If God is all loving, why did He allow the Coronavirus Pandemic to spread? If God is all powerful, why doesn't he eradicate Covid-19 right now? How can my faith in Christ help me cope with this new way of life? How is the Lord actually making a difference right now? These are not easy questions to answer. In this conversation, Oxford mathematics professor Dr. John Lennox (author of Where is God in a Coronavirus World? and Has Science Buried God?) examines the coronavirus in light of various belief systems and shows how the Christian worldview not only helps us to make sense of it, but also offers us a sure and certain hope to cling to.

The prospect of a pandemic has been a well known systemic risk for many years, but no one could have predicted the exact timing or nature of the current coronavirus crisis. That's often the way with trends: the big shifts are well known; there are many weak signals; but it's hard if not impossible to know exactly the timing and shape of the bell curve that most trends follow. Will they stay niche for one year? Three years? Or suddenly see accelerated mass adoption because of some external trigger? That's why at times like this, when everything seems to be in flux, it's useful to be able to look at trends that were already ‘out there'. Which new behaviors have early adopters and pioneer brands already been embracing? Which trends looked years away from the mainstream (and so were easy to ignore), but now feel primed to become totally normal in a matter of months, if not weeks? Check out as we discuss 5 emerging trends on post coronavirus. 1. VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE ECONOMY 2. SHOPSTREAMING 3. VIRTUAL COMPANIONS. 4. Ambient wellness. 5. My wife, Veronica Morris, went to church - virtual church that is (using zoom) - last Sunday. Now normally about this time I would send out a message for Eid - and that's what this is. However I am inspired in this by my wife Veronica. That's because at church somebody preached a fairly straightforward sermon about how Christ suffered so we can suffer alongside him. Which is one way of looking at things I guess. Though not particularly helpful perhaps. But afterwards when the congregation were having coffee (virtual coffee that is) my wife shouted out, "Did God do this to us? Was it a punishment?" Which certainly got everyone's attention. This Eid message is my response.Support the show (https://www.justgiving.com/tncf)

In this three-part series, Aaron is going to confront the question of if God is good, then why did he allow the coronavirus? In Part 3, we will look at how the Christian worldview answers the problem of evil. Aaron discusses the biblical worldview's answer to the origin of evil, God's love in spite of the world's tragedy, and the comfort that the gospel gives us. Check out the show notes below for highlights and resources. Show Notes The Christian worldview tells us that God's good creation was corrupted by humanity's rebellion in Genesis 3. God's love required the possibility of corruption entering the creation. Because of God's infinite love and wisdom, he knew that free creatures would be better than determined ones. The love and goodness of God provide us with the best foundation for discovering meaning and hope in suffering. “For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory. So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” -- 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (CSB) “And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. This hope will not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” -- Romans 5:3-5 (CSB) “[Our ignorance to God's reasons for suffering] does not mean the Bible advises intellectual capitulation, because God does invite us to “reason together” with him (Isaiah 1:18 KJV) and to give a reason for the hope that we have (1 Peter 3:15). It is reasonable to suppose that the ways of an all-powerful and all-knowing God will sometimes be mysterious to us.” -- Douglas Groothuis, Walking Through Twilight We can have such confidence in the love and goodness of God because he suffered under tragedy and malevolence. “Therefore, a Christian is not so much a person who has solved the problem of pain, suffering and the coronavirus, but one who has come to love and trust a God who has himself suffered.” John Lennox, Where Is God In a Coronavirus World? “God is too good to be unkind and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot trace His hand, we must trust His heart.” Charles Spurgeon Resources I am greatly indebted to John Lennox's Where is God in a Coronavirus World? “Where is God in a Coronavirus World? On this episode of the Digital Supply Chain podcast I talked to to Mike Censurato. Mike is one of the Solution Managers for SAP's Environment Health and Safety (EHS) solutions, based out of the US.Why did I want to talk with Mike? Well now that we are in the middle of the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic, I wanted to know how EHS systems could help organisations to continue working during this crisis, or to re-open if they have been required to shut down. This situation will be with us for a while, so EHS type solutions will be vital in ensuring the safety of workers, and thus the business continuity of organisations. This episode also has the first Listener Question. Marcell Vollmer sent me an audio question on the importance of sustainability for supply chains - remember you too can submit a question or comment - just email me, or message/WhatsApp me (+34 608 252 871) your comment/question and you too can be on the show.We had a great chat, and I loved that Mike brought up the unintended consequence of how requiring workers to wear face masks, could introduce a new workplace risk! The coronavirus pandemic has caused enormous pain and suffering across the globe. Many in our country and around the world are grappling with big questions about life and God because of the pain caused by this crisis. Even for those who are only witnesses to the tragedy, these events are alarming and begging certain questions. In this three-part series, Aaron is going to confront the question of if God is good, then why did he allow the coronavirus? In Part 2, we will consider the three major families of worldviews and consider what answer they each provide for pain and suffering. This episode primarily examines pantheistic and atheistic worldviews and the next episode will cover theistic. Check out the show notes below for highlights and resources. Show Notes Your worldview is a set of beliefs that you use to interpret and interact with the reality around you. In it's most basic form, a worldview answers three questions: where did we come from, what is the problem with the world?, and what is the solution to the problem? Each individual person is unique and will subscribe more or less to one worldview, often blending together multiple worldviews. Intellectual integrity demands we remain consistent with the worldview of our choice. In Part 1, we will consider the uniqueness of the COVID-19 pandemic and why it is so difficult to make sense of it. We will also briefly articulate the classic “problem of evil” and consider it in terms of the current situation. Check out the show notes below for highlights and resources. Show Notes Many of us assumed that plagues and pandemics were relegated to history or less developed parts of the world. Therefore, the coronavirus has made us feel vulnerable. “We thought that our modern, scientific world was a fortress but it turned out to be a house of cards.” “We can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world” -- C. S. Lewis (The Problem of Pain, 81). The problem of evil distinguishes between two different types of evil. “Natural evil” is the tragedy, catastrophe, and frailty of life. “Human evil” is the evil done by the hands of men. It is malevolence. Often these two types of evil can mix and exacerbate one another. “EPICURUS's old questions are yet unanswered. Is he willing to prevent evil, but not able? then is he impotent. Is he able, but not willing? then is he malevolent. Is he both able and willing? whence then is evil?” -- David Hume The problem of evil is “an argument only against the existence of a good God” -- Richard Dawkins (The God Delusion, 135). We need an answer that brings intellectual, emotional, and spiritual insight; so that by making sense of the coronavirus, we can progress in character formation. “Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart.” -- Fyodor Dostoevsky Resources I am greatly indebted to John Lennox's Where is God in a Coronavirus World? “Where is God in a Coronavirus World? A lot of guys have this assumption or belief that, all along the way, all along the path of life that they need to know. They need to have things under control. They need to know what to do. They need to know where to go. They need to know what actions to take. And, that basic uncertainty, which is, which is just overwhelmingly true if we slow down enough to find it, is that during this time, we haven't. -Dan Doty Show Notes This is one of the most in-depth conversations I've had on this podcast. What might be surprising to know is that viruses are essential to life. However, about 1% at most, are what's called 'pathogenic', they are harmful; they can cause everything from the common cold to the Coronavirus. So why did God make a world in which what can be so good for us, can also potentially bring our death? On this episode of Lighthouse Faith podcast, noted Mathematician and Christian apologist Dr. John Lennox, talks about that very question. He has written a small but powerful (and timely) book, called "Where is God in a Coronavirus World?" Lennox says that things like Covid-19 are what's known as 'natural evil'. They are part of the brokenness in this natural world, like tsunamis and tornadoes. There is no human agent, as with 'moral evil'. There's no one to blame or judge. But what these natural evils force us to do is to come to terms with death; our own as well as those whom we love. But it's not just about doom and gloom. God has, and always did, have a plan for the world He created. Dr. Lennox looks to the joy and the hope that God has promised as well.

Where is God in a Coronavirus world?. Series: Dig Deeper. Type: Sermon
Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, changing industries and technology led to massive shifts in American life. And now, after stay-at-home orders end, we will likely emerge to a different world than the one we once knew. Jesus commands us to love our neighbor as ourselves and churches can help people fight against despair by meeting the needs of their communities. This is something Pastor Travis Lowe and his West Virginia church have experienced first hand. He joins Jeff Pickering to share their stories of facing uncertain times with the hope of the gospel. This episode is sponsored by The Good Book Company, publisher of Where is God in a Coronavirus World? by John Lennox Guest Biography Pastor Travis Lowe was born and raised in the Appalachian mountains and is proud to call Bluefield, West Virginia home. He is married to the love of his life, Jessi and they have two children Graci and Dayne. Travis is the pastor of Crossroads Church and he also leads REBUILD.REVIVE.THRIVE., a local business owner think tank for the common good. He is a graduate of Maranatha Bible College and is currently completing a Masters of Ministry through Richmont Graduate University. I'm back from my trip and the world has shut down due to the coronavirus. I discuss why I lost a friend.
Coronavirus is dominating the news, social media and our attention. While we need to stay firmly grounded in the what is happening in the world in order to make the best decisions for ourselves and the whole of humanity, we also need to stay centered in God and focused on Truth. We are powerful Divine beings and there is nothing that can truly harm us. In this episode Rev. Carol shares some interesting metaphors presented by the virus and participants share how they are balancing being in the world but not of it. This was our first online gathering and we are committed to continually improve our sound quality to approximate an in person recording.
