Lessons From Liberation Week. The Book That Explains Donald Trump 2024 (with Alex Isenstadt)

Liberation Week has come and gone, and now we're in the pause phase. The tariffs? Temporarily stalled. The market? Down, then up, then down again. We're in a holding pattern — with one major exception: the trade war with China is not only still on, it's intensifying. So what did we learn from all this? The answer starts and ends with Trump. The Democrats have branded him the “chaos president,” and they might not be wrong — but maybe not in the way they think. I don't believe Trump sees chaos as a liability. I think he sees it as a strength. When the world is spinning, he can sit back, watch the options unfold, and pick the off-ramp that benefits him most. This isn't about 4D chess or reckless stumbling. It's about comfort in disorder. Trump's not detail-oriented. He doesn't care if the tariffs were slapped together or if mixed messages were coming out of his administration. That's not the game he's playing. He thrives in the swirl, in the noise, and when the moment is right, he chooses a direction — and makes a deal. This matters politically. If the economy craters, Trump owns his executive-order recession. But if it doesn't? If this all just amounts to turbulence before stabilization? Then Democrats are stuck.Because for all the clumsiness and confusion, Trump did a thing. And that matters. In a political world where voters are constantly begging politicians to just do something, Trump did. Democrats will struggle to cut through that with a message if the damage doesn't materialize — or worse, if voters feel like they're seeing results.Which brings us to the working class, to the labor unions, to voters in Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Does a falling stock market hurt them the way it hurts Wall Street? Or are they more focused on jobs, reshoring, and seeing a president at least pretend to care about their industries? That's the gamble Democrats are walking into. Now they have to figure out how to respond to it.The Trump Campaign, RewrittenIf you're like me, you probably went into 2024 expecting another messy, chaotic Trump campaign — full of infighting, wild pivots, and, frankly, incompetence. But Revenge by Alex Isenstadt tells a very different story. It's the first real deep dive into what made Trump's third run for the White House so much more stable and effective, and honestly, I think it's a must-read.This book doesn't just explain how the campaign functioned — it shows how Trump evolved. He may still be the same bombastic figure, but the operation around him was leaner, smarter, and built to survive the spotlight. The team of Suzy Wiles and Chris LaCivita comes off as professional, savvy, and above all, in control. They're not drama-free, but they're competent — and that's a big departure from past cycles. Trumpworld has often been defined by volatility. This time, it was defined by cohesion. One of the most compelling parts of the book is how it tracks Trump's own evolution over two pivotal moments: when it became clear he could go to jail, and when he nearly died. Those aren't just plot points — they're moments that reshape how a person approaches power. Isenstadt paints a picture of a Trump who, while still instinct-driven, begins to understand the stakes in a deeper, more self-preserving way. It doesn't make him less Trump, but it does add a new layer to how he maneuvers.Winners, Losers, and the Veep PickThe behind-the-scenes of the VP selection process is where the book truly shines. JD Vance and his team played the long game masterfully. They activated the right surrogates, moved in sync with the campaign's tone, and created a role that added tangible value to the ticket. Isenstadt captures not just the strategy but the discipline, something we hadn't really seen in previous iterations of MAGA campaign staffing. It feels like a glimpse into the next phase of the movement, where operatives are less bomb-throwers and more builders. Then there are the losers. Corey Lewandowski is treated with near-universal disdain by sources — portrayed as an unstable, self-interested distraction. Natalie Harp, known as the “human printer” for how closely she follows Trump, is mocked for her over-the-top loyalty. These aren't random asides — they're repeated themes, echoed by multiple voices, and they speak to a Trump operation that's becoming more discerning about who actually adds value versus who just adds noise.A Must-Read for 2024 Watchers — and BeyondWhat makes Revenge stand out is that it's not breathless or fawning. It's sober, well-sourced, and focused. It reads like a campaign post-mortem, but for a campaign that's still alive and well. And in doing so, it provides a roadmap — not just for how Trump won again, but for how the infrastructure around him is solidifying into something more lasting. If you're trying to understand where MAGA goes from here, this is the text you start with.If you're following this stuff closely — whether as a political junkie, strategist, or just someone trying to make sense of the world — Revenge isn't just good. It's essential. Trumpworld has never looked this coordinated, and Isenstadt gives us the clearest picture yet of how it happened. But don't take my word for it. From Axios' Senior Political Reporter Alex Isenstadt, a fly-on-the-wall account of Donald Trump's history-defying reelection campaign, illustrating how he overcame seemingly insurmountable challenges to return to the White House.   Over the course of the last four years, the American public looked on as the former president faced a series of daunting obstacles to return to the White House. The lingering cloud of January 6, a shadow effort within the Republican establishment to defeat him in the primary, multiple indictments, assassination attempts, and an 11th hour change of his opponent all threatened to derail his return to power at any moment.   In Revenge, journalist Alex Isenstadt takes readers deep into Mar-a-Lago, inside the courtroom, and aboard “Trump Force One” to show how Trump and his revamped team responded, overcame, and in some cases orchestrated each and every surreal moment in this one-of-a-kind presidential campaign. Based on extraordinary access and over 300 interviews, Isenstadt paints a unique and deeply revealing portrait of a man bent on returning to the White House at all costs – and who successfully portrayed himself as an avatar of vengeance for the millions of Americans who voted for him.   Now, for the first time, readers will experience Trump's reelection bid from the inside.  Join us Monday's and Thursday's at 8EST for our Bi Weekly Happy Hour Hangout's !  Pete on Blue Sky Pete on Threads Pete on Tik Tok Pete on YouTube  Pete on Twitter Pete On Instagram Pete Personal FB page Stand Up with Pete FB page All things Jon Carroll  Follow and Support Pete Coe Buy Ava's Art  Hire DJ Monzyk to build your website or help you with Marketing Gift a Subscription https://www.patreon.com/PeteDominick/gift

They then analyze the personality differences between Trump's first and second administration, particularly the bevy of influential allies currently in his cabinet like White House chief of staff Susie Wiles (10:25). This leads to an examination of Trump as an indomitable political athlete whose mystique has kept a solid base of followers even through his most politically devastating moments (15:40). After the break, Larry and Alex shine a light on Trump's mercurial relationship with Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, and Tucker Carlson, while highlighting the behind-the-scenes machinations that led to JD Vance's ascendancy to Vice President (28:13). Experts said the focus is effective, tapping into the sense among many Americans that they have been left behind. In a sit-down interview with Fox News last month, President Trump and his billionaire “efficiency” advisor Elon Musk framed new tariffs on foreign trading partners as a simple matter of fairness. “I said, ‘Here's what we're going to do: reciprocal. Whatever you charge, I'm charging,'” Trump said of a conversation he'd had with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I'm doing that with every country.” “It seems fair,” Musk said. Trump laughed. “It does,” he said. “It's like, fair is fair,” said Musk, the world's richest person. The moment was one of many in recent months in which Trump and his allies have framed his policy agenda around the concept of fairness — which experts say is a potent political message at a time when many Americans feel thwarted by inflation, high housing costs and other systemic barriers to getting ahead. “Trump has a good sense for what will resonate with folks, and I think we all have a deep sense of morality — and so we all recognize the importance of fairness,” said Kurt Gray, a psychology professor at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and author of the book “Outraged: Why We Fight About Morality and Politics and How to Find Common Ground.” “At the end of the day,” Gray said, “we're always worried about not getting what we deserve.” Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEYmda1KQTjrhLBeWutKuGA/join https://odysee.com/@LukeFordLive, https://rumble.com/lukeford, https://dlive.tv/lukefordlivestreams Superchat: https://entropystream.live/app/lukefordlive Bitchute: https://www.bitchute.com/channel/lukeford/ Soundcloud MP3s: https://soundcloud.com/luke-ford-666431593 Code of Conduct: https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=125692 http://lukeford.net Email me: lukeisback@gmail.com or DM me on Twitter.com/lukeford, Best videos: https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=143746 Support the show | https://www.streamlabs.com/lukeford, https://patreon.com/lukeford, https://PayPal.Me/lukeisback Facebook: http://facebook.com/lukecford Book an online Alexander Technique lesson with Luke: https://alexander90210.com Feel free to clip my videos. Playbook editor Mike DeBonis and deputy editor Zack Stanton break down the weekend in politics, including the Republican Jewish Coalition conference in Las Vegas, NV.  “2024 Republican rivals put Trump on notice,” by Alex Isenstadt in Las Vegas: “If former President Donald Trump thought his early 2024 announcement would cow prospective Republican primary rivals into submission, he clearly miscalculated. “At this weekend's Republican Jewish Coalition conference, a parade of ambitious Republicans hit all the notes that politicians eyeing future campaigns for the White House typically do. Their tones and messages varied — few called out Trump by name — but collectively they made clear they are not going to back down to the former president after a third consecutive poor election with him at the helm. What the contenders sound like: “Mike Pompeo, Trump's hand-picked secretary of State and CIA director, warned that for Republicans to win elections, they can't simply ‘go on Fox News or send tweets.' Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who ran Trump's transition, said Republicans were losing because ‘Donald Trump has put himself before everybody else.' “Nikki Haley, Trump's U.N. ambassador who said last year she wouldn't run if her former boss did, has apparently changed her mind. She used her Saturday evening speech here to say she was looking at running in a ‘serious way,' and to call for ‘a younger generation to lead across the board.' … “‘He's not going to have the financial support he had anymore, he's not going to have the internal support that he had before,' said New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, whose state hosts the first-in-the-nation GOP primary. ‘And so therefore, there's opportunity there. That political weakness is blood in the water for some folks.'” Subscribe to the POLITICO Playbook newsletter Raghu Manavalan is the Host and Senior Editor of POLITICO's Playbook Daily Briefing. Joe Biden suffers some Social Media 101 fails in 2019. And, in an attempt to clear obstacles to his presidential run, Biden called Anita Hill a few weeks ago to offer “regrets” about what he put her through in the 1991 Judiciary Committee hearing with the then-Supreme-Court-nominee, Clarence Thomas. “Hey, Anita, here’s a gaslight for your troubles.” Hill was having none of it and spoke at length to the New York Times saying that she sees “Biden as having ‘set the stage’ for last year’s confirmation of Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, who, like Justice Thomas, was elevated to the court despite accusations against him that he had acted inappropriately toward women.” Elizabeth Warren has one hell of a policy week. She calls for impeachment hearings to begin in the House and makes the case for tuition-free college. Warren’s plan goes even further than other tuition-free college proposals.
