HR 2885, the Legal Worforce Act bill would mandate all US workers submit SSN#s and record identity information in a web-based cloud system administered by USCIS (DHS).    Orly Taitz road tested E-Verify with what is believed to be President Obama's SSN#. Dr. Taitz claims that President Obama has presented fraudulent identity documents and demands accountability from the White House.   She presents the case that E-Verify can deidentify the United States President if his SSN# is fraudulent.   We ask her about the integrity of the E-Verify technology and her end goal in deidentifying the US President.  We follow Orly's statements with our own brand of analysis of The Legal Workforce Act. Adrian Wyllie, the Chair for the Libertarian Party of Florida, has become a burr in the side of the Pinellas County criminal justice system. His offense? LAS VEGAS- The (r)evolution of privacy in technology was tweeted tonight at the Develop 4 Privacy awards at the DEFCON 19 hacker conference in Las Vegas. 3rd Place went to Obscuracam (Guardian Project), 2nd place to tiqr (https://tiqr.org/), an open source authenticator, and the 1st prize award to Gibberbot (Guardian Project). The winning applications were developed using the principles of Privacy by Design. One of the winning developers, Harlo Holmes, Guardian Project's mobile app developer for the Android platform, spoke with us about Obscuracam, Gibberbot and her DEFCON experience. Holmes, a Facebook early adopter, talks about what the winning apps do to protect privacy, social networks and the societal goals at the Guardian Project. Privacy by Design policies and best practices are fast becoming the most resilient way to reinforce privacy values for technologies in the marketplace. "The Develop for Privacy challenge is a great way to raise awareness for principles of privacy by design at a developer and code level. Far too many developers think about putting their user in control of their data after the fact. By encouraging privacy from the start, we're raising awareness of how to design for privacy," said Andrew Lewman of the Tor Project. Contestants' apps were judged based on effectiveness, the quality of user documentation, source code, originality, portability, and performance. The DEFCON event judges were veteran privacy scholars and analysts who awarded priority to the protection of daily online chats & instant messaging and the first place win to Gibberbot. “This app demonstrates that advances in consumer technology don’t need to come at the expense of privacy, said Nicole Ozer, with event sponsor, ACLU of Northern California and the Demand Your dotRights campaign. “We’re hopeful that companies will start to bake in better privacy protections so that users don’t have to choose between using smartphones and keeping control of their private information.” Winning developers won't walk away with a lot of prizes, but their technologies will be among the most recognised and supported examples of Privacy by Design in the industry. We deserve better.  The armed service members in this country deserve better.  However- the sad truth is that Pvt. Bradley Manning is experiencing the US institution of torture and rendition consistent with being classified as a "terrorist".  This is what the United States military has been reduced to: extorting us towards crushing debt to pay for torture, rape and incarceration of our own citizens when THEY TELL THE TRUTH.   Be reminded, we may demand a different standard than, "shut up, lay down and take it without making any noise". Daniel Ellsberg, a pioneer in the art of the leak led to a revolution in public awareness.  This was before news organizations were infiltrated by retired military plants. WIRED's sponsored contest had escalating tiers of money for the digital bounty hunter who could track down and catch Ratliff in his remote locations. Evan was in and out of disguises for the duration of his extended assignment. He toured with a band, became a granola hippie and even adopted a disguise as balding stereotype in a suit to evade getting "caught" for prize money. He shares a very unique story of how he did his best to evade being actively identified by those who tracked him down with arcane and creative digital clues. In his film ONE MAINFRAME TO RULE THEM ALL he exposes the powers and dark history behind Verichip Corp., the first company to move forward with an internal RFID capable system. The film is based on exposing IBM's role as the key fiscal sustainer for Verichip Corp.

We spoke with Bob Dwyer, a district coordinator and citizen advocate for the Liberty Preservation Association of Massachussetts (Mass LPA) to update us on the status of S.2028. The bill is currently still in the Ways and Means committee. MASS LPA is composed of grassroots citizen advocates who are confronting their local lawmakers about the Constitutionality of S.2028. We asked him about his organization's recent actions and the effort to stop Massachussetts from becoming a precedent setting state for both pandemic tracking and mandatory administration of a flu vaccine. Dwyers group organized to confront State legislators on issues of Constitutionality. They interpret S.2028 to be a mandatory or coercive vaccination law for their state.

Radio Frequency ID chip technologies are "too vulnerable in too many ways," says Chris Paget, ethical hacker and partner for H4RDW4RE, a new company creating privacy and security solutions to existing RFID problems in the marketplace. The public has been made aware of RFID or Radio Frequency ID technologies commissioned for national identity documents: passports, Enhanced Drivers Licenses, TWIC cards, Speed Passes and even Tribal Identity Cards. Unfortunately, RFID as a government sanctioned technology earned a big brother reputation from its ability to track a persons current location, storing and conveying private information from 20 - 30 feet away. Chris Paget, a technology penetration consultant, found the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative compliant RFIDs especially troublesome. He began doing live demonstrations exposing identity security flaws RFIDs had on average cardholders. Then Chris Paget and his business partner Tim Mullen formed H4RDW4RE.com. They have made it their business to demonstrate exactly how insecure Western Hemisphere compliant RFID chips can be for people to possess in identity cards, smart-contactless cards and credit cards. In this interview they explain the benefits of technology penetration testing or "ethical hacking" for investors and adopters. One of Paget's demonstrations went viral via YouTube in February, blowing apart any faint notion of RFID's billing as a secure identity technology. Equipped with only a $250 signal reader and a conventional laptop which he cloned or copied private passport information from a parked car in San Francisco. H4RDW4RE recently featured high profile demonstrations at 2009 conventions like DefCon & Black Hat and continue to invent solutions for the security problems and risks ordinary people face from identity technologies present in U.S. passports and other public cards.

The ACLU's Chris Calabrese, veteran legal counsel assigned to the anti-Real ID effort in Washington updates listeners on a newly filed legislation. The new bill filed in the House of Representatives, would repeal Real ID entirely and replace it with the negotiated rulemaking process. The rule making process, part of a 9-11 Commissions reform bill, was itself repealed by the Real ID Act of 2005. We observe the modern marvel of when the ACLU can finally agree with the Secretary of DHS on something - that Real ID is dead. More is also included on the PASS Act.

With an upcoming hearing in Washington to evaluate the Real ID Act next week, Lee Tien articulates the standard for acceptable identity in America. Here's a hint: the Real ID Act is not part of the plan.

Outside City Hall, a group calling itself “Citizens for Ear Tatooing Identification” (CETI) protested before the meeting.
