Apologies are in order! Urdunama is making a comeback after a two-week hiatus as Fabeha was busy with mommy duties. In this episode, we delve into the concept of the self. We explore how the Urdu language evokes notions of freedom and self-worth, and discuss the subtle distinction between being firm in one's principles and being 'khuddar'. Listen till the end as Fabeha reads poetry by Javed Akhtar, Kaif Bhopali and Muzaffar Razmi. The episode features original poetry by our listener Mohammad Adnan. You can get your poetry featured in the 'Aap ki Qalam' section of Urdunama. Or if you're a singer, send us a rendition of your favourite songs for 'Aap ki Awaaz'. We'd love to include you in the next episode.

This Episode of Kaka Balli Punjabi Podcast talks about questionable Social media trends, TikToks and Instagram reels by few Punjabi girls. This Episode starts with explaining Prostitution, the world's oldest profession, and the reasons people choose/forced to opt this profession. Online porn Webcam shows and how in some regions, North Korean girls are forced in the profession after they defect for North Korea. I take those situation and compare those to current environment where girls are seeking easy money by willingly performing online show. Even in Punjabi culture where Modesty of Punjabi girls is considered a jewellery and part of their beauty, Girls are not shy to take their clothes off for easy buck. This video is my personal opinion how i see those vulgar insta reels, Tiktoks and social media trends shaping Punjabi culture and ramifications on future generation.
Normally we wouldn't even waste our time on a song like this BUT we noticed thousands of people sharing and celebrating it - even celebrities in India. Sidhu Moose Wala (Kanye West of Punjab) even called this song the "defination of feminism" - so we thought we'd check it out, hoping for a new anthem to our women's empowerment work. It was as if we were expecting a warm hug and got a slap in the face. In this episode as per usual we attempt to translate the song and have a laugh while we're at it. Simran Kaur Dhadli's newest song has resonated with millions, so much so that we may have overestimated the progressive views of Punjabi folks (I mean Sidhu's own music video Brown Shortie features Sonam Bajwa, and according to Simran women dressed like Sonam should drown and die... p.s we might be laughing but if you follow me on Instagram you'll know I'll be writing to the Immigration Minister in Australia, Canada , USA & UK to ban her from ever touring abroad until an apology is issued, I've already written to her production company to demand the song be taken off Youtube as it incites violence against women. A reminder that we do not hate Moosewala but aren't afraid to call out such behavior, he has some good music and we have a podcast we recorded coming out about this rise to fame and how his music has shaped an industry - it's possible to both appreciate certain talent AND call these people out, having said that I won't be listening to his music anymore and as for Prateek - you'll have to tune in to hear what she's got to say.
