A week into Donald Trump's “second first term,” the GoodFellows drink from the proverbial fire hose trying to keep up with the news: a flurry of presidential executive orders; a freezing of US foreign aid; policy spats with multiple nations; at Davos, the world's globalists contending with MAGA; a Chinese advancement in artificial intelligence that prompted a market selloff and evokes memories of the Cold War's space race. Hoover senior fellows Niall Ferguson, John Cochrane, and H.R. McMaster discuss the significance of the aid freeze; what Colombia's agreement to accept deportees after threats of a tariff war portends for Trump-brand foreign policy; how the times have changed at Davos's annual World Economic Forum; plus whether the emergence of China's DeepSeek app will trigger a modern-day “moonshot” within the AI sector. Next, the fellows discuss matters they deem neglected (are Russia and Iran's regimes on the ropes?), a DEI executive order, whether Trump's revoking of security clearances and dignitary protection was justified or vindictive, plus the three fellows' Super Bowl plans. Recorded on January 28, 2025.

Peter S. Goodman, The New York Times' Global Economics correspondent, is one of America's most innovative and outspoken journalists. He was on KEEN ON a couple of years ago talking about how the billionaire class - aka: Davos Man - has devoured the world. And now Goodman is back on the show to talk about his latest book, How the World Ran Out of Everything - what he describes as a “cosmically bewildering” journey inside the broken global supply chain. So how, I asked him, are omnivorous Davos Man and today's fractured global supply chain connected? Are they both examples of an an uncontrolled, globalized economic system empowered by free trade agreements like NAFTA?Peter S. Goodman is the Global Economics Correspondent for the New York Times. He was previously the NYT's European economics correspondent, based in London, and the national economics correspondent, based in New York, where he played a leading role in the paper's award-winning coverage of the Great Recession, including a series that was a Pulitzer finalist. Previously, he covered the Internet bubble and bust as the Washington Post's telecommunications reporter, and served as WashPo's China-based Asian economics correspondent. He is the author of Davos Man and Past Due: The End of Easy Money and the Renewal of the American Economy. He graduated from Reed College and completed a master's in Vietnamese history from the University of California, Berkeley.Named as one of the "100 most connected men" by GQ magazine, Andrew Keen is amongst the world's best known broadcasters and commentators. In addition to presenting KEEN ON, he is the host of the long-running How To Fix Democracy show. He is also the author of four prescient books about digital technology: CULT OF THE AMATEUR, DIGITAL VERTIGO, THE INTERNET IS NOT THE ANSWER and HOW TO FIX THE FUTURE. David Murrin discusses his system of forecasting global geopolitics and market trends, which takes into account the stages of empire and imperial decline. There is a rhythm and drumbeat to war which has a bigger cycle of 112 years. We're looking at a struggle between maritime (lateral) democratic governance and landpower (hierarchical) autocratic governance. Democracy is weaker than its ever been. America entered the fifth stage of decline with 9/11. Western leadership is blind and driving the world to war, we're over the brink. WWIII started with the invasion of Ukraine, the Middle East is now on fire, and the last piece of the puzzle is when China chooses to go to war. Decline (e.g. USA) means the fracturing of systems and less to go around. We will continue to see de-dollarization, high inflation, and higher oil and gold prices. Bitcoin, blockchains, and crypto are temporary safe havens that will eventually collapse. We shouldn't worry about Davos Man. Since then for more than two and a half decades he has been running his own hedge fund. During his financial career, his main focus has been on finding and understanding collective human behavioral patterns that comprise the study of human systems behavior. Including deep-seated ‘patterns' in history and then using them to predict the future for geopolitics and markets in today's turbulent times. He has a remarkable track record. David has written four books. Breaking the Code of History recognizes that post 9/11, the world changed in an instant. Using his theory's of human social structures he was able to successfully predict back in 2007 the key process in human social structures that have impacted today's changing world, including the decline of America and the West and the rise of China, and the reality of climate change. His second book released in 2018 is Lions Led By Lions which examines Britain's misunderstood involvement in the First World War and the achieved learning curve of its Army's leadership that resulted in a war-winning British Expeditionary Force rolling back the German Army in 1918. The story provides clear lessons that should be applied by today's leaders concerning the deterrence of global conflict. David's third book is a call to arms, in which his Now or Never UK Defense Review highlights the clear and present threats faced by Britain in the years and decade ahead from Russia and especially China, and the urgency for the need for large scale rearmament to secure the future peace. David's latest book Red Lightning which integrates fact and fiction and describes from a future perspective how China wins WW3 in 2025. It is a sober warning to the leaders of the Western World, that peace will only be maintained by a hard-won deterrence of aggression. *Podcast intro music is from the song "The Queens Jig" by "Musicke & Mirth" from their album "Music for Two Lyra Viols": ...

Darrell Castle once again talks about the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum which is concluding its meeting in Davos, Switzerland today. It is there that they decide the fate of the rest of us lesser beings. Transcription / Notes OUR BETTERS MEET IN SWITZERLAND Hello, this is Darrell Castle with today's Castle Report. This is Friday the 19th day of January in the year of our Lord 2024. I will be talking once again about the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum which is concluding its meeting in Davos Switzerland today. Each year the world's kingpins, the chieftains of industry, the visionaries, the prophets, the grand and the great but most of all in their eyes, the good, meet to decide the fate of the rest of us lesser beings. Yes, what reporter Ben Bartee refers to as The World Technocracy Anti-Human Forum is conducting its annual meeting and accordingly the United States has dispatched its most senior delegation to assist the forum in imposing its will on the American people. The U.S. delegation is headed by Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, but includes the director of the FBI, the director of national intelligence, and of course climate special envoy, John Kerry. The list also includes Senator Joe Manchin for his third consecutive visit as well as representative Darrell Issa. A featured address was delivered by managing director Saadia Zahidi. She attended all the right schools including, of course, Harvard and she has worked for all the right people. She said that climate change is humanity's biggest threat, but humanity's biggest problem is misinformation. I take that statement to mean people who have opinions adverse to the World Economic Forum. The head of the WEF Herr Klaus Schwab, also gave his usual welcoming speech: “We face a fractured world and growing societal divides, leading to pervasive uncertainty and pessimism. We have to rebuild trust in our future by moving beyond crisis management, looking at the root causes of the present problems and building together a more promising future.” Translation, people are growing tired of being managed by us and they are growing wise to our pandemics, forced vaccines and other depopulation schemes. If you want to see the cause of our present problems Herr Schwab, go look in the mirror. He also remarked as just an aside that elections would soon be just a quaint relic from the past. Trust has to be rebuilt Davos Man told us many times at this year's meeting, but why and how was trust broken. I suggest that Davos Man's handprints are on just about every bad thing these days and people are growing weary. He was passionately fanatical about lockdowns, forced vaccinations, and government lying propaganda. Davos Man is no fool though he assumes the rest of us are. He was very quick to tape shut the mouths of any dissidents, to take their jobs, and silence their voices. He is correct then, that trust has been broken and he is correct to fear for his reputation. Maybe that's why this meeting called misinformation and disinformation among the world's great threats. What he calls misinformation and disinformation are most often just information, but Davos Man is very concerned that he may somehow lose his grip on people's minds. This growing fear is being driven by AI or artificial intelligence. Davos Man is accustomed to being the only intelligence people have access to and now this new technology is available to anyone smart enough to use it. Perhaps he will adopt and use AI for his own purposes. Yes, climate change and its dire predictions of imminent catastrophe seem like perfect places for Davos Man to demonstrate his mastery of AI. Climate change is, after all, a truly global problem and only a truly global solution such as global top-down government run by Davos Man can solve it. One of the chief items on the agenda at Davos this year was the appearance of the mysterious “Disease X” which will be 20 times deadlier than Covid.

The evisceration of the middle class over the last fifty years has made many Americans dependent on the federal government. Open borders have undermined the idea of allegiance to a particular place. Identity politics have eradicated our collective civic sense of self. And a top-heavy administrative state has endangered personal liberty, along with formal efforts to weaken the Constitution. 1900 KAISER WILHELM AND TR

Transcription / Notes DAVOS MAN AND THE ANNUAL MEETING OF NEW CHAMPIONS Hello, this is Darrell Castle with today's Castle report. This is Friday the 7th day of July in the year of our Lord 2023. I will be talking about the summer conference of the World Economic Forum which just concluded its summer meeting in Communist China. This Report is a continued warning that the WEF is real and its members work individually and collectively night and day for the destruction of human freedom around the globe. The World Economic Forum would be a joke if it were just some bunch of university professors talking about imposing their will on the world, but it is instead made up of the richest and most prominent people on earth. Titans of industry, especially high-tech industry, university intellectuals, bureaucrats, and politicians from virtually all governments meet to discuss how they can destroy the freedom and independence of the rest of us. They refer to themselves in this summer conference as (AMNC) and that means, believe it or not, The Annual Meeting of New Champions. This summer's conference concentrated on the most woke and anti-freedom ideas disguised as inclusive but in fact hiding in plain sight its genocidal ideology which it inherited from the Nazi father of its current president Klaus Schwab. Specifically, this conference met with its primary agenda the current status of Central Bank Digital Currency. Quote from the Conference as to status: The exploration of central bank digital currencies (CBDC) has gained significant momentum worldwide. With over 100 countries actively engaged in CBDC research and development, there is growing recognition of CBDC's as transformative tools in the future of digital payments. To ensure successful implementation and promote interoperability, global coordination becomes paramount.” I will attempt to interpret that gobbledegook as I am able. It means that we already have over 100 countries on board and that includes all the important ones that we must have. We are going to eliminate privacy and human freedom and we don't care whether you lesser sheep like it or not because either way there is nothing you can do about it. We must have global coordination to achieve victory over freedom and that means no pesky legislatures have anything to say about what we say or do. CBDC's are tied to money and money is the control mechanism, but they also include digital identification of every human on earth. Tied to money, the digital ID will be a Communist China-like social credit score and system. The digital ID will be required for such human activities as travel, owning and using electronic devices, shopping, especially for food, social media use, healthcare and medical treatment, insurance, and of course voting. In other words, the plan is to deprive you of those things absent government permission. During the lockdowns, which the WEF basically admits was a trial run and a conditioning program, anyone proposing a different solution on social media was canceled. The WEF is clear that dissent and opposition will not be tolerated in the great reset. What these people are planning is the denial of life-saving medical treatment if you go on Twitter and refer to a person by an incorrect pronoun. You can't get a plane ticket or buy gas because you question the government or what passes for it on Facebook. Does this sound like insanity to you? Well good because it is, but that doesn't mean it is not happening and we should just ignore it. This system is already in place in Communist China, the site of the Conference, which was chosen purposefully to study and glorify China's social credit system.

The Far Middle episode 91 is dedicated to a triumvirate of sports greats—Mario Lemieux, Michael Jordan, and Nolan Ryan—and their 1991 achievements. These three individuals represented greatness, which is a recurring theme in episode 91, starting with human ingenuity and innovation. Nick looks back to the start of the Industrial Revolution to present day, examining a range of metrics over that time period. These include life expectancy, infant mortality rates, income per capita, and global population. These indicators have all trended in a positive direction over the last ~200 years. While advancements in medicine and agriculture have contributed to society’s progress, the single biggest contributor is mankind’s harnessing the power of the carbon atom through energy, says Nick. He notes that nations such as the U.S. and those in western Europe that have embraced republican democracy, free markets and capitalism, individual rights, and fossil fuels have seen these metrics yield even greater gains. Given society’s track record of innovation over the past 200 years, buttressed by the carbon atom, Nick questions the motivation of global elites at the recent United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) who want to apply reparations theory based on fossil fuel consumption. Nick argues the whole idea of reparations tied to energy use or carbon utilization smacks of trying to pull down success and demoralizes innovators, instead we should be establishing pathways and policies to pull up the areas that might be lagging to improve their quality of life. Nick returns to domestic energy policy to examine the story behind a recent headline that read, “Georgia Gets Big Solar Investment.” Nick says a more fitting headline, albeit longer, would’ve been, “Over Half a Billion Dollars a Year Appropriated from the Middle Class to Offshore Conglomerate Corporation Under the Protected Graft of U.S. Climate Policy.” Nick moves from the Peach State to the Golden State to discuss California natural gas prices next, then returns to the global stage with commentary on the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. “This past year has provided clear evidence that ‘Davos Man’ and ‘Davos Woman’ may represent the single biggest risk to humanity in the near term,” says Nick. “Sometimes I get the feeling that if we canceled the annual Davos escapade it would be an instant upgrade for the condition of humanity.” In closing, Nick returns to 1991 to highlight several of the great alternative rock albums that came out that year. Give a listen to hear Nick’s favorite.

Transcription / Notes: DAVOS MAN—MAKING THE WORLD A WORSE PLACE Hello, this is Darrell Castle with today's Castle Report. This is Friday the 20th day of January in the year of our Lord 2023. I will be talking about a special kind of man on this report and that is Davos Man. He is meeting this week in a small village high in the Swiss alps called Davos. His meeting, held annually, and called The World Economic Forum, ends today so he will have hundreds of gleaming limousines take him to an airport where he will board more than 1000 private jets which will fly him to his destination. During his week in Davos he was guarded by more than 5000 Swiss soldiers less he become endangered or made to feel insecure. Hundreds of world leaders, politicians, titans of business gathered during the past week to discuss the fate of the rest of us lesser people. Davos Man is not like us for he is a kingpin, a chief of planet earth. He is great and he is good, a one-world, deep stater, a world improver, and he alone can save planet earth from the ravages of lesser beings like us. For example the top U.S. representative was John Kerry who holds the title of climate czar, savior of the planet, or words to that effect. The attitude of Mr. Kerry reflects the attitude of many as they are made to understand their own awesomeness. Quote from Mr. Kerry: “If you stop and think about it, it's pretty extraordinary that we, a select group of human beings, because of whatever touched us at some point in our lives, are able to sit in a room and come together and actually talk about saving the planet. I mean, it's so, almost extraterrestrial to think about quote “saving the planet.” If you said that to most people, most people think you're just a crazy, tree-hugging, leftie, liberal…you know,  do-gooder ,whatever…and there's no relationship. But really, that's where we are.” Well, no John, actually I see you as more of a hypocritical megalomaniac who flies hundreds of thousands of miles per year in private jets to lecture us little ignorant people about how we are destroying the planet. You come to Davos to sit at the feet of a Teutonic bond villain, descended from Nazis who has the audacity to tell us that we will own nothing, and we will like it. We will not eat meat, but instead we will like our bugs, and we will never desire to stray from the tiny plot on which we are confined.  The number one Davos Man, the leader, the founder, and head of The World Economic Forum, is a German named Klaus Schwab. His Teutonic accent is very heavy so much so that he cannot say the “r” sound. He says that we little people are in for a very difficult year and we will therefore have to “write off” the huge costs of transformation. He means that the huge cost he dreams up for us will have to be borne by our labor, not his. Since each one of us has his own destination, how does Herr Schwab know where each of us should go? He knows because Davos Man always knows best. His theme at this year's conference was expressed by Kristalina Georgieva who heads up the International Monetary Fund (IMF). She gave voice to Herr Schwab's transformation theme: “2023 will be a difficult year for the world. The silver lining is we can use it to transform economies & accelerate change that's good for our climate, good for growth. At the IMF, we recognize our responsibility to be a force for good. We're not going to sit back and see what direction the world takes, she says; we're going to give it a shove!” Ms. Georgieva says that the major challenge facing the planet is fragmentation. By that she means that the global order-which Davos men and women like her created—is fragmenting or cracking up. Ms. Georgieva came to Davos to deliver her report, not to accurately deliver the truth to the assembled Davos men.

Is the World Economic Forum in Davos a serious discussion about climate change and injustice, or just a chance for billionaires to get together and do business? Find out as Jason Hartman interviews Peter S. Goodman, Global Economic Correspondent for The New York Times, as they discuss his new book, Davos Man: How the Billionaires Devoured the World. The World Economic Forum institution was started by German economist Klaus Schwab back in the 70s, on the proposition that if you got businesses and governments together, you could solve a lot of problems. Schwab claims to be interested in public private partnerships and win-win solutions. But somewhere along the way, the WEF has become, under the guise of a nonprofit foundation, a highly lucrative enterprise. Schwab brings in heads of state from around the world to meet with billionaires, public intellectuals, a whole lot of journalists, the odd Hollywood celebrity, musicians etc. But according to Goodman, it's a charade; they are there to do business. The WEF 2022 recently took place last May. Peter profiles the “Davos Man” as someone who makes himself the solution where he is the problem: just allow us to do our deals, and have our conversations about how to solve the big problems of the day and we will take care of that and all of the benefits will just magically trickle down throughout society. Goodman, to learn about the handful of billionaires that are dramatically re-structuring the world as we know it. In the two years since the pandemic began, the ten richest people on the planet have more than doubled their wealth, even while homelessness and housing inadequacy have increased at a rapid rate. And this isn't just about housing, these people impact systems all over the world – health care, public health, sovereign debt, the list goes on. These billionaires hide behind a cosmic lie – that by giving them tax breaks and advantages everyone will reap the benefits – while creating the problems they are claiming to solve.Goodman's must-read new book, Davos Man, unpacks that cosmic lie by exploring who these people are and how they have manipulated laws and policies to uphold and perpetuate a system that proves, year after year, to primarily benefit the ultra-wealthy.Support the show

Let's not kid ourselves. That is something that has in reality happened zero times… Key Takeaways: 0:00 Welcome Peter S. The World Economic Forum held its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, wherein the world's elites come together in their private jets in order to mingle, plan out the future, and also (ironically) lay the groundwork for reducing the world's carbon footprint. Because they meet in the city of Davos, back in the year 2004, this gave rise to a certain term—specifically, the “Davos Man.” Sam Huntington of the National Interest coined the term “Davos Man” and described this new cosmopolitan class of elitists. And indeed, for the past 51 years, these global elites, with most of them being non-elected individuals, gather in semi-secrecy in order to decide policies that they want to see implemented on a global level. And given the fact that these global elites are in control of the levers of power in their respective societies, they are in the position to implement what they want. ⭕️ Sign up for our NEWSLETTER and stay in touch

“Davos Man's domination of the gains of globalization,” journalist Peter S. Goodman writes in “Davos Man: How the Billionaires Devoured the World,” “is how the United States found itself led by a patently unqualified casino developer as it grappled with a public health emergency that killed more Americans than those who died in World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War combined. Davos Man's marauding explains why the United Kingdom was still consumed with Brexit—an elaborate act of self-harm—at the same time that it was failing to get a handle on the pandemic. It explains how France became roiled by a ferocious protest movement, and how even Sweden, a supposed bastion of social democracy, now seethes with anti-immigrant hate. This is not how history was supposed to unfold.” This week on the podcast, Lewis H. Lapham speaks with Peter S. Goodman, author of Davos Man: How the Billionaires Devoured the World, about that history, starting with the robber barons of the Gilded Age, stopping by the Reagan era, and ending with 2022. "Davos Man", coined by the late political scientist and Clash of Civilizations author Samuel P. Huntington, refers to the ultra-wealthy attendees of Klaus Schwab's annual World Economic Forum conference in Davos, Switzerland. Peter has covered a number of these conferences and offers his insights on what drives "Davos Man", why "Davos Man" should be looked at from a conspiratorial lens, and more. We also discuss Donald Trump and Bill Clinton's relation to Davos and the billionaire class, Silicon Valley tech giant Marc Benioff, the multinational investment management corporation BlackRock and its CEO Larry Fink, the potentially false promise of shareholder capitalism, Milton Friedman and stakeholder maximization, immigration, labor exploitation, Jeff Bezos and the ideology of "Davos Man", Amazon labor organizer Chris Smalls, tax avoidance schemes, the Syrian refugee simulation at Davos, and much, much more.

Nathan Carson discusses the overturning of the unipolar status quo by way of military strength by revisionist powers (e.g. Russia, China). After the collapse of the Soviet Union the West unsuccessfully attempted to supersize and globalize the neoliberal international order, and instead we're looking at the return of history and the last Davos man. The world as we knew the past 30 years is over. Nations are now trying to carve out their own spheres of interest, to find the new equilibrium in the international system. People are trying to find out what this brave new world looks like. The world is moving toward a more regionalized bloc system. China is having numerous problems and is attempting to solve them via automation, which is expensive. We're seeing rising food price inflation, food insecurity, and input prices. The U.S. is very food self-sufficient, there you might see localized shortages. The developing world could be on the brink of famine. Globalization is dead, we can't save the system. Localized resilient systems need to be built. Billionaires have looted economies, hidden from tax bills, and destabilized democracies for decades. "Davos Man: a member of the global billionaire class that controls the majority of the world's wealth". In his new book, New York Times global economics correspondent Peter S. Goodman contends that those billionaires have spent the past fifty years systematically looting the world's economies, starving societies of much needed tax revenues, profiting from the Covid-19 pandemic and destabilising democracy, all under the guise of a new, more socially conscious form of capitalism. Mr Goodman calls it one of the most monumental heists in human history; the systematic transfer of wealth from ordinary people to the billionaire class. Kathryn speaks with Peter S. Goodman about Davos Man: How the Billionaires Devoured the World.

Class is in session – In this two-part episode, the Filmmaker and the Advocate sit down with New York Times correspondent and author of powerful new book Davos Man: How the Billionaires Devoured the World, Peter S. These billionaires hide behind a cosmic lie – that by giving them tax breaks and advantages everyone will reap the benefits – while creating the problems they are claiming to solve.Goodman's must-read new book, Davos Man, unpacks that cosmic lie by exploring who these people are and how they have manipulated laws and policies to uphold and perpetuate a system that proves, year after year, to primarily benefit the ultra-wealthy.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/pushbacktalks)

The Maid by Nita Prose. Molly the maid works at the Regency Grand Hotel. She's a loner, alone in the world and clearly somewhere on the spectrum but she takes enormous pride in her work. Then one day she finds a guest dead in his bed which starts a whole chain of events which change her life forever. Readers who liked Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine will love this.   Davos Man by Peter S. Goodman. This is fantastic nonfiction about the billionaires who rule the world – and gather every year at Davos in Switzerland for their World Economic Forum. He focuses on five men – all men, these books are always all men – Jeff Bezos, a hedge fund guy, a big league asset manager, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase and another one – and shows with great clarity how they're all really good at publicly worrying about the state of the world - inequality, poverty, all the usual stuff, speaking really empathetically and sounding almost like one of us, and then doing absolutely everything they can behind the scenes to protect their privilege and position and power – and, of course, their money. It's full of stories of people, organisations and countries that have been hugely disadvantaged by the hold they have on the world and I thought it was riveting.

The World Economic Forum is something that takes place every year in Davos, Switzerland. Mark Benioff, Billionaire CEO of cloud computing company Salesforce who frequents this forum, is an evangelist for a concept known as stakeholder capitalism. The notion that corporate executors have an obligation to not just do what's best for its shareholders, the folks who bought the stocks and reaped the dividends, but for all its stakeholders including the company's workers, consumers, suppliers, and more broadly, society at large. It's positioned Benioff as that most admirable of characters at the annual retreat, a progressive CEO committed to ending climate change, promoting diversity, and otherwise making the world a better place. But according to our guest Peter S. Goodman of The New York Times, and author of the book Davos Man, it's all a charade. In addition, our hosts discuss the latest developments into Jan. 6th, the newly discovered Draft Executive Order for the Military to cease election machines, as well as the recent news out of Georgia in regards to the infamous Trump phone call to find him more votes. Davos Man: How the Billionaires Devoured the World by Peter S. Goodman From the New York Times's Global Economics Correspondent, a masterwork of explanatory journalism that exposes how billionaires' systematic plunder of the world—brazenly accelerated during the pandemic—has transformed 21st-century life and dangerously destabilized democracy. "Davos Man will be read a hundred years from now as a warning. ... Deliciously rich with searing detail, the clarity is reminiscent of Tom Wolfe." —EVAN OSNOS The history of the last half century in America, Europe, and other major economies is in large part the story of wealth flowing upward. The most affluent people emerged from capitalism's triumph in the Cold War to loot the peace, depriving governments of the resources needed to serve their people, and leaving them tragically unprepared for the worst pandemic in a century. Drawing on decades of experience covering the global economy, award-winning journalist Peter S. Goodman profiles five representative "Davos Men"–members of the billionaire class–chronicling how their shocking exploitation of the global pandemic has hastened a fifty-year trend of wealth centralization. Alongside this reporting, Goodman delivers textured portraits of those caught in Davos Man's wake, including a former steelworker in the American Midwest, a Bangladeshi migrant in Qatar, a Seattle doctor on the front lines of the fight against COVID, blue-collar workers in the tenements of Buenos Aires, an African immigrant in Sweden, a textile manufacturer in Italy, an Amazon warehouse employee in New York City, and more. Goodman's rollicking and revelatory exposé of the global billionaire class reveals their hidden impact on nearly every aspect of modern society: widening wealth inequality, the rise of anti-democratic nationalism, the shrinking opportunity to earn a livable wage, the vulnerabilities of our health-care systems, access to affordable housing, unequal taxation, and even the quality of the shirt on your back. Meticulously reported yet compulsively readable, Davos Man is an essential read for anyone concerned about economic justice, the capacity of societies to grapple with their greatest challenges, and the sanctity of representative government.

This is the week that the world's richest and most powerful were supposed to park their private jets on crowded tarmacs in Switzerland to gather and compare their fortunes while snickering at the rest of us who fly commercial. But COVID spoiled their plans. So the Davos World Economic Forum for 2022 is a virtual gathering. But gather, they must, if only to compare notes on which of these billionaires' wealth increased the most under the pandemic. My guest today is Peter S. Goodman, author of the new book, "Davos Man: How the Billionaires Devoured the World," just released today. He'll tell us how the "Davos Man" (think Florida man, but filthy rich) doubled his wealth during (and thanks to) the pandemic, while for 99% of us, things got much worse. We'll begin in the Senate where, today, they're finally debating voting rights (thanks to an antiquated rule that allowed Democrats to proceed to debate without being subjected to the filibuster), despite there being virtually no chance whatsoever of coming out of this a winner.

In this episode of Bitcoin Magazine's “Fed Watch'' podcast, Christian Keroles and I sit down with Tom Luongo of Gold Goats & Guns to talk about Europe and central bank politics. We go into the weeds, what's happening behind closed doors as it were, in a discussion you won't find on any other show. Tom's theories revolve around his idea of the primarily European/Western elites which he sums up as Davos man. It's a wide-ranging discussion which I outline below. You can find all of Tom's content on his website. I recommend going back to episode 75-77 to get a summary of Davos man and his geopolitical framework. Tom is a long time bitcoin advocate, so of course, we discuss what bitcoin means geopolitically in this time of great change. Who or what is Davos man? I read a post from Tom Luongo that was syndicated to Zerohedge several months ago. In that post he was calling the European elites “Davos man”. I was struck by this framing, because it perfectly sums up the elites of the declining world order in my general geopolitical framework. Tom describes them as, “all the people who think they run the world.” Their calling cards are globalization, international institutions (like NATO, the EU and the UN), climate change, and a global tax regime. He sums it up as “communists”, I'd add to that that they are global communists. The goal of Davos is to reverse WWII, where European economies were destroyed and capital fled to the US. This time, they want to cause global chaos outside of Europe, and make the EU the center for capital flight in the coming decades. Powell and Davos Tom frames the current struggle as a battle between Davos man and Wall St. Powell is not Janet Yellen; he is loyal to US money interests in a way that contradicts Davos' full court press against the world. Tom filled in our blanks on why Powell is different. For the last year, Christian and I, on FedWatch have been saying Powell is a “straight shooter”. We sensed he was different than the typical central bank elite. Now I see that this central banking elite is part of the Davos world order.   Powell has stiff-armed Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) and provided monetary facilities that have maintained US dollar dominance in the global financial system. Tom goes into why his renomination is so important, because it is like drawing a red line, the US will not play Davos' game anymore. Cinderella favorite Lael Brainard, who was passed up for Chairman because her appointment by the Senate was questionable, and her deep connections to the CCP through her husband have surfaced. World tour of geopolitics In the second half of the show, our conversation gets into the weeds on specific hotspots around the world. We and Tom are in agreement that Europe is in a lot of trouble. But where I am concerned about Russia's natural geopolitical drive for strategic depth and their waning demographic time bomb, Luongo is not as worried because Russia does not want to be dragged into a war. To give you an idea of the ground we cover quickly at the end of the podcast, we brought in Afghanistan and why that was such a pivotal event, MacKinder and Brzezinski's Heartland Theory, and the US' return to non-interventionism.   If you enjoyed this content please subscribe and review on iTunes to help others find the show. Robin Hanson is a professor of economics at George Mason University. He joins the podcast to talk about futarchy, a system in which people would vote on values, but bet on beliefs. The conversation touches on the nature of rationality, why firms don't actually maximize profits, why betting markets are better than other forms of prediction or expertise, regulatory and psychological barriers to adopting new technologies, and why the rise of "Davos Man" and a global culture might be bad for innovation. Hanson and Hanania close by discussing the prospects for making futarchy a reality, in the near and long term.
