It's two more draws against Real Salt Lake making it six draws in a row against those Salty Banana Chips (credit: The Loony Bin Junior). But this time, in the MLS Cup Playoffs, both games go to penalty kicks and the Loons advance to the Western Conference Semifinal against the LA Galaxy. Their victories come on the back of Dayne St. Claire's PK saves (and RSL's misses) and a team of shooters who make 8 out of 10 shots. Now we wait three weeks for the Loon's next playoff game. The Seattle Sounders didn't play but that didn't stop us from laying down some more coverage of Leagues Cup 2024. We react to the latest slate of group-stage matches, which included some more positive results for MLS clubs over Liga MX, with an unlikely hero emerging in the form of Austin FC.Elsewhere, Dayne St. Clair went God mode again for Minnesota United, LAFC took a comedic defeat to the Vancouver Whitecaps and the Columbus Crew traded for a player that we realized mid-pod could have been a great pickup for the Seattle Sounders. We also touch on Sounders season ticket renewal pricing and the debacle it has started. Support the show by subscribing to Sounder at Heart and get 1 FREE month! Carl Lewis and football writer Zach Lowy discuss players to watch in Group F of the World Cup in Qatar. Group F contains two sides who enjoyed good 2018 World Cup campaigns in Belgium – who finished third – and Croatia, who were ultimately beaten finalists. Canada are making only their second World Cup appearance, while Morocco have qualified for their second World Cup in a row. Belgium World ranking: 2 Coach: Roberto Martínez Confirmed 26-man squad:Koen Casteels (Wolfsburg), Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid), Simon Mignolet (Club Brugge), Toby Alderweireld (Royal Antwerp), Zeno Debast (Anderlecht), Leander Dendoncker (Wolves), Wout Faes (Leicester City), Arthur Theate (Stade Rennes), Jan Vertonghen (Anderlecht), Yannick Carrasco (Atletico Madrid), Timothy Castagne (Leicester City), Thorgan Hazard (Borussia Dortmund), Thomas Meunier (Borussia Dortmund), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Amadou Onana (Everton), Youri Tielemans (Leicester City), Hans Vanaken (Club Brugge), Axel Witsel (Atletico Madrid), Leandro Trossard (Brighton), Dries Mertens (Galatasaray), Lois Openda (Lens), Michy Batshuayi (Fenerbahce), Eden Hazard (Real Madrid), Jeremy Doku (Stade Rennes), Charles De Ketelaere (AC Milan), Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan) The Red Devils landed a cushy-looking draw as they look to better their third-place finish in 2018. Martinez has a number of young players coming through, Everton's Onana among them, but Belgium look set to retain an experienced first XI. Canada World ranking: 41 Coach: John Herdman Confirmed 26-man squad: Milan Borjan (Red Star Belgrade), James Pantemis (CF Montreal), Dayne St. Clair (Minnesota United), Sam Adekugbe (Hatayspor), Derek Cornelius (Vancouver Whitecaps – Panetolikos), Alistair Johnston (CF Montreal), Richie Laryea (Nottingham Forest), Kamal Miller (CF Montreal), Steven Vitoria (Chaves), Joel Waterman (CF Montreal), Stephen Eustaquio (FC Porto), Liam Fraser (Deinze), Atiba Hutchinson (Besiktas), Mark-Anthony Kaye (Toronto FC), Ismael Kone (CF Montreal), Jonathan Osorio (Toronto FC), Samuel Piette (CF Montreal), David Wotherspoon (St. Johnstone), Tajon Buchanan (Club Brugge), Lucas Cavallini (Vancouver Whitecaps), Jonathan David (Lille), Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), Junior Hoillett (Reading), Cyle Larin (Club Brugge), Liam Miller (FC Basel), Ike Ugbo (Troyes). Herdman's biggest concern, one of the things “keeping him awake at night”, was the fitness of captain Atiba Hutchinson, Canada's most-capped player, who missed the friendlies due to a bone bruise suffered in pre-season with Besiktas. Croatia World ranking: 12 Coach: Zlatko Dalic Confirmed 26-man squad:Dominik Livakovic (Dinamo Zagreb), Ivica Ivusic (Osijek), Ivo Grbic (Atletico Madrid), Domagoj Vida (AEK Athens), Dejan Lovren (Zenit Saint Petersburg), Borna Barisic (Rangers), Josip Juranovic (Celtic), Josko Gvardiol (RB Leipzig), Borna Sosa (Stuttgart), Josip Stanisic (Bayern Munich), Martin Erlic (Sassuolo), Josip Sutalo (Dinamo Zagreb), Luka Modric (Real Madrid), Mateo Kovacic (Chelsea), Marcelo Brozovic (Inter Milan) Mario Pasalaic (Atalanta), Nikola Vlasic (Torino), Lovro Majer (Rennes), Kristijan Jakic (Eintracht Frankfurt), Luka Sucic (Red Bull Salzburg), Ivan Perisic (Tottenham), Andrej Kramaric (Hoffenheim), Bruno Petkovic (Dinamo Zagreb), Mislav Orsic (Dinamo Zagreb), Ante Budimir (Osasuna), Marko Livaja (Hajduk Split) Dalic is likely to pick a familiar-looking XI, with Modric, Kovacic, Brozovic, Perisic and Lovren all still key players for the 2018 runners-up. Kovacic and Perisic have been joined by Old Firm rivals Barisic and Juranovic as British-based representatives. Morocco World ranking: 22 Coach: Walid Regragui Confirmed 26-man squad: Yassine Bounou (Sevilla), Munir El Kajoui (Al Wehda), Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti (Wydad Casablanca), Achraf Hakimi (PSG), Noussair Mazraoui (Bayern Munich), Nayef Aguerd (West Ham), Romain Saiss (Besiktas), Achraf Dari (Brest), Badr Benoun (Qatar SC), Yahia Attiyat Allah (Wydad Casablanca), Jawad El Yamiq (Real Valladolid), Sofyan Amrabat (Fiorentina), Azzedine Ounahi (Angers), Belil El Khanouss (Genk), Abdelhamid Sabiri (Sampdoria), Ilias Chair (QPR), Selim Amallah (Standard Liege), Yahya Jabrane (Wydad Casablanca), Amine Harit (Marseille), Hakim Ziyech (Chelsea), Zakaria Aboukhlal (Toulouse), Walid Cheddira (Bari), Sofiane Boufal (Angers), Youssef En-Nesyri (Sevilla), Abde Ezzalzouli (Osasuna), Abderrazak Hamdallah (Al-Ittihad) The second-best team in Africa, according to FIFA rankings, will face two of 2018 semi-finalists in Qatar. Morocco look strong in the full-back areas, with Mazraoui and Hakimi, while Regragui has plenty of options up front to supplement a forward line likely to consist of Ziyech, Boufal and En-Nesyri.

Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast presented by Macey's Sports! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to dive into all things Vancouver Whitecaps after a big weekend for the club. To begin, they look back at the club's most recent game, a big 1-0 victory over league-leaders, LAFC, in which a late, late Andrés Cubas winner allowed them to bring home all 3 points. From Cubas's strong play, to continued solid performances from the likes of Marcus Godinho, Ryan Raposo and Ryan Gauld, along with some key tactical adjustments from Vanni Sartini, they take a look at how the 'Caps were able to pull off such a result in that one. Now the hottest team in MLS, the 'Caps have continued to find a way to get the job done as of late, and they try and wrap their heads around how that has happened. After, they switch gears to talk about the 'Caps next game, a clash against Minnesota United, with whom Vancouver shares an identical record with. From the red-hot form of Emmanuel Reynoso, to the underrated work of Dayne St.Clair, they see what's been fuelling the Loons so far this year. Lastly, they take a quick look at whatever is going on over in Toronto, where the Italian resurgence continued this week, keeping a close eye on the 'Caps 2022 Canadian Championship final opponents. Make sure to check out The Third Sub Podcast on Twitter, @thirdsubpod, as well as on Instagram, @thethirdsub. You can find Macey's Sports on Twitter @SportsMaceys, and on Instagram @maceyssports.
Introduction: Host Michael Rand takes note of the overwhelmingly positive 6-2 final result for the Wild on Wednesday as it evened its playoff series against St. Louis at 1-1. Kirill Kaprizov had a hat trick, Marc-Andre Fleury showed why he is a battle-tested future Hall of Famer and the team in general cashed in on chances. But St. Louis also had more shots, more hits and arguably the better of the play. And the Wild still gave up five power plays (and one goal on the man advantage). Minnesota will need to tighten up its game going forward even after this result. 9:00: Minnesota United goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair joins the show to talk about his early-season success, his Canada pride and his surprising skill outside of soccer. 22:00: Would you pay $20 a month for Bally Sports North? That will be an option soon for standalone customers. Plus the secret Vikings edge this season and another rough start from Twins pitcher Dylan Bundy.
Week 9 of the MLS season is upon us, and a familiar face pays a visit to the Banc. Tyler Miller, no longer the starter, and his Minnesota United FC join us for Sunday services at the Cathedral of the Black and Gold. As the Loons would soon find out, good things come to those who sub in late! LAFC win an exciting affair, 2-0, behind two more goals from substitutes and staunch back line play. Looking to continue the weekend-long party that ACFC kicked off on Friday, LAFC forced several tough saves from the former Forward Madison 'Mingo, Dayne St. Clair in the first half, but the best chance of the first 45' came from Finnish forward Robin Lod. Crepeau made his only save of the half (and the match), and we head to the locker 0-0. Just past the hour mark, Dolo called on his bench to provide the heroics, as he inserted Moose and Cifu into the drama for Latif and Mahala. Ten minutes later, Ryan Hollingshead came on, and the chess match was almost complete. In the 82nd minute, Hollingshead gets on the end of a cross and a deflection for his third of the season to put LAFC up one. In the 90th, Cifu clips the Loons' wings, as Chiqui receives an unreal pass from Pancho before finding his fellow countryman to put LAFC up, up, and away, 2-0. Also on this episode, Filly has the hiccups. And heartburn. And a little indigestion. But really, you could barely tell. The boys cross off a huge bucket list item as well as another 14+ hour day at the Banc, LAFC kicks off AAPI Heritage Month, and Kevin Baxter remains silent. We're just 10 episodes away from our second century, and we couldn't have gotten this close without all the support from the millions who are a part of Defenders Nation! Thank you, and see you in just a week or so for Episode 191!
