This episode of Diversity Dialogues, a production of the NYS Court System's Office of Diversity and Inclusion, is a story of two young people from Poland who met in a displaced persons camp after World War II, found a way to emigrate to America, built a successful business, and raised two daughters who carry their memories, and to some extent, their trauma. One of those daughters is Joan Levenson, principal law clerk to the Hon. Deborah Kaplan and counsel to the New York State Judicial Committee on Elder Justice. Jenn Owens, host of the podcast, My Streaming Bubble, is our guest this week to talk about the soundtrack to the Henry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan 1998 film, Can't Hardly Wait. While the film didn't do huge numbers at the box office office upon its release, it is a movie that has grown in popularity over the years. Before her first feature I Used to Be Funny rolls out to theaters across North America this Friday, June 7th, writer and director Ally Pankiw (Schitt's Creek, Black Mirror, Terrific Women, Feel Good) takes a moment to celebrate the candy-colored act of subversion that is Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont's Josie and the Pussycats. Your genial host Norm Wilner has been waiting years for this.
According to alarming statistics from the CDC, Black women in the US face a stark reality: they are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than their White counterparts. In New York City, the situation is even more dire with the mortality risk rising to nine times more likely for Black women than for White women. But why? On this episode of the Making Public Health Personal podcast, join host Laura Meoli-Ferrigon and guests Dr. Deborah Kaplan and Tonya Lewis Lee as they unpack the systemic factors contributing to these disparities and explore what can be done to address them. Dr. Deborah Kaplan brings to the discussion over four decades of expertise in public health, particularly focusing on maternal, infant, sexual, and reproductive health. As a fierce advocate for racial and gender equity in perinatal outcomes, Dr. Kaplan sheds light on the urgent need to dismantle structural barriers that perpetuate health inequities among communities of color. From her role as Assistant Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to her current endeavors at CUNY SPH, Dr. Kaplan is not just an ally but a fighter in the pursuit of reproductive justice. We discuss important issues ranging from bodily autonomy to the impact of global conflicts on women and children. Gain helpful insights on how to think globally and act locally in our pursuit of maternal health, reproductive rights, and justice. We are also joined by the multi-talented Tonya Lewis Lee, an award-winning filmmaker, author, and entrepreneur. Tonya shares insights from her groundbreaking documentary, AFTERSHOCK, which confronts the US maternal mortality crisis. Through powerful storytelling, this film underscores the importance of amplifying marginalized voices and advocating for systemic change. From discussing the history of reproductive justice to emphasizing the importance of recognizing pregnant people, not just women, Tonya inspires us to utilize our own unique talents to create change. Chris Bailey X3 and Mark Radulich present their The Flintstones and The Flintstones Viva Rock Vegas Review. The Flintstones is a 1994 American family comedy film directed by Brian Levant and written by Tom S. The film stars John Goodman as Fred Flintstone, Rick Moranis as Barney Rubble, Elizabeth Perkins as Wilma Flintstone, and Rosie O'Donnell as Betty Rubble, along with Kyle MacLachlan as Cliff Vandercave, a villainous executive-vice president of Fred's company, Halle Berry as Sharon Stone, his seductive secretary, and Elizabeth Taylor (in her final theatrical film appearance), as Pearl Slaghoople, Wilma's mother. The B-52's performed their version of the cartoon's theme song, playing cavemen versions of themselves as the BC-52's.The film, shot in California, was theatrically released on May 27, 1994. It received mostly negative reviews from critics but was a box office success grossing almost $342 million worldwide against a $46 million budget. A tie-in promotion with McDonald's was made to promote the film. The movie was originally acquired by New Line Cinema, but then sold to Universal Pictures.A prequel titled The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas was released in 2000. This episode was recorded back in early March 2022 before Freddy headed to Atlanta for One Fast Move. We've got 2001's Josie and the Pussycats starring Rachel Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson, and Tara Reid as the rockin' trio just waiting for their big break while playing huge gigs like the local bowling alley. Along for the ride, and playing their nastiness to the hilt, are Parker Posey and Alan Cumming as the record executives that pluck the girls from Riverdale obscurity and "help" them become pop superstars literally overnight. That's how the music business works, right? Written and Directed by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont (both from Can't Hardly Wait) serve up the dense satire on what happens when music and commerce collide. ENJOY! YES. The Back To The Blockbuster team takes it back to the class of 1998 by revisiting the late 90s teen classic, Can't Hardly Wait, for its 25th anniversary. No anniversary from the late 90s is complete without our boy Mark J. Parker from the Release Date Rewind podcast and that's why he's joining the team on this trip back to the last great high school party for the class of 98. Written and directed by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, the film stars Ethan Embry, Charlie Korsmo, Lauren Ambrose, Peter Facinelli, Seth Green, Jennifer Love Hewiit, and a slew of other actors from the teen movie movement that appear in very fun cameo roles. The story takes place at a high school graduation party and consists of interconnecting stories that result in various angsty developments. This is a first time watch for Jackson so he's approaching it from a very fresh perspective while Mark and Gaius look back on seeing the the film for the first time in 1998, its relevance at the time of its release, why it didn't turn into a big hit in theaters but ultimately became a huge cult favorite that still endures today. Music month concludes with 2001's Josie and the Pussycats! Ben, Bree, Kay, and Sam discuss Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont's cult classic comic adaptation. Co-written and directed by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, starring Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid, and Rosario Dawson, and featuring Alan Cumming, Parker Posey, Gabriel Mann, Paulo Costanzo, and Missi Pyle.
For better or worse, 1998's Can't Hardly Wait is a quintessential exhibit of 90s High School cinema. A movie with almost as much cringe as it has stars. Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont weave a magical story wherein Kenny Fisher gets the girl, Jenna Elfman gets the cab, and Amanda Beckett gets to stand up for herself, for like, at least a minute. And who knows, there's always a possibility of a sequel with less Smashmouth and F slurs.
We got the band back together and we are heading to Riverdale to discuss Josie and the Pussycats from Archie Comics. We cover a brief history of Archie Comics and Josie, the band's first appearance in the 1960s, the 2016 reboot, their role on Riverdale and especially the 2001 film which is much more satirical and meta you might remember. Plus Rob discusses his experience working on the Archie Comics Musical! We are joined by resident Josie expert and superfan Ethan from MakeMineAmalgam who literally watched the film every day for a year. Ep. 95 What if Josie and the Pussycats saved the world from being destroyed by teenagers turned into capitalist zombies? With Special Guest Ethan of MakeMineAmalgamEarth of an unknown designation as seen in the Josie & The Pussycats (2001) FilmWe take our first trip to Riverdale to cover everyone's favorite all girl band, Josie and the Pussycats! We share a quick background on Archie Comics and Josie co-creator Dan DiCarlo and how it is still a family business. Rob shares his experience working on the Archie Broadway Musical and how he played a small role in bringing current Archie mastermind Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa into Riverdale. We start off with early Josie in the 1960s before jumping ahead to discuss special guest Ethan from MakeMineAmalgam's favorite film, Josie and the Pussycats from 2001 starring Rachel Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson, Tara Reid, Alan Cumming, Gabriel Mann, Paulo Costanzo, Missi Pyle and Parker Posey and written and directed by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan (plus the great soundtrack by Adam Schlesinger, Adam Duritz, Jane Wiedlin, Anna Waronker, Babyface and more). In the very meta and satirical film, Josie and the Pusscats find themselves part of a global conspiracy to brainwash teens and turn them into consumerist zombies! We head back to comics with Josie's short lived revival in 2016 by Marguerite Bennett, Cameron DeOrdio, and Audrey Mok. We wrap up with some mixed reactions to an episode of Riverdale (directed by Robin Givens) that sees the return of the Pussycats. We also chat while Alexandra Cabot is the true start of the Josie-verse and could we possibly one day see a return of the Rachel Leigh Cook led version of the band. On today's episode, we're watching our figures for our new boyfrands, doing some amatuer detective work, and also heading out on a Hawaiian vacation, while we revisit the absolutely fever dream of a movie that is A Very Brady Sequel (1996). This movie was directed by Arlene Sanford, and written by Harry Elfont, Deborah Kaplan, James Berg and Stan ZimmermanThis movie stars Shelley Long (Outrageous Fortune, The Money Pit), Gary Cole (The West Wing, The Good Wife), and Tim Matheson (National Lampoon's Animal House, She's All That). We also have some great performances from Olivia Hack (Hey Arnold, Avatar: The Last Airbender), Christine Taylor (Campfire Tales, Zoolander), Jennifer Elise Cox (EDtv, Moesha) and Christopher Daniel Barnes (Spider-Man, The Little Mermaid). Included along with these folks are fun cameos from Rupaul, Rosie O' Donnell, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and John Hillerman. This movie was made out of the immense success of the first film, but in true sequel fashion, goes off the rails and dives into more of the camp/kitsch territory. This movie has a bit more of an edge to it, and really cranks up the over-the-top nature, but for some reason, this movie feels like a nice, warm blanket, and I will watch it at any time to get all the feels! Josie & The Pussycats is a musical comedy film released in 2001, based on the Archie Comics series and Hanna-Barbera cartoon of the same name. The film starred Rachael Leigh-Cook, Rosario Dawson, Tara Reid, Alan Cumming, and Parker Posey, and was directed by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan. The film followed the adventures of the eponymous band as they attempt to achieve and eventually navigate stardom, while a conspiracy involving subliminal messaging lurks in the backdrop. The film featured a soundtrack of original rock songs written by professional songwriters like Adam Schlesinger, Adam Duritz, and Anna Waronker, among others, and featured a vocal performance by Kay Hanley of the power pop band Letters To Cleo. Though not a hit upon its release, it has since gone on to become a cult favorite for its sharp satire of commercialism. On an all new Hell Is A Musical, Lilz and Scott are joined by Kendra Beltran, writer for Collider, MTV Geek, and Cartoon Brew, as well as the host of the podcast Crushgasm. The three of them take in a screening of Josie & The Pussycats, debate the secret genius behind the film, shower praise upon MVP Alan Cumming, and REALLY work on their pronunciation....with Lilz and Scott!
Host, Emily Bolt, chats with Writer, Director, and Mom - Deborah Kaplan. This episode embodies exactly what it is to be a working mom. It's full of honesty and humor as well as a lot of mom brain. Haha Enjoy the ride!
On today's episode, we're throwing our caps and gowns in the air and heading over to the big party after graduation, cruising in the car while listening to Barry Manilow, and getting locked in the bathroom with our distant childhood friend turned lover, while we revisit the absolutely 90s cult classic teen film, Can't Hardly Wait. This movie was written and directed by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan. This movie stars Ethan Embry (Defending Your Life, Empire Records), Jennifer Love Hewitt (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Party of Five), Peter Facinelli (Nurse Jackie, Twilight), Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under, Law and Order), Seth Green (Family Guy, Robot Chicken), and Charlie Korsmo (Hook, Dick Tracy). This movie also includes a bazillion other cameos from up-and-coming stars in Hollywood including Melissa Joan Hart, Jason Segal, and Selma Blair. This movie screams late 90s to the fullest, and is a true example of doing a lot with a smaller budget. This movie definitely paved the way for other teen films after it, and it's absolutely worth a watch for those who haven't seen it, and it's an enjoyable, quotable, romp for those who are very familiar with it.Intro/Outro Music: "Phantom Fun" by Jonathan BoyleShow E-Mail: cultcinemacircle@gmail.comFollow Cult Cinema Circle on Instagram, Twitter, and Letterboxd Hosted on Acast. In 2015, emerging filmmaker Chandler Levack joined your genial host Norm Wilner to talk about her love for Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont's 1998 coming-of-age film Can't Hardly Wait. Seven years later, Chandler's first feature I Like Movies is making its world premiere at TIFF -- and Norm has joined the festival as a programmer. Hey, I said Friday and it's still Friday in Hawaii... **This episode was recorded back in early March bedfore Freddy headed to Atlanta for One Fast Move.** We've got 2001's Josie and the Pussycats starring Rachel Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson, and Tara Reid as the rockin' trio just waiting for their big break while playing huge gigs like the local bowling alley. Anybody order a Love Burger?! Donny and Chelsea chat with the writer/director team of "Can't Hardly Wait," Harry Elfont & Deborah Kaplan about how the movie came to be and behind the scenes memories before Janine from @retr0avocado is back to recap the movie. Donny learns *quickly* that she and Chelsea are NOT fans of Preston. Donny reveals he was the Preston of his middle school, but by the end of the episode, he earns an honorary Women's Studies degree (but not an honorary vagina). They discuss post-graduation plans, being ditched (or ditching) friends before high school, and college breakups. Also, Dr. Bald (through Chelsea) ruins "Milo & Otis" forever and Janine randomly (but fatefully) has a Barry Mannilow story. Written and Directed by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan and starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ehtan Embry, Lauren Ambrose, Seth Green, Charlie Korsmo and Peter Facinelli. Also Banky discussed the fact that he had tried to pull off the Kenny Fisher look which likely preserved his virginity for years.

This week, we're comparing two movies that are not discussed together nearly enough. Both are cult classics about subliminal messages in the media and the evils of mindlessly conforming to the whims of a capitalist society. But, ya know, one does it with evil aliens hell-bent on world domination and the other does it with villainous record execs and early-00s pop-punk bops. It's John Carpenter’s sci-fi horror classic THEY LIVE (1988) and Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont’s musical comedy JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS (2001). From the evils of capitalism to the importance of accessorizing, this episode is totally jerkin. So put on your magic sunglasses and limited edition cat ear headphones and join us. And don’t pay any attention to that hidden track. Happily Ever Slasher is the best podcast ever. We came here to chew bubblegum and compare movies, and– well, you get the idea. I just had to know. Josie and the Pussycats is a 2001 musical comedy based on the comics and Hanna-Barbera cartoon of the same name. It was made by Pennsylvania-born writing and directing team Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, and stars Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid, and Rosario Dawson as the Pussycats, with Alan Cumming, and Parker Posey as our villains. It also has government conspiracies, parodies the control corporations have over our culture and youth, and pokes fun at the formula of movies about rock bands. We discuss Leap Year, which is the love story of a woman who falls down a lot and a man who is near her. We answer the big questions, like; will Samantha still love it? Can you have a Romantic Comedy without romance and comedy? Who do the creators of this movie think less of, women or the Irish? Leap Year is a 2010 romantic comedy road film[5] directed by Anand Tucker and written by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan. Loosely based on I Know Where I'm Going!, the film stars Amy Adams and Matthew Goode. The film follows a real estate worker who heads to Ireland to ask her boyfriend to accept her wedding proposal on leap day, when tradition supposedly holds that men cannot refuse a woman's proposal for marriage. Her plans are interrupted by a series of events and are further complicated when she hires an Irish innkeeper to take her to her boyfriend in Dublin.[6] Principal photography took place in County Wicklow, Dublin, County Mayo, and County Galway, with filming taking place in and around the Aran Islands, Connemara, Temple Bar, Georgian Dublin, Wicklow National Park, and Olaf Street, Waterford. This week, Mark Harrison from Film Stories and VODzilla returns to the podcast to talk all things Josie and the Pussycats! Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont's Archie Comics-derived spoof was received poorly on its initial release - yikes - twenty years ago, but with Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina revitalising the source material and Framing Britney Spears turning the world's eyes back to the turn-of-the-millennium celebrity landscape, there's no better time to reconsider its beguiling mix of vicious industry satire and affectionate character comedy.Under consideration: the film's totally jerkin' soundtrack, the divergent future careers of the film's central trio of Rachel Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson and Tara Reid, the many reasons why it might have failed at the box office - including a Simpsons episode that coincidentally pre-empted one of its central gags - and the link between this film and Salman Rushdie that you never knew existed. In the spirit of this film's infamously blunt product placement, we're not hiding the fact that we're begging for money at Patreon - though we do give you plenty in return, including a monthly newsletter, a bonus Pop Screen episode and a whole exclusive extra podcast. Crooked Table Podcast - The world of film from a fresh angle
Over the years, Kai Yaniz has endured Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Room, and -- most infamously -- Cats. Now Rob finally makes time for our long-awaited Crooked Commentary of Can't Hardly Wait. The 1998 teen comedy was written and directed by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan. And it also happens to be the perfect encapsulation of the late 1990s. Join Kai, Rob, and an ensemble cast of up-and-coming young actors for one wild and crazy night. It's Can't Hardly Wait! SYNOPSIS School's out, and an entire graduating class -- from football stars and cool girls to complete nerds -- gathers at a wealthy classmate's home for a party. There, the artistic Preston (Ethan Embry) hopes to move in on Amanda (Jennifer Love Hewitt), the beauty he has admired from afar for years. Dorky William (Charlie Korsmo) schemes to pay back meathead Mike (Peter Facinelli) for years of bullying, and would-be rapper Kenny (Seth Green) gets locked in a room with snarky Denise (Lauren Ambrose). Joe returns alongside Caroline and Seb to cover the first (and still so far only) live-action movie based on an Archie Comics property: Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan’s 2001 satire on the music industry and consumerism, Josie and the Pussycats! We look at just how incredibly specific a piece of turn-of-the-century nostalgia this is, and try to figure out why it struggled so badly at the box office despite being a pretty sharp comedy with a great cast. Plus! Having watched and reviewed most of the first season of Stargirl, Caroline fills us in on what it’s like and gets some comics-specific answers from Seb.Cinematic Universe is supported by the generosity of our backers on Patreon, who also get to hear episodes ad-free along with bonus material! Ben and Tyler welcome you back as they discuss the soaring highs and subterranean lows of Tyler's guilty pleasures. Up first the fun cute and quirky underappreciated comedy Josie and the Pussycats (dir. Deborah Kaplan, Harry Elfont). Brenna and Joe return from their long recording sabbatical with bright eyes and cat ears. For the start of Book 2 (aka our second season) we wanted something fun and frothy, so what better to kick things off with than the tale of friendship, success and capitalism that is Josie And The Pussycats?! For the first time Joe & Brenna are covering two texts that don't speak to each other, as the 2001 film by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan was produced well before the Marguerite Bennett and Cameron Deordio scripted / Audrey Mok inked comic revival in 2016. We discuss why the metatextual humour is more successful in the film, how Josie (and by extension the entire Archie universe) is being sold as a mix of nostalgia and contemporary sensibilities and how the film bombed because it was too smart for adults (who claimed it was too dumb for teens). Deborah Kaplan P.G.& E. expects to cut off power when fire conditions are strong this year — it's a fire prevention measure. But the consequences for people who use electricity for ventilators, oxygen, and other disability life supports have not been taken seriously. These sustained power outages will have dire consequences if better preparations aren't made — as this letter of protest from Alameda Supervisor Keith Carson made plain over a year ago. Richard Skaff and Deborah Kaplan tell us what shut-offs will mean, how long they might last, how widespread they might be, how we may know they are coming and, most importantly, What We Can Do About It, both as individuals and as a community. Richard Skaff Richard Skaff is the Executive Director of Designing Accessible Communities, a member of the Coalition of Disability Access Professionals and retired from the San Francisco Mayor's Office on Disability. Deborah Kaplan is a bad ass. A true Hollywood veteran writer and director. And how cool! This is the 20th anniversary of “Can’t Hardly Wait”. I’m talking teen-cinema in all of it’s glory. So, what does it take to be able to tap into the teen zeitgeist of the time – decade after decade? Tune in and find out! With her partner Harry Elfont, Deborahcreated Liza On Demand starring the mega-talent Liza Koshy, on YouTube Originals and it’s totally brilliant. Last year I was hooked on MTV’s Mary and Jane about two Eagle Rock pot delivery girls - and oh, you’ll hear about producer Snoop Dogg’s preferred craft service spread of choice (you can smoke it). She’s a single mom, a working boss lady and my beautiful and aspirational expander. Deb is also the funniest person on IG and oh, she can cook like nobody’s biz. But that’s a side note. @deborahkaplan FRESH FROM IMDB where I do all my best stalking! It’s prob out dated and mostly wrong but you’ll get the idea. Writer/director Deborah Kaplan met partner, writer/director Harry Elfont, at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts' prestigious film school. In a strange coincidence, they discovered that their parents were friends and that they both attended neighboring high schools in Philadelphia. Kaplan had spent time abroad in high school at a film production program at Oxford University in England, UK. Kaplan relocated to Los Angeles and was working behind the scenes in the movie business. When Elfont headed to California after college, they joined forces and crafted "The Family Way", a romantic comedy that was purchased by Can't Hardly Wait (1998) producer Jenno Topping, during her stint at The Ladd Company. The writing duo continued working with Topping, writing A Very Brady Sequel(1996). Kaplan and Elfont also lent their talents as contributing writers to Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco (1996) and Jingle All the Way (1996). In her spare time, Kaplan enjoys kick-boxing, photography, and hiking with her Mongolian Ferret Hound. Can't Hardly Wait (1998) was both Kaplan and Elfont's directorial debut. Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 80, originally published in May 2013. Relationship expert and best-selling author, Dr. John Gray, joins Jason Hartman to talk about research studies and Dr. Gray's new work, “Boys to Men.” Dr. Gray talks about how his observations have been backed up by and further explained by brain studies, showing obvious differences between men and women in brain function and hormones that affect health and behavior. He offers a deeper explanation of these differences based on scientific research showing how activities particular to each gender, diet, and an increased existence of xenoestrogens in our environment play a significant role in hormonal balance and imbalance. Dr. Gray discusses the proper use of supplements and the dangers of pharmaceuticals. This leads into his new work regarding healthy male development and his upcoming new book, Boys to Men, a look at how boys have been affected by today's culture, showing a higher dropout rate than girls, lower comprehension, and higher instances of boredom and depression. The high carbohydrate diet we consume plays a big role in this trend, and he cites inflammation in the brain as one factor in decreased comprehension. He describes activities, diet and supplements that can alleviate inflammation and stress and bring about optimal health in both men and women. John Gray, Ph.D. is the best-selling relationship author of all time and the most trusted voice in relationships today. He is the author of 17 books, including The New York Times #1 Best-Selling Book of the last decade, MEN ARE FROM MARS, WOMEN ARE FROM VENUS. His 17 books have sold over 50 million copies in 50 different languages around the world. John is a leading internationally recognized expert in the fields of communication and relationships. His unique focus is assisting men and women in understanding, respecting and appreciating their differences. John's advice can be easily used to improve relationships at home and in the workplace. For more than 35 years, John Gray has conducted public and private seminars for thousands of participants. In his highly acclaimed books, videos and transformational seminars, John entertains and inspires audiences with practical communication techniques. John's purpose is to create a world where men and women understand, respect, appreciate and ultimately work together. Summit Entertainment (Lionsgate) has purchased the rights to John Gray's bestseller “Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus” with the intention of creating a feature film and TV series. Summit has hired Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan to adapt and direct the title into a romantic comedy, with BermanBraun's Lloyd Braun and Gail Berman producing. John Gray is a popular speaker on the national and international lecture circuit and often appears on television and radio programs to discuss his work. He has made guest appearances on such shows as Oprah, The Dr. Oz Show, Good Morning America, The Today Show, The CBS Morning Show, Live with Regis, Fox & Friends Weekend, Good Morning New York, Larry King Live, CNN and Company and many others. Allen, Becca, Deborah and Marc (whose friends call them The Freaks) have lived together for a long time, and over the years have developed a predilection for playing computer role-playing games as a group, even though said games usually assume solitaire play. In this episode, they trace their history together from Might and Magic 6 in the late 1990s through the recent Dragon Age: Inquisition. They describe how their gaming style has evolved from simple kibitzing to semi-organized group-play, with dedicated roles such as driver and FAQ checker. We examine what makes certain games more amenable to this approach, both in terms of play mechanics and narrative content. This episode was recorded a couple of days before the November 2016 elections in the U.S., the disheartening results of which contributed to the delay of its publication. Recorded with a single mic at a kitchen table, the sound is not the best. I shall endeavor to record more often and get better at it.
