In part two of New Music Seminar MC Battle For World Supremacy, our last episode for season 2, we focus on the years; 1993 and 1994! I recount the stories I heard about 1993 with MF Grimm, Mad Skillz, and the '93 champion, Supernatural. As for '94, I explain how my writing for local Chicago publication The Flypaper, created a lane for me to have some “involvement” and a front-row seat to many of the key happenings at the seminar that year, including getting a chance to interview Bobbito Garcia, The Artifacts, Count Bass D, Hard 2 Obtain, Zev Love X, and Muddbones (Cage and Masai Bey) for an article in The Flypaper, which never came out, and ultimately inspired Caught In The Middle magazine, that I started planning with J-bird only weeks after the seminar. And, I share the memories of being at a showcase that had Indigenous Theory, Keith Murray, Rampage The Last Boy Scout, Notorious B.I.G, Craig Mack, and Original Flavor with Jay-Z. Plus, some insight on the actual MC battle itself, which was won by Judgemental from Chicago, who I was in town with. It's an action-packed episode!! Episode 28 - I remember 1st hearing the name Dumbtron on a Mr. Lif song and just saying ‘wow…what a great name’….With roots in North Florida & Atlanta this duo features super producers, MC’s & DJ’s Paten Locke aka DJ Therapy (RIP) & Willie Evans Jr. who got started in the group Asamov along with Ja-One-Da & Basic, then eventually came together as a duo called Dumbtron. Some people are reading this saying “Who?”, while others are reading this saying “Hell Yes!!”…The 2000’s were different times for hip hop it’s not considered an “era” or anything close to the decade that preceded it but these guys held it down for the golden era… so many classic hip hop references in this mix from the re-flipped samples and choice cuts for hooks along with the subtle references to classic material applied in the most discrete ways…I also did some acapella blend remixes from a few OG’s in the middle for good measure.I had a chance to meet Paten Locke once, great guy, super humble, I told him I always wanted to hear an official Dumbtron album but it hasn’t happened yet maybe sometime in the future but I wanted to put together a mix with some of their solo and collective stuff featuring contributions from Diamond D, Dillon, Batsauce, Dres (Black Sheep), George Clinton, AZ, Mr. Lif, Akrobatik, Vinnie Paz, Supa Dave West, 9th Wonder, Count Bass D and other related joints off the Full Plate record label…special thanks to Willie Evans Jr & Dillon Vaughan Maurer for the drops and blessings….Make sure to search for these guys on bandcamp or any digital streaming service you use, there’s much more that what I put together here…One of the most criminally slept on crews in my opinion, they don’t get the credit they deserve..enjoy!01 - Dumbtron - Moose Python02 - Dumbtron - Stay Classy (Live Version)03 - Willie Evans Jr ft. This week on Super Duty Tough Work, we bring the second part of Blueprint's conversation with the "rapper with the most chords", none other than Count Bass D! Since the first part of our interview got so much love and we reviewed his new album "CBD" on last week's episode, it felt like the perfect time to drop the second half of this conversation. In this part of the conversation we break down mobility and how living different places has impacted his music, the business versus the art, spirituality, and balance! Let's go!

We are back with a double dose of DBRP. Our entire region of the Bay Area in California is under "shelter in place" orders so we do a quick check-in to see how people are passing the time and staying sane in these crazy times. Then we have a great and frankly inspiring interview with Count Bass D, whose debut album came out 25 years ago and his latest album CBD came out last week. The Count discusses his life growing up playing in church bands, tells great stories about collaborating with MFDOOM, and being treated as a "guest" in hip-hop culture. CBD is full of life and ready to assert himself as one of the only members of his generation still making waves in the culture.Next up we have a special in-studio interview with Platurn & Edgewize, a DJ/MC duo with a new EP called Apatheater on Needle To The Groove Entertainment (full disclosure, Dave is a partner in the label). They took hip-hop back to the essence of dope beats and dope rhymes with no frills but a modern sensibility on the new project and we were happy to have them on. As you can imagine, it's very hard to promote a record in the current environment and we are happy to provide artists on our wavelength with the opportunity. All beats on this episode except our theme song were produced by DJ Platurn! This show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.

The Program Director mixtape ever made to put on the market, released only on cassette originally late 1999 or 2000, then we decided to remaster it and re-release it on CD a few years later ... Enjoy! There is now over 2000 mixtapes and counting with a new mixtape every Monday Night Fresh on HipHopPhilosophy.com Radio ...I only mix music I never played before ...There is a whole world of great new music that the radio won't play ... I live to find and share it ...If you want to support HipHopPhilosophy.com, our email address at Paypal.com is programdirector@hotmail.com ... Venmo ID: hhpradio ... Cashapp: $acthepd1. Natural Elements - Bust MineThere is still lots of NE records that I can't find, and I'm always looking ... If you call yourself a HipHop fan and you don't know who Natural E is, you ain't HipHop ...2. People Under The Stairs - AssholeThose close to me know why I can relate to the song so much ... When I found this group's music, I was very disappointed in LA for not celebrating them early ... most well-known LA (so-called) HipHop Dj's (sucker Dj's) slept ... game players ... This ain't no game ...3. Vakill & J.U.I.C.E - Out The SpeakersJUICE on The PD's first mixtape release ... The dopest who can make good records and battle anybody ... But his LP's have mostly lackluster beats and he deserves better ...4. Onyx - Shout (RMX) This white label is still fresh ... Too bad they lost "IT" too, because they most definitely had "IT" once upon a time ... Now they work with toys and rap on wack beats 99% of the time... 5. Biggie Smalls - Party and Bullshit (RMX)The first Biggie song I ever heard ... He could have had a legendary album legacy like Gang Starr, but he and Puffy threw that away for pop money and fame ...6. D.O.C. - Portraits Of A Masterpiece When this record was new, I listened to it over and over till I memorized all of the lyrics, because it was difficult ... Extremely fresh rhymes from one of the freshest MC's ever ... And one of the saddest stories ... This is real west coast HipHop, not that bullshit those bubble-gum Rap dudes call 'west coast' ...7. Large Professor f/ B-1 - Put Yourself In My PlaceThis is that Xtra large funk!!! ... Fast or slow, that ultra-ghetto bboy funk ... Stop playing those played-out records, sucker DJ's ... Hollywood sucker Dj's with Looking At The Front door in their crate!8. Big Noyd - All ProMy favorite joint from his above average debut LP ... But shit! Why can't great talents like this keep up dope beats after they get in the door?9. Lone Catalysts - PoliticsJ.Sands and J.Rawls, not to be slept on ... One of those records people always ask "who's that?" when I play it ...10. Promoe - Off The RecordWhen I first mixed and released this mixtape only on cassette, before I remastered it, side one of the tape ran out and cut this song off ... So many people asked me to bring it back so it's only of only two records that appear on two different AC The PD mixtapes ...11. Ed O.G. & The Buldogs - I'll Rip You The original version of this mixtape had I'm Laughin here, but I replaced it with this slept-on gem, because I brought I'm Laughin back on #9 before I re-released this mixtape on CD ... This album is super slept-on! I miss the Ed OG of the early 90's, cuz Earbola has plagued his post-2000 era heavy ...12. J-SS - The Look Of LoveThis was a great song and record, for a minute, till the whole style was recycled over and over ... Even though I can't play the record anymore, it's still capable of sounding fresh when mixed among other still-fresh music ... Take note sucker Dj's!13. Kid Capri - You Know My Style -I brought this record back too, on #9, because at the time, I had no idea I would re-release this mixtape on CD ... But this is the title track for this mixtape, so I had to leave it on ...14. Ultramagnetic MC's (Kool Keith) - MC Champion -One of many super slept-on, forgotten, left out, missed joints from the all-time great Funk Your Head Up LP ... The album gets better with time ... Had to use just Keith's verse on this song though, because Ced Gee was obviously starting to lose "IT" on this album ...15. Biggie Smalls - Suicidal ThoughtsMy favorite Biggie record ever ... No wonder, it was the only Lord Finesse production on Ready To Die ... Too bad Biggie let a pop mogul ruin his potentially legendary album recording legacy ...16. Kool G Rap - Edge Of SanityEverybody's favorite rappers' favorite rapper ... Another super slept-on, under-played LP non-single joint ... After the Roots Of Evil album, Earbola has set in heavy on G Rap, one of the best ever... He lasted a LONG time before he lost his ear ...17. Mobb Deep and Tragedy - LA, LA I thought these dudes would never lose "IT" ... I was wrong, as usual ... lol ... But legendary none-the-less ...18. Louis Logic - FactotumThe song that made me a big fan ... Perfect production, direction, arrangement, cuts, sampling, everything! Lou was quite unhappy with us when when didn't like his later releases ... Earbola eats the soul ...19. Newark Anonymous Clik - Newark Shit -This song reminds me of my homey DJ 3rd Rail from SD ... and the old Spike Radio show we used to do once a month together with him back in the 2000 era ... HARDCORE!!!20. Maspyke - Far East Politics -Sadly Earbola got to this crew early, because they definitely had "IT" ... Wish them the best though, for real ...21. J Zone - Calamine Lotion I 22. J Zone - Calamine Lotion II #HipHopPhilosophy was the first to bring J Zone to LA for a show (... and Jedi Mind Tricks, MF Doom, Cormega, Demigodz, Count Bass D, Percee P, Dooley O, Ed OG, etc. ...) ...23. Lord Finesse - Baby You NastyFrom the OG vinyl Baby You Nasty 12" ...

BANG! @southernvangard #radio Ep 158! Hey there guys and gals, don’t worry your pretty little head - we’re back in effect this week after a 2 week hiatus! DJ Jon Doe was on the West Coast handling work biz, and we just didn’t have enough time to get together content to fill the gap - but ya’ll know the archive is extensive, right? 158 mix shows to date, over 100+ interviews…if you ever wake up one Tues or Thurs and there’s not some new content, just go back a few clicks and check out something you haven’t listened to yet. Anywho, we’re back with that raw this week as usual. There is so much new, good hip-hop out right now it’s damn near dizzying. No interview session this week as we circle the wagons after the short hiatus, we’ll be back next week with that twice a week silliness like we normally do. Elated to have Count Bass D on the 69th episode of our modest lil podcast - I quickly engaged with the Count's music when I discovered 'T-Boz Tried To Talk To Me' back in 1994 while DJing on college radio WUVT 90.7FM. That quickly lead me to his seminal, ahead-of-its-time debut 'Pre Life Crisis'. From that point, I have carefully tracked his career and have made great efforts to collect as much of his music as possible. No easy task as Count's catalog is rich with many fantastic projects/albums. In this talk we go as far back as his adolescence, playing in the church with his father, a traveling preacher. We talk DOOM, Egon, Chris Lowe, Shock G, DJ Pocket, Jon Doe and much more. This is a RARE long-form conversation with Count - so we hope you enjoy & please spread the word + subscribe! BANG! @southernvagard #radio keeps the hammer down with our Blueprint #interview #session ! This 90+ minute interview with Columbus, Ohio’s finest is oa doozy! We talk about his latest release, KING NO CROWN, the relentless show grind with Count Bass D last year, how he & Illogic get their cinema on for videos and the upcoming tour with Supastition this Spring/Summer. As always, we get into the early days - coming up in Columbus, meeting the MhZ cats such as Copywrite, Jakki, RJD2 and Camu Tao as well as Spitballz (RIP PRZM), and how he and the Weightless crew made that underground connect to NY via the Atoms Family and Cannibal Ox. You know we dug into that Rhymesayers lineage - Blueprint and crew were in the trenches with Slug, Eyedea, Abilities, Mr. Dibbs and the rest of the family as they conquered the Midwest and eventually the nation in the late 90s and early 2000s, and also dug into the formation of Blueprint & RJD2’s group Soul Position. For you business minded folks out there, Printmatic talks navigating the music industry today and how he is coming off his most successful year ever as a musician. Real music, real life, real stories, ya’ll - nothing more, nothing less. WEIGHTLESS.NET is the place to go for KING NO CROWN and more! // southernvangard.com // #hiphop #rap #DJ #mix #interviews #podcast #ATL #COLUMBUS #OHIO #MIDWEST #WORLDWIDE // Recorded live April 19, 2015 @ Dirty Blanket Studios, Marietta, GA southernvangard.com @southernvangard on @soundcloud @mixcloud twitter/IG: @jondoeatl @southernvangard @cappuccinomeeks

With winter approaching rather swiftly, we sought out one of the finest DJs around to bring some warmth to your surroundings. We're pleased to introduce everyone to another vinyl addict, DJ Sezy! Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, Sezy has been addicted to vinyl ever since she discovered her father's jazz collection at age 7. Stylish in everything she does, Sezy spins an incredible set off deep house, future jazz and hip hop, usually with a sprinkling of classics and r&b to round out the sound. Currently residing in Philadelphia, Sezy has graced the stage along side of people such as King Britt, J-Live, Jneiro Jarel, Count Bass D, John Tejada & Tony Nwachukwu (formerly of Attica Blues). In October 2004, Sezy was one of 7 applicants from the USA to be chosen for the Red Bull Music Academy in Rome, Italy. After the amazing worldwide adventure, she returned to the States to partner up with Jneiro Jarel in a record label startup, Label Who?, which released their first LP in December 2004. She is currently djing spot dates throughout Philly and the US, and working on music and film projects. Contact her at: heathersezyrahn@gmail.com . Tracklist below! 1.
