We talk briefly about the theatrical debut of his new horror movie, “Director's Cut” – but we will have him back on to talk more about that!  In this episode we focus mainly on his book, “Colombo: the Unsolved Murder” – and talk about his theories on the Colombo killing, organized crime in NYC, FBI / CIA involvement in conspiracies, COINTELPRO, working with Anthony Colombo on the book, Colombo's involvement with getting the movie “The Godfather” made, and more!  This episode will hit hard for fans of true crime and organized crime Mob / Mafia content!   From his bio: Don Capria is most known for his true crime biography, Colombo: the Unsolved Murder (2015) based on the life of mob icon Joe Colombo. In 2014, Don Capria wrote and directed his award winning short film, Eulogy, and shortly after returned to work in music as an artist manager. He continued to direct and produce music videos and other short form content. In 2019 he filmed the pilot for his scripted TV series, Abaddon, starring Erika Alexander. Danny Boy of House of Pain joins Scott this week for an in-depth, entertaining discussion. Danny is Executive Director of The Outsiders House Museum, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Founding member of House of Pain & La Coka Nostra. The conversation begins with some discussion of Danny's appearance in the recently released 'Kid90' documentary on Hulu. The documentary chronicles the behind the scenes life of kid star Soliel Moon Frye. Danny's relationship with Soliel and struggles with addiction are a part of the documentary. In this discussion he tells Scott his memories of their relationship as well as how they reconnected 20 years later by chance. In this chat, Danny shares the story of his upbringing, which was a difficult one. He was brought up around a broad range of music, specifically hip hop. He talks about the drug culture that was going on behind the scenes of the hip hop world.House of Pain enjoyed a huge wave of success but just as quickly, Danny got tied up in hard drugs. In this discussion he tells Scott about the choices he made and how those choices caused things to spin out of control. After getting sober, things began to turn up personally for Danny Boy. In the first 3 years of sobriety, he began getting things in order, putting out a solo album as well as forming strong business ties. However, internally, he had stopped doing the work needed and continued to struggle. He would eventually overcome addiction and put it behind him. It's an inspiring story. The movie 'The Outsiders' is very important to Danny. As a latchkey kid, it helped him through childhood. It had such an impact on him that he actually purchased the house from the movie and has written a book on his collection of memorabilia from the film. His story of finding the house, purchasing, and rebuilding it is incredible.Other topics touched on include touring with Cypress Hill, crimes before House of Pain, the staying power of 'Jump Around,' the early 90's resurrection of Hip Hop, getting fired from the Beastie Boys tour, the Judgement Night soundtrack, a love of early 80's pop culture, and much more!We hope you enjoy Scott's talk with Danny Boy of House of Pain and SHARE with a friend!

In my opinion, he's one of the best, most consistent rappers over the past fifteen years. From the streets of Boston to battling addiction and hitting rock bottom, the world had something better for him. From the formation of "La Coka Nostra" to literally being discovered in a newspaper article by Ben Affleck. He went from squatting in a warehouse to the big screen and touring the world over. You might have seen him alongside Ed Harris and Casey Affleck in "Gone Baby Gone", or Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner in "The Town", "Let Me Make You A Martyr", "Killing Them Softly" or several other movies. My guest on Episode 206 of The Brooklyn Blast Furnace podcast is George Carroll... better known as "Slaine". We were gonna do this episode face to face over a year ago but things came up, then geography, life and this virus came into play. I'm glad we were able to do this on the heels of his newest record, "The Things We Can't Forgive", which is one of, if not his best album to date. A super humble, nice guy. It was an honor to chop it up with him. I hope you enjoy this one. Respect.

How do we solve for the restoration and preservation of historical pop culture and literary landmarks? We speak with Danny Boy O’Connor—artist, designer, rapper, and founding member of House of Pain—about his drive to do just that with the cultural legacy of the famed 1983 Francis Ford Coppola film, The Outsiders. Danny joins us from Tulsa, Oklahoma where he created and oversees The Outsiders House Museum as executive director. The film is an iconic one, based on an equally iconic novel written by a fifteen-year-old girl, pen name S.E. Hinton. Think: “Stay gold, Ponyboy.” Its narrative centers on rival teen gangs, class conflict, and the mid-1960s “American outlaw as personified by the brat pack” (in Danny’s words). Danny first saw The Outsiders in theaters upon its release when he was a teenager. For Danny, the film was a “pivotal” moment and quintessential “coming of age film,” witnessed as he himself was coming of age. It gave him something to relate to, to feel represented by, to escape into, and to help cope with the pain of adolescence in a broken home. As an adult, he honors the impact the film had upon his life through cultural preservation. What started as a coincidental trip to filming locations in Tulsa during a La Coka Nostra tour turned into a now full-time pursuit to preserve film history. When the opportunity arose to purchase the house featured in the film, Danny jumped in to express his passion for pop culture history. His solution? Starting a museum through collective effort. The project started with completely rehabilitating the house, which had fallen into extensive disrepair. Realizing the enormity of the task, Danny reached out through online fundraising and over the course of three and a half years got the job done. And once the house was finished, it came time to fill it with film artifacts. He began with one poster, and has since amassed the largest S.E. Hinton and The Outsiders collection in the world. Past pop cultural moments are, according to Danny, “part and parcel of the making of us.” Both Hinton herself (who turned her academic struggles into widespread literary success) and the film’s characters offered Danny and countless other eighties teens a narrative that framed the underdog as the hero, that placed emphasis on the value in found family, and that gave hope to those with unlikely backgrounds. This is what Danny seeks to appreciate and share with others through his drive to open a crowdfunded, volunteer-run museum that educates and benefits its local community and beyond. Now, especially in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Danny recognizes the “warm fuzzy blanket” that nostalgic reflection and historical appreciation can offer in turbulent times. He looks forward to the day the museum can properly resume operations, but in order to do so outside support is needed to keep things rolling. To pitch in, visit the museum’s website here, where you can be included in the house itself by sponsoring a personalized engraved legacy brick.

BANG! @southernvangard #radio presents the PJ KATZ interview session! As you all very well know, upstate NY basically has the whole rap game in a choke hold at the moment - and no, we’re not talking about that silly rabbit type sh*t ya’ll - we talking about REAL RAP. So it’s no mistake we’re back there this week for an insightful chat with Albany-based producer, composer & writer, PJ Katz. This gentleman has a lot to be happy about in 2020, as he was the man behind the boards alongside J57 for a majority of the standout joints the brand new JAMO GANG album, “Walking With Lions”. If that ain’t enough he launched MORDELLA MUSIC LIBRARY at the top of this year, which provides authentic samples and compositions for the producer community. We got PJ on the horn as well as the homie J57 to talk about the making of the new Jamo Gang LP, why they owe EL GANT & DEEJAY ELEMENT everything for connecting the two of them and what it means to PJ to be a part of an album that includes the likes of RAS KASS, DJ PREMIER, SLUG of ATMOSPHERE, SID WILSON from SLIPKNOT, SICK JACKEN of PSYCHO REALM & SLAINE from LA COKA NOSTRA. We also get into some history goodness as PJ breaks down how his father’s penchant for jazz influenced him growing up, making pause tapes after he caught the hip-hop bug and how both of those things led him down the road of getting into production. For those that are interested in publishing, the business of original samples, compositions and the like - there are a ton of jewels inside - but you gotta press play to get ‘em. So hurry up little buddy, it’s on you - press play, lock in and listen up ‘cause you know it’s ALWAYS that #SmithsonianGrade #TwiceAWeek #WeAreTheGard // southernvangard.com // @southernvangard on #applepodcasts #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud #youtube // #hiphop #rap #undergroundhiphop #boombap #DJ #mix #interview #podcast #ATL #WORLDWIDE #RIPCOMBATJACK Recorded live May 11, 2020 @ Dirty Blanket Studios, Marietta, GA southernvangard.com @southernvangard on #applepodcasts #soundcloud #youtube #spotifypodcast #googlepodcasts #stitcherradio #mixcloud #SmithsonianGrade #TwiceAWeek #WeAreTheGard twitter/IG: @southernvangard @jondoeatl @cappuccinomeeks

After establishing his Grammy-nominated group, Danny found himself on a downward spiral dealing with addiction and despair, but was able to pivot and see the light by reaching sobriety.  Once again, he started another trendsetting group, called "La Coka Nostra".  While on tour in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Danny found himself discovering the main filming location/house from the classic movie, "The Outsiders" which gave him his next mission where he later purchased the house and turned into a museum honoring both the book and the movie.       To support Danny Boy and learn more about the Outsiders House Museum, follow the below listed social media accounts and related websites here:Instagram @theoutsidershouseTwitter @DannyBoy1968https://www.theoutsidershouse.comhttps://deltabravourbanexplorationteam.bigcartel.comThe Arm Bar Podcast and their guests are all fueled up prior to each show by a carnivore feast of the finest meats as provided by their generous sponsor "Luis' Butcher Shop" which is located at 9071 Imperial Highway, Downey, Calif 90242. Our very first guest on the show is Danny Boy, a rapper in both House of Pain and La Coka Nostra, as well as a founding member of the Delta Bravo Exploration Team. While achieving his success in the music industry, Danny struggled with and eventually overcame alcohol addiction. His “universe changed” when he got drunk for the first time at 14 years old, and he continued to drink from that point on. Although his initial vice was alcohol, at the height of House of Pain’s success, Danny turned to methamphetamines and speed. After realizing he was “sick and tired of being sick and tired”, Danny agreed to go to a daily meeting group for addicts. He became sober for several years, but after one drink on a night out, he again found himself in a dark hole of speed and alcohol. At his wit’s end and rock bottom, he was living in a warehouse - losing teeth, weight, and his mind. With Danny nearly at his breaking point, a friend coincidentally called him, and he finally made his way back to AA meetings. He then beat his addiction for a second time, and has now been sober for fourteen years. As Danny says, “If you don’t grow, you go”.

Today, a conversation with Danny Boy O’Connor, who went from 90s hip hop star to passionate preservationist, transforming The Outsiders House into a museum, and a point of pride for Tulsa. Then, City Editor Morgan Phillips steps up to the plate for an extra-sporty edition of What the What?So let’s talk, Tulsa. That’s the voice of Danny Boy O’Connor, savior of the now-revered “Outsiders” house once destined for demolition. He’s turning it into a pop culture museum centered on the 1983 film filmed here in Tulsa, as well as its inspiration: the book written by Tulsan S.E. Hinton when she was a 15-year-old student at Will Rogers High School. To Danny Boy (and now, to many others) the Outsiders house was always more than a movie set; the home, like the film, represented a simpler time, like the childhood summers he spent traveling from his home in Los Angeles to his native New Jersey. The hip-hop group House of Pain was comprised of Danny Boy and rappers Everlast and DJ Lethal. They released three albums in the 90s; their first, “Fine Malt Lyrics,” went multi-platinum. Fast-forward many years and several world tours later, and eventually House of Pain split up; Danny Boy later reunited with Everlast and DJ Lethal to form the group La Coka Nostra. And that brought Danny Boy to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2009.That moment sparked something in Danny. It eventually led him to create the Delta Bravo Urban Exploration, a team that finds and documents culturally relevant sites such as the shooting locations for films, TV, music videos and album covers. But his first love, his labor of love, is the Outsiders House, a representation of the film that so strongly affected him all those years ago. Danny Boy bought the house for $15,000 in 2015 and began the process of restoring the dilapidated property back to the iteration seen in “The Outsiders” film. Thanks so much for Listening to Tulsa Talks! He takes us way back to when he was a kid growing up in Rhode Island when he first discovered Hip Hop and how he became a DJ. A member of the Rock Steady Crew, Eclipse broke out being a member of Non Phixion after making a name for himself in his town by DJing parties. He takes us through all of that, La Coka Nostra, his history in radio from having "The Halftime Show", his company "Pay to Winn Management" all the way up to his show on Eminem's channel on Sirius Satellite Radio, Shade 45 with "Rap Is Outta Control" with DJ Riz. A lot of history with insight into his career and how he has over 30,000 records in every room in his house including the kitchen but not the bathroom. This was dope to do. Much respect to Eclipse! I sat down with the Cult Leader. ILL BILL. Founder of "Non Phixion", a member of "La Coka Nostra" and along with Vinnie Paz, he is one half of "Heavy Metal Kings". He invited me to his house in Brooklyn to have a conversation, which, he rarely does. So, for that, I'm thankful. We go way back to Canarsie, to 5714 Farrigut Road in the early 80's when he started listening to metal and hip hop in the Glenwood Projects. When he was in a death metal band, "Injustice", playing the "Battle of the Bands" at South Shore High School (which I attended as well) and playing at L'amour opening for bands like "Sepultura". From the beginning of the formation of "Non Phixion", his solo career, the birth of "La Coka Nostra" with Danny Boy, DJ Lethal, Everlast of "House of Pain", Slaine and Big Left. To working with DJ Muggs for the "Kill Devil Hills" record and the formation of "Heavy Metal Kings". There's a lot of history here leading up to his brand new record that he did with Stu-Bangas, "Cannibal Hulk". Sit back and study your lessons and enjoy this episode with ILL BILLY IDOL with a little cameo appearance from our old friend "Tommy Rebel". Respect.

We explore his recent departure from Limp Bizkit, historic moments in his long career and his desire to create a totally new sound/genre of music this forthcoming year. Epically long, this interview is a must listen for all lifelong fans of music.   Rising Compton rapper Problem joins us to discuss his latest EP "Understand Me", his goals of creating the best emotional music and body of work,  how he and his label mates at Diamond Music Group pride themselves on being real human's first and his upcoming debut. We also talk career milestones, his experience with Dr. Dre, ghostwriting for Snoop Dogg, soon to be released music with TDE , which is already in the can and more! Back from his 7-year hiatus, we talk to career risk taker Louis Logic and explore his self proclaimed confessional latest offering "Look On The Blight Side", why it remains his most elaborate project to date, a scrapped project with former friend and associate Hot Sugar, being signed to Fake Four and his development as an artist. We also touch on his previous issues with alcohol, working with Demigodz, almost signing to Def-Jux after "Sin-A-Matic" and more including the news that he's already started writing his next album. Wu-Tang affiliates Black Knights are with us to share updates on several releases including the much anticipated January slated release "Medieval Chamber”, which will find its vision executed sonically by none other than Rock and Roll hall of famer John Frusciante (Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Mars Volta), a full length project with RZA set for release on Soul Temple as well as 2 other albums with John Frusciante. In addition, we find time to reflect on their contributions to Wu-Tang's Killa Bee's "The Swarm" compilation and more. Joining us for the second time this year, Marco Polo walks us through the making of “Port Authority 2” explaining the process behind several of the albums joints including "Astonishing", "Earrings Off",  "Emergency Man", "Westcoast Love" and "R U Gonna Eat That?". He also reveals plans of taking a break from making albums in 2014, however confirms he’s produced 3 joints on the new Pharoahe Monch album, one of which will feature Black Thought, as well as forthcoming music with Sean Price and a future album with Masta Ace. Marking his debut UK radio interview, RhymeSayers Entertainment's latest signing Prof shares his enthusiasm and plans as an artist with the recent merge made between RSE and Stophouse Music Group. We talk character, creative freedom, consciously contradicting himself as much as possible as a way to not pigeonhole himself, unreleased music with Atmosphere's Slug and more! Recently relocated producer Endemic joins us for a brief interview to discuss his upcoming material, working with Immortal Technique and Lil Fame, mixing a record for Easy Mo Bee and of course his latest project “Terminal Illness Pt. 2”. AND THAT'S NOT ALL! Mista Montana and Menace remove their gloves to speak candidly on a series of key global issues including a dog with a panty fetish, spaniels in robes, supermarket pensioner fights and last but not least the discovery of a hybrid octupus/turkey animal. The result made for one of the shows most entertaining interviews to date and featured a VERY special guest appearance from none other than Riff Raff AKA Jodie Highroller. The two child-hood friends and long-time collaborators operated and ran their answers off an energy that can only be comparable to horse power in a fast-paced and genuinely fun interview! We talk making 'Horse Power' and the concept behind its cover art and songs such as 'Dope Spoons' and 'Michael Landan', their upcoming Man Bites Dog release 'Paper, Piff & Polo', the almighty and ever rising brand that is Surf School, production and loops, Action Bronson's future projects, the always entertaining Riff Raff's upcoming project, rumours of Harry Fraud working with UK boy band One Direction and Country Singer Taylor Swift and so much more!! Do you know what beloved classic 90's gangsta film Harry got the sample for Action Bronson's 'Bird On A Wire From'? Answers to Harry Fraud and Eddie B on Twitter with the hash tag #ConspiracyWorldwideRadio - Enjoy! Fresh off a flight, cultural icon Chuck Inglish joins us from his hotel to discuss the status of The Cool Kids and the stylistic difference's that he and Sir Michael Rocks reflect in each other's music today, as well as his forthcoming project 'Convertibles', which he reveals will boast features from TDE's Ab-Soul, Mac Miller, BJ The Chicago Kid and more! Among these topics we also talk; a recently formed crew with The Alchemist called The Thunderstorm, which he explains was inspired by a major L.A. street art exhibition, upcoming work with super producer Harry Fraud, Three Loco (Riff Raff, Dirt Nasty and Andy Milonakis), a placement on the ever-eccentric artist that is Riff-Raff's upcoming project, his ambitions to score music for films in the future, unreleased material with Kid Cudi, fighting with his cousin Boldy James, mushrooms having a role as part of his creative process and much more! Former pitbull in a skirt Eve unlocks her lips to discuss a gang of topics and promote her new album 'Liplock', her first album in over 10 years. We talk the politics that held her back from the consistency in which she was known for, the making of 'Lip-Lock' and some of its featured artists (Snoop Lion and Missy Elliot) and producers that mainly consist of "new names" in order to "give them a shot and chance". We also talk about her experience now living in the UK and how that experience has translated on 'Lip-Lock' versus projects prior with her residing in the states, her oft-overlooked work within charity and the new wave of female rappers that exist since her entry into the industry in 1998. Welcome back Eve. 2013 - a year in what many are already marking as the year of the dog, we discuss and take an insiders look into the rising powerhouse that everybody is talking about: Man Bites Dog Records! CEO Ryan Lynch and recently turned Vice president Roc-Marciano pass through to discuss this as well as Roc's upcoming project 'Marci Beacoup'. What ensues is a feature length discussion digging deep into the success of Man Bites Dog Records rise and current strategy for industry dominance. Both Ryan and Roc touch on an array of issues such as the modern A&R, what makes a solid demo in 2013, their means of seeking talent, disbelief from previous distributors earlier in MBD operation, industry respect and so much more! In addition; we talk Roc's highly anticipated Man Bites Dog debut release 'Marci Beacoup', a project which Roc promises will feature drums and appearances from Action Bronson, Freeway, Guilty Simpson, KA, Knowledge The Pirate and more! The biggest revelation however? His HEAVY INTEREST in pursuing a future reggae project! Man Bites Dog Records is here for the long run. Support this rising label! Live from the scene of the Boston bombings investigation, Slaine joins us on this show to discuss the impact of the tragic events from this week and mentions his general disbelief in the answers that the Government is providing. We then talk about his new album “The Boston Project”, reflecting upon his pride at bringing together 30 narrators from the Boston area for such a celebration of lyrical talent. Comparing this album to Dr Dre’s The Chronic, Slaine discusses the constant battle he fights to separate his artistic lifestyle from the true George Carol himself. Citing Ben Affleck, Ill Bill, La Coka Nostra and DJ Lethal as some of the key mentors in his life, Slaine takes time to inform us of his upcoming movie role where he will be playing the killer. Always as real as it gets.     Right now - capturing the sun in the UK just might be IMPOSSIBLE. However giving light to one of the best releases of 2013 is not! Long time collaborators Blockhead & Illogic recently released their first project together, namely, 'Capture The Sun' on Man Bites Dog Records, and what better way to celebrate its release and unmatched chemistry than to talk to them about it on our show?! Between touching on the projects title 'Capture The Sun' and its concept, we explore the albums creation in its maximum capacity before touching on the future, which will see Blockhead dropping full-length projects with Billy Woods, Open-Mike Eagle and Mark Spec, as well as an instrumental project that he reveals he will be starting as early as Summer. Don't let 'Capture The Sun' pass you by. Light up your life by supporting one of 2013's FINEST projects. High spirits! High Water!! HIGH FOCUS!!! Veteran Mr. Len makes his debut appearance on The Friday Night Live Show and leaves with a mark to remember: A CLASSIC interview in its purest definition. Promoting his latest release, 'Marvels of Yestertomorrow', the former member of Company Flow serves an insight into its creation unlike many artists of his generation - let alone this generation are able to offer. We discuss its creation , including its concept and songs such as 'Automated Love', the affects of commercial radio, changes in new technology, his appreciation for calculated sarcasm, Company Flow and the possibility of a reunion and some pretty incredible insight into what happened with the legendary Rawkus Records! A must hear interview. AND THAT’S NOT ALL! Mista Montana and Menace discuss a massive week of world news including eel-insertions, Thatcher death, Boston bombings and much more in an epic 7 hour live broadcast! Our commentary this week focused on the impact on public funeral service, recent media coverage and lessons that could be learned from the passing of music legend Michael Jackson (R.I.P.), the utter lack of media coverage of the arrest of a non-profit humanitarian organization members (including former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney) during a humanitarian mission to Gaza by the Isreali government during the 4th of July weekend and some other things here and there.
