In this episode, Dr. Michelli delves into the captivating world of neuromarketing, specifically focusing on Martin Lindstrom's seminal book, "Buyology: Truth and Lies about Why We Buy". In this episode, Dr. Michelli interprets Lindstrom's comprehensive research into customer behavior, branding, and neuromarketing, unearthing the powerful interplay between sensory engagement and emotional connection in shaping customer experiences. Drawing upon Lindstrom's profound insights, Dr. Michelli discusses the emotional resonance of iconic brands, the imperative to engage all senses in marketing strategies, and the effectiveness of sexual imagery in advertising. Dr. Michelli further provides actionable insights on how to apply these principles in any business. He walks through the process of integrating sensory stimuli at all customer touchpoints, optimizing current sensory elements to elicit the desired emotional response, and the necessity to declutter sensory input to prevent overwhelming customers. Moreover, he underscores the importance of extending emotional engagement with customers beyond the transaction point. This approach, he notes, doesn't only deepen customer loyalty, but also drives repeat business and customer referrals. Amber Vilhauer, from NGNG, works on finding your why, your values, and your pillar content. With those three, you can easily design a whole marketing plan that works for months without burning out. You can gain the trust and attention of your prospects and customers to keep on building a more humane and close relationship with them. Overcome your fears and don't miss out on this opportunity of becoming the Hollywood star of your own life. =====
When you pull back from the narrow focus of influence and influence marketing and look at marketing and advertising overall, the linchpin to being successful in any of this stuff we call a job or career is understanding consumers. The first rule of any type of communications is to know your audience. If you don't know them, or don't start there, you're creating a long way to the goal rather than an efficient one. But it's more than just understanding where they live, how much money they make, their gender, age and ethnicity. To be really good at persuading an audience to take action, you also have to understand their behavior, their psychology and as much as you can, get in their heads. Nancy Harhut studies human behavior. Her background is in the advertising world. She spent time at Mullen and Hill Holiday in Boston. She's been a creative director which may sound nothing like studying human behavior. But the best creatives put that topic at the front of their mind to better inform their ideas. Nancy has a new book out called Using Behavioral Science in Marketing. It's actually refreshing to see a book about understanding consumer's brains coming from someone other than a researcher or scientist, though I love me some Roger Dooley and Martin Lindstrom. I asked Nancy to join us to talk about human behavior through the eyes of a marketing creative person, to uncover how those insights can help creators, agencies and brands in the influence space and beyond. Martin Lindstrom is one of the world's foremost branding and business transformation experts. He's also the author of 8 New York Times best-selling books, translated into 47 languages, with sales well in excess of one million copies. This dude is super interesting and we went deep on everything from defining happiness, to neuro marketing (it's a thing) to being given the responsibility of branding an entire country (changing their global image and the country will surprise you), to the relationship between famous brands (and logos) and people's self-esteem (it's probably not what you think), to why smoking warnings on packaging don't work (at all), to the value of disrupting your life, to ethical marketing and lots more. I learned a lot in this chat. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

How does psychology relate to business? What insights can we use from behavioural science to improve customer experience and even boost sales?Roger Dooley, international keynote speaker, writer, author, and founder of Dooley Directs consultancy, shares his expert knowledge about the intriguing relationship between science and business. He highlights research-backed tactics that any marketers or business owner can use to grow their business and connect with consumers.Roger became fascinated with the convergence in neuroscience and marketing, then began writing about the buzzworthy concept of using behavioural science in your marketing strategy.Since 2006, his work in persuasion, friction, and influence has created a powerful ripple of impact in the digital marketing community.Listen in to learn how Robert and other marketing professionals in companies of all sizes are optimizing their marketing strategies and reducing friction by researching and implementing behavioural science principles. Key Takeaways Savvy brands with large marketing budgets are focusing on leveraging behavioural science principles, like scarcity, social proof, and authority to increase marketing efficacy and sales. In the last 10-20 years, many more brands have adopted behavioural science tactics to create better HR outcomes within the company, improve conversion on their website, improve sales and distribution channels, and much more.Whether you're a large company or a small business, it's very important to test these behavioural science concepts.Roger's one message to marketing professionals and business owners is that consumers and customers are non-consciously influenced to a degree that many businesses don't understand. There are great benefits to eliminating friction, or any unnecessary effort to perform a task, in your business. Doing this will result in a more highly-rated customer experience, but it needs to be a business decision which you get buy-in on.To identify friction in your small business, ask customers to rate/review your processes and the effort spent in those processes. Empathy, care, and connectedness are essential parts of building trust with customers. Demonstrating empathy at scale, even in chat bots, has become a crucial tactic for online businesses.Focus on building a team that is invested in improving customer experience and creating an effortless experience for customers. In addition to that, work to reduce friction for your employees, so it's easier for them to provide great service to your customers.Resources Mentioned:Brainfluence by Roger Dooley: www.rogerdooley.com/books/brainfluence Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman: https://amzn.to/3Ce85rWInfluence by Robert Cialdini: https://amzn.to/3GidBMFPredictably Irrational by Dan Ariely: https://amzn.to/2XKL5SnDon't Make Me Think by Steve Krug: https://amzn.to/2XInIsrSmall DATA by Martin Lindstrom: https://amzn.to/2XIslTlMost Recent Forbes Article - HereGet connected with Roger:Visit his website: www.rogerdooley.com Connect with him on LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/dooley Follow him on Twitter: www.twitter.com/rogerdooley

Procedures that defy logic. Requirements that no one can meet. Practices that are designed to frustrate and confuse. These are all crazy, says my Friday Fireside Chat guest Martin Lindstrom. Martin, who is a world renowned expert on branding and one of the most influential marketing experts in the world will be joining me to discuss, among other things, his brand-new book “The Ministry of Common Sense.” In it, he argues that so much of what we accept about organizational life is actually nuts, a product of bureaucracy and siloed thinking that ultimately harms our well being, our brands and our customers. I'm excited to share stories about his journey, the new book and what he's thinking about as we look forward to whatever comes next. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thoughtsparksritamcgrath/message

About Martin: As one of the world's leading consultants, Martin Lindstrom is ostensibly hired by organizations to create or fix brands. He might be asked to develop a new logo; redesign a website; brand a perfume, a beer, a wristwatch, or a retail environment. But in almost every case it soon becomes obvious that the real problem—the one responsible for lousy morale, lower-than-average productivity, frustrated customers, and an ongoing dearth of innovation is a lack of common sense. Martin finds himself serving as a change agent, bringing to light and resolving corporate blindness and miscommunication to help companies run smoother and become more profitable. In Martin's new book, “The Ministry of Common Sense,” he shows how companies can pinpoint their bureaucratic bottlenecks and invisible red tape to unlock innovation, create an amazing culture, and importantly—save money!
