking superstar. Ksenia Pro, @kseniaprophoto, my guest on today's episode of the Accented World podcast, embodies all of these qualities and so much more! I loved chatting with Ksenia because her story and childhood reminded me so much of my life in Poland. We both grew up in small towns in Eastern Europe, which shaped us culturally and socially in a very unique way, not necessarily preparing us for the life in the US. Luckily we both adapted pretty quickly and were able to use our background to our advantage. On the show today, Ksenia shares how can you invest time in yourself and grow while waiting for legal status, why she started a business instead of getting a job, her advice for future photographers, and how you can grow your confidence while speaking English. Today's episode happens to fall on my birthday :). I am starting my 34th year around the sun and am sharing my 4 biggest struggles as an entrepreneur. This year I've spent a lot of time reflecting and slowing down, mostly because of being pregnant with my first baby. I feel very blessed to have had this season in my life and time to reevaluate my priorities moving forward. I also reflected on my entrepreneurial career and came up with a list of my 4 biggest struggles as an entrepreneur. I'm still fairly new to the game and struggle in some areas more than others. I wanted to share these, because I know I am not alone. Entrepreneurship is hard and can feel very lonely. Especially in the era of social media where a lot of what people post is beautifully curated to make it appear as almost perfect. Well, I know everyone struggles and I think sharing these struggles is an important part of helping other business owners not to feel like a failure or feel alone. I love to geek out on all things speech and voice-related given my background as a speech pathologist. So when Cynthia Zhai, who is a voice coach and a professional speaker reached out to come on the show, I was very excited! Voice education is very important, especially when it comes to using it to be more impactful and confident. As entrepreneurs, we are constantly communicating with our audiences. Whether it's through marketing, social media posts, going live or connecting on Zoom, we are always sharing messages with our audience. Using the right tone of voice can also convey messaging and it's important to use it with confidence in order to engage our audience. As a TEDx speaker herself, Cynthia came on the show and shared her own journey of how she became a more assertive and confident speaker, where a good voice comes from, the relationship of voice and breathing, the fastest way to engage your audience, and much more. Cynthia has helped professionals from 46 countries across 6 continents to speak with a powerful voice. She has been a professional speaker and coach for the past 18 years and her engagement spans 5 continents in 18 countries. Naturally, she was the perfect guest for the Accented World Podcast. As I am now in my 34th week of pregnancy (craziness!), I've been reflecting on some of the biggest and most surprising lessons I've learned thus far. Everyone's pregnancy journey is different and unique so these have been my experiences. I wanted to share them to see if anyone else has gone through something similar, or perhaps to help someone else reflect on their own pregnancy journey. It's also fun to share these with you, even if you're not a mom-to-be or a mom already, because some of these thoughts may surprise you or teach you something new. I was completely clueless going into this pregnancy, and have treated every moment and lesson as a gift, expanding my mind, heart, and soul. As I am nearing the resolution aka the birth, the big event, I am getting nervous, but nonetheless excited to meet my boy and step into the mom's shoes, which I am ecstatic to fill. What lessons have you learned in your pregnancy? What are your thoughts on what I have learned so far? Financial education is a hot topic right now and for a good reason. More and more women and entrepreneurs are starting to get their financial education in order to not only build wealth but to also smartly manage their assets. It's a shame that money management is not taught in most schools because it's such a crucial skill in our lives. The good thing is though, that more and more people, such as my guest on today's show, Mr. Rocky Lalvani, are providing financial education and advice to business owners. After all, if your business is profitable but you do not know how to manage these profits, you will most likely make unwise decisions that will affect your life and business. Rocky came on the show to discuss the principles of compounding, how to live a rich life on a poverty budget, the negative stigma, and beliefs around money, how to unblock your negative beliefs, how to start your financial education, and how to make your business profitable. I learned so much from this conversation and I hope you will as well! Let me know in the comments if you have anything to add or ask any questions. Today's episode is super timely for me and I didn't even plan it this way :). I wish I had, but I am not that savvy. Of course, I am referring to my awesome conversation with Viktoriya Yurkovetskiy, a lactation consultant and founder of Corporate Breastfeeding Support. As a future first-time mom, full-time worker, and entrepreneur, I found Viktoriya's advice and story so relevant. Life changes when you become a mama and start to breastfeed. Not only is the physical aspect of it often difficult, also the emotional and social aspect makes it sometimes impossible to do without hurdles. It's not easy breastfeeding in public and pumping locations are not always readily available. On today's show, Viktoriya provided some great tips on how to support struggling breastfeeding mamas, she discusses how to plan for when you go back to work, she tells her story on how she started her company and dives into her struggles as an immigrant and how she got over the fear for being judged for her accent to scale her business. Before I met Sandra during the podcast recording, I had a feeling that we shared a lot of similar beliefs and ambitions. Once we got to talking, I knew she was a kindred spirit. Aside from sharing the dreams of being on stage with the likes of Marie Forleo and Elizabeth Gilbert, Sandra is one manifesting badass. I find that truly inspiring, as I myself believe in the power of manifesting the life of your dreams. As a successful 6 figure entrepreneur who has run her business right from her laptop in over 15 countries, Sandra knows a thing or two about time and location freedom, my 2 biggest life goals. On today's show, Sandra talks about manifestation and what it actually means, the formula to manifest what you want, how to manifest your dream life, the importance of clear and impactful communication, she shares clear and confident communication tips and so much more. I am a true believer that each one of us needs to do some kind of inner work in order to reprogram our negative self-beliefs and start to love ourselves for who we are. It takes patience and a lot of hard work, but the results of that transformation are absolutely worth it. When it comes to speaking authentically and finding your voice as an entrepreneur, inner work will also need to be done. If we are held back by negative beliefs about ourselves and feel less than deserving of happiness or success, how can we truly speak from the heart and share our truth? It would be nearly impossible to do that. This is why in today's episode of the Accented World Podcast, I am sharing my 5 tips on how to find your voice, whether you're a native or a non-native speaker of English. In today's episode, I discuss the importance of not comparing ourselves with other people, being patient, and the importance of not taking ourselves too seriously. It was a great reminder for me, and I hope this episode will also help you to find your true voice. Tune into episode 60 to learn more. Have you ever wondered about the difference between women and men when it comes to public speaking? Besides the fact that public speaking is very difficult and stressful for many, it is even more difficult for women. My guest on today's show, Mrs. Jane Paterson is a professional public speaking coach who believes that when women develop their overall speaking skills, they are empowered to speak up, grow their careers, bring about change, and inspire others. She shares that women are more afraid to speak up than men, that men would interrupt a female speaker 10 times more than they would ever interrupt a male speaker, and the difference between the speaking styles of men and women. This conversation was very inspiring to me because as a woman in podcasting and a speech-language pathologist I get to witness these dynamics quite often. It is important to spread awareness about this, to empower more women to speak up and take back the mic. Tune in to my conversation with Jane to learn more. I love a good reminiscing session, and my conversation with Jennifer Dopazo was that and so much more. We both share a love for Madrid, and I could have spent hours talking to her about it. But what I loved the most about our chat was Jennifer's story of perseverance, how she launched a successful career/ business during the recession, and how when she let go of the shoulds and could haves, her business boomed. Jennifer is an award-winning graphic designer specializing in Brand Identity, Interaction Design, and UX/UI Design. Being multilingual comes with great perks, but it can also make you feel less than. I've always struggled with speaking multiple languages because I didn't feel like I fit in anywhere. After some time in the US, I no longer spoke perfect Polish, and I never learned to speak perfect English. Thankfully, with life experience and working on my insecurities I realized, what a blessing it is to be multilingual. This is why I recorded today's episode of the Accented World Podcast, where I discussed the five benefits of being a multilingual entrepreneur. On the show, I discussed why being multilingual improves your communication skills, which is key in being a good entrepreneur, how multilingualism and multiculturalism can help you create a more inclusive business, the neurological benefits of speaking more than one language, how being multilingual help you develop great management skills and the unlimited collaborative and networking opportunities that come along with being multilingual. Chesline Pierre Paul or Ches for short, is a digital media & language activist, digital activist-startupreneur, co-founder of the Decolonial Perspectives & Practices Hub, independent scholar & global thought leader on anti-coloniality. She is fluent in 5 languages & taught herself her own native Indigenous language. I had an incredibly powerful conversation with Ches about healing inter-generational trauma, living outside of your ego, using your business as a tool for social justice, language-based liberation, and that period between code-switching or switching from one language to the next. I'm referring to the time that you all of a sudden are very aware of speaking a different language and needing a bit of extra time to gather your thoughts and say what's on your mind. That is called code-switching and it's one of the struggles many multilingual speakers deal with every day. Tune into the show to hear my chat with Ches! Making a good first impression on your potential clients is very important. It's not always easy to do as we don't always click with people right away but to do that in a language that's not your native tongue, adds on an extra layer of complexity. We need to not only think about the correct words to use but also keep in mind the social and cultural rules in play. This is why in today's episode, I am talking about business small talk. Small talk is an easy-going, light, and informal conversation. It's usually used when talking to someone you don't know very well (i.e., a new client, an acquaintance) while networking or during social events online or in person. When onboarding a new client or speaking with a prospective customer, it's important to understand the rules of small talk in American English. It's a key business skill. On today's show I discuss what's the difference between regular small talk and business small talk, the 8 tips you need to know to rock small talk with about anyone, I give you a list of potential topics to discuss and topics to avoid and the red flags to look out for when engaging in small talk with your clients or when networking. I also created a guide to make it easy for you to remember all this! My podcast has become one of my favorite projects I've ever done. I've met some incredible people and networked with entrepreneurs from all over the world. It's been a wild ride, one that I intend to continue for some time. With my podcast recording experience, I've gone through a total transformation. I am no longer afraid to share my message and speak up. It's something I struggled with for the majority of my adult life. I was usually the person to shy away from a stimulating conversation, afraid of other people's judgment. Well, that's no longer the case and I am so grateful for that. Because of my newfound courage to speak to anyone and any audience, I decided to start recording consistent solo episodes of my podcast. This project has been a long time coming and it's finally coming to fruition today! My first true solo episode is here!! Woohoo. On the show today I talk about the 10 Simple Steps You Can Take to Show Up on Camera with Confidence. As entrepreneurs, we have to constantly show up on camera. It's not easy, especially when you're just getting started or if English is not your first language. In the episode, I share 10 steps you can take to make going on camera seamless. We talk about preparing in advance, getting a buddy, practicing on Clubhouse, picking out the right outfit, being yourself, and much more! Ana writes for German, Austrian and Croatian newspapers and magazines and is finishing a Ph.D. in Sociology about singles and capitalism. In 2020, Ana launched her podcast “Thank You, Mama” in which she interviews women from all over the world about the most valuable lessons they learned from their mothers. In the same year, her podcast won the Hermes Creative Award and the dotCOMM Award. Do you believe in magic? I think the answer to this question will depend based on how you look at it. Are we talking about the magic of kindness, the magic of Harry Potter, or the magic of master magicians? Well, today we're talking about the latter, but I do love me some Harry Potter and could talk about it all day every day. My guest on the show is Dan Chan, who the Business Insider dubbed the “Billionaire's Magician” as he performs at events so exclusive he regularly asked to sign non-disclosure agreements for his high profile clients around the world. Dan recently pivoted his business to Zoom, where he hosts virtual magic shows. He often performs with his son, James, who at the mere age of 5 years old was juggling 3 balls, at age 8 three flaming torches & by age 10 he was picking pockets. James' credits include appearing on ABC7 News, national television with Tiffany Haddish, and Access Daily with Penn & Teller.Daniel is here today to talk about niching down in business, how Zoom improved his business, the importance of connections, what does a magic show looks like, reverse engineering success, and creating smart goals. Violence is not an easy topic to discuss. Domestic, workplace, and school violence are on the rise, especially now during the pandemic, where many people are living on the edge. Here are some statistics I gathered from NCADV. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States.1 in 15 children are exposed to intimate partner violence each year, and 90% of these children are eyewitnesses to this violence. On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide. These statistics are staggering, yet, many women and men are deeply ashamed about being in an abusive relationship or don't know there are resources they can use to help them get out. My guest on today's show, Sabrina Osso is the founder and CEO of OSSO SAFE…Feel safe where you live, work, and play. She is a TEDx Speaker, Domestic Violence Speaker, Real Estate Agent, and Consultant on promoting safety and preventing violence in the workplace, schools, and in places of residence. Sabrina's personal and professional experience with the subject allows her to bring a unique and holistic approach for employers, landlords, tenants, students, and teachers. She believes that by combining education and technology, we can save lives and bottom lines. On today's show, we discuss healing from trauma, violence statistics, warning signs of an abusive relationship, how to prevent domestic violence, how to end an abusive relationship, the importance of educating children, and how to practice not being abusive. I am thrilled to have Sabrina on the show today. As a victim of physical and emotional violence myself, I know how hard it is to even admit something like this happened or is happening to you. Know that you're not alone and that once you open up about your experiences, it is very freeing and healing. Go to the session notes of today's episode for resources for violence victims. Now let's meet Sabrina. “Pornography is a huge driver of violence. When I met my guest on today's show Shawn, I have to be honest, I was having a bad few days. I wasn't sure how this podcast was going to go, because I just wasn't feeling like myself. I was pretty nervous logging on, and didn't know what to expect. The minute I connected with Shawn all of my worries evaporated into the thin air. He is ranked as #1 motivational author and international keynote speaker and I got to experience his talents and gifts first hand. Shawn is special and got me out of my head within minutes of us talking. It was an incredible conversation. Shawn has been an entrepreneur since the age of 10. He started off selling worms to fishermen. He has come a long way since then, as he is a 7-time author and the creator of "Extra Mile Day"...a day declared by 507 cities on 11/1/2020 recognizing extra mile volunteer heroes in local communities. Shawn walks the talk. He's built a million dollar company, pedaled a bike 4,000 miles across the U.S. (twice), run a 100-mile race, and created adventures in 45+ countries including having walked across seven countries since 2014. On today's show, we discuss how Shawn became a motivational speaker, the power of encouraging others, the battery charger of the human spirit, the gift of self-awareness, the repercussion of being out of balance, the 3 questions you must ask yourself every morning, some motivational words for non-native speakers, The Extra Mile Day and Shawn's dream box. Instagram can be a source of happiness, friendship, networking but also if we're not careful frustration and pain. Those accounts which are perfectly orchestrated to look like someone's life is only full of success and happy moments are frankly not real. It is so easy to fall prey to those accounts, start to compare ourselves, and bring down our self-worth. I'm very wary of those kinds of accounts and brands which set these impossible standards. My guest on today's show, Ms. Connie Chi, is an American entrepreneur, publicist, expert in media communications, and founder of The Chi Group, award-winning public relations and brand management agency working with inspirational talents and personalities. She speaks globally about public relations, brand management, entrepreneurship, and is known for her TEDx Talk titled, “Lonely AF: Lonely About Failure.” Chi has written 2 books titled, Branding Without A Brand, teaching you how to take your brand from zero to hero and “Overachieving AF: Overachieving Failure and The Lessons It Teaches.” Connie has a very fresh perspective on how to use Instagram to help change the world rather than create more FOMO and the feeling of loneliness. On today's show, Connie also discusses failure, how it can be lonely but also our best teacher in life, how to recover from failure, the courage to dream big, how to reverse engineer Instagram, how to make it work for you, how to find press opportunities on Instagram, and the e-mail formula that has been 98% successful in creating collaboration and sponsorship opportunities with brands, no matter your following count. I bet if you consider yourself a global citizen like myself you've used or at least heard of What's App. So if you've moved to another country, have traveled internationally or had friends abroad, WhatsApp has become one of the most popular communication apps in the world. It's even slowly making its way to the US. Have you ever thought about using WhatsApp for networking with people worldwide? I haven't until I met my guest on today's show, Mr. Marc Jarrett. Marc runs 150+ WhatsApp groups covering all kinds of industries and business subjects. He has groups for powerful women, groups for podcasters, global networking groups, and even a group for avocado lovers. I'm personally part of that one, as I sure love me some avocado. Marc is on a mission to help US business people use WhatsApp to help them win more business globally. That's exactly what we talked about on today's show. Marc is a huge proponent of global networking and niche networking and he has years of experience on this topic. After beginning his career in Banking and Futures Trading, he spent most of his career in the telecoms industry and was first-to-market with cellphone personalization products which went on to become a multi-million-dollar industry. In 2009, he founded a boutique consultancy firm that helps his clients expand internationally. He is also VP Europe with Gottesman Company, America's largest network of International M&A Brokers. Over the years. Marc has amassed an enormous network and he has been extolling the virtues of virtual networking long before COVID19 came along. On today's show, we also discuss LinkedIn and how to use it to build connections and he shares advice for people wanting to build a global network. Tune in now to hear Lena's chat with Marc. You may or may not know this, but I am totally obsessed with my dog Luna. She's my 3.5-year-old rescue and when I picked her up from the shelter, I immediately knew that the dry food or canned food diet that I was recommended she eat, was not going to make the cut for me. After all, I eat mostly plant-based food and I know that nutrition is one of the most important aspects of our health. Doing the math I knew, that Luna, as a living organism, being a dog and having 99% wolf DNA would not thrive eating factory-produced processed food. It was basic, natural math for me. I just couldn't feed her that. So the diet we decided to feed her is home-cooked meals. We buy her organic meat and cook it with veggies, and add vitamins and minerals to help her thrive. Although she seems to love her diet, in the back of my mind I always knew, that I would eventually switch her to a raw food diet, having done my research and knowing that it's the healthiest option for her. But the learning curve is steep and something about the raw food diet always intimidated me. I had a lot of questions about it. This is why I was so thrilled to meet my guest on today's show, Micol Romano. Micol is an entrepreneur who specializes in helping dog and cat owners transition their animals to a natural, raw diet and integrate holistic practices in their pet's health. She's a trained osteopath and homeopath and went to a veterinary school specializing in animal nutrition. She eventually decided to suspend her studies for different opportunities in life. Her greatest moments are those spent with her animals in the wild outdoors. Micol also has a very rich immigrant background, having spent her childhood in Italy speaking a mix of Italian and German, moving to the US and later to Germany. On today's show, Micol discussed the difficulties with the transition period when speaking different languages, looking at nature for best practices, the problem with dry and wet food diet for dogs, how to start your pet on a raw food diet, how to balance a raw food diet, the best thing for cancer prevention in dogs, how to vary the raw food diet and how to batch prepare your dogs food. When I first moved to the United States, I was desperate to find my community, to find a group of friends who would accept me for who I was and who I could spend time with. That's something that a lot of immigrants struggle with, moving to a brand new country and leaving behind their family and friends. My guest on today's show knows all about building communities of like-minded people. Julia Minkowski is a Fraud and Risk Management expert, innovator, startup advisor, community organizer, mentor, and speaker. That is a lot of hats that she wears, but trust me she's amazing at wearing every single one of them. Julia is the co-founder of the Russian Speaking Women in Tech Silicon Valley community that accounts for nearly 3,200 talented local women in technology. If you think about it her group is very specific, it's for women, who speak Russian and work in tech. But thanks to her incredible community-building skills, she grew it to a whopping 3200 members. Now that's impressive. Not only is she an incredibly inspiring woman when it comes to her business achievements, she also moved alone to Israel at the age of 17 and rode 500 miles by bike in Thailand, Laos, and Canada. I mean, how brave is that? On today's show, Julia spoke about building communities and shared advice on how to build a community of like-minded individuals, how to live according to your cycle, the importance of sleep, and the lean startup methodology. Make sure to tune in to hear her incredible story! Hey, I wanted to remind you to subscribe to our show, leave us a review, preferably a 5 star and let me know how are you liking this show. Olga Prepodobnaya, a Russian ex-pat who teaches in Italy, was the perfect person to discuss learning English with. Thanks to her extensive experience, wonderful personality and willingness to discuss the pros and the cons of learning new languages, our chat was filled with wisdom nuggets for anyone interested in this topic. Her idea of teaching is based on the principle of “eclecticism”: all the students are different in objectives, learning styles, age, and energy levels, and it is the teacher's aim to define their needs and expose their language potential making use of various techniques and approaches. I couldn't agree with her more. I wanted to add that Olga is not only an English and Russian speaker, she also taught herself Polish, Italian, and Japanese. I mean, she's totally brilliant. On today's show we discuss how to learn languages by yourself, the pros and cons of living in new countries, the importance of imitation and language immersion, how Olga modified her accent by listening to Whitney Houston and Aerosmith when she was 5 years old, and advice for adults learning English. Starting a clothing brand is not an easy task to handle. There is so much detail, planning, production, and honestly hard work that goes into creating a successful brand. My guest on today's show, Ms. Tashika Nickle, the founder, and CEO of Zodi-Hacks Apparel, created her brand in New York City in March of 2020, right at the beginning of the quarantine. It is a 100% black-owned and woman-owned company. Tashika is an avid astrology lover and that's what propelled her idea forward. She became inspired to start her own brand after being frustrated over not being able to find anything stylish enough to represent her zodiac sign, the Taurus (which by the way she's such Taurus, and I couldn't love her more for it) Nothing she found spoke to her natural knack for all things chic and stylish. Disappointed and fueled with the creative juices that she didn't even know she possessed at the time, she forged ahead, and that's how Zodi-Hacks Apparel was born. Tashika had sharp business instincts since she was a teenager and she graduated in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in business management from Adelphi University. Her brand specializes in comfortable streetwear with a sleek zodiac flair. It is a safe haven for zodiac enthusiasts. The brand celebrates your desire to Embrace the real you! On today's show, Tashika discusses how her business degree prepared her to run a successful business, the evolution of her clothing brand, the importance of finding your niche in business, how to keep costumers buying from your business, advice for someone wanting to start a clothing business and how zodiac signs influence our lives. I can't wait for you to meet Tashika, by the way we used to waitress together at T.G.I. Friday's what feels like a lifetime ago, don't worry we totally spill the beans on that experience on the show. So here is my dear friend and CEO boss, Ms. Tashika Nickle. Have you heard of playfulness as a form of therapy and empowerment? Well, that's exactly what our episode is about today. Saras Feijoo helps you bring your creative side forward and provides you with unique ways to see life from a more artistic perspective. She's an internationally acclaimed productivity strategist and coach, performance curator, and multidisciplinary performance artist. Saras has traveled the world performing and bringing playfulness to people's lives. She teaches you how to find your inner creative voice, and connect with your inner artist to bring out the creative you. This year, she organized a playfulness festival called the PlayfulFest, a 3-day event, which offered people tools on how to continue bringing the energy of playfulness into your daily life, your work, and/or business. I had a blast talking with her today, and learning about ways to bring more playfulness into our lives. This year has been very hard for most of us. It's been a year of pivoting, reinventing, and loss. I think we can all use a little bit of playfulness in our lives, no matter what the struggles may be. Saras is the person to teach you how to do it. On the show, we dive into how to bring more joy into people's lives, the toolkit for playfulness, how to get through your mental blocks, playfulness as a form of meditation, and Saras's 3 tips on how to add more fun into your everyday routine. "I tell people, I am not here to fix you and I can't fix you because I don't believe that you are broken. What I can do is to help you see what you're not seeing, while feeling broken. That's what we need to focus on, the present moment. Not the past, not the future, right here, right now. "- Michelle Kuei It's not every day that a guests' story is so inspiring it brings you to tears. Well, that's exactly what happened when I spoke to Michelle Kuei, my guest on today's show. Michelle is a certified confidence & leadership coach who helps negative self-talkers believe in their talents to reach their full potential in personal and professional life. She was only 11-years-old, living in rural Taiwan when a car running a red light completely altered her life's trajectory. Her road to recovery was extremely long and painful and she needed to learn how to live with a disability. Although very difficult, her new reality didn't stop her from pursuing unbelievable and seemingly impossible goals such as hiking Machu Picchu. Michelle's speaking career began in 2018, soon after she founded her own coaching company. She is the author of the new memoir, Perfectly Normal, an immigrant's story of making it in America. Michelle lives in Los Angeles with a short-haired brown tabby cat named Buster. If you're looking for her, the odds are good you'll find her at the gym. In today's episode, Michelle shares how to gain clarity when you feel stuck, the law of being, how to use bravery to discover a way of living true to yourself, living a life with a disability, overcoming your fears, and why only you know what's best for you. Marketing and being authentic are key if you want to have a successful business. My guest on today's show, James Lam, specializes in these key aspects of business. I have personally already learned so much from him when it comes to both. He just has a way with words and is one of the best entrepreneurial teachers and mentors I have had the pleasure of working with. He himself went from a non-believing, over-worked, and money-losing business owner to a successful entrepreneur with a healthy lifestyle and mindset. With 15+ years of marketing experience, James has built 3 successful companies taking them from startups to thriving successes. He's also the host of the 3 Steps to Thrive podcast, where he showcases successful and interesting entrepreneurs. Do you remember the day when you moved to a new place? How about moved to a new country? I bet it wasn't easy to settle down, figure out the new culture, make new friends, or find a job. That happens to a lot of immigrants moving abroad, especially women. It can be a very lonely journey, leaving behind the place you used to call home. Most immigrants have to restart their lives when they do. It's very hard, especially if they don't speak the language. My guest today, Nyna Caputi, also had a difficult time finding her community when she first moved to the US from India. It was so hard for her in fact, that she started her business the Expat woman, hoping to create a community. She ended up creating a social enterprise that helps to inspire, connect, and empower immigrant and native-born women across the globe through online and offline events, networking opportunities, and valuable resources and content. With over 12,000 members, they have hosted over 250 workshops, conferences, hackathons, webinars, career fairs, and networking events. On top of that, Nyna is a filmmaker, blogger, advocate, and speaker on gender violence, startups, leadership, cross-cultural skills, diversity, and expat life. She is also the winner of the ‘Global Influencer 2019' award from Women Empowerment Awards North America. In today's episode, Nyna shares about her struggles finding a community when she moved to the United States, what inspired her to find the Expat Woman, how she scaled her business to make 6 figures, her advice for new entrepreneurs, and her 3 “P” mantra. Tune in now to hear her empowering story. Please rate and review our podcast so that it can be reached by more people like you.
