Have you ever considered reshaping your career path but felt unsure about how to translate your experience to new opportunities? If you are looking to make a career pivot and want to know how you can transfer those skills, it must start with you knowing why those skills are needed and confidently communicating why they are valuable to your current or future employer. If you can't confidently sell yourself, how are you going to get companies and their hiring managers more interested in you? This is one of the reasons why I asked Lisa Friscia to join me on the podcast today. Lisa has successfully pivoted several times in her career, and she pivoted into these roles after a successful career as a history teacher and educational administrator. The conversation takes a deep dive into the valuable competencies that educators bring to the corporate table—strategic planning, data analysis, and more—and how these can be your ticket to new professional opportunities. In this episode, Lisa and I talk about how you need to approach your transferrable skills differently through backwards planning, as well as why it's imperative you know your content and skills, and where they are valued in your current or future organization's leadership pipeline. Lisa Friscia, Leadership Coach and founder of Franca Consulting, talks about her mother Franca who immigrated from Italy to America via Canada as a child, and later quit her corporate job to take care of her three daughters. Mama Franca teaches us to take care of people through details; to create a space where everyone is welcome and included; to respect those who have less; and to know your privilege and give back. Lisa talks about her own professional path from a teacher to the head of HR for a group of 25 schools, her dealing with burnout, and her decision to start her own consulting business. But one of the most interesting aspects of this conversation is the way Lisa connects self-care with work – she wonders if some of Franca's frustrations came from quitting her work in order to care for others, and if keeping her work would have actually been an act of self-care for ther mom. A very important food for thought for many women. To learn more about Lisa and her consultancy, please visit her website. To subscribe to Ana's new "Mama Loves…” newsletter, please go here. On this episode, Priscilla talks to Nikki about the last year of her life that she has spent taking care of her aging mother in her 90s. She shares how she wasn't necessarily close to her mother during her teenage years and her 20s, but that later in life she was able to have a better adult relationship with her, leading to the tough moment when she realized her mother was no longer able to take care of herself. Priscilla explains how she made the decision to have her mother stay with her in her home instead of placing her in assisted care, and she talks in depth about the drastic changes this created in her life. With her mother not wanting to be a burden, Priscilla expended extra energy trying to hide from her how taxing the situation actually was. She also shares an incredibly powerful moment she got to have with her mother as she passed, and how years of facing and dealing with death prepared her for that moment.

Be sure to use the referral code STEVE when you sign up at this link to get 10% off! Salvatore Friscia is a social media expert and a property management company owner in San Diego. I’ve been really impressed with what he’s been doing on social media, including his new Property Management Social Media Bootcamp. Since he’s in the industry too, he really understands exactly how social media can work best for property managers. A few years ago, Salvatore realized that if he wanted to dominate the industry instead of compete in it, he needed to do something different from what everyone else was doing. So, while everyone else was going to property management conferences, he focused on social media. This led to success not only locally, but in the national market. At this point, you may be wondering whether social media is the right path for you, or if you even need to work on it at all. If you want to stay relevant, Salvatore advises, you inevitably need to incorporate social media marketing into your business. As you dive in, avoid the two big mistakes that Salvatore sees: not getting started, or handing over the social media marketing to a third-party company. Salvatore suggests that you get leads, extend your reach, and build your business and your brand. While these are topics that he covers in depth in his aforementioned bootcamp, he’ll also cover them in this episode and offer some valuable foundational insights that you can build on. Tune in to learn about these points, as well as what you should do if your content isn’t resonating with your audience, what social media marketing has in common with dating and marriage, and much more! Mainstream sets are the most popular with all of you; I'm pretty sure this one will quickly become a favorite once you hear it. Upbeat, happy and bright, it's full of current chart toppers from the Freemasons, Katy Perry, Cher, Rihanna, Kylie and Britney Spears. Sets like this one seem to come together without any effort. The music seems to fit together easily, almost as if the songs were written to go together. Nowhere is that more evident than in the transitions between "Irresistible" and "Believer," and "Believer" and "Firework." I tossed in a couple of songs that are currently rockin' my world as well; Friscia & Lamboy's "Rock the Bells" and BT's "The Emergency." While the lyrics may not always be the happiest, the music certainly will make you a smile. I was so pleased with this set, it's going to be the one I'll send out with my Press Kits for the next few months. I'm sure once you've listened to it, you'll understand why I named it "Shine."
It's Friday so let the parties begin! At this point, Gay Days should be in full swing and I'm sending up the final mix that should keep things going well into the morning. So let's get to it. For the most part, this mix takes on a little more subdued tone. In fact, you might even consider this a winddown mix; just with enough oomph to carry you through to 5 AM. Kicking things off, Avri and Johanna's "Love Again" is a smart piece where the protagonist declares that she can no longer be with the person she loved for so long. Midnight Society turns in an uncharacteristically low key circuit number that frankly suits the song well. This is followed by TYNY and Jerumus with Josie Vie on "What You Do To Me". I simply love this song. Miss Vie's sexy vocals are upfront and honest on this electro number. Personally, I think this deserves more attention than it's getting at the moment, but it's still relatively new, so we'll see. Many of you may remember Lakisha Jones as a finalist from American Idol's sixth season. Well, her album finally dropped in May with the lead single "Let's Go Celebrate". The original is fresh but not much different from a crowded field of the same at top 40. Nevertheless, it should do well. What really bugs me is that she is an amazingly gifted singer, but for some reason, her producers felt it was necessary to put her voice through that vocoder thingy that is very common with artists that frankly can't sing. In fact, you wouldn't even recognize her if it weren't for the fact that her name accompanies the album. Friscia and Lamboy who have been m.i.a. as of late, return with their own brand of electro-circuit style production that works oh so well for this song. I expect this will not only do extremely well in the clubs but on the charts as well. Following up "Here I Am" Matt Zarley returns with a remake of the Steve Winwood classic "While You See A Chance". With this being one of my all-time favorite songs, I was concerned about it getting some sort of circuit style treatment. Apparently, so were the remixers involved in this project. Why? They toned it down making it more of a tea dance style party mix. Solar City and Mark Picchiotti both did outstanding mixes that will compete for my next T-Dance Edition. So that left me with Twisted Dee who equally did an outstanding job though her version is a little more primetime. The "morning" used in the title suggests wind down, which is why it's on this set. After repeated listens, I really like Matt's vocals and the variety of mixes that accompanied the package. This is a grower and definitely a keeper. Those of you that follow the BPM Editions, may remember the fabulous Sabrina Johnston's take of "Peace in the Valley" with the Soulshakers doing the remix honors. Well, it looks like Michelle Weeks also wanted to give it a stab and instead of taking the funky route, she and Orienta-Rhythm deliver some soul-satisfying hard hitting house. I honestly really like both versions for competing reasons. Trust me on this one. As I had previously mentioned, DJ Paulo is all over the place lately and is turning out some high-quality mixes in the process. "Circles" is an absolute stunner reminiscent of Joey Negro's take on Sessomatto and Thelma Houston's "I Need Somebody". Probably a song I should reintroduce sometime this summer because I love it so much. Anywho, lovin' them "Circles". Another one I've been all over is Andrea Carnell's "Up Your Heart" which apparently came out in late December last year. However, it wasn't until April of this year when Danny Verde released an e.p. of his best mixes that this song started gaining traction and rightfully so. As usual, the vocals are impeccable and the hook will suck you in. Finally, The Perry Twins and Niki Haris release a second set of mixes for their spring monster "Bad Bad Boy". The Edson Pride monster mix is a definite winner for peak time mayhem,

Here at Party Favorz, I don't take a break.okay, once in a while, but when it comes to serving up some of the freshest beats on the circuit, there's no time for disco naps, nor egg hunting. This is the final edition of spring and boy oh boy is it a scorcher! Starting off with Yinon's take on Deborah Cox's "Beautiful U R" which is an amazing prog mix that has a beautiful drop about 2/3 of the way in. Deep, dark and haunting, this is truly an amazing song that is supposed to have a second set of mixes coming out soon. In the meantime, Deborah also collaborated with Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Laidback Luke for the star-studded "Leave the World Behind" which will be featured in my upcoming System Edition; so be on the watch for that. You may be scratching your head and wondering what the hell Acorn, I mean Akon is doing on this mix; especially since he's not a particular favorite of mine. Because Tracy Young worked this song every which way but loose! If you can get past the vocals, Tracy's "Monster Mix" is worth the price of admission. I already mentioned Razor 'n' Guido in my last post, so just know their re-work of the classic "Drop a House" is HOT! The Chriss Ortega mix of "My Life Would Suck Without You" had already appeared on my last BPM Edition, but is the only entry for this song that's worth the play. I really expected more from Tommy Sunshine and Friscia and Lamboy, but they basically turned in a mix that Jason Nevins could have worked out had he been asked to mix the song.eh! Then we've got the return of Depeche Mode and the elusive Peter Rauhofer mix currently only available as a promo. Why they left it off the commercial release is beyond me, because Peter's mix is not only the best but smoldering. I am a little concerned that David's vocals are not up to par, leaving one to wonder. We finally get some new mixes for Rihanna's "Breaking Dishes" and Ralphi, true to form, did not disappoint. I liked the 'Soul Seekerz' mix well enough from the original remix album that was released in conjunction with "Good Girl Gone Bad", but this version brings it to life. I just hope those are Chris' dishes she's breaking; in fact go ahead and bust his balls while you're at it. Probably my biggest disappointment here is the Junior Vasquez take on "Please Don't Leave". An absolutely beautiful song in its own right, I do believe he could have done better. This mix isn't bad but would have been better served with the full vocals. Sadly, P!nk's label didn't commission many mixes for this, though the Digital Dog mix (which appeared on my last BPM Edition) is still the best version and retains all the elements that make this song so moving. One of the weirdest treats in this mix comes from Jipsta's "I Want Your Sex". If you were thinking 'George Michael"', you thought right. I always thought this song was ripe for a remake, but never in a million years did I think a hip-hop/rapper would re-do it. All I can say is HELL YEAH! This song rocks and is accompanied by a ton of excellent mixes. I don't usually use Mike Rizzo except in the BPM mixes, but his slamming take warranted inclusion. The Perry Twins in collaboration with Niki Haris turn in a really fun song and is considerably beefed-up mix by the Escape & Capello team, who are currently riding high with one club hit after another. Another welcome surprise comes from Cevin Fisher. After last year's remake of his classic "You Got Me (Burnin' Up)", Cevin dove right back in his bag of goodies and brought out another classic "The Freaks Come Out". As with the last release, the mixes for this song are all stellar. I went with the Prok & Fitch remix because they are one of the underground darlings in the house scene at the moment and deliver a very memorable grind for this song. This is going to be HUGE! Capping off the mix, Nick Harvey delivers a tribal lover's dream with "Beat on the Drum" and the amazing Allan Natal take on Luis Erre's "...

Well, it's that time of year again. After kicking things off with all sorts of circuit parties throughout the nation for Memorial Day Weekend, followed by Gay Days at Disney World in Orlando, FL, it's now time for Pride to take center stage. More than any other year, I feel this could be the most important Pride in a very long time. With the historical primary season behind us and so many gay issues on the table, the largest being marriage and equality, I thought I'd dedicate the entire month of June to Pride. This is the first of four mixes that will be released every Friday this month. Because the city barred all festivals in Piedmont park due to the drought last year, everyone was scrambling to secure venues. Atlanta Pride will take place over the July 4th weekend (one week later than usual) at the Atlanta Civic Center. It will be interesting to see how they pull this off since it will be a combination of indoor and outdoor festivities. Unlike past events, they will require a $5 admission fee and up to $20 dollars for various concerts. Their overall costs to put this on are twice the amount as usual. Frankly, I think that's reasonable and won't be an issue for the majority of the folks. I haven't decided if I'll be hitting up the event or bars (in my newly designed T-shirts of course) giving out CDs promoting the blog. I'll just to see how things play out. As you may notice, the artwork is tied into to this year's general election and many of the issues and challenges the gay community faces. Each mix has its own album cover created by yours truly. Some may ultimately be offensive to people, but I am trying to make an artistic statement or if you prefer, a point. I only mention this, because I don't want to be bombarded with a bunch of hate mail when the next one comes out. Rest assured, I put as much time into creating these mixes as I did the cover art. Since I haven't received any type of feedback other than "love it" (which I always like to hear) I read into something one of our M.I.A. fellow members Tom P. mentioned in an email he sent me a while back. So, instead of screaming divas all the time, I'm definitely trying to mix things up with some tribal, commercial, big room, electro, dubs and yes those always fierce divas. Overall, I'm very pleased with the final outcome and thank Tom for the feedback, even if it wasn't intended that way. See, I do listen even if you aren't talking...LOL! I don't know where you're at, but it's been a scorcher for the past several days here in the ATL. We may actually get some relief this weekend. Then again, our weather forecasters are generally 50/50 on their predictions. Anyway, I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and rest assured, I'll be back next Friday with part 2 of this series. Until then... Enjoy! Album : Pride Edition v1 Genre : Circuit, Tribal, Progressive Year : 2008 Total Time : 1:19:23.00 Track : 1 Title : Set U Free 2008 (Friscia & Lamboy Vocal Mix) Artist : Planet Soul HOT! Classic from the 90's finally receives a fabulous workover. Works on every level. Funny thing is, back in the day when this was played on radio, I went into Musicland (one of the countless record stores chains no longer around) and wanted to buy the single, but couldn't find it. I asked the clerk where was the song "Come Into My Black Hole" (I swear to God that's what I thought she was saying) and the guy just starting laughing hysterically. He goes and pulls the single and hands it to me. Needless to say, I felt like a dweeb (the other thing I thought she was saying in the song...such a dweeb, such a dweeb). Now when I hear this song, I still can't get my own version out of my head. Essential. Track : 2 Title : Stamp Your Feet (K j A M vs. Ranny Big Room Re-rub) Artist : Donna Summer Absolutely love Ranny's mix with one exception. His mid-section drop was kinda pointless and didn't really go anywhere. That's a good way for your floor to lose interest FAST!
