Terry stayed in Pittsburgh for the rest of 1892 and all of 1893 before making just one appearance for them in 1894 and moving to the Cubs — then the Chicago Colts — and remaining there until one start, his final one, in 1897.Clinton also played in Brooklyn, with the 1872 Eckfords in the National Association. His other teams? The 1873 Elizabeth Resolutes, 1874-75 Brooklyn Atlantics, and 1876 National League Louisville Colonels. Then… nothing from 1877-81… before returning with the Worcester Ruby Legs in 1882 NL. Clinton wrapped up with four years in the American Association, three with the Orioles, one with the Cincinnati Red Stockings, and all four of his career home runs — in 1,822 plate appearances — came with Baltimore in 1884. MLB – Major League Baseball Last Night 2023 MLB All-Star Game – T-Mobile Park, Seattle National League 3, American League 2 National 3, American 2 – National League snaps All-Star Game losing streak, tops AL 3-2 behind Elias Díaz homer Elias Díaz hit a two-run homer off Félix Bautista in the eighth inning, and the National League snapped a nine-game losing streak in the All-Star Game with a 3-2 win over the American League. The NL won for the first time since an 8-0 victory in 2012 in Kansas City thanks to Díaz, a catcher who became the first Rockies player to win the All-Star MVP award. Díaz, who was non-tendered by the Pirates at the end of 2019, drove a 2-2 pitch from Baltimore’s hard-throwing closer deep to left to put the NL in front. Díaz was the lone representative for Colorado in his first All-Star Game appearance. Friday Chicago White Sox at Atlanta Braves, 7:20 p.m. Boston Red Sox at Chicago Cubs, 8:05 p.m. Detroit Tigers at Seattle Mariners, 10:10 p.m. MLB – Díaz becomes unlikely All-Star MVP, 3 ½ years after cut loose by Pirates Elias Díaz may be the most unlikely All-Star MVP. Just 3 1/2 years after Pittsburgh failed to offer a contract and allowed him to become a free agent, his go-ahead, two-run homer off Félix Bautista in the eighth inning lifted the National League over the American 3-2. A first-time All-Star at age 32, the Colorado catcher put his name on an award won by Willie Mays, Joe Morgan, Frank and Brooks Robinson, both Ken Griffeys and Mike Trout. Díaz says: “I honestly can’t believe that my name is going to be next to some of those names." MLB – White Sox slugger Luis Robert Jr. out of All-Star Game due to calf tightness Chicago White Sox slugger Luis Robert Jr. did not play in the All-Star Game after feeling tightness in his right calf during the Home Run Derby. The White Sox said that Robert underwent an MRI in Seattle and is listed as day-to-day. The team said Robert felt the tightness in the calf during the opening round and did not play in the All-Star Game as a precaution. Robert will be evaluated before the White Sox restart the season on Friday in Atlanta. Robert was the No. 1 seed in the Home Run Derby and beat Baltimore’s Adley Rutschman 28-27 in the opening round. Robert lost to Tampa Bay’s Randy Arozarena in the semifinals 35-22. MLB – Atlanta’s Truist Park and Chicago’s Wrigley Field under consideration for ASG The Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs are under consideration for upcoming All-Star Games. Next year’s game is scheduled for the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Field in Arlington, and the 2026 game will be at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park. The 2021 All-Star Game was awarded to Atlanta’s Truist Park by Major League Baseball in 2019 but in April 2021 was moved to Denver’s Coors Field following objections to sweeping changes to Georgia’s voting laws. Commissioner Rob Manfred says “Atlanta is in the mix of clubs for the ‘25 All-Star Game.” MLB – Manfred has no intention of altering Pete Rose’s lifetime ban from baseball Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has no intention of altering Pete Rose’s lifetime ban from baseball and said the sport’s commercial deals with gambling companies have no impact on the status of the career hits leader. Rose agreed to a lifetime ban in 1989 after an investigation found Rose placed numerous bets on the Cincinnati Reds to win from 1985-87 while playing for and managing the team. Manfred rejected Rose’s application in 2015. Manfred says: “Pete Rose violated what is sort of rule one in baseball, and the consequences of that are clear in the rule.” MLB – MLB open to consider increasing time on pitch clock in postseason Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred will consider increasing time on the pitch clock for the postseason but is reluctant to adjust an innovation the sport considers a great success. In the first season of the clock, the average time of a nine-inning game is 2:38, on track to be the fastest since 1984. It is down from 3:04 last year and 3:09 in 2021, the last season before PitchCom was introduced. Manfred says "we’re going to continue to talk to the players and adds: “I think you ought to play the postseason the way you play the regular season. WNBA’s Griner tells drug trial: ‘My career is my whole life’ WNBA star Brittney Griner testified at her drug possession trial in Russia that an interpreter translated only a fraction of what was said during questioning when she was detained at Moscow’s airport in February and officials told her to sign documents without giving an explanation. The testimony by Griner came on the same day that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Washington has offered a deal to Russia aimed at bringing home the WNBA star and another jailed American, Paul Whelan. Griner has been detained since mid-February after police said they found vape cartridges containing cannabis oil in her luggage. She has pleaded guilty to the charges. Olympics – US sprint great Allyson Felix joins IOC athletes’ commission American sprint great Allyson Felix and a refugee cyclist originally from Afghanistan have joined the International Olympic Committee’s athletes’ commission. Felix is a seven-time Olympic champion. She joins after winning her 14th career world championship title last week. Cyclist Masomah Ali Zada was born in Afghanistan and competed in the women’s cycling time trial on the IOC’s refugee Olympic team last year in Tokyo. The other two new members are two-time Olympic triathlon champion Alistair Brownlee of Britain and Oluseyi Smith of Canada. Olympics – Germany offers money to families of Olympic attack victims The German government has indicated it’s willing to pay further compensation to the families of 11 Israeli athletes killed at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich by a Palestinian group. Relatives of the athletes, however, call the proposed amount “insulting.” The families have long criticized how German authorities handled the attack and its aftermath. Demands for further compensation have threatened to overshadow a planned memorial event for the 50th anniversary of the massacre. Germany’s Interior Ministry said it was holding talks with the relatives and that the “serious consequences for the surviving dependents" should be reassessed. It was not clear how much money was being offered to the families.
