SEASON 3 EPISODE 123: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: Don't be silly, Stephen Miller - you're taking the fall. For contempt of court in the Kilmar Abrego Garcia and Rogue Deportation Flight cases. The target to at least be fined, maybe jailed, for contempt of court has got to be Stephen Miller. The picture is clarifying slowly, the focus is sharpening painstakingly, but it seems evident now that contempt cases being built by District Judges Jeb Boasberg and Paula Xinis – the effort to get depositions about, and charge somebody with, contempt of court in the abduction of Mr. Abrego Garcia AND the renditioning of dozens of others to El Salvador after Boasberg ordered the plane to NOT take off – the slow, methodical attempt to finally, at long last, about damn time, hold SOMEBODY in the Trump Crime Administration responsible for SOMETHING… this whole move to put somebody behind bars, is, in both courts, targeting… Stephen Miller. Based on reporting by NBC, by the Akron Law Journal, by Brian Beutler in "Off Message" and otters: the finding by Judge Boasberg of probable cause for contempt citations against the Trump Gang, and these depositions scheduled by Judge XINIS are apparently designed to confirm what Miller and the other Trumpian monsters are boasting about in private – Miller is the architect of the deportation scheme and especially its baseline component of cruelty. The man who has allegedly hated Hispanics since a girl he asked out in high school turned him down, is also the architect of the scheme to disobey the District Court orders to bring Abrego Garcia home AND to disobey the Supreme Court in the process. The man who greets every warning from a court or an attorney or a human with a conscience to stop now before it is too late for him, by getting louder, and angrier, and more monstrous, the man behind whatever step towards Ethnic Cleansing is next, is Stephen Miller. And it sure looks like Judges Boasberg and Xinis want to put the man Beutler refers to as the "monstrous twerp-fascist" behind bars. AND TRUMP GETS CRAZIER: Literally wants 11-year olds to give up their dolls and pencils for the sake of his delusion, and doesn't know if he has to uphold the constitution and has just infuriated all the Veterans by re-naming Veterans Day "Victory In World War 1 Day" and creating a "Victory In World War 2 Day" on the anniversary of a day when... World War 2 wasn't won. B-Block (34:30) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Trump clowns Labor Secretary Lori DeRemer-Chavez and Secretary of Lies Karoline Leavitt tie with some whoppers. Jesse Watters goes into a cave with Elon Musk. And a pretend reporter named Myles gets told to Eff Off by Ilhan Omar. (41:17) SPORTSBALLCENTER: Tomorrow is the 71st anniversary of the day in 1954 when Roger Bannister became the first to ever run a mile in less than four minutes. Except that he WASN'T the first to ever run a mile in less than four minutes. He wasn't even the first in England, where it had been done 200 years earlier. Never mind, say, in Kenya. (59:30) SPORTSBALL CENTER, CONTINUED: The reason all Bannister's predecessors are unknown is: they were erased from the records by the self-appointed "Amateur Authorities" of the 19th Century who wanted to make sure only "Gentlemen" held the honors. Gentlemen - and White People.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Interview by Angela CroudaceMike Tramp, the iconic frontman of White Lion, is gearing up for his highly anticipated return to Australia. After a long absence since 2008, Tramp is excited to reconnect with fans down under and perform with a new lineup, including seasoned musicians Marcus Nand, Jerry Best, and Brent Arcement. Reflecting on his journey, Tramp shared with us how he embraced Australia as his home back in 1999, moving to Tasmania and later Melbourne. Despite the changes in the music industry, Tramp's dedication to music never wavered, and his passion for performing has led him to revisit the classic White Lion catalogue. In an interview with HEAVY, Tramp spoke candidly about reinterpreting White Lion's songs for today's audience. “Now it's really a matter of going out there and performing the songs… 100% about the music and the songs,” he explained. His approach to re-imagining the band's hits stems from years of personal and musical growth, including an evolution of his vocal style and musical vision. Tramp emphasised that the new renditions of White Lion's songs would reflect a more mature and refined approach, with a fresh yet faithful interpretation.Fans can expect a memorable experience that blends nostalgia with maturity, as Tramp and his band focus on the music rather than the theatrics. “It's almost like they (the songs) became fatter and fuller and not so gung-ho,” Tramp said, explaining how his band has evolved into a more relaxed, confident unit on stage. While the tour will showcase classic hits, Tramp's upcoming set list will also feature deeper cuts like Lady of the Valley and Cry for Freedom, with a few surprises for long-time fans. His passion for delivering authentic performances, paired with his rich history of collaboration, ensures that this tour will be a celebration of both past and present.Mike Tramp's return to Australia is not only a tour of White Lion's music but a homecoming, bringing full circle the journey of a man who's lived and thrived through many musical chapters. Fans can look forward to seeing a band that plays not just for the applause, but for the love of the music itself.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reminds business owners that Monday, April 15, is the deadline to file property tax renditions with their county appraisal districts. Different deadlines apply for certain regulated property. A rendition is a list of the taxable inventory, furniture and fixtures, machinery, equipment, and other property owned or managed as of Jan. 1 each year. The appraisal district may use the information to set property values. A rendition allows property owners to record their opinion of their property's value and ensures that the appraisal district notifies property owners before changing a recorded value. We explore modern Satanism. The boys come back with Satanism Part 2 and talk about The Satanic Temple and other modern splinters of the "religion". We go over the Seven Tenets of The Satanic Temple and how they differ with the LaVeyan school of thought as well as cover the relationship between the COS and TST to cosmic and existential nihilism, a core concept within both sects. If $250 doesn't fit in your budget, then there's Church of Satan Light, where you can pay $25 to still receive absolutely no sense of community, paired with extra servings of bureaucratic hypocrisy and a touch of subjective reality on the side. Chinese science fiction has been booming lately through the translation of books like Liu Cixin's The Three-Body Problem, but where did the current surge come from? In Celestial Empire: The Emergence of Chinese Science Fiction (Wesleyan University Press, 2017), Nathaniel Isaacson introduces the genre's origins in China and tracks its development from roughly 1904 to 1934. During that period, China's final dynasty, the Qing, came to an end amid European nations' increasing control of China, the Republic of China was established, and Japan conquered Manchuria while the Chinese Communist Party was established and grew into a major political-cultural force. Isaacson connects these political shifts to the establishment of science fiction in China through key works by authors like Lu Xun, Wu Jianren, and Lao She. In so doing, he shows how Chinese science fiction is connected to Edward Said's concept of Orientalism, depicting authors' struggles to subvert Orientalist attitudes toward China. Isaacson traces how Orientalism and its attendant colonialist projects were intertwined with Western scientific knowledge in such a way as to make science fiction a fruitful medium for cultural debates over China's role in the world. Nathaniel Isaacson is an Associate Professor of Modern Chinese Literature in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at North Carolina State University. His research interests include the history of Chinese science and science fiction, Chinese cinema, cultural studies, and literary translation. Nathaniel has published articles and translations in the Oxford Handbook of Modern Chinese Literatures, Osiris, Science Fiction Studies, Renditions, Pathlight, and Chinese Literature Today. His book, Celestial Empire: the Emergence of Chinese Science Fiction (2017), examines the emergence of sf in late Qing China. His current book project, Moving the People: the Aesthetics of Mass Transit in Modern China, examines narratives of development as a theme in modern Chinese literary and visual culture primarily through the figure of the train. Amanda Kennell is an Assistant Teaching Professor of International Studies at North Carolina State University. She writes about Japanese media and is currently completing Alice in Japanese Wonderlands: Translation, Adaptation, Mediation, a book about contemporary media and Japanese adaptations of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland novels. If you didn't enjoy Emily St. John Mandel's post-apocalyptic book Station Eleven, you're not alone—Lyta didn't like it either. However, the HBO Max mini-series, starring Mackenzie Rio Davis and Himesh Patel, brings a powerful, unique, and deeply human quality to St. John Mandel's story of a devastating global flu pandemic and societal collapse. In the latest installment of Art for the End Times, Lyta talks with writer and podcaster Aaaron Thorpe about why Station Eleven, an underrated and brilliant TV show in its own right, is one of the few contemporary examples of anticapitalist utopian storytelling.Aaron Thorpe is a writer and podcaster based in Atlanta, Georgia.
