Singer (Author) Effect On Emotions Number one is that mindfulness made me aware that I'm not my emotions. Therefore I have the ability to either touch them or don't touch them. That obviously gives me a lot more clarity in my life. Thoughts On Breathing I love cathartic breathing. How wonderful it is to take three deep breaths; you know, that's part of the relaxed release. Just drop your shoulders, it just releases and you know, the parasympathetic and sympathetic systems that are going through our bodies. If we can reconnect those and align those in through breath. It's just that, by the way, it's really funny; breathing is the only thing that we can control, and then if we don't want to it controls itself. It's autonomous. Breathwork is one of those amazing things that if you still want to pay attention to it, it breathes on its own. But yet, if you want to pay attention to it, you can breathe on your own.   Bullying Story There's a situation right now with one of my daughters. She is caught in a bullying situation. I was just responding to this individual. When I grew up, I was actually bullied quite a bit in a different way. We didn't have cyberbullying, which I think is even worse today. Because I explained to my kids who are 11, nine, and seven. Back when I was growing up, if there was an issue, we unfortunately often got into a physical fight. But it was just different back then. Like it was at school where it happened, but then when we went home, it was it was done. We didn't deal with it anymore. People were not writing notes and leaving them in your mailbox every day, right? Now it's even more difficult because when a kid goes home, all sudden, the bullying goes to the social media networks. How to Know if You Need a “Force Multiplier” and the Steps to Hiring One with Adam Hergenrother and Hallie Warner

Have you heard of a Force Multiplier?A Force Multiplier serves as the behind-the-scenes, right-hand person to the CEO or founder of an organization. This term was coined by Adam Hergenrother (CEO and Founder) and Hallie Warner (Chief of Staff) with Adam Hergenrother Companies, who have been working together for over 12 years. The Founder and the Force Multiplier is a concept that started with a blog that later became a book, then a movement, and now an organization. But Adam didn't hire Hallie to become a Force Multiplier. He hired her to be a Marketing Assistant, and after about 3 months of working together, he realized that she would become his Executive Assistant (it took 6 or 7 Executive Assistants before finding her!). Now, Hallie serves as the Chief of Staff, and Adam considers her his Business Partner. In this episode, Adam explains the three most important things a Founder must do: cast a vision, provide clarity and direction, and make quality decisions every day.But if the Founder is unclear on what the vision is and struggles to provide clarity and direction to others, making good decisions becomes much more difficult, and too much time is spent making decisions on 80% of the things that don't matter.I had to pause Adam here: Why 80%? Where did that number come from?He referenced the Pareto Principle (also known as the 80/20 Rule): 80% of X is caused by 20% of Y. (Here is an example: 80% of results come from 20% of actions.)These 80% of decisions can be handed off to someone who has the ability to think like an entrepreneur, while the CEO or founder focuses on the 20% of decisions that move the needle forward.Basically, Force Multipliers and CEOs are like Batman and Robin. And what's really cool? The CEO/founder isn't Batman. Intrigued? Wanna know more about Force Multipliers, how to find them, and the hiring process? Gotcha covered! Episode 112 is kicked off with Adam Hergenrother! Adam is an entrepreneur at heart, who is the Founder & CEO of the thriving organization Adam Hergenrother Companies that has been voted the best place to work in Vermont an impressive five times! His other work enables many of us to join two seemingly opposing forces–business and spirituality. Armed with the question that stumps many people, Pam asks Adam how he lives authentically. Adam answers the question profoundly. “[Living authentically] Really, ultimately means just aligning yourself with who it is that you truly are–beyond the egoic level of consciousness.[...] It's beyond what you're doing in the world. It's the experience that you're having in life.” He says that for him, at least, it's about accepting that he is “perfectly not perfect.” He believes in “tasting life directly, which means removing yourself from the conscious velcroing of the mind.”Later on in the episode, we transition into a conversation on something that Adam is very familiar with–the merging of business and spirituality. Specifically, Pam asks Adam about grappling with his own sense of self-worth and then building his business empire. From there, he gives us two insightful tales about his life and the moments where he felt that he could either accept a situation or do something and change it. He tells us about a simple interaction at the dinner table with his mother that blew away his preconceived notions about what was truly worth a lot in life. He goes on to talk about the massive impact that spirituality and the right mindset can have on how you conduct business as a whole and even how you deal with a business situation that didn't work in your favor–a discussion that can prove extremely insightful for leaders everywhere. Towards the end of episode 112, Pam asks Adam specifically how he works with companies to instill a commitment to growth within their organization? Adam says, “Number one, it starts with me coming in,” and “We try to bring in that hey, it looks like you're a little velcroed to that thought right now. What would it look like if you weren't?” He goes on to tell us that even something as simple as a quick break in a meeting can relieve tension and break those thoughts that many people get velcroed on, which is just what a lot of organizations need at the moment. If you're interested in hearing all of the conversations from this episode and the real, unfiltered answers from Adam, listen to the podcast! In this episode of the Pursuing Freedom podcast, Hallie joins us to talk about her unique approach to real estate coaching. She shares her real estate journey, the development of Project | U, and her philosophy for goal-setting and execution in 2021. Don’t Let Fear Compel You Hallie’s relationship with Adam has evolved over the years, and she played a major role in the creation of Project | U. Project | U is a real estate coaching organization for high achievers interested in transforming every aspect of their life to maximize their impact and results. Their coaching philosophy is deeply aligned with our mission at Pursuing Freedom because it is centered around the idea of groundedness. We are at the start of a new year, and there is a dichotomy between where we are at and where we want to be. It is difficult to make a plan of attack if we are worried it will lead to burnout because we can’t enjoy our success. On the other hand, complacency is equally dangerous. Continue Your Inner Work Most of us set big goals for 2021. These goals motivate us to produce, but they also overwhelm us when faced with the reality of how we are going to achieve them. Instead of being compelled by fear, we have to focus on making small wins that move the needle no matter how the circumstances change. This requires a ton of inner work which—as you know—is an ongoing process. Let go of the outcome and do the work. When you stop letting the goals define you, you will finally achieve inner peace. Real estate coaching isn’t just about holding you accountable on a performance level, it is about holding you accountable on a spiritual level too. About Hallie Warner Hallie Warner serves as Chief of Staff to the Founder and CEO of Adam Hergenrother Companies. Do you spend a lot of time and money recruiting people to your team? Most businesses do.  Without people, the right people, there is no business. So, naturally, companies spend money and time – often a lot of money and time – on advertising and outreach to find talented individuals In these cases, businesses sometimes think that they have a recruiting problem (i.e., “If only we did x,y and z, we could find the right person!”), but more often than not, it's actually a mission statement problem. Why? Because a clear, strong, and powerful mission statement will attract the right people to your door over and over again. No need to spend tons of time and money hunting for talent… talent will come to you.  And even if you don't have a spot for a talented person on your team right in that moment, they become part of your bench of talent. So when you are ready to make that next hire, you know exactly who you're reaching out to. On this week’s episode, I talk with Caitlin Frauton, our Director of Marketing at Adam Hergenrother Companies. Her path to our company is an example of the power of a clear company mission. It was the mission statement that attracted Caitlin to our organization, and she sheds light on why it was so powerful for her from both from the perspective of an employee and a marketing expert. We go well beyond the words of the mission statement and talk about what it actually means to live and breathe a mission statement. When you do that, you get the right people in the door… every single time. If you need more talent in your world who are passionate about what your organization does, this is an episode you need to hear. Okay, get this… did you know that people who have a clear vision of what they want their lives to look like in the future and feel connected to that vision ultimately have more fulfilling lives? Yup. Research shows that they save more, make better long-term decisions, and make overall better choices when it comes to living happier and healthier lives.*    This explains something that I’ve understood experientially for years since I started using a mindset tool called the Future Self. I describe what it is and how to use it in a previous episode, and this week, I wanted to bring some other leaders onto the podcast to share their experiences with using this tool because people are having serious life-changing success with it. Sure, you can take my word for it that this thing works (and it does!), but the power of it becomes crystal clear when you hear from other high achievers who are using it.   Today, you’ll hear from five leaders within our organization who are using the Future Self – Erin Torres (COO of Hergenrother Realty Group), Michael Mergell (Director of Growth at Hergenrother Realty Group), Cari Heibel-Briner (President of Coaching at Adam Hergenrother Training), Hallie Warner (Chief of Staff at Adam Hergenrother Companies), and Caitlin Frauton (Director of Marketing at Adam Hergenrother Companies).    Give a listen and let me know what you think. I dare you to not want to implement the Future Self in your own life after this one – it’s pretty much impossible after you’ve heard these 5 stories. And by the way, we provide the Future Self for free on our website and email it to you daily, so it couldn’t be simpler to start using.     Lastly, we’re making a BIG announcement that we can’t wait to share with you!     * If you’re interested in the emerging research that supports the importance of creating a Future Self, you can check out this Facebook Livestream (https://www.facebook.com/cari.heibel/videos/10219673661366377/?__tn__=C-R&eid=ARBPu6dddwt0YxR2ujnixnHmfwgZeIgbzN48C7NHXFVQol6V8GVrs4E8cmZd15jfmto7iMYMQxguFEJE&hc_ref=ARRvVK1e9vIwBri1PHTC3VRwT3hLRvQ5gJ_U7fWdkobfNrTAtjv6Kl4TjjdN1SJlEEY&fref=nf&__xts__[0]=68.ARAuUaRpimEpxbMq5B3DWnER7OCugPI4rhfmnRuH4Y3caOGCdTDlDxLQlMm8z356zvZWdT01RSiuCmSRTck6tz1fyn68CaLuMTZKKYdUm3XxpbSRkR0dmU8QIM7o6VRV0GaTgaRr9XJBSnAJVRlKFT5jlNgmkqGi-xN3p-6A7V8gNNuiOapmFmGis8n5HFuZTqW_Btw2DFEf_Sk-nU4En-7R3m_w0VZ1TIrvUe9-wzncG90WlB0GrJR7VHYXiI7P3coPQHDaLV7tYYBkT56sawPsrKCZYtBmRfpOCVKV90ff9evUQmGkTTgIz4SxZ8yx5LleoQdGHF2BZb_X_pDv) that Cari Heibel-Briner did with psychologist and best-selling author Dr. Benjamin Hardy, who wrote the books Why Willpower Doesn’t Work & Personality Isn’t Permanent. How to Conquer Fear: What You Will Learn: How Adam struggled with weight problems, self-esteem issues, and drug use in high school and learned how to conquer fear How early entrepreneurial efforts led to Adam getting his career rolling by buying his first piece of real estate How Adam learned key lessons about business leadership, success, and embracing new experiences Why learning how to conquer fear led Adam to create his “business meets spirituality” philosophy Why fear becomes a motivator to act, and why controlling your fear helps you take the right action for the outcome you want Why centering yourself helps you accept all experiences, good or bad, as growth opportunities Why your perception and mindset shape how you feel about and react to new experiences How taking control of your mind instead of letting it control you helps you develop discipline How to Conquer Fear and Achieve Success Adam Hergenrother is a multifaceted real estate expert, serial entrepreneur, author, speaker, business coach and host of the Business Meets Spirituality podcast. Early struggles taught Adam the importance of developing the right mindset and welcoming new experiences, even the scary ones. Adam learned how to conquer fear, achieve clarity and purpose, and let his passion and joy lead him to success rather than pursuing financial and career success as its own goal. Adam sees himself as a spiritual being having a temporary physical experience, and this philosophy has become the guiding principle that Adam follows in all aspects of his life! Why Do We Fear? As Adam explained during our conversation, “need” is the root of fear. If we didn’t need anything, we wouldn’t fear anything either! Adam believes the secret to learning how to conquer fear is to take control of your mind and recognize the lens through which you are filtering your experiences. Instead of seeing new experiences as “good” or “bad,” Adam believes that all experiences have something valuable to teach us. It’s natural to worry about losing the success we’ve worked so hard for, but that can quickly lead to a “never enough” mentality, where we are always pursuing the next level of achievement. If we instead focus on doing the things we love and feel passionately about, financial success stops being the goal and becomes a natural side effect of pursuing happiness. Fear itself isn’t inherently bad, and in fact it can be a powerful motivator to push us to act! The important thing is to control our fears and decide on the best action to take, rather than giving into fear and letting impulse guide us. Embracing Experiences During our conversation, Adam offered a powerful quote: “Understand, this is hard. This inward journey is harder than making money, it’s harder than any relationship, it’s harder than anything you’ll ever do. But ultimately the reason why you’re here is to evolve your soul. Every experience that you get the opportunity to experience, by definition, was an experience you needed to have.” All of our experiences, both the good and the bad, are valuable! They all have something to teach us that can enrich our lives and help us grow. By being open to what’s happening in the moment, Adam says all the other aspects of your life will fall into place naturally. By not fearing the challenging times, you become more open to the lessons they have to share, and you’re more fully prepared to enjoy the good times. I thought of bringing Adam Hergenrother to Immuno-Palooza, not because he is a physician or a health care provider, more so that he's an ultra-successful person that is purpose-driven and gets things done in his health and life and inspires others to do the same. He takes care of his billion-dollar body like his billion-dollar business empire! Here's a little about Adam (from his website): My story starts when I was a teenager. I was hanging out with the wrong crowd, dabbling in drugs, smoking cigarettes heavily, and using food as a way to escape from life. I was more than 100 pounds overweight, failing classes, and driving a piece-of-crap car. In short, my self-worth was nonexistent. One day my dad found me like that in my room and said, “You have two choices. You can accept where you are or you can change.” That was the day I told myself  “Screw it. No more.” And I decided to change. One year later I was a hundred pounds lighter — physically, mentally, and emotionally. I had shed everything that wasn’t serving me, and I was no longer letting other people dictate who I should be. It was only a couple of years later when I got my first taste of business. I flipped a car with a friend and doubled my initial $500 investment. That was such a powerful lesson for me that within six months I made another $40,000 using the same strategy. I was hooked on business, so right out of college I got a great job. It wasn’t long, however, before I realized my relentless drive to create the biggest life possible would not happen if I was employed by someone else. Real estate piqued my interest when I took that $40,000 from car flipping and invested it in a condo. I had to sell unexpectedly, and it was just enough of a taste of real estate to realize that it was a good match for my relentless drive.  So in 2006, my then-girlfriend, and now beautiful wife, Sarah Ostiguy Hergenrother, and I started the Hergenrother-Ostiguy Group. Our slogan was, “Hard to pronounce, but easy to work with!” Those days were awesome. We borrowed $8,000 to start our business and in the first 30 days spent half of it going to an industry conference. It was the first time I learned that investing in yourself and your own education would provide the biggest return. I then met Gary Keller at a private event in Austin.  After about five minutes of listening to him speak, I was sold. I immediately came back to Vermont and opened a Keller Williams Realty market center. It would prove to be much more challenging than I thought, but I had chosen to step off the sidelines, and into the arena, and it was time to fight for the vision I had.   Fast forward and here we are 10 years later. I have built Keller Williams Vermont to one of the top real estate teams in the state, Hergenrother Realty Group the #4 real estate team in the nation, BlackRock Construction is a dominate force in the development space, and Adam Hergenrother Companies is a $1 billion organization by where personal growth and work-life integration come first. Now, I spend my time leading these organizations, writing books, creating podcasts, speaking, and training, so I can teach others how to use business as a conduit for their personal growth. I thrive on taking on physical challenges including Ironman races, Bikram yoga, hiking, white-water rafting, skiing, and more. I fuel my mind and spirit with forty minutes a day of meditation and spend as much time as possible outdoors with my family and friends. All of this is simple, but not easy. Life is hard. Business building is hard. There are daily struggles to overcome. I believe it’s about finding the gift in all of life’s experiences and understanding that through discovering who you are – a spiritual being having a temporary physical experience – that you have the power to unleash joy in everything you do. In order for an organization to scale and expand to multiple locations successfully, the right right people and systems must be in place. As leaders with an ambition to expand, what are the principles we need to build into our habits and systems to make it happen? Why is clarity such an important thing if you want to succeed? How do we move from a “people business” to a systems business? On this episode, I’m joined by entrepreneur, author, and speaker, Adam Hergenrother to discuss the keys to growth and expansion in real estate.     If you’re extremely purposeful with your time, you can accomplish a lot in a short period. -Adam Hergenrother   Three Things We Learned From This Episode How to focus on what matters as a leader As leaders, we can lose focus with so many things things coming at us. We can solve this by learning to say yes to the right things and cutting off anything else. When we know what really matters to us, it makes it a lot easier for ourselves to be purposeful with our time and make the right decisions.   Why clarity makes us faster and more effective Visionaries are so clear in their head, but we often don’t do enough to articulate it and tell the people around us. Clarity is important because it doesn’t just create power. It also gives us the ability to move faster, quicker and more reliably.     Why leads matter more than anything else The basis of any real estate company is leads. When we hire people, they’re usually looking for leads— and that’s where our coaching should start. When they reach a ceiling in production, that’s when they turn to us for guidance on growing as a person, salesperson and leader.   Guest Bio Adam Hergenrother is an entrepreneur, speaker, author and founder and CEO of Adam Hergenrother Companies. On this episode, Adam Hergenrother, the Founder and CEO of Adam Hergenrother Companies and the OP of a KW Market Centre in Burlington, VT, shares how he turned the trajectory of his life around, and how he runs his successful real estate business.     I approach this as a sport and an opportunity to gain as much as I can from the experiences that are out there. -Adam Hergenrother    Three Things We Learned From This Episode   The valuable life lesson Adam learned as a teenager When Adam was younger, he realized he wasn’t living the life he wanted. In that moment, he came to understand that when we don’t like something in our lives, we can either accept it or do something to change it. The same applies in a shifting market. We can either give up and expect ourselves to fail, or we can prepare our business to actually grow through the shift.   How Adam defines wisdom Adam describes wisdom as applying an idea or concept before you’ve had the “conscious contact and visceral feeling of it”. Once you’ve got experience, it’s no longer wisdom— it’s just doing what works. If we’re wise, we have the ability to take someone else’s model or system and apply it in our lives, even before we’ve had proven success with it.   The model that can help a new agent get predictable results Follow the “one appointment a day” model. If you want predictability of cash flow in your life, you have to get predictability of appointments first. If you focus on the intention of one appointment a day, you won’t experience the ups and downs so many new agents go through.   Speak with a Business Growth Advisor about the next step in your business. Click here to schedule your free Business Consultation.   Business is nothing but our conduit for personal growth. The more we improve ourselves, the more we increase the potential for our business. Success isn't something that just shows up or lands in our lap. We have to actively pursue it by following the models that work, and attract it by becoming the versions of ourselves who can achieve our dreams.

Technology is about to create a big shift in the buying and selling process. Will we be replaced by tech? What qualities are desirable in agents during times like this? How can we survive the shift and leverage the tools we now have access to? What will happen to the single agent? In this episode, Adam Hergenrother shares his predictions about the future of the real estate agent. Every real estate company needs to wake up to virtual brokerages, because those are the ones giving freedom to agents. -Adam Hergenrother Three Things We Learned   The entry barrier will be higher but the agents who make it will earn more money The companies that afford the technology to speed up the process while delivering a superior customer experience will make it harder for agents who have only a few sales per year to survive by themselves. As a result, the entry barrier will be higher. In order to survive, agents will need to join teams where they have access to all the technology and training that they can't get with their own money. A side effect of this shift is the fact that agents will be expected to increase their sales after receiving all the support and training needed.   Agents won't be locked geographically anymore With the rise of virtual brokerages, we can now live anywhere in the world as long as we have access to high-speed internet and a showing agent working for us. The only obstacle that stands in the way of this becoming the norm is the price of airplane tickets.   Virtual brokerages will also have a meeting space Working from home has its own struggles. Loneliness and isolation is a real phenomena among remote workers. Plus the agent ends up feeling disconnected from the company and its team. To counter this, many virtual brokerages are now considering investing in meeting places for their co-workers.   The new shift in real estate caused by technological advancements will enhance both the consumer experience and that of the agent. The companies that have the budget to invest in the newest technologies will be the ones who have the leverage. The agents who want to benefit from this shift will have to join a team that gives them all the resources to make the sale (e.g., assistants, coaching and technology). The agents who now look at real estate as a side hustle will probably disappear, but those who want to make a career out if and have the capacity to adapt will actually benefit from the shift. Most entrepreneurs think the best way to learn is to consume as much knowledge as possible, but the greatest learning comes from taking aim and getting into action. Why is “failing forward” such a powerful teacher? Why is it so important to hire an assistant now, instead of later? On this episode, we are joined by Adam Hergenrother who shares the mindsets, actions and behaviors that have been instrumental to his success. There’s never going to be a perfect time to hire an assistant. -Adam Hergenrother Takeaways + Tactics When hiring the right people, it should create a value of both time and money. There’s no real learning without experience Confidence is an asset At the start of the show, we talked about how Adam got started and the amazing story of how he turned his life around. Next, we talked about the importance of being willing to invite failure if you want to move forward. Adam also talked about why there’s never a perfect time to hire an assistant, and the one thing that gets in the way of the growth of entrepreneurs. Towards the end of the show, we discussed how to build up the emotional fitness to handle the problems that will come your way as you grow your business. We also discussed: The factors that make hockey stick growth possible Why confidence is an asset Why there’s no real learning without experience The chemistry of a transformation You are better off taking a shot and learning from failure than you are analyzing and never making a move. Success looks like a whole series of failures, so learn to invite failure. The good stuff’s on the other side! The only way to get hockey stick growth is to invest in the platform of models, systems, accountability and the x-factor: people who execute. To get to the next level, you must be all-in.
