Today we are talking about another idea to help you get even more done, which is to Organize Your Office space. Plan your workspace, so you know where to find what you're looking for. Label your file folders, so they each have a specific purpose, keep your day planner close at hand to jot down notes, and appointments. Again, this holds true for your electronic folders and online calendar and task list. Many people today have 2 or more monitors to help them open what they need and are currently working on. I have seen one person who had 4 monitors and I personally think that is too many as it can lead to major distractions from what you need to be focused on. Tune in tomorrow for another way to get even more stuff done. If you get value from these Podcasts, please take a minute to leave me a short rating and review. Today we are talking about another idea to help you get even more done, which is to tame your “In basket”. Don't allow your desk to become a giant “In tray”. When new paperwork arrives, sort it into “Action” or “File” trays. Your “Action” tray can consist of tasks that require urgent attention and those that don't. Make a note in your day planner/master task list to follow-up on jobs that are not urgent, so you don't have them floating around in your head hoping you will remember to do them at some point in time. This is also true for things that are electronic and no longer paper. Have electronic file folders for what you need to work on, so you can easily open those folders when you need to and everything is there. Tune in tomorrow for another way to get even more stuff done. Today we are talking about another idea to help you get even more done, which is about necessities rather than neatness. Clearing your desk just to keep it neat can be risky. You need to keep the necessities required to get the job done close at hand, so tasks can be dealt with promptly. I'm not talking about having everything out that you want to work on. Get out all the items necessary for what you are currently working on. Then when that is done, get the next item out, and put what you don't need any longer away. Out of sight is typically a good policy to help you stay laser focused on what you need to be doing. Tune in tomorrow for another way to get even more stuff done. Today we are talking about another idea to help you get even more done, which is to pick up the pace. Work towards deliberately revving up a few gears. Attempt to work a bit faster, walk faster, talk faster and type faster without sacrificing quality. You don't want to get sloppy or make mistakes that you have to fix later. Most of us have a little higher gear that we can get in to more often, so move up to that gear. When you are laser focused, you are in a better position to rev up to your next gear. Today we are talking about another idea to help you get even more done, which is to do the worst high payoff tasks first. Aim to get the most unpleasant and highest payoff tasks (which are sometimes the most important) out of the way as soon as possible. The sooner you get them done, the sooner you can move on to the next activities which may not be so unpleasant. Tune in tomorrow for another way to get even more stuff done. Today we are talking about another idea to help you get even more done, which is to create mini goal posts. When you begin a new task, set a specific goal post for what you are going to achieve before you stop work, and then focus on working until you reach that milestone. You can even set a timer to give yourself a set amount of time to complete each task and then move on. Set your timer and put your so-called blinders on and focus for that specific amount of time on that one high payoff activity. Time blocking your calendar is one very important aspect, and then you must adhere to what is actually on your calendar, now that you have it there. Adhering to what is on your calendar will produce your results – assuming they are your high payoff activities, of course. Tune in tomorrow for another way to get even more stuff done. Today we are talking about an idea to help you get even more done, which is to Cull your to-do list/ master task list / prioritized action list (as I prefer to say). Get lethal with your to-do list and delete (or move to the bottom of the list) anything that isn't going to add value to your daily activities. Then review what items can be delayed and move them down. Use your contact manager, outlook, or an excel spreadsheet to keep your Prioritized Action List or To Do List current at all times. Do the most important activities, and those are the activities that only you can do and can't be done by anyone else. When you consistently do your high payoff activities, it will help put you in the highest probability position to achieve your goals, and in the timeframe you have set. Today we are talking about an ideal to help you get even more done, which is to Set Daily Goals / Activities. It's impossible to work efficiently without a precise list of goals or activities you want to achieve each day. Plan your goals or activities in advance, and then put the time necessary to do them and achieve them in your calendar, so you have the highest probability to make it happen. What gets tracked gets measured and focused on. Some Key benefits of tracking certain daily goals and metrics are: Clarification – KPIs help to clarify the current business position and performance expectations Benchmarking – KPIs provide a point of reference for making future or past comparisons Focus – KPIs outline the important aspects for attention within the business Consistency – KPIs enable a consistent approach to achieving business goals Motivation – KPIs engage employees with company goals Accountability – KPIs will highlight both good performance and under performance Elimination of waste – KPIs help identify inefficiencies within the business Research shows that firms who track data regularly are twice as likely to hit targets. 5 Tips to Overcome Limiting Beliefs and Achieve Your Goals

    The Accountability Coach: Business Acceleration|Productivity

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 23, 2021 7:56

Ahhh, the good ol' catchphrase: Believe in yourself. If only it were that simple, right? I know. This expression may feel cliché. But it's worth looking closer at your belief system to better understand how it impacts your goals and your goal achievement. After all, your beliefs, both positive and negative, will affect your confidence and overall job performance. This, in turn, affects your ability to achieve your goals. To begin, we must consider where our belief system originates. Limiting Beliefs Throughout our lives, we've acquired a belief system—whether we're aware of it or not. In fact, science tells us that our beliefs are mostly formed by the time we're 7 years old. They're ingrained into our mind, and honestly, we usually don't stop to question them. And that might be where the problem lies. Even though you've grown into a successful adult, your beliefs today may reflect your beliefs as a child. When you don't recognize and overcome these types of limiting beliefs, or false beliefs that keep you from pursuing your goals and desires, you're actually hindering your own personal and professional growth. Limiting beliefs are primarily subconscious, which means you aren't stopping to think about them. They're a natural response. They're conditioned based on past experiences and circumstances. As a child, these beliefs likely provided a place of certainty and probably reduced feelings of anxiety, doubt, and stress. The power of limiting beliefs is mighty—and damaging—to adults. Let's look closer. Self-Fulfilling Prophecies You've probably heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy, which refers to predicting or expecting a particular outcome based on your beliefs. So, when you feel sure that you'll make a mistake or a goal will fall apart, you're actually setting yourself up to fail. Then when you choke, that negative outcome is validated—and further cements your limiting beliefs in yourself. Now, it's vital to note that you're not alone. As business owners, we've all dealt with moments of self-doubt. Consider the examples of limiting beliefs that occur subconsciously in our thinking patterns, that I'm going to share with you. • “I am not _______ enough.” Athletic, tall, qualified, wealthy…whatever it is, these beliefs are limiting. • “I don't have _______.” Support, time, money, knowledge, experience, resources…all these place boundaries on your potential and confine you to your current environment. • “I can't ever _______.” Succeed, win, get ahead, catch a break… these kinds of thoughts can prevent you from trying and cripple your career. • “I'm too _______.” Old, ugly, fat, short…negative beliefs about yourself can lower your ability to see opportunities and prevent manifesting the outcomes you desire. As you may have noticed from these examples, limiting beliefs are nearly always negative. But it's vital to note that your beliefs are just perceptions, not facts. Tuning into your attitude, assumptions, and even your environment can help you better understand your beliefs and, in turn, make your beliefs work for you to reach your goals. Overcoming Limiting Beliefs To beat those negative perceptions, try to shift all your energy to possible positive outcomes. You don't have to make a vision board or chant mantras every morning; however, these are good to have and do. Simple imagining and visualization can also do the trick! Keep the following three suggestions, I'm about to share, in mind when recognizing and overcoming your limiting beliefs: 1. Silence that inner critic. If you give power to that negative inner voice in your mind, it will pull you under without hesitation. Instead, challenge those thoughts. Ask yourself, What if I'm wrong about this? As soon as you recognize that a belief isn't true, it loses its power. 2. Surround yourself with affirmation. The old saying is true: garbage in, garbage out. Keep your inner circle filled with positive people. They should encourage you, push you, and help you become the best version of yourself. Anything else may cause you to focus on the negative and view failure as unavoidable…and it also lets in that inner critic you've tried so hard to eliminate. 3. Take risks. Risk is part of being a leader. As a business owner, risk allows you to slay dragons every day. But you'll need to ignore those negative voices and challenge your limiting beliefs to keep moving forward. You might ask yourself, What's the worst that can happen? What is the best that can happen? As you can see, limiting beliefs can limit your abilities, opportunities, and success. Take a moment to identify your own limiting beliefs and self-fulfilling prophecies. Write them down. Then think about how your ideal life looks. From there, you can set goals that help you visualize and reach your full potential. Think about what you want to do, not what you don't want to do, or what you don't want to happen. Kick those limiting beliefs to the curb, and take ownership of your future! 5 Tips to Overcome Limiting Beliefs and Achieve Your Goals

Today we are looking at a 4th benefit for embracing change, which is, you may get more of what you want and release what you don't want. Here's a popular quote by WL Bateman that sums it all up, “If you keep on doing what you've always done, you'll keep on getting what you've always got.” This could not have been more accurate when applied to your business and life. If you want different results, you are going to have to do things differently – even if they're a little uncomfortable. If you don't like what you've been getting, then change what you're doing. Living this principle is one of the greatest opportunities to learn what happens when you embrace change by welcoming what you want and releasing what you don't want. Over the past 4 days, we have discovered 4 benefits of embracing change. Change can sometimes be scary, but it really is the key to ultimate success both in life and in business. What are you really afraid of anyway? It may not always feel comfortable, but the more willing you are to embrace change, the less painful it usually is and the more success you will experience. There is no single key to overcoming the anxiety you may feel when embracing change. The important thing to remember is that there are very exciting results waiting for you on the other side, you just need to embrace change with a welcome mat. In the words of one of my clients, “Put your big girl/boy pants on, and suck it up and deal with it.” If you get value from these Podcasts, please take a minute to leave me a short rating and review. Today we are looking at a 2nd benefit for embracing change, which is, the easy part is integration and adaption. Many people resist change for the simple fact they are fearful of pain or the outcome. The truth is that once you get past the resistance, integration and adaptation are easy. As humans, we are inherently creative and that allows us to adapt much more easily than we presume upon first perception. Remind yourself that you will have a much tougher go at change if you choose to fight it. Embracing it merely employs your inherent ability to adapt to a changing environment. Apply that creativity to your business, and you'll find that it is much more flexible than you initially thought. As an entrepreneur, you have an enormous advantage over larger organizations in your industry, simple because it is more difficult for them to change or adapt quickly. While large organizations are struggling to adjust quickly to meet unexpected change, you can use their lag time to your advantage, and make changes quickly, to increase revenue and gain positive exposure. You don't need anyone to tell you that the world is undergoing many changes right now, that's pretty obvious. What may not be so obvious is your ability to adapt to the changes that are necessary for your business to survive and thrive in any changing market. How do you set yourself up for success when global changes are affecting the future of your business? You find out where the change is headed and adapt to meet the demand. Hypothetically, you could resist changes in the market and stand stubbornly in your comfort zone. The major drawback to that would be that you would probably be sinking in quicksand – and taking your business with you. Embracing change is important for everyone. The ability to adapt to change, and even welcome it, is absolutely essential to the success of your business and life. What happens when you fight change? That's pretty simple; instead of embracing change and adapting to it, you spent hours of energy fighting it – only to have to surrender to it in the end. The fight didn't make it any easier, nor did it prevent the change from occurring. So, why waste all the time and emotional energy to fight something that is inevitable? Over the next 4 days we will explore 4 benefits of embracing change. So, tune in tomorrow to discover 1 Benefit of embracing change. Today we are talking about Tip #6 of the 6 tips for Gaining Confidence, which is Success Breeds Confidence. When you are facing a situation that takes you outside your comfort zone, keep taking steps forward. Even if you have to take baby steps, at least they are steps in the right direction. Trying something new isn't always easy, but take action before the nerves have time to settle in. The longer you wait, the more your confidence wavers, and the likelihood you will talk yourself out of taking action increases. Remember, success breeds confidence, so if you have to take baby steps to make it to the finish line – that's okay – just keep moving forward. Being an entrepreneur is not about being the expert, although you may one day reach that status. For the time being, focus on what you know and become the best at it that you can. Commit to learning more, so you can deliver more to your clients; and your business is bound to grow with you. Continue taking steps forward, even if you stumble the first time. Don't worry, you'll get better with time; every entrepreneur has to find his or her way, and believe me, there is not one entrepreneur out there that hasn't stumbled along the way. The good news is that your clients don't have to know when you stumble. Over the past 6 days, we have explored 6 tips for helping you to gain even more confidence. Pick one or more of the tips to implement, so you can increase your confidence. Continue to accomplish little successes along the way and know that your confidence grows with each step forward. It may help you to keep a log of what works and doesn't work, so you can go back and review it before taking future steps. If something didn't work, tweak it with a set of creative eyes and try it again. Eventually the pieces will fall into place and you'll become better at succeeding on the first attempt. Before you know it, you'll be beaming confidence and that will come across in everything you do – especially your business. 4 Tips for Effective Goal Setting and Accelerating Results

Goal setting is directly tied into your future and affects your life. Setting goals not only prepares you for success, it guides you there, to that place that you envision as your ultimate destination. Setting goals helps you to know exactly what it is you want to achieve, and the steps needed in order for you to succeed professionally and personally. Effective goal setting sets you on a certain path that is free from distractions and time wasters that could slow your progress. Finally, goal setting is motivational, because the more goals you set and achieve, the more self-confidence you build and the happier you are. There are two main components to successful goal setting. 1. Set Short Term Goals: You have probably heard of the effectiveness of goal setting before. Who uses this system to their advantage? Many world-renowned athletes, as well as successful businesspersons and celebrities, have adhered to this philosophy. They have to approach their dream from a logical and progressive standpoint. Nobody can say, “I want to be rich” and then go from point A to point Z. In order to find success, as you define it, you must create short-term goals that will ultimately guide you to your vision of success. These goals will, at once, give you short-term motivation while still making your long-term vision ever clearer. 2. Get Organized. Essentially, goal setting is a means of organization. The best way to achieve anything, as an individual or as a group, is by being organized. Arbitrary desires usually do not go very far, and most people are content just to dream. When you actually take the time to organize your resources and efforts, you will come much closer to fulfilling your dream than the countless number of wishers out there. Everyone has the ability to set goals. The question is, who wants it bad enough to actually do it? You may be surprised by how few people really want it that bad. Tips for Setting Goals How do you go about setting goals? There are different levels to goal setting—you might even say there are goals to setting goals! Tip 1: Start Broad and Get Specific You start at the base level, which means deciding what it is you want out of life. Are you interested in a particular career path or are you after the benefits of success, such as money or influence over others? After you decide on a mission you must break down this destination into smaller targets. The entire mission may take a lifetime, so why limit yourself to just one target? Having a series of targets to accomplish over a short period of time keeps you motivated. Tip 2: Brainstorm It is important to give some attention to the “brainstorming” process. The object of these sessions may be to expand your vision of success, with proper attention given to breaking down long-range goals into achievable steps. For example, an artist might ask himself, “If I want to be a professional artist, then what kind of art do I want to make? How will I go about making it?” A career professional might ask herself similar questions, such as what corporate level do I want to reach and why? Do I want to open my own business someday, and if I do, what kind of business would it be?” You may also find that it helps to ask deeper questions such as “How could I make the world a better place?” Tip 3: Do a Personal Assessment After you decide exactly what it is you want to accomplish you have to compare the person you are now to the person you will be then. Examine your circumstances and unique personality to see what is holding you back from achieving your dream. Can you trace your lack of success or motivation to get started to a certain mindset? Is your behavior or your present living surroundings preventing you from reaching a goal? Tip 4: Create Specific Timeframes After you consider how to correct the circumstances, you must organize your goals according to a specific time frame. A specific time frame means that every goal you set should include a month, day, and year for when you would ideally like to achieve that goal. If the grand scheme of your ambition takes 25 years to accomplish, then try and envision yourself at the one-year point. What do you see? What progress could you realistically make? Better yet, could you break down these goals even further, to a month's time frame, perhaps even a week's time frame? Start with long-range plans and then write them to be progressively smaller. There should be a logical coherence between each of the plans you create, so that the new plan picks up where the previous plan leaves off. Once you create this progressive plan it becomes a matter of taking action and then updating your list on a regular basis. You may find yourself modifying short-term plans as you continue to grow in experience and as you always keep the long-range mission in mind. It is about consistently making progress toward your goals. When you are effective at goal setting and focusing on the activities required to achieve these goals you will feel confident about fulfilling what is truly important to you in life. Today we are talking about Tip #4 for Gaining Confidence, which is to Try Something New Every Day. We all get used to routines, because we like to stay within our comfort zone. However, it's staying within that comfort zone that keeps us from gaining confidence. Knowing what you know now will only get you so far – and I regret to point out, that is not very far. As an entrepreneur, you must constantly push yourself outside your comfort zone to learn and do more. This not only benefits you, but it also benefits your clients, which will only grow your business. “If comfort is your goal, success is NOT in your future.” --Bill Bachrach, CSP, CPAE Tune in tomorrow to discover Tip #5 for Gaining Confidence. Today we are discussing a 9th tactic required to help you make the right business decisions, which is Results, Rewards, and Recognition. An effective decision-making team requires acknowledgement when the results of their decisions prove to be advantageous to the organization. Similarly, decisions that have adversely affected the company's performance or outcome also need to be acknowledged. In this situation, it is important for the decision makers to analyze the factors that led to the decision and take preventative measures, so the outcome isn't repeated. It is simply human nature to get it wrong from time to time; not even the strongest and most powerful leaders get it right 100% of the time. However, it takes a strong leader to admit he or she was wrong and that it is necessary to “go back to the drawing board” to analyze where and what went awry. 6 Ideas for Creating New Business Opportunities

    The Accountability Coach: Business Acceleration|Productivity

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 9, 2021 8:23

Today we are talking about 6 Ideas for Creating New Opportunities by Getting Rid of Limiting Beliefs. According to the laws of physics and aerodynamics, a bumble bee can't fly. So…try telling a bumble bee that! Isn't it wonderful that bumble bees don't possess human traits? Because if they did, in all likelihood, we would live in a world devoid of flowers and honeycomb and the simple delights of bumble bees productively going about their business in our garden. Why? Because we human beings have a knack for getting caught up in limiting self beliefs, so it follows that the bulk of us would simply accept the word of the scientific community and not fly because we've been told we can't! And like the imaginary void that would be created without the ingenuity of bumble bees, we create huge voids in our life by accepting self-limiting beliefs. Our beliefs about ourselves, those around us and the world at large affect who we are and how we behave. Beliefs are merely thoughts, that with a little encouragement and repetition from our over-active minds, transform into facts. Or so we are led to believe. Once we have formed a self-limiting belief, we continue to pursue evidence to prove that our belief is real. These beliefs are backed up by our self-talk, providing further evidence to back up our negative thoughts. How many times have you caught yourself saying: • I knew I'd be no good at this. • This always happens to me – I'm hopeless. • I'm always the unlucky one. • I'll never be any good at anything. • I can't ask for referrals. • I'm not built for following a calendar. • I can't seem to stop letting things distract me. • I have to spend too much time on lower priorities because they need to get done. Limiting beliefs are self-perpetuating; the more we believe something to be so, the more our actions reflect that belief, and the more the resultant failure to achieve what we originally set out to do reinforces the initial limiting belief. So, how do we break the vicious cycle of self-limiting beliefs and create more positive outcomes? 6 Step Plan to Break the Cycle of Limiting Beliefs The first step in breaking the cycle of self-limiting beliefs is recognizing that the belief exists. This can often be difficult because many of our limiting beliefs stem from early childhood experiences, or are so deeply ingrained into our psyche that we aren't consciously aware of them. For example, you may have been told over and over as a child that you'd “never amount to anything” because you didn't get your homework in on time. Over the ensuing years, you've lived a mediocre life, settling for whatever life has thrown at you because you don't believe you are capable of anything better. So, let's look at a series of exercises that will disprove your long-held belief and create a whole new world of opportunities. 1. Write down your self-limiting belief. Writing is an integral part of the process because it shifts your focus from the maze of random thoughts associated with the right side of the brain to the more analytical, logical left hemisphere. 2. Using the above example, the self-limiting belief might be: “I will never amount to anything.” 3. Describe the self-talk that is associated with the belief: “I am useless.” “I am a waste of space.” “I don't deserve to be successful.” 4. Record all the limitations your belief creates: “I am unfulfilled.” “I get no enjoyment from life.” “I am frustrated by my inability to get ahead.” 5. Write down the new positive self-talk that opposes the self-limiting belief: “I am capable of great things.” “I can be successful.” “I am a good person.” 6. Imagine yourself with the new positive belief and describe your feelings when you think about it: “I feel happy and content with my life.” “I feel positive and invigorated.” “I know I'm capable of achieving success.” This exercise is designed to give you a new-found sense of excitement about the unlimited possibilities you can create. If you want to take this exercise one step further, describe the feelings of elation and freedom your new belief gives you. Most importantly, you need to visualize yourself without the self-limiting belief that has held you back in the “no-fly zone” for most of your life. You would be deceiving yourself if you believe that you only need to practice this exercise once. In most cases, your self-limiting beliefs have dictated who you are and how you see the world for a very long time, so you need to repeat the exercise until the revised belief becomes a part of you. Daily affirmations will help hasten the process. Write down on a piece of paper an affirmation that describes the new belief you are focused on, and pin it up someplace where you'll see it every morning. The mirror where you dress each day is perfect. Then, each morning, say out loud your affirmation. And say it like you mean it! It also helps to repeat your affirmation to a loved one, say, your spouse or family. If you don't have a loved one to acknowledge your affirmation, shout it out loud to the cat or even your next-door neighbors! (They'll probably try to have you committed, but who cares? You're a human being reborn!) Breaking a self-limiting belief is like seeing the world for the first time without the lens cap on. A brave new world of opportunity that you never knew existed is out there, waiting just for you. Today we are discussing an 8th tactic required to help you make the right business decisions, which is Too Much Information. One of the major barriers to a company's ability to make decisions in a limited time span is a desire for over analysis of too much information. Effective decision making is hampered not only by information overload, it can also be paralyzed by over analysis of that information. I've heard it said that, “A confused mind says no.” If the correct processes and procedures are adopted as company policy, the provision of unnecessary information overload can be avoided. Today we are discussing a 7th tactic required to help you make the right business decisions, which is an Intuitive vs Logical Response. Making decisions that result in a positive outcome for the business relies on a healthy mix of logical analysis and well-informed intuitive skills. Rather than basing intuition on simple “gut feel”, intuitive analysis is based on knowledge, experience, practice, and the outcome of past decisions made in similar circumstances. One of the qualities of a good leader is their ability to make decisive choices based on limited information. Tune in tomorrow to discover Tactic #8 for Helping you Make the Right Business Decisions. My boss made me go into the office on Labor Day. Halfway through the day, he came in to check up on me and caught me having a beer. He said to me, “You can't drink while you're working.” I said, “Oh, don't worry – I'm not working.” My dog has been recently working as a door-to-door salesman. Everyone calls him a 'labour-a-door' in short. “Labor Day is a glorious holiday because your child will be going back to school the next day. It would have been called Independence Day, but that name was already taken.” ~ Bill Dodds Tune in tomorrow when we resume with Tactic #6 for Helping you Make the Right Business Decisions. A top-heavy, centralized decision-making company is slow to react to change in a rapidly evolving environment. The efficient flow of information is halted by gridlocks and hurdles that prevent the timely receipt of relevant information by the primary decision makers. A more autonomous hierarchy with the power to make decisions based on the employee's level of expertise, and experience, and with the knowledge of the company's strategic agenda creates a fertile and efficient flow of information. Have you heard that saying, “Persistence Pays Off”? It is true, but there is a fine line between being persistent and being relentless, and you need to know when you're crossing the line. Persistence is a personality trait and an attitude that indicates you're working hard, and that you keep trying until you achieve success or until you realize the direction you're going isn't going to achieve the goal you set. Persistence is a personality trait you can develop and here are five reasons you may want to: 1. You will be motivated. If you're persistent you are more likely to stay motivated and keep moving toward the goals you've set. Self-motivation is a critical trait of a successful entrepreneur. 2. You will gain expertise. If you're persistent in pursuing a goal, you will work harder and learn more about the subject at hand. You will experiment, and repeat actions until you achieve the desired outcomes. 3. You learn the value of success. When you are persistent and if you don't always succeed on your first try you truly understand the meaning of success – because you have worked so hard for it. 4. It shows others you are driven. A person who is persistent is perceived as ambitious. You're not happy to just sit back and let things happen around you – you are a change-maker and take the initiative. 5. Your persistence may motivate others. Whether you're an entrepreneur or a leader in a job, when your colleagues see your persistence and drive, they will follow your lead. You are setting a good example to others by your persistence. You may notice a boost in efficiency and productivity in your team. Are you as persistent as you want to be? Can you develop a more persistent attitude? Yes, you can and here's how: Determine the goal you want to achieve. If you want to develop persistence you need to have a goal toward which you're striving. Set goals and set specific milestones to meet those goals. Write down your large goal then break that down into smaller steps. Studies show that if you have clear and concise goals you are 95% more likely to achieve them! Plan for stumbling blocks and failures. Just because you've set goals and planned milestones doesn't necessarily mean you won't face stumbling blocks. You may even face failure. The persistence you're developing will keep you from throwing in the towel and it will keep you moving forward. You will persist and find a solution to the issue that caused the initial failure. Keep in mind to consider other options, that you haven't thought of before, to get to your goal. Sometimes you may have to course correct along the way. If a task is failing and a goal isn't being met, take a step back and look at it with fresh eyes and determine what is keeping you from your goal and brainstorm new paths that can get you there. Stop procrastinating. If you tend to have trouble getting started, you will have nothing to persist toward. Get started. Don't fear failure. Move toward your goals with confidence and expect a great outcome. Get buy-in. Whether you're working alone or in a team, you need to get buy-in. Talk with a trusted business colleague or team members and let them know your plan and the goal you want to achieve. Get their input, take their suggestions and recommendations and persist! Stay focused. It's impossible to be persistent if you're constantly chasing new ideas and following new threads that may not be part of your original goal. When you stay focused, you maintain your motivation and you persist on the path to achieve your goal. Celebrate your persistent nature. When you achieve a goal, celebrate. When you overcome a hurdle or a milestone, pat yourself on the back! Set rewards for a job well done. When you meet a specific goal, take an hour off to recharge your batteries. When you are at the halfway point, spend some money on a fancy coffee. Rewards help you stay focused, keep your momentum, and enhance your persistent proclivities. Are you persistent? Do you find you give up too easily? What would being even more persistent mean to your personal and professional goals? When you determine that you want to be more persistent, you need to own it, embrace it, and follow a path toward the successes you seek! If you are getting value from any of Podcasts, please take a minute to leave me a short rating and review. I would really appreciate it, and love to hear from you. 10 Tactics for Making the Right Business Decisions

Leadership is not a popularity contest. In business as in life, it's not always the good guy who wins, it's the person who makes the good decisions. Business leaders are forced to make choices every day, as you know. Some of those decisions will prove to be highly successful and innovative; some will dissipate into thin air; some may cause dissention in the ranks, while others may have staff believing they have a chimpanzee in the CEO's office. In the current dynamic and rapidly evolving business world, decisions often have to be made rapidly and without the benefit of a strategic agenda for managing change. Therefore, to enable every form of management to act with agility and clarity in the face of opportunities or risks to that business, a precise, rapid-fire, and manageable decision-making action plan needs to be implemented. This applies to every form of business, from small and mid-size companies to large corporations. In most cases, the decision makers don't have the luxury of a “wait and see” policy. In that time, multi-million dollar opportunities have been and gone. A recent survey of corporate executives by a faculty of the Harvard Business School found that an enormous shift has occurred in the policy making decisions of those responsible for signing off on the expansion and profit potential of corporate America. The survey indicated that 59% of executives in strategic planning roles had adopted new decision-making agendas to meet the economy's need for rapid change and their company's desire to remain at the cutting edge of advancement and acquisition policies. The research findings suggested that 10 points are necessary to provide the required maneuverability and flexibility required to keep pace in a rapidly evolving marketplace. You don't have to be mean about the “no.” You can say, “Thank you, but no. I just don't have the time or bandwidth for this right now.” Remember, you can always say, YES, later, if you still want to do it. Everyone has demands on life and work that compete with and overlap one another. The way in which you deal with them will go a long way in helping you achieve that work life balance you seek. Just as important as knowing what your priorities are is knowing why they are important. Before you leave your office, or go to bed at night, take a few moments to plan your following day. Look back at what you've accomplished today and assess its impact on your work and your life. How did you spend your time? Did you spend it wisely? Were there parts of your day that lifted you up and made you smile and parts that had you shaking your head and wondering what went wrong? When you prioritize, then analyze how your priorities were met, you can better see if your day was productive and effective or if you squandered time on tasks that didn't forward your dream of a work life balance. Today we are talking about Idea #2 to help you attain even better work life balance, which is to just let it go. Being a perfectionist and trying to be everything to everyone is a recipe for disaster and burn out. If you're feeling stressed in your personal life, you need to delve deeper into what those stressors are. The same goes for your work life; what is adding to your stress? Once you know what your stressors are, you can take steps to find those items you can simply let go of. Are there items that simply do not matter in the big picture? If so, cut them loose. The more items you can let go of (and that may mean delegating work or home tasks to others) the more balanced your life will be. 9 Ideas to Help You Be an Even More Effective Communicator

Do you command a room when you begin speaking? Have you met individuals who, no matter if they're talking about the weather or about intense business topics, have everyone on the edge of their seats? Have you ever wanted to be an even more effective communicator? If so, I have some good news for you! You can hone that skill. Whether you want to command a room at a speaking engagement, keep your team engaged, or even have better communication with friends and family, and clients and prospects, here are 9 ways you can enhance your communication skills. If you're ready to take the first steps toward a more effective communication style, there is no better time to start than today. This may not be a skill you hone overnight, but when you plan, prepare and practice, you will see marked improvement in your communication skills. So, let's explore nine ideas to help you be an even more effective communicator. 1. Think about the takeaway. If you're getting up to speak, what do you want the audience to walk away with? Do you want your spouse or significant other or your child to remember to pick up the bread? Do you want your colleagues to know the next steps in the current project? If you know the outcome you're seeking, you can craft your speech toward that resolution. 2. Know when to speak. There are times when you're better served to be a good listener. Not every gathering is a time for you to shine the light on who you are and what you do. Choose your times wisely. 3. Listen well. You've probably heard that we were given two ears and one mouth for a reason – that we should listen twice as often as we speak. Good advice. When you're a good listener you are better able to give great advice. Respond when the person you're listening to takes a pause or asks for your input. 4. Don't be wordy. If you can be succinct, you should. You won't better make your point by making it wordy and by rambling. People appreciate input when they get the answer they're seeking in a quick and easy manner. If all you have to say is Blah, don't say Blah, Blah, Blah. 5. Be the voice that unifies. You've been in meetings or conversations where it is just a round-about discussion with no end point, no beginning point, and the point of the conversation has been lost. Step in, recap the conversation and steer it toward a conclusion. You don't have to give your advice or have your opinion be the one that is the last voice heard. 6. Not everyone wants, or needs, your opinion. Let's face it, you don't have to comment on everything and in every discussion, right? You will become a more respected communicator if you offer input where your input is needed and will be the most helpful. 7. If you're going to be called upon to speak to a group, prepare beforehand. Don't try to “wing it” even if you're talking about a subject in which you're an expert. Not everyone can communicate off the cuff. If you want to provide a memorable conversation, prepare for it. Also, don't forget to prepare your valuable takeaway for the audience – they will appreciate it. If you are like me, what I say in my head is typically better than what comes out of my mouth, without preparation. 8. Smile when you speak. If you're positive and if you smile and nod when you're speaking and when others are speaking, you will be deemed more approachable. Pay attention to the current speaker and curb any impatience you may feel. 9. Validate what the person you're speaking to is saying. There is something to be said for repeating a question back to the person with whom you're speaking. For example: “If I understand you correctly, you want to know how I reached the conclusion that 2 + 2 = 4. Correct?” This lets the person know you were listening to them and that you're paying attention to what they were saying or asking. Body language matters when you're speaking and when you're listening. If you're communicating with your team or a group of colleagues, pay attention to your body language. If you stand with your hand on your hip or your arms folded across your body, you might be sending incorrect non-verbal messages. You may not even be aware of that, but effective communicators are aware of everything – body language included. Words and body language should be congruent. If you're not certain whether you're an effective communicator, ask. Ask for feedback and be open to suggestions for changing. Awareness will truly help you grow as a communicator. Which of the nine ways to enhance your communication will you implement, so you can be an even better communicator and accelerate your business results to having your ideal business and ideal life? Today we are talking about Idea #1 to help you attain even better work life balance, which is that you need to have clear boundaries. Even if you work from a home office you need to set office hours – this is for your clients and your family. Clients need to appreciate that you're not on call 24-hours a day. Family needs to understand that between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm you're working and shouldn't be disturbed. These boundaries need to apply to your technology as well. Even if you've closed the literal door on your office, if you have your smart phone continually within reach, you will be distracted and tempted to check social media and emails and your work may again bleed into your home and family life. Tune in tomorrow for idea #2 that can help you have even better work life balance. If you get value from these Podcasts, please take a minute to leave me a short rating and review. Life is in continual motion. There seems to be a blur between life and work and that is especially true for an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs, it seems, have a harder time separating work and life and home; they feel they need to be always available and always in “client search mode” as well as running the business. Are there secrets to attaining a work life balance? They aren't exactly secrets, but sometimes in the hustle and bustle of life, we forget to breathe, and we allow our work and lifelines to coincide. Now is the time to take a step back and untangle those lines and get back to a better balance. It is important to find a balance that makes both life and work fulfilling and enjoyable. If you don't, you risk burnout in both areas of your life. Keep in mind that you won't likely notice a large sign that lets you know your life and work are out of balance. The imbalance usually happens slowly and subtly, until you get to the point where you're not functioning well in either aspect of your life. Over the next 5 days, we will explore 5 ways I've learned that can help you attain a more balanced work and life environment. So, tune in tomorrow for idea #1. Today we are talking about Productivity Tip #7 of the 7 tips, which is: Take a Break. It may seem counter intuitive to get away from your desk and take a break, but in truth, you need to give yourself some breathing room. When you're feeling overwhelmed, you aren't as productive as you should be and need to be, taking a break will clear your head. Also, in order to be a productive entrepreneur, you need to be a healthy entrepreneur. Sitting all day without a break is not good for your health. Get up. Get moving. Your brain and body will thank you. What is your favorite productivity tool or method of these seven that we have explored over the past 7 days? Where do you struggle the most when it comes to productivity? Which one or ones will you implement to use even better to help you be even more efficient and effective? I'd love to know, so I might be able to help you. Today we are talking about Productivity Tip #6, which is: Write it Down. If you write down tasks, project steps, and other items you need to do on a regular basis, you are more likely to get it done. When you're hoping to remember what you need to do and are just letting tasks float around in the ether without being written down it is easy to feel overwhelmed that you have too much to do and not enough time to do it, then you procrastinate. When you make a list and make note of all the projects you have to complete, you feel more in control and will be more productive. Writing a list and writing items down will also help assure you don't miss any deadlines. You can use your contact management system, Outlook, or my Prioritized Action List (PAL) to help you. Today we are talking about Productivity Tip #5, which is: Speaking of Distractions. If you work from home, distractions are, well, distracting! They take you from your work and make you less than productive. The vacuuming, dog walking, laundry, errands… they all can distract you when you work from home. If you work in an office, your staff can be distractions. People popping their heads into your door just to say hi or pick your brain will take you away from the tasks at hand and will keep you from being as productive as you could be. If you work from home set up specific office hours and let friends and family know you're not available to always go out to lunch or run errands for them. Do your laundry and household tasks on your lunch breaks or after working hours. What if this statistic is true? Every 11 minutes you are distracted or interrupted by someone or something that takes your focus away from what you are currently doing. Then it takes approximately 30 minutes to go back and get refocused on where you were to then begin again. If this is true or close to reality, what would have to happen to not let this be true in your life? To download a Free Sample Prioritized Action List (PAL) that everyone in your office can use, go to https://www.accountabilitycoach.com/pal-sample/, or use your To Do List, or Task List in your contact management system, if you have one.
