Shakespeare's Julius Caesar feels urgently contemporary in Rosa Joshi's new production at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival—one of America's largest and longest-running theater festivals, now in its 90th season. Staged in partnership with Seattle's upstart crow collective, the production explores the threat of autocracy, drawing on global histories of dictatorship. Performed entirely by women and nonbinary actors, Joshi's Julius Caesar offers new perspectives on a historically male-dominated political landscape. The result is a fresh reading of Shakespeare's classic tale of power, loyalty, and betrayal. In this episode, Joshi reflects on the production, the politics of performance, and why Shakespeare's plays continue to illuminate moments of crisis. >> Discover more about Julius Caesar at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival From the Shakespeare Unlimited podcast. We cultivate Counter-Racist Media Literacy by scrutinizing journalists' word choices and using logic to deconstruct what is reported as "news." We'll use these sessions to hone our use of terms as tools to reveal truth, neutralize Racists/White people. #ANTIBLACKNESS Summer 2025 wraps it all up with a vicious heat wave across much of the US. President Trump spent time telling US museums to "cool it" with the exhibits about the enslavement of black people and talk of Racist White slave owners. In Uvalde, Texas parents of children victimized in the May 2022 school shooting continue to receive details about why nearly 2 dozen mostly non-white people were killed. Some are still trying to understand the seeming cowardice of the local police response. In Gus' beloved Seattle, 68-year-old navy veteran and privileged black male Harold Powell was nearly shot to death while meditating near the pier 55 Starbucks downtown. A Race Soldier accused Powell of lying about his combat service and summarily shot him on the street in broad daylight. #EndStageWhiteSupremacy INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: http://cash.app/$TheCOWS Call: 720.716.7300 Code: 564943#

Rob Janicke in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.robjanicke.com/ HAVE I GOT A LITTLE STORY FOR YOU...   The year was 1984. I was eleven years old and popular music was in a state of confusion. Along with songs by artists I liked such as Van Halen, Prince, Quiet Riot, Duran Duran, Billy Idol, and The Police, Top 40 radio constantly played songs from bands or artists that didn't quite do it for me. Apologies to Kenny Loggins, Phil Collins, Bananarama, Wang Chung, and Ray Parker Jr.   Due to the divorce of my parents and telling my mom that I was so unhappy that I no longer wanted to live, I was now a couple of years into therapy. It was around this time that I really began to find solace in music. The mid to late '80s gave me hope. Rap, punk rock, and alternative music befriended me at a time when I needed them the most.   A mixtape from 1989, courtesy of a high school friend, opened my soul to the music that would change my life forever- the gritty sound of grunge.   I know that this experience is not unique to me or my life. History has shown that millions of Gen X kids who were going through some heavy times in the late '80s and early '90s, found comfort in the grunge and alternative music and culture that came first from Seattle, then the world. Music can save lives; we are proof of that. This book and that sentiment is for the SLACKER in all of us. - Rob Janicke, author of Slacker

Training camp is winding down, and game week is almost here (with Week Zero kicking off Saturday!). That means it's time for a recap from the road.On the latest episode of Y-Option, presented by our founding partner 76 — keeping you on the GO GO GO so you never miss a beat — Jim Thornby and I sit down to unpack everything learned while traveling coast to coast. What stood out:* Penn State: The Nittany Lions have earned the right to be in the national title conversation. I'm a big believer in Drew Allar, as QBs need scars and every Penn State fan knows he has them. I think his maturity and work off the field will lead him to his most successful season in Happy Valley and I would bet in January he will say he played with the most joy in his young career. * Oregon: Despite losing a ton of production, their competitive depth is elite. Dante Moore (not yet named the starter) looked like one of the most impressive QBs I've seen in years. His ability to layer the ball, locate his wideouts and throw a catchable ball is as good as I've seen on the tour. * The Midwest stops: Illinois (my CFP sleeper), Wisconsin, and Iowa. Three places I'd never been to and each visit revealed growth and momentum. Walking away, my takeaway was simple: everybody has gotten better from a year ago. Another takeaway, Bret Bielema is one of the nation's most underrated head coaches. His experience as a head coach, an assistant with the Patriots & more has tangible depth to it and will only help this team if they can get through September undefeated. I think his team will be one of the biggest storylines of the season.* Back West: Our tour out West began in Eugene and then headed north to Seattle to see Jedd Fisch's team in his second year. Demond Williams, Jonah Coleman, Denzel Boston are all stars. With an improved OL this group is going to give teams fits. Add in two 6'4'' corners and UW will be a must see team this fall. We concluded in LA for some Big Ten Network crew fellowship and after watching DeShaun Foster's Bruins and Lincoln Riley's Trojans one thing is certain–the West Coast schools all look like B1G programs on the offensive and defensive lines. * Overall: the best part of the tour was time with my colleagues. Gerry DiNardo, Kyle Coughlin, Ashley Adamson and all of our Big Ten Network colleagues - it was an absolute blast and we made sure to make the most of it. Episode No. 720 is a summer clips episode featuring artist Tidawhitney Lek. Lek is among the 30+ artists featured in "Spirit House" at the Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington. The exhibition considers how 33 contemporary artists of Asian descent challenge the boundary between life and death through art, including how the spiritual relates to diaspora, connections to ancestral homelands, and the experience of feeling present within multiple cultures and multiple geographies. The show's curatorial framework was inspired by spirit houses, small devotional structures found throughout Thailand that provide shelter for the supernatural. "Spirit House" originated at the Cantor Arts Center, Stanford University, and was curated by Aleesa Pitchamarn Alexander with Kathryn Cua. It is on view in Seattle through January 11, 2026. An excellent exhibition catalogue, titled “Spirit House: Hauntings in Contemporary Art of the Asian Diaspora,” was published by the Cantor and Gregory R. Miller & Co. Amazon and Bookshop offer it for $45-50. Lek is a southern California-based, Cambodian-American artist whose work examines narratives surrounding and the daily experiences of a first-generation American born to immigrant parents. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami, and she's been featured in the Made in LA biennial at the Hammer Museum, University of California, Los Angeles. Her first museum solo show was at the Long Beach Museum of Art in 2023. Discussed on the program: Martha Rosler's “House Beautiful: Bringing the War Home” series may be viewed on the website of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The work of Amir Fallah and Annie Lapin.
