"Never has diplomacy been more needed" - that's the call from Winston Peters at Gallipoli. At the Dawn Service the Foreign Affairs Minister delivered a rousing call for unity - telling those present to honour those who died by coming together and demanding more from a divided world. Here's political reporter Giles Dexter.
The New Zealand Defence Force bugle player at Gallipoli says it was "a little stressful" figuring out how to play The Last Post on a cornet borrowed from his Australian counterparts 10-minutes before the Dawn Service began.

Hell Fire Pass Kanchanaburi through the cutting on Anzac day Dawn Service
It was a long day for RSA president Sir Wayne Shelford who spoke at the Dawn Service in Wellington in the first of many duties. Thousands attended Anzac Day ceremonies around New Zealand yesterday. The former All Blacks captain speaks to Corin Dann.
Rain didn't stop large numbers gathering at Anzac Cove in Turkey for the Dawn Service in commemoration of World War One veterans. Eleven thousand New Zealand and Australian soldiers died in the WWI military campaign. Among those to speak on Gallipoli Peninsula was Defence Minister Andrew Little. Little spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss about what it was like to be at Anzac Cove.
As Australians gathered across the world to honour the nation's fallen on Anzac Day, royalty joined the commemorations in London with the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Gloucester attending a Dawn Service in the British capital An accused drug trafficker, who has been jailed twice in the past decade for manufacturing methamphetamine, has been refused bail despite claiming he was in pain because of a tooth infection. Stargazers were treated to an amazing natural light show as the Aurora Australis lit up the sky. Chronic flight staff shortages have been blamed for dramatic cuts by Rex Airlines to regional routes across South Australia. Defence Minister Andrew Little is in Gallipoli for Anzac Day. It's been 108 years since the ANZAC corps landed during the First World War. Of the 17-thousand Kiwi soldiers who fought, about five thousand were wounded and almost two-thousand-700 never came home. Little will attend the Dawn Service and New Zealand National Service. Hundreds of small towns and communities around the country are putting the final touches to Anzac Day events tomorrow. While the big events in large towns and cities attract attention, it was small communities which suffered some of the biggest losses in both world wars. Buddy Mikaere is a veteran and organiser of the Dawn Service at Pāpāmoa Beach - the second year the event has been held on the idyllic beach He spoke to Corin Dann.
The Anzac Day Dawn service returns to Christchurch's Cathedral Square tomorrow, the first time since the 2011 earthquake. The service will take place near the newly-restored Citizens' War Memorial at 5.30am, where traditional veterans will parade up Worcestor Boulevard towards the Square. Christchurch Memorial RSA president, Dennis Mardle, spoke to Corin Dann.
Tuesday will see Anzac Day marked in full for the first time in three years, after Covid-19 disruptions. Big crowds are expected at local and national services, beginning with the traditional Dawn Service. RNZ will be broadcasting the service live from Wellington's National War Memorial just before 6am. From the trenches of the Western Front to the ricefields and jungles of South-east Asia, Australian women have served and doctors and medical specialists from World War I until the present day. Not For Glory is a book that tells their stories of adventure, courage, sacrifice and determination as they fought to serve their country… and won. Co-author, Susan Neuhaus joins us to share some of those stories ahead of Anzac Day. And in the Musical Pilgrimage, we hear a small snippet from South Australia's 2022 Dawn Service, lest we forget. Oh, and here's our index of all episode in one concise page Running Sheet: Not For Glory - Australian Women At War With Susan Neuhaus 00:00:00 Intro Introduction 00:00:00 SA Drink Of The Week No SA drink segment this week. 00:03:22 Susan Neuhaus As we approach Anzac Day 2023, I'm reminded of a review I wrote about the play, Hallowed Ground in 2019. In the play we get to meet a number of women who have served Australia, our allies, and humanity in various locations and situations in response to a deep calling to "do their part", do their service. The production by The Shift Theatre, was adapted from the book, Not For Glory, by South Australian army veteran and surgeon, Colonel Susan Neuhaus CSC (Retd) and Dr Sharon Mascall-Dare. I wrote back then that in light of this production and this book, I will certainly be recalling these women's stories as part of my emotional and historical journey every Anzac Day. And to prepare myself for this Anzac Day, and to share some extra insights with you, I have Susan Neuhaus with me now. This simplest link for finding Not For Glory is here: Australian Women At War bookshelf page. Susan, you spent 20 year5s in the military in both the Australian Regular Army and the Army Reserve as a clinician and a commander. You served in Cambodia, Bougainville and Afghanistan, and in 2009, you were awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross, followed in 2020 by being admitted as a Member of the Order of Australia for services to medicine. What compelled you to serve Australia in what is referred to as conflict medicine? How does medical work in the field differ from back in normal practice? In small business mentoring, I have found that often I end up playing the role of confidant and counsellor. Surely that must happen in the field to a much greater degree. Can you share an example? Are there any disciplines or procedures you learn in the military that make civilian life better (or worse)? I want to reflect on your awards because it connects directly to the title of your book, Not For Glory. When you and so many other service people join the military to "answer a call", how does one hold the notion of medals and awards, when that was not a part of one's motivation? What is so important about these women's stories, that has propelled you to go on the gruelling pathway of crafting a book? What impact would you like this book to have on readers and on the military itself? Can we look at some stories? Through what lens do you reflect on the current situation in Ukraine? 00:48:27 Musical Pilgrimage The most fitting music for this episode has been drawn from the 2022 Dawn Service at the South Australian War Memorial.Support the show: https://theadelaideshow.com.au/listen-or-download-the-podcast/adelaide-in-crowd/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Sermon Text - John 20.1-18 - by Pastor Dan Frey
This podcast is part of a powerful two-part series that explores the history of LGBTIQ+ military service in Australia, produced by award-winning podcast maker, Megan Spencer. It begins in 1982 with the unsuccessful attempt of five gay ex-servicemen to lay a wreath at the Shrine of Remembrance on Anzac Day, to honour their “fallen gay and lesbian brothers and sisters”. Forty years later, on ANZAC Day 2022, the story comes full circle with the annual Rainbow Wreath-laying service by DEFGLIS uniformed members and allies, in the Shrine's hallowed Sanctuary. In between these two landmark moments, the story of LGBTIQ+ service unfolds through the voices and lived experience of current and former ADF service members, pre- and post- the 1992 ban on “homosexual service” in Australia's military. The Power of the Wreath podcast accompanies the Shrine's new exhibition, Defending with Pride: Stories of LGBTQ+ service, on from August 1st 2022 - August 2023. A reminder you don't have to go to an Anzac service to commemorate the day. Thousands of New Zealanders across the country bundled up to attend Dawn services this morning, the first for many since the pandemic began. RSA national president BJ Clark told Tim Dower there are small cenotaphs in nearly all communities. “Grab your poppy and take it alone and, you know, a little period of reflection and lay your poppy at that cenotaph, that would be a wonderful tribute to those that've served.” LISTEN ABOVE

Sermon Text - Exodus 15.1-11 - by Pastor Dan Frey
Join us for our Dawn Service of Choral Eucharist streamed as LIVE at 6am on Easter Day, 17th April 2022 – one of the most evocative events in our yearly calendar (and if you are at church, includes egg-rolling and breakfast afterwards!). Download Order of Service (pdf) → https://bit.ly/3xteBvp This service marks the beginning of a day of celebration of the feast of Easter. It starts with an echo of the darkness and despair of Good Friday but quickly moves to an affirmation of the strength of God's love. The service begins at 6am in darkness as we sit in vigil and hear the record of how God saved his people in ages past. The congregation then moves to the West Door and a new flame is kindled from which the Easter Candle is lit. This new light of Christ is shared amongst the congregation who then return to the nave to hear the Exsultet, the great Easter song of praise. Light returns to the church, we reaffirm our faith and the first communion of Easter is celebrated. This as-live video is for those who cannot attend in person and features the same content heard in church with specially recorded readings, prayers and sermon, together with wonderful music from our extensive archive of live recordings of St Bride's Choir. If you enjoy listening, please Like the video, leave a comment below or subscribe to our channel. It is great to get your feedback.
