By focusing on key practices like sleep, nutrition, and specific brain hacks, CJ provides a roadmap for unlocking your brain's full capabilities.Key Takeaways:Your Brain is the CEO of Your Body: Treat your brain like the most critical organ in your body. When it's functioning at its best, everything else follows suit.Myelination – The Foundation of Brain Function: Eating the right fats (like omega-3s) and nutrients supports myelination, crucial for fast and clear thinking. Good sources include seafood, grass-fed meats, flaxseeds, and walnuts.Protecting the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB): This barrier is your brain's defense system. If you're vegetarian, consider supplements to cover your omega-3 needs.Prioritize Sleep Quality: Ensure you get 7-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Quality sleep is essential for brain recovery, memory, and protecting the BBB.Try Breathwork Daily: Start with box breathing for stress relief or the 4-3-8 technique for better sleep. These exercises require no special tools and can be done anywhere.Introduce Cold Exposure: Whether it's a cold shower or an ice bath, a few minutes of cold exposure daily can enhance brain health and boost your immune system.Optimize Magnesium Intake: Support your BBB and reduce stress by increasing your magnesium levels. You can use supplements, transdermal lotions, or even Epsom salt baths.Episode Highlights:CJ discusses how brain performance is like a turbocharged engine—vital for both speed and endurance.Learn about the critical role of myelination and how good fats keep our brain running smoothly.Explore how protecting your BBB is essential to warding off toxins and keeping your brain sharp.Discover the benefits of breathwork, including Navy Seal-approved techniques for staying calm under pressure.Cold exposure isn't just for athletes; it's a powerful tool to supercharge your brain and body.Find out why activating the vagus nerve is key to maintaining mind-body balance.By implementing even a few of these brain hacks, you can start experiencing sharper focus, better decision-making, and overall improved well-being. This episode dives into the daunting nature of choosing fats or carbs. Many of us struggle to ascertain which fats are good and which are bad. The same goes for carbs. Not all fats are good nor all bad. Not all carbs are bad nor all good. Today we address both nutrients of fats & carbs and also how you can clearly identify the winners and losers of each respective food group. It's not as tricky as you think.

This is the first of a three part episode, where I am going to dissect some key nutrition concepts. After reading the book, Deep Nutrition, several years ago, I had learned so much about how our nutrition effects our genes, our symmetry, and much more. Even if you didn't read the book, there were a few main take-aways, that if you only did these things, you could lead a much healthier, vibrant, and disease-free life. Further, I see so many people making a huge mistakes when it comes to the types of oils they should be using and it makes me cringe. The problem is, it's not your fault. The media along with several governmental groups such as the American Heart Association (AMA) and the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) have led people astray since the 1960's. With so much time overlapped, people just continue to do what generations before them have done, or they just don't know any better because the new, real science is not being promoted. These are easy fixes, but if not addressed, 30 years will pass and you'll be on six different medications for your blood pressure, cholesterol, and sexual performance. In this episode I talk about heart disease, cholesterol, LDL vs HDL, good fats vs bad fats, and the history of this science. It's ironic as at the time of creating this episode, other doctors and wellness warriors are trying to tell the other side of the coronavirus pandemic, and they are being silenced and censored by the mainstream media, as well as social media outlets. In the 1960's, the same type of censorship was orchestrated, and Americans were told to change thier diet, eat certain foods, and heart disease which was at all time lows skyrocketed. And so did the pocketbooks of Big Pharma. Enjoy the episode! If you're looking to go deep in your life, and you're interested in improving your health or reaching higher levels in your life, please contact me for one on one coaching at info@joelevancoaching.com

Dr Elizabeth Bright is the author of the menopause book “Good Fat is Good for Women”. There were many aspects of this book I thought were excellent and appreciate Dr Bright joining me to talk about menopause, hormones, including thyroid, and other aspects of health in this podcast.Dr Bright is an osteopath and naturopath and works with her clients using these modalities along with personalised nutritional plans to create long-term healing and good health. She is turning 60 in 2023 and decided to write a book about menopause following her own experience. She came to realise that the symptoms associated with menopause are caused by a lack of adequate nutrition and abuse of our stress response system, rather than a reduction in sex hormones. One of the chapters I most enjoyed in her book was about the medicalisation of women's health since the time of Hippocrates and naturally occurring events such as menopause, becoming “problems” to be managed.Dr Bright now lives in Italy. She is the mother to 3 children and a Master in Chou Jia Kung Fu. She now engages in paddling boarding and cycling. She switched to a carnivore diet in 2015, when she went into menopause, to assist with her own health and healing. You can find Dr Bright website: https://elizbright.comLink to her book: https://www.amazon.com/Good-Fat-Women-Menopause/dp/1794665854If you have any guests you would like to hear from or questions answered please let me know. The No Nonsense Wellness Podcast | Healthy Mind, Healthy Body
Do you have to cut carbs to lose weight? To carb or not to carb, that is the question! If you look around social media, half the people are telling you to quit carbs altogether and half the people are telling you the carbs are good and you need them. But who's right? This episode is our third installment in our focus on the food three part series. We already talked about protein and fat, if you haven't caught the first two episodes, go back and listen to them after this. So why are carb so demonized? What does it actually mean to reduce or eliminate carbs? What exactly IS a carb? How much and what type of carbs are the best for me? I'll answer all your questions because . . . It's definitely NOT as easy as saying "carbs are bad, dump them" - an apple is a carb, broccoli is a carb, lettuce is a carb, are those bad? In my opinion the conversation about WHAT TYPES of carbs, and the quality of carbs is the conversation we SHOULD be having, so let's do it! XOXO Tara PS. But won't fat make me fat? No.
Spurned on by the Maintenance Phase podcast episode about the horror of fat camps, besties Alison Rampa (she/her/hers) and Erica Chiseck (she/her/hers) decided to redesign the experience of a fat camp into an actual fat-positive camp. Trophies for biggest cannonballs, gourmet s'mores, midriff-baring clothing, and telling anti-diet ghost stories around the campfire are all part of the experience of inviting women and women-identifying to take up space and reclaim the camp experience at Camp Roundup. As a lifelong fat girl, Erica Chiseck is incredibly familiar with taking up space. An abortion activist, Democratic Precinct leader as well as a board member for the Cincinnati Women's March, Erica never considered being fat one of her centers of activism, but it has become clear in the last few years that simply existing non apologetically in a fat body is an act of resistance and rebellion.Alison Rampa is a writer, teacher, actress, improviser and mom from Cincinnati Ohio. Alison currently teaches middle school English in Hamilton, Ohio by day and is co-owner and producer of a female-focused murder mystery dinner theater company, Unique Events Productions. Please connect with Alison & Erica on the Camp Round up page, and sign up for Labor Day 2023!! Udo Erasmus is an expert on omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and the founder of Udo's Oil. He became passionate about the topic when he was poisoned in 1980 and realized that the oils he was consuming were damaged. He decided to create an oil that was made with health in mind, and he spent the next 15 years touring the United States and telling people about the amazing properties of omega-3s. He realized that 99% of the population was not getting enough omega-3s because there were not enough foods that contained them. He also realized that omega-3s were five times more sensitive to damage than omega-6s, so he focused on creating an oil that was made with health in mind.
