In part two of New Music Seminar MC Battle For World Supremacy, our last episode for season 2, we focus on the years; 1993 and 1994! I recount the stories I heard about 1993 with MF Grimm, Mad Skillz, and the '93 champion, Supernatural. As for '94, I explain how my writing for local Chicago publication The Flypaper, created a lane for me to have some “involvement” and a front-row seat to many of the key happenings at the seminar that year, including getting a chance to interview Bobbito Garcia, The Artifacts, Count Bass D, Hard 2 Obtain, Zev Love X, and Muddbones (Cage and Masai Bey) for an article in The Flypaper, which never came out, and ultimately inspired Caught In The Middle magazine, that I started planning with J-bird only weeks after the seminar. And, I share the memories of being at a showcase that had Indigenous Theory, Keith Murray, Rampage The Last Boy Scout, Notorious B.I.G, Craig Mack, and Original Flavor with Jay-Z. Episode 28 - I remember 1st hearing the name Dumbtron on a Mr. Lif song and just saying ‘wow…what a great name’….With roots in North Florida & Atlanta this duo features super producers, MC’s & DJ’s Paten Locke aka DJ Therapy (RIP) & Willie Evans Jr. who got started in the group Asamov along with Ja-One-Da & Basic, then eventually came together as a duo called Dumbtron. The Count discusses his life growing up playing in church bands, tells great stories about collaborating with MFDOOM, and being treated as a "guest" in hip-hop culture. CBD is full of life and ready to assert himself as one of the only members of his generation still making waves in the culture. Next up we have a special in-studio interview with Platurn & Edgewize, a DJ?MC duo with a new EP called Apatheater on Needle To The Groove Entertainment (full disclosure, Dave is a partner in the label). They took hip-hop back to the essence of dope beats and dope rhymes with no frills but a modern sensibility on the new project and we were happy to have them on. As you can imagine, it's very hard to promote a record in the current environment and we are happy to provide artists on our wavelength with the opportunity. With winter approaching rather swiftly, we sought out one of the finest DJs around to bring some warmth to your surroundings. We're pleased to introduce everyone to another vinyl addict, DJ Sezy! Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, Sezy has been addicted to vinyl ever since she discovered her father's jazz collection at age 7. Stylish in everything she does, Sezy spins an incredible set off deep house, future jazz and hip hop, usually with a sprinkling of classics and r&b to round out the sound. Currently residing in Philadelphia, Sezy has graced the stage along side of people such as King Britt, J-Live, Jneiro Jarel, Count Bass D, John Tejada & Tony Nwachukwu (formerly of Attica Blues). In October 2004, Sezy was one of 7 applicants from the USA to be chosen for the Red Bull Music Academy in Rome, Italy. After the amazing worldwide adventure, she returned to the States to partner up with Jneiro Jarel in a record label startup, Label Who?, which released their first LP in December 2004.
