Today is World Creativity and Innovation Day! It’s a day to celebrate those brilliant, weird, and sometimes accidental ideas that completely change how we live, work, and play. Take the microwave oven, for example - or chopsticks. Stuff we use everyday that were invented by some creative soul with an idea, who had luck and happy accidents! Audrey and Ryan explore some of these essential daily items we use that were complete flukes. Continuing with World Creativity and Innovation Week The Maverick Paradox continues to mark the occasion with a discussion on innovation and ethical leadership from The Maverick Paradox's 6 Featured Columnists. The columnists are based in a number of countries and work asynchronous to each other. Therefore to hear the views of all the columnists we have created two short panels. In this Innovation and Ethical Leadership Panel, Judith Germain, Ben Baker and Jo Farmer discuss the interplay between the two concepts. Key Takeaways The group had an open discussion on ethics and leadership to highlight their different perspectives. According to Ben, there are no absolutes in ethics. Definitions depend on the individual/group. Leadership involves finding common ground. Jo emphasised autistic people have a strong sense of justice. Situations require understanding from both sides. Judith said alignment comes from organisational values. Leaders should examine if they fit. In this conversation differing definitions of ethics and leadership surfaced. Common ground lies in organisational values if reinforced regularly. Innovation arises from resolving lack of clarity through improved communication of those values. You can find out more about our guests and today's episode in this Maverick Paradox Magazine article here. You can also watch this panel on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niIpG8i6pdo --- Maverick leadership is all about thinking outside the box and challenging the status quo. It's about having the courage to take risks and the confidence to lead in a way that is authentic and genuine. But amplifying your influence as a leader isn't just about having a strong vision or a big personality. It's also about having the right leadership capability and being able to execute on your ideas and plans. The consequences of not having the right level of influence as a leader can be significant. The columnists are based in a number of countries and work asynchronous to each other. Therefore to hear the views of all the columnists we have created two short panels. This is the second panel and features Judith Germain who hosts, and is joined by Ben Baker and Jo Farmer. Key Takeaways Both Ben and Jo provided thoughtful perspectives on innovation from the lens of their expertise in communication and autism. Communication, authenticity, and understanding diverse perspectives are key for organisations to align teams and put values into action. In this conversation Ben explained that companies should understand their identity and purpose before innovating communication. Storytelling is key to inspire change by helping people understand why it benefits them and the company. However, stories must be simple, repeatable and valued by employees to be effective. Jo explained autistic brains see possibilities others miss due to thinking differently. Problem prevention is prioritised over problem-solving. Innovation lies in autistic voices being heard plainly rather than masked. Understanding different perspectives unlocks potential. Connecting diverse ideas sparks new innovations. Reframing the familiar catalyses creativity. Feeling Future Shocked? Got the certainty-addiction blues? This episode dives deep into the ever-shifting currents and consequences of work and innovation. Listen to AQ expert Ira S Wolfe and Michael Lee, a maestro of adaptability, creativity, and innovative thinking. Whether you're staring down the barrel of a job change, wrestling with the march of AI and automation, or simply seeking to thrive in our fast-paced world, this episode is your beacon. Here are eight tremendous takeaways you'll learn about the power of adaptability: “Future Shock” published over 50 years ago, warned us about the paralysis that comes with excessive change, and here we are, dealing with that reality as we look towards the future of employment. The tech tsunami is coming for sure. But remember, the 4th and 5th industrial revolutions are set to create more jobs than they wipe out. Ride the wave with adaptability, not get wiped out by it. The ability to adapt, or what we're calling the 'Adaptability Quotient,' will be an essential skill as we face technological changes that disrupt the job market. The greatest challenge for leaders in the future will be to manage not only their own adaptability but to nurture an environment that supports adaptability in their teams. Future-proof your psychology: Understand how acknowledging the Dunning-Kruger effect can lead to monumental personal growth. The mere thought of adaptability is scarier than the actual hustle of change. It's the boogeyman in the closet of our minds. Creativity is no lone wolf; it runs with a pack called ‘innovation and adaptability'. Together, they're the ultimate dream team for the future of work. Adaptability isn't just about grit; it's knowing when to pivot and how to roll with the punches. *** Michael Lee is the Creative Breakthrough Catalyst, a working creative professional who facilitates breakthroughs for leaders and their teams. Beyond creating jobs, attracting investment and supporting innovation, the creative economy also helps to promote cultural identity and diversity. Based on latest Torrance test data, 85% of today's children are less creative than their 1980s counterparts. CPG industry veterans Erin Fasano and Liz Seelye realized that part of the problem is old thinking when it comes to what kids eat and drink. They started dreaming up drinks and snacks with their kids to bring imagination back to lunchboxes and beyond and together founded Starryside. Their first product is organic, immunity-boosting Star Water in an adventure-ready, kid-sized can. Their big launch is coming up this week during World Creativity & Innovation Week, which runs from April 15th to 21st. Listen in as Liz and Erin share the story behind Starryside, how their background with some of the largest CPG brands informs their work, the process of getting to a minimum viable product including flavor development and finding a manufacturing partner, how they maximized Expo West and the Startup CPG Alley Rally, how their kids inspire them and participate in the growth of Starryside, and more! If you innovated for 3.8 billion years, how creative would you be? Very! So it is with nature. Innovation is just what it has been doing since the beginning of time: designing processes and systems and figuring out other ways to survive. From the beginning, humans have looked to nature for new ideas. Leonardo da Vinci of the Renaissance, for example, watched flying birds for hours. From them, he learned and replicated aerodynamic principles and built gliders, a helicopter and other flying machines. da Vinci's technique is still useful as people solve complex problems. Today, it is called “biomimcry” - a creative practice of observing and copying nature. The tool is used by innovators in businesses, medicine, organizations, transportation, technology and more. The Center for Creative Solutions, Inc., a local non-profit organization, sponsors two annual events, northwest Indiana's celebration of World Creativity and Innovation Week in April and the Innovation Forum in the fall. In addition, it offers other programming throughout the year. To learn more call 219-326-7259, email creativity52@comcast.net, or visit CenterforCreativeSolutions.com. • Cynthia Hedge, co-founder and CEO of the Center. An attorney, she is also a trainer, facilitator and consultant to non-profit organizations, businesses, government agencies, schools, professionals and individuals. • Keri Marrs Barrón, a creativity consultant, trainer, facilitator and works with the Center for Creative Solutions on special projects and serves on its Board. Like Hedge, she has a masters degree from the International Center for Studies in Creativity and Change Leadership in New York (SUNY). Her other Purdue University degrees are in biology.

It's world creativity day so I want to see you use this as an opportunity to start training that muscle. You see. OK, not everyone can film or draw stuff for their content, but, you can come up with great ideas. Not at first perhaps but creativity is like a muscle, the more you use it the stronger the ideas become. Keep pushing yourself to put content out, and stop worrying about perfection. The creativity will come. Pat Moffett has a heartwarming and fascinating story to tell about early-onset Alzheimers disease and how in some cases, it can result in a shocking level of violence. Pat's wife was struck by this ailment and the formerly peaceful, gentle lady became sporadically but persistently violent and aggressive, to the shock and dismay of Pat, their children and all of their friends and family. In order to raise awareness of Alzheimers for the benefit of family members and primary caregivers, Pat wrote the book Ice Cream in the Cupboard, which later became a film. It's an excellent film well worth watching and can be seen on Amazon Prime. In a wide ranging conversation, Pat and I discuss: • Alzheimers caregiving• Independent Film Production• Caring for the Caregiver• Early-Onset Alzheimers• Writing Ice Cream In the Cupboard - Book and MoviePat is going to be speaking at the World Creativity and Innovation Week event. This week, we decided that instead of an interview we wanted to post two of the breakout sessions from last year’s summit. In this podcast, we hear from Patrick Langrell about the Catholic creative’s response to the state of the modern world and from Joe Marshall about how artists are called to rise to challenges in the workplace with creativity. Patrick speaks about the world’s political, cultural, and religious states and how we are called to bring radical truth and beauty to the present moment to redeem our culture. Then Joe explains how in business, we are constantly faced with challenges, obstacles and problems we need to solve. He examines what creativity looks like in the business unit, and he gives examples of how constraints accidentally produced some of the most beautiful works of art and business.
