Today I'm wicked happy to welcome hip-hop star, lyricist, comic scribe and good friend Esoteric to The Alden Report podcast. As a Boston based underground hip-hop artist, Esoteric is half of the hip hop duo 7L & Esoteric, a third of Czarface and is a member of underground hip-hop collectives Army of the Pharaohs and Demigodz. Along with 7L and Wu-Tang Clan member Inspectah Deck, Esoteric formed the hip hop supergroup Czarface in 2013 when they released their acclaimed debut studio album, Czarface. This album was followed by Every Hero Needs a Villain in 2015 and A Fistful of Peril in 2016, both of which were also praised by critics. In 2018, Czarface released a collaborative album with MF DOOM titled Czarface vs Metalface and their newest album Czarmagedon just recently dropped this year. We take an inside look into what it takes to make it in the world of hip hop over the last 20 years and we take a deep dive into Esoteric's approach to creating, merchandising and promoting the Czarface brand as well as his collaborations with some of the biggest names in hip hop and street art. The inspiring, endearing and somewhat surprising backstory of the creation of the Czarface brand is itself worth the listen. Lastly, we learn the fascinating story of how Esoteric got verified and received a blue checkmark on Instagram with the help of none other than the one and only Gary Vaynerchuk.Thank you very much to Esoteric for joining us this week on The Alden Report. For more information on Esoteric and Czarface, you can visit: https://www.czarface.com/ and follow him on Instagram at: @czarface_esoThank you to this episode's sponsor: Wicked Happy – Apparel To Make You SmileThe way we live our lives depends on our outlook. AC The PD - Mixtape #1 - You Know My Style: "Classics Of The Past, Present and Future!"This is the first A.C. The Program Director mixtape ever made to put on the market, released only on cassette originally late 1999 or 2000, then we decided to remaster it and re-release it on CD a few years later ... Enjoy! There is now over 2000 mixtapes and counting with a new mixtape every Monday Night Fresh on HipHopPhilosophy.com Radio ...I only mix music I never played before ...There is a whole world of great new music that the radio won't play ... I live to find and share it ...If you want to support HipHopPhilosophy.com, our email address at Paypal.com is programdirector@hotmail.com ... Venmo ID: hhpradio ... Cashapp: $acthepd1. Natural Elements - Bust MineThere is still lots of NE records that I can't find, and I'm always looking ... If you call yourself a HipHop fan and you don't know who Natural E is, you ain't HipHop ...2. People Under The Stairs - AssholeThose close to me know why I can relate to the song so much ... When I found this group's music, I was very disappointed in LA for not celebrating them early ... most well-known LA (so-called) HipHop Dj's (sucker Dj's) slept ... game players ... This ain't no game ...3. Vakill & J.U.I.C.E - Out The SpeakersJUICE on The PD's first mixtape release ... The dopest who can make good records and battle anybody ... But his LP's have mostly lackluster beats and he deserves better ...4. Onyx - Shout (RMX) This white label is still fresh ... Too bad they lost "IT" too, because they most definitely had "IT" once upon a time ... Now they work with toys and rap on wack beats 99% of the time... 5. Biggie Smalls - Party and Bullshit (RMX)The first Biggie song I ever heard ... He could have had a legendary album legacy like Gang Starr, but he and Puffy threw that away for pop money and fame ...6. D.O.C. - Portraits Of A Masterpiece When this record was new, I listened to it over and over till I memorized all of the lyrics, because it was difficult ... Extremely fresh rhymes from one of the freshest MC's ever ... And one of the saddest stories ... This is real west coast HipHop, not that bullshit those bubble-gum Rap dudes call 'west coast' ...7. Large Professor f/ B-1 - Put Yourself In My PlaceThis is that Xtra large funk!!! ... Fast or slow, that ultra-ghetto bboy funk ... Stop playing those played-out records, sucker DJ's ... Hollywood sucker Dj's with Looking At The Front door in their crate!8. Big Noyd - All ProMy favorite joint from his above average debut LP ... But shit! Why can't great talents like this keep up dope beats after they get in the door?9. Lone Catalysts - PoliticsJ.Sands and J.Rawls, not to be slept on ... One of those records people always ask "who's that?" when I play it ...10. Promoe - Off The RecordWhen I first mixed and released this mixtape only on cassette, before I remastered it, side one of the tape ran out and cut this song off ... So many people asked me to bring it back so it's only of only two records that appear on two different AC The PD mixtapes ...11. Ed O.G. & The Buldogs - I'll Rip You The original version of this mixtape had I'm Laughin here, but I replaced it with this slept-on gem, because I brought I'm Laughin back on #9 before I re-released this mixtape on CD ... This album is super slept-on! I miss the Ed OG of the early 90's, cuz Earbola has plagued his post-2000 era heavy ...12. J-SS - The Look Of LoveThis was a great song and record, for a minute, till the whole style was recycled over and over ... Even though I can't play the record anymore, it's still capable of sounding fresh when mixed among other still-fresh music ... Take note sucker Dj's!13. Kid Capri - You Know My Style -I brought this record back too, on #9, because at the time, I had no idea I would re-release this mixtape on CD ... But this is the title track for this mixtape, so I had to leave it on ...14. Ultramagnetic MC's (Kool Keith) - MC Champion -One of many super slept-on, forgotten, left out, missed joints from the all-time great Funk Your Head Up LP ... The album gets better with time ... Had to use just Keith's verse on this song though, because Ced Gee was obviously starting to lose "IT" on this album ...15. Biggie Smalls - Suicidal ThoughtsMy favorite Biggie record ever ... No wonder, it was the only Lord Finesse production on Ready To Die ... Too bad Biggie let a pop mogul ruin his potentially legendary album recording legacy ...16. Kool G Rap - Edge Of SanityEverybody's favorite rappers' favorite rapper ... Another super slept-on, under-played LP non-single joint ... After the Roots Of Evil album, Earbola has set in heavy on G Rap, one of the best ever... He lasted a LONG time before he lost his ear ...17. Mobb Deep and Tragedy - LA, LA I thought these dudes would never lose "IT" ... I was wrong, as usual ... lol ... But legendary none-the-less ...18. Louis Logic - FactotumThe song that made me a big fan ... Perfect production, direction, arrangement, cuts, sampling, everything! Lou was quite unhappy with us when when didn't like his later releases ... Earbola eats the soul ...19. Newark Anonymous Clik - Newark Shit -This song reminds me of my homey DJ 3rd Rail from SD ... and the old Spike Radio show we used to do once a month together with him back in the 2000 era ... HARDCORE!!!20. Maspyke - Far East Politics -Sadly Earbola got to this crew early, because they definitely had "IT" ... Wish them the best though, for real ...21. J Zone - Calamine Lotion I 22. J Zone - Calamine Lotion II #HipHopPhilosophy was the first to bring J Zone to LA for a show (... and Jedi Mind Tricks, MF Doom, Cormega, Demigodz, Count Bass D, Percee P, Dooley O, Ed OG, etc. ...) ...23. Let the Record Show, the crate-dug interview series in which artists discuss their favorite songs of all time as the tracks spin on vinyl, continues its second season today with Las Vegas rapper Dizzy Wright. Filmed on location at Dizzy’s newly opened, buzz-worthy Sin City street wear shop Still Movin’, Wright takes hosts Mike Pizzo and Warren Peace on a musical journey of his influences, as select cuts from his life’s soundtrack spin on vinyl. The episode comes as Dizzy makes his way back home to Las Vegas, closing out The Independent Grind tour with Tech N9ne this week. From reminiscing on his family’s connection to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony to watching his child be born to the sounds of Bob Marley, Wright reveals never-heard-before details about his life story, set to his favorite tracks of all time. Golden era hip-hop classics from 2Pac, Biggie, and Jay-Z are discussed, as are staples from the catalogs of Peter Tosh and Earth, Wind, & Fire. It all comes together in the end in a surprise reveal that we won’t spoil here. As an added bonus, Warren Peace tells his infamous Death Row-era DJ story when 2Pac smashed his Biggie records at Club 662. Dizzy’s appearance on Let the Record Show marks the thirteenth episode in the series and the ninth episode released this year, following each The Crystal Method, Atmosphere, Skyzoo, Troyboi, Blockhead, Chromeo’s Dave 1, Demigodz rapper Apathy and DJ A-Trak. Let the Record Show will continue in the coming weeks with new episodes featuring Bob James, Evidence, Flosstradamus, and Kurupt.

Divine also opens up on a topic he rarely, if ever, talks about - the life changing event that led him to Islam and how it completely morphed his creative output forever. On this spectacular seven hour broadcast we have: Necro launches into the Conspiracy Studios in style, delivering an epic and extreme two hour long interview. Sounding focused, driven and most of all thriving from life itself, hip hop's most dedicated independent artist never stalls as the Psychological Records' ghost train rumbles back onto the tracks for 2010/2011. As well as offering exclusive freestyles/live verses and exploring his up coming releases after "DIE!",including the 500 plus beats he has ready to record to, we candidly discuss sensitive topics close to Necro's heart. These include Eminem's apparent 'snubbing' of him, Rakim's opinions of his work, the relevance/hypocrisy of political rappers and so much more in one of the most in-depth yet never dry Necro interviews you will ever hear. WARNING! Not for those of a humorless disposition. Purchase "DIE!" today if you want Necro music tomorrow - http://www.necrohiphop.com/ Fresh off an Australian tour with Talib Kweli, Jean Grae joins us live from the studio where she's currently working on her new Eddie Izzard inspired album entitled Cake Or Death. Prepare to be entertained as the ever witty and passionate self proclaimed Jeanius reveals exclusive news on upcoming projects including albums with Nottz, M-Phazes and more. In addition we find out that her collaborative album with Blue Sky Black Death, The Evil Jeanius was an unauthorised project that was created in Baby Grande Records secrecy and to this day she hasn't heard the album. Further obscurity ensues when Jean speaks on stalker fans and Justin Biebers addiction of walking into doors. A must hear interview for fans of Jean Grae. Apathy is having fun right now and what better way to celebrate his success then to celebrate it with us. Riding high off the success of his group The Get Busy Committee’s debut "Uzi Does It" and last years "Wanna Snuggle", Apathy is a focused man. Simply put; Ap' refuses to lose. In this interview the former Atlantic Records signing conquers any spells of rain ahead in his career and discusses upcoming projects including his upcoming solo album "Honky Kong", a new Demigodz full length, collaborative project with Diabolic Sleeper Cell plus a follow up to "Uzi Does it". True to Apathy's roots in slaying the mic and wack rappers, he also speaks on his reason for getting at Asher Roth and Charles Hamilton on recent leak " We're Going To Kill You". Listen as an uncuffed and uncaged Apathy breaks free in what just might be one of his best interviews to date! Just Ice is the pioneer of hardcore. His legacy and ground-breaking contributions are vital yet frequently overlooked. Join us as we meet the man behind the classics and explore his new project with KRS-One, including a deep analysis of his working and personal relationship with The Teacha, from Kool & Deadly to his new EP/video with him, Kurtis Mantronix, the immortality of hip hop and more in a true blessing of an interview. Pugs Atomz and Grant Parks are about to deliver an album on June 1st, which embodies the phrase "fresh". They have the type of effortless, working chemistry, seldom seen within the remits of hip hop in 2010. We talk to the dynamic duo about production, internet bloggers and much more in a mere snapshot of these Picassos of hip hop. UK producer and hip hop pillar, Skitz, joins us to explain the full dynamics of his new album as well as an in depth analysis of the conflict between the music industry and the interest of the creative hip hop artist. As well as passing us two world exclusive tracks from his new album, Skitz conveys a confidence and reassurance regarding the future for UK urban music, which is as comforting as it is informative. AND THAT'S NOT ALL! Scorzayzee steps in to update the globe on the huge hive of creative activity flourishing within the Notts area of the UK.
