When Thomas took our American friends to get their tourist visa renewed; the first question was, why do you want to stay in the country. He found out very quickly, what the wrong answer was, “I have come as a missionary”. Most of the employees at those offices, would have been a members of one of Germanys state churches, either Lutheran or Catholic. Their response was, “Germany doesn't need missionaries”. Deutschland braucht keine Missionarien! We send missionaries to Africa, India and South America, and we don't need Americans here.” Part of the goal of our ministry, that was developing out of the Jesus People movement, was to be self- supporting. Therefore, it was also possible for the Americans to honestly reply, they would be starting a business, and it would be beneficial for the German economy. Compared to the life of a missionary, that went to a third world country, our job was going to be different. Thomas and I, had read the books about the experiences of missionaries to the jungles of Ecuador, and to war torn China. We had no idea, what kind of trials we would be, up against, living in a western country like Germany. Gradually, we would learn, that our warfare, would be of a spiritual nature. The subject of a “missionary calling”, was something that our parents also didn't really understand. Maybe it would have been easier for them, if our starting point, was going to a Bible Seminary for training. I want to begin with Thomas' words to my parents on the tape. He went to great depths to explain to them why we came, and why we were willing to make sacrifices. Both of our parents, would have preferred, that Thomas get a normal job, and that we would live in a normal house. This reminds me of the first conversation Thomas and I, had after we gave our lives to Jesus. It was early in the morning, foggy and damp out on Highway One. I was pregnant and we were hitchhiking to our tipi location. Thomas said, ”I guess we are Christians now because we believe in Jesus. But we are not going to be like those other Christians, who go around preaching to everyone.” This time, we were far away from California! I was pregnant again, and we were living in a cold brick farmhouse in Nienburg. Maybe God, was using our desire to communicate with my parents, to help us formulate what we  believed we were called to do. Our tape recordings were very personal, just talking in our room and imagining that someone would listen to our story.

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement designed to encourage radical generosity as a part of everyday life and TBS is participating! We are a non-profit, and 86% of our annual budget comes as donations. As a private institution, we don't receive any money from the state, but we are still able to provide the highest quality education to our students… that's because of our amazing donors.By donating on GivingTuesday, you'll help us meet our goal of $50,000 raised in one day! What will that investment do?   - Support our programs, which include our already popular and impactful Masters of Divinity and Masters of Arts, including our Biblical History and Archaeology degree, Biblical Studies, Biblical Language and Culture, and Biblical History degrees.   - Help us fund potential new degree programs, including a Master of Counseling, Mission, Christian Education, and Leadership.    - Your generosity will allow students to feel, see, and hear everything online that they would if they were in person. Our DE students are from all over the US, and some of our students are even currently serving in undisclosed locations on the mission field overseas. We are looking forward to GivingTuesday. Our donors are so generous and committed to the cause of providing truly powerful biblical education, and we can't wait to see how we pull together to make a huge impact on GivingTuesday, November 30th!Give now at TheBibleSeminary.edu/gtSupport the show (https://swp.paymentsgateway.net/co/default.aspx?pg_api_login_id=1OV15Ta2pl)

Boaz had to step up and do what was necessary to fulfill that opportunity. Even though Boaz wanted to be the redeemer, He knew He had to submit to God's plan. He knew that God would work things out. God put opportunities in Ruth's path all along the way so that she could step up and work to help care for Naomi. Ruth did her part by staying with Naomi, working in the field, and making herself available to Boaz. God took care of everyone, because they stepped up into the opportunities He placed in front of them.Support the show (https://swp.paymentsgateway.net/co/default.aspx?pg_api_login_id=1OV15Ta2pl)

Ruth was constantly going above and beyond. She lived a life of service. Boaz recognized her servant's heart. He had even heard of Ruth before he ever met her. People saw how committed and loyal Ruth was to serving Naomi and God. They admired Ruth. Boaz admired Ruth. When Boaz saw how genuine Ruth was, he wanted to serve her. In this episode of the TBS Podcast, the question is raised Who Are You When It's Hard? In the Book of Ruth, Naomi and her family went through a lot of difficult stuff. First, they had to move to a completely different place, where the culture was totally different. (Culture = what people from a certain place say, think, do, and believe.) They must have felt like outsiders. Elimelech's name means “God is king,” which shows us his family believed in and worshipped the one true God. Moab was a place where the people believed in and worshipped false gods. Everything Moabites did was centered around their beliefs. It would have been hard to live in a place where people said and did things that were against what Elimelech and his family believed.Support the show

At the end of the episode we come to a powerful realization about the power of prayer, don't miss it."Many times we pray about things and don’t know God’s will, but in the area of trafficking, we DO KNOW IT.  And that is the life blood of the anti-trafficking movement. WE KNOW Jesus came with the intentions to heal, comfort, and free those held down by the ways of the world. That’s a powerful place to stand “in the gap” between the will of hell and the will of Heaven." - Samantha Rude  Samantha Rude is the Director of Audience of One (the 24/7 prayer and worship initiative) at The Great Southwest Prayer Center, a catalytic resource center of worship & prayer for the city of Houston.
