Jude Morrow presented with communication and social difficulties early in life, which led to the diagnosis of Asperger's at age 11. Despite having educational challenges, Jude progressed through secondary school and graduated from the University of Ulster with an honor's degree in social work in 2012. Jude also wrote an article to give practical advice to those on the spectrum during COVID lockdowns and quarantine and shelter in place orders.https://thriveglobal.com/stories/autistic-and-locked-down/ Why Does Daddy Always Look So Sad? is an incredibly honest and inspiring memoir detailing Jude’s life experiences and how living with autism ultimately shaped his journey. And, he’s not alone. About 1 in 68 children in the US is affected by autism. There are nearly 700,000 people on the autism spectrum in the UK alone; that's more than 1 in 100. If you include friends and families, autism is a part of daily life for millions of people around the world. “For as long as I remember I've always been different. The difference now is that I embrace and love my difference, and I want everyone like me to do the same.”Why Does Daddy Always Look So Sad? quickly rose to a bestseller after being self-published in the UK. Beyond Words Publishing will be releasing this debut memoir to the US in the midst of National Autism Awareness Month on April 7, 2020. Jude will be traveling to the States during the week of his launch to speak and advocate for all those who face disabilities today. Through his writing, Jude proves that those with autism can grow to live happy and successful lives-free from marginalization and societal beliefs. www.judemorrow.com

AANE Director of The Peter M. Friedman Neurodiverse Couples Institute, AANE Director of Couples and Partners Services, and Neurodiverse Couples Coach in private practice.Working with neurodiverse couples in which one partner has an Asperger’s/Autism Spectrum Profile is my specialty. I understand the unique strengths and the challengesthat come with these relationships. We cannot change our neurologies, but I can help couples to gain a better understanding of who they each are, who their partner is, andhow their neurological differences affect their relationship. My approach is to first help couples understand the importance of neurology and what it means to be a neurodiverse couple. This includes getting to know how you and yourpartner each think and perceive the world. I help couples identify how their neurological similarities and differences affect the dynamics and interaction of their relationship.Together we can identify areas for skill building and problem-solving. After graduating he moved to Atlanta with a carload of belongings, a Labrador Retriever, and dreams of wealth and success. After the real world swiftly crushed those dreams, he practiced law for many years, developing expertise in business law, corporate finance, and commercial real estate, while working with many of the most talented and/or insufferable attorneys this country has ever produced.Clay and the practice of law parted ways for good in 2009. The breakup was amicable, with both Clay and the legal profession drastically improved as a result. He then spent many years in consulting, developing expertise in corporate finance, financial restructuring, and litigation and bankruptcy strategy consulting. In 2016, he self-diagnosed then was professionally diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, and shortly thereafter, he transitioned into a research director role in a large professional services firm. What happened next? That’s what the book is about. He most enjoys helping people in complicated situations that require original thought, and working with talented professionals who wish to better serve their clients, with a focus on research, marketing, and information technology. When not writing or working, Clay enjoys history, sports, reading, and the outdoors. Ideally, he would hike in the mountains all day, and then stay in a nice hotel. Aquatic Therapy for Children with Autism

Join Melanie Vann and Kristin Walker for a discussion about how aquatic therapy is fun, safe, and effective for children with Autism.Hydrostatic pressureChildren with autism are known to crave deep pressure. Water provides this through hydrostatic pressure, or the pressure that a liquid exerts when it’s at rest. Water exerts 30x more deep pressure stimulation on the body than air. More importantly, unlike pressure vests or weighted blankets, water completely surrounds and envelopes the child’s body, perfectly distributing an equal and consistent amount of pressure on all submerged parts of the body. The result is an especially calming environment that soothes children with autism, helps them organize other sensory inputs, and gives them more confidence to try new movements.Vestibular stimulationSome of the obsessive, repetitive behaviors that children with autism exhibit, such as rocking and twirling, are directly related to an underdeveloped vestibular system. Children with autism usually engage in these activities because they are trying, by external measures, to develop a sense of balance. Unfortunately, these maladaptive modulations are also distracting and, too often, self-destructive. By contrast, moving around in water creates a controlled vestibular situation that is safe and more effective than other methods. Proprioceptive feedbackAquatic therapy for children with autism includes activities specifically designed to provide proprioceptive feedback. Proprioception, also known as your sixth sense, is your body’s ability to understand where it is in space—which is an ability that develops later in childhood, explaining why babies need to be held and why toddlers’ movements are erratic. For children with autism, this sense is usually underdeveloped, making them seem clumsy or strange in their movements. In water, the resistance children encounter when they move, the feel of water rushing past them, and the hydrostatic pressure when they are still all combine to give enhanced proprioceptive feedback and improve this sense.Read the full blog article on Springbrook Autism Behavioral Health's website:https://springbrookautismbehavioral.com/portfolio-item/aquatic-therapy-for-children-with-autism-is-fun-safe-and-effective/
