Far too often we hear the same story, a woman gets diagnosed with fibroids and is told her only option is a full hysterectomy. In this interview, Kit Maloney and Rachel Rose talk with Miara Pack, who shares her journey of saying no to the white coat and bravely charting her own course. Miara opens up about her experience with painful cycles and dismissive doctors and her choice to pursue natural healing: yoni steaming, breathwork, and lifestyle changes alongside western medical care. A cornerstone of her healing was her connection with Kit, the founder of Kitara, whose compassionate presence was a consistent source of strength, wisdom, and love. We're honored to share this conversation of healing, self-empowerment, and the sacred bond between women supporting each other to reconnect to their wombs and inner wisdom. Guest: Tamatha Fenster, M.D., M.S. Tamatha Fenster, M.D., M.S., gynecologic surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian and director of innovation and technology at The Weill Cornell Medicine Fibroid and Adenomyosis Center, explains how her team has developed a new 3D MRI technology to enhance patient outcomes in fibroid surgery. The novel software, called smartHER MRI, renders a 3D image of a patient's uterus to more accurately identify fibroids and their precise location, which can be used for both laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures. In a pilot study analyzing smartHER MRI vs. 2D imaging, results demonstrated that surgeons who relied on traditional imaging had residual fibroids at the 6-month follow-up, while surgeons who used smartHER MRI had no residual fibroids with their patients. © 2025 NewYork-Presbyterian

Click here to send me a quick message :) I get asked a lot about herbal approaches to fibroid care, and there is actually a lot that's possible! But I also haven't personally been through the journey myself, so I'm excited to bring Kate Douglas, founder and curator of Earth Body, onto the podcast to share about her own embodied experience over the past couple years. She shares about how she even knew she had fibroids in the first place (hint: cycle tracking was a KEY to her awareness), and the very integrative approach she's explored to both reduce the size of (and totally clear one of) her fibroids. Her path has incorporated everything from nutrition to lifestyle to bodywork to pelvic steaming and more.Even if you don't have fibroids, or don't *think* you do, everything Kate shares is also foundational for hormonal wellness overall, and especially useful for any estrogen-dominant conditions, too.I hope you enjoy Kate's inspiring story. In this episode of From First Period to Last Period, Erica T. gets real about her experience with fibroids and the decision to have a myomectomy. She shares what it was like navigating painful symptoms, how it affected her reproductive health, and what she wishes she had known sooner. Kristyn and Dr. Jenna Kahn also tackle some of your biggest questions: Could lighter, less frequent periods be a sign of perimenopause? And how many days a month can you actually get pregnant?Anna Bohnengel, RDN joins us to explain how much protein you should actually be eating in a day. Then, we dive into groundbreaking research from the VIBRANT study at Columbia University Fertility Center. Scientists are studying whether rapamycin, an immunosuppressant, could slow ovarian aging — potentially delaying menopause and extending reproductive health by up to 20%. Dr. Fiona Lovely is a longevity, health and wellness expert with specialties in menopause medicine, functional neurology and functional medicine. She is speaking to the topics of women's health around perimenopause and menopause. Uterine fibroids are a very common concern for women who are still menstruating. They are the cause of extreme and chronic pain, heavy bleeding and there aren't great treatment options available. Today I welcome Dr Suzanne LeBlang to the show to discuss a novel therapy for treatment of fibroids - focused ultrasound. I had never heard about this treatment until Dr. LeBlang shared her knowledge. This conversation highlights how the non-invasive technique can treat uterine fibroids using thermal ablation, without the need for incisions or injections. This is also available for many other health concerns such as thyroid nodules, Parkinson's disease, breast tumours, tremors and others. It has been FDA approved since 2004. Overall, this episode underscores the importance of non-invasive treatment options for women's health concerns, with focused ultrasound emerging as a promising alternative for various conditions. Dr. LeBlang is the Director of Clinical Relationships at the Focused Ultrasound Foundation (FUS) and was trained as a neuroradiologist. You can find out more about this treatment option at fusfoundation.org or on Instagram here. Thank you to our sponsors for this episode:
As of the reairing of this episode, 13 states in the US have a total abortion ban. 7 states ban abortion at or before 18 weeks' gestation. 21 states ban abortion at some point after 18 weeks. In the weeks before the Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade, we sat down to talk about what body autonomy and reproductive health will look like for us in a post-Roe vs. Wade world. The stress of racism and barriers to care–including abortion care–are part of a downward spiral in reproductive justice. Too often, those stressors play out in our wombs as fibroids and cancers. Fibroids are extremely common, especially in Black and Brown women. Over half of women will develop fibroids during their childbearing years. During pregnancy, oftentimes, fibroids don't cause any symptoms at all. But sometimes during pregnancy, fibroids can increase in size so fast that they outgrow their own blood supply. This is when fibroid degeneration happens, which can lead to severe pain. Download and listen to this episode to find out more about fibroids, fibroid degeneration, and how it affects pregnancy. You'll also learn how fibroid degeneration is treated and how long, on average, you will have to deal with associated pain. Go ahead... check out the episode now!
There's a game changer in the treatment of uterine fibroids. Women whose lives are compromised by pain, long periods, severe bleeding, anemia and other symptoms of the muscular tumors, can opt for an embolization through the wrist. Known as transradial uterine fibroid embolization, or UFE, the doctor access the uterus though a single tiny opening in the wrist, while the patient is under twilight sedation. Most procedures take less than an hour and patients go home the same day. Dr. Brian Swehla, chief of interventional radiology at MedStar Health, has all the details about fibroids and this procedure, in this week's episode of MedStar Health DocTalk. For more episodes of MedStar Health DocTalk, go to medstarhealth.org/doctalk.
Brenda Chuinkam is a fashion blogger, hails from Gabon but was brought up in the US and spent her formative years in Cameroon. Coping with these emotions, she turned to impulsive eating, resulting in obesity that affected her self-esteem. Her life took a positive turn when she relocated to Canada. This shift allowed her to freely express herself and discover her own sense of fashion in a society that often judges by appearances. She learned the significance of establishing healthy relationship boundaries and overcoming a negative self-perception. In a courageous revelation, she discussed her journey through a Fibroid myomectomy procedure, made bearable by the unwavering support of her mother. July marks Fibroid Awareness Month, an opportunity to raise awareness for uterine fibroids, which are noncancerous growths of the uterus that impact an estimated 26 million women nationwide. "Pregnancy in and of itself, after, or in spite of infertility is quite the double-edged sword; it seems too precious to believe in any regard. No two journeys are the same. Infertility will always be part of my story, and one that I will always speak candidly about in the hopes of connecting with other prospective parents. If you're reading this or listening to this episode and you're still in the season of waiting and wondering with nearly reckless abandon, I'm sending you bravery and joy as you discover and learn what will bring you the very thing you're hoping for. Ask the questions, advocate for yourself, and find joy wherever you can (especially in the most unexpected of places) - those magic moments add up." -Hil Follow Hilari: Instagram: @hil_oneill Tiktok: @hilarioneill Subscribe: https://anchor.fm/theluxuryofselfcare/subscribe Follow Your Host: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rumor_in_stpetersburg TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@rumor_in_stpetersburg Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/theluxuryofselfcare Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/user/ahnastasia88?si=ab36621742b4474c --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theluxuryofselfcare/message
It only takes a quick google search to discover some pretty significant statistics related to uterine fibroids. Stats like….most women will develop them at some point in their lives; over 25 million if you'd like to hear a number…with about 15 million of those whose everyday lives are impacted with severe symptoms. About. 15 million maybe more because, let's face it, for some women, there may not even be a diagnosis yet. Stats like Black women develop fibroids at higher rates. We've dedicated this entire month of July, which is Fibroid Awareness Month, to exploring and amplifying stories of women whose lived experiences with fibroids are sure to educate and inspire. I am one of those women. I'm so looking forward to sharing this space with a few special sisters in order to provide even more visibility to a women's health topic that absolutely requires more attention, research, and education. We can't wait for you to hear these stories! Join us on Wednesdays as we take a deep dive into this important topic all month long!
