Some thrillingly affordable (and therefore guilt free) fragrances which also happen to be *fantastic* in this week's episode, plus a cult brand Nicola fell madly for and immediately purchased two bottles of (on a whim, having smelled them layered on someone else, as one does…)Then we're talking about a stunning (and joyously uplifting) fragrance by Jean-Claude Ellena, built around an ingredient that he says “puts a smile into a scent.”After swooning all over again for one of THE best toasty, sexy-but-cosy vanillas you can buy, and a powerful, artistic take on horse-y aromas; we're getting a shot of a new celebrity take on the coffee trend. And finally, we try to find a tuberose fragrance for a listener who hates tuberose, and a vetiver for another who ADORES vetiver (but can't re-mortgage the house for one she's addicted to…)We discuss:@gulforchid.perfumes Tahara Vanilla@dedcool Xtra Milk / 03 Blonde@laboratorioolfattivo Mandarino@jovoyparis @jovoymayfair Fire at Will@houseofsarahbaker Riders@burberrybeauty Burberry Her EDP@andotherstories Nocturnal Tales / Paper Blossom@sabrinacarpenter Me Espresso#listenerprescriptionsFor Prema @bodhiandthebons:@dior Hypnotic Poison@killianpsris Good Girl Gone Bad@pradabeauty Infusion Fleur d'Oranger@penhaligons Orange BlossomFor @teagansirset:@millerharris Vetiver Insolent@escentricmolecules Escentric 03

It might be hard to think of Rihanna as anything other than the multi-hyphenate superstar that she is today. At time of recording, fans have been waiting for more than eight years for a proper new RiRi album, with 2016's ANTI being the last full release from the original Bad Gal - but this period of waiting hasn't made Rihanna any less popular. Back in the year 2007, Rihanna was at a bit of a crossroads - She'd released two albums as a teenager in ‘05 and ‘06, and although her second record A Girl Like Me achieved a decent amount of success in the US, and ended up becoming her first Platinum album in Canada, critics were starting to become… well… critical of her sound. Despite the fact that she was still so young, Some critics were growing tired of the Caribbean sound she'd made her name on with ‘Music of the Sun' and ‘A Girl Like Me' and some were anticipating that Rihanna would pan out to be nothing more than a Beyoncé knockoff. Still only 19, Rihanna just needed a chance to grow, and she had the superstar quality that afforded her the support she needed to bet on herself, and experiment with her sound. In the early days of 2007, Rihanna began working on her third album, which would of course go on to be titled ‘Good Girl Gone Bad' - a not so subtle message to the world that she was shedding the innocent-girl image that she was synonymous with. This is the true story of the monster first single off of that album 'Umbrella' ft. Jay Z. With newly unearthed audio and additional clips from MTV News and Genius.
For the next installment in our That Was Then series, Paul and Arlo cast their minds back to 1964–a year that predates both of them, though the era's Beatlemania might as well be Arlo's spiritual birthplace. This time, they're popping paisley parasols for Jacques Demy's The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, a sung-through opera told in the style of a Hollywood musical with some of the most stunning colors you'll ever see. Hollywood extraordinaire and From Out of the Past host Michael Holland is on hand to help the boys discuss how the film defies romantic conventions while adhering to them, the magic of Jean Rabier's camerawork, the way Demy uses color to convey feeling, and why the film deserves to be mentioned alongside classics of the French New Wave. NEXT: it's a mystery, gang! This Week on America's Podcast, Free Form Rock Nation!! Jeff Beers Joins Us for controversial album among Kiss Fans.. Kiss' Crazy Nights is an album that has divided the band's fanbase since it was released in 1987. With its heavy use of synthesizers, pop-influenced hooks, and glossy production, some fans considered it a departure from the band's trademark hard rock sound. Others, however, were drawn to the album's upbeat energy and catchy melodies. The album's opening track, "Crazy Crazy Nights," is a prime example of the pop-rock sound that dominates the album. Its infectious chorus and driving beat make it a fan favorite and a frequent concert staple. Other tracks, like "I'll Fight Hell to Hold You" and "Bang Bang You," follow a similar formula, relying on catchy choruses and shiny production to propel them forward. For fans who prefer Kiss' heavier sound, Crazy Nights may feel like a betrayal. Some of the album's tracks, like "No, No, No" and "Hell or Hallelujah," offer glimpses of the band's classic style, but they are few and far between. Instead, the album leans heavily on keyboards and synth-driven arrangements, creating a sound that feels more at home on the pop charts than in the metal underground. Despite these criticisms, however, Crazy Nights has its moments of charm. Songs like the ballad "Reason to Live" showcase a softer, more emotional side of the band, while the album's closing track, "Good Girl Gone Bad," features a bluesy guitar solo that harks back to Kiss' roots. In the end, Crazy Nights is a polarizing album that will likely leave some fans divided. Those who embrace it for its pop textures and upbeat energy will find much to enjoy, while those who prefer Kiss' harder sound may feel left out in the cold. However, as with all things Kiss, there is no denying its enduring legacy and enduring appeal to both die-hard fans and casual listeners alike. Tracks of the Week Jeff, "Tom Sawyer' by Sabastian Bach. Charles, "Working Man" by Rush. Jerry, Comin 'Under Fire' by Def Leppard then we end with "Breakout" by Bon Jovi.. Why is it that famous dance pop singer Robyn Rihanna Fenty shut down Twitter for 3-minutes during the 2023 Superbowl Half-Time show? Better question: Why are her songs like "Good Girl Gone Bad," and "Umbrella" still being sung by millions of fans, even though they were released in 2007. The same with "Rated R" in 2009, "Loud" in 2010, "Talk That Talk" in 2011, "Unapologetic" in 2012. The funny thing about most want-to-be Creative Real Estate investors, is they think they need a formal real estate education to be successful. But the irony is that truly successful Creative Real Estate millionaire's know that working on what you say to Sellers is not a one time process, and this one developed skill is what made them millions in real estate just like Robyn Rihanna Fently knows the lines to her songs that has sold over 250 million records worldwide, you need to know your lines. And today we are going to cover in detail how to have the perfect things to say without using and old-fashion script, or ridged sentences that the Seller can knock you off in one sentence. So, let's get started ...

Keith Montena discusses Rihanna's fifth studio album, "Loud". With returning guest Andi Stebbins, the pair talk about the singer's notable singles discography and how the album is jam-packed with only potential hits. Released following "Rated R", an album released a year prior with a much darker edge, Rihanna was in the perfect position to continue her reign in the mainstream. With the red hair carving out a signature look and three number ones, this feels like Rihanna at the height of her powers... Before ANTi of course. Hear Keith and Andi discuss their thoughts on the album. Remember to follow @vinyldropodcast on instagram to keep up with all updates.
How do you understand the "good girl vs. bad girl" dichotomy? Was becoming "bad" a conscious effort for you or did it just happen? What influenced you to change your understanding of who you needed to be based on others' expectations? You know we love breaking down false dichotomies over here, and this week we wanted to discuss our process of rejecting the many ways people try to control women and femmes' self-expression. What's your journey? Tell us on social media: https://linktr.ee/99percentanomaly.Nessa's current definition of being bad mostly involves a nice uninterrupted day in the house. Yup, watch out, we have a badass over here! Cass discusses being a bad girl in the workplace. Dassa explores her various cycles of getting deeper into the bad girl life. Former Editor in Chief of Jezebel and famed author of The Rihanna RihPort, Julianne Escobedo Shepherd, joins DJ Louie for part one of a two-part discussion about one of the biggest and most dynamic pop icons of the 21st Century, Rihanna. Louie and Julianne get into detail about what exactly the ethereal "Rihanna Thing" is and what allows her to be so versatile with genre before discussing the state of pop and R&B prior to her emergence in 2005 and breaking down the dancehall and reggaeton explosion of the mid-aughts. They then trace Rihanna's discovery by Evan Rogers, her famed audition for Jay-Z, her breakthrough smash with "Pon De Replay", and how her artistry and persona came into full-form on her second and third albums, 2006's A Girl Like Me and 2007's Good Girl Gone Bad. Louie and Julianne dive into Rihanna's penchant for songs about love as tragedy, why her voice was distinctly suited to deliver on the promise of "Umbrella" and what makes it so instantly addictive and recognizable, how she began to establish her singular personal style, the abuse she faced at the hands of then-boyfriend Chris Brown, and the ways she dealt with that on her fourth studio album, 2009's hip hop, rock, and dubstep-inflected Rated R. Join us in two weeks for part two of this discussion, where Louie and Julianne cover the second half of Rihanna's career, rank all of her albums, and debate whether she belongs in Tier 1 of the Pop Pantheon! ¡Vuela alto, querida Lazy Town!

This episode we interview Mystic Bowie of Talking Dreads and talk about surviving 2020, his favorite strain, new music and funny tour stories.Well-schooled in the world of reggae and other Caribbean musical genres, it would be a performance in 1991 that opened a new path for him, a collaboration that would shape his future in more ways than one. Scheduled to perform on the Mardi Gras Fest bill at Tramps (NYC), Mystic had the opportunity to perform with the founding members of the Tom Tom Club as his backing band. Thanks to his performance with Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz (Talking Heads), it evolved into a partnership that has lasted to this day. Mystic has worked steadily with the Tom Tom Club since 1992. With the release of their album, "The Good, The Bad and The Funky" (2000), featuring his vocals on the dub-heavy tracks "Time to Bounce"and a remake of Lee Perry's "Soul Fire", Mystic Bowie emerged as a force in his own right as their lead singer. Touring worldwide with the Tom Tom Club since 2000, Mystic's performances have been praised for his seemingly ceaseless supply of energy and the excitement he generates with crowds everywhere. The irresistible vibe of this tour, and Mystic's performances, has been captured magically on the Tom Tom Club's "Live at the Clubhouse" CD (2002). Songs from this period also appear on the Tom Tom Club's DVDs, "Time to Bounce" and "In a Bootleg Style. Mystic also performs solo where he lives in Connecticut, using portions of his proceeds to fund the project he started in Jamaica to bring music to the children through building a youth center to give them somewhere to go where they will learn music and have a place to go where they can keep out of trouble. He has performed at many SONO ArtsFests in Norwalk, CT as the headliner. His energetic vivacious style together with his easy approachability make him a favourite with area fans, Talking Dreads is the brainchild of Head Dread, Mystic Bowie, a Jamaican artist whose long and close relationship with Chris Franz and Tina Weymouth, founding members of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club, began when he joined the latter group as a singer in 1996. He then recorded and performed with Tom Tom Club for nearly twenty years and continues to bear fruit from their unending collaborations. This inaugural effort from Talking Dreads features an amazing lineup of stellar reggae stalwarts including Freddie McGregor (‘Rastaman Camp', Bobby Babylon), ska-guitar master Ernest Ranglin (session player and arranger of Millie's smash ‘My Boy Lollipop', the Melodians ‘Rivers Of Babylon', and countless other tracks), and Tarrus Reilly ('Start Anew', ‘Good Girl Gone Bad') as well as a little help from punk-pop diva Cindy Wilson of the B-52's (‘Rock Lobster', ‘Love Shack'). Talking Heads' music was a formative influence on Mystic Bowie since childhood. For more info

An Album a Day is my exploration into the Korean music scene. This podcast will cover mainstream, indie and some underground artists within the scene and provide both factual and opinionated commentary. The biggest benefit to sharing my thoughts this way is that it will hopefully expose you to more great music and exploration of your own. Several days have passed and we’re back with the show. In a world where fast and consistent content rules the land, and attention spans are shorter than ever, I thank you for being a positive audience and your willingness to wait for me. Now, on this National Teacher’s Day, allow me to turn your attention back to where we left off, class. After School’s discography continues, right after the drop. You’re tuned into An Album a Day. Show start. Hey y’all, we have reached the debut studio album, “Virgin,” a whopping 13 track experience on both Pledis Entertainment and LOEN Entertainment labels. LOEN is now Kakao M and likely assumed co-publishing responsibilities for this album because of a long-standing positive reputation. While Pledis was relatively new on the scene with a year 2007 founding, LOEN was established in 1978. Interestingly enough, Pledis is almost like the new kid on the block again, as it was acquired by Big Hit Entertainment in May 2020. Back to the album. The studio album is less than an hour long but delivers a solid experience. Approaching this April 29, 2011 release date began in 2009, thus setting the scene for anticipation. The group’s ninth member, E-Young, was introduced during this era and there were other big moments for After School, such as their leader’s debut solo project and the first full-length album from subunit Orange Caramel. The group was riding a buzz wave and audiences wanted to hear what was next. Nine new tracks were released, including two as solos for members Raina and Jungah; and three songs were re-recordings. Their third single, “Shampoo,” was added as a radio edit, too. In terms of singles from the album, technically November 2009’s “Because of You” is first and March 2010’s “Bang!” is second. The songs were added to the studio album to create a solid thread, as if to say, “Hey, we know what vibe we want to give you and we’ve been consistent about it for years.” Okay, maybe not to say that specifically but it was clever planning on the production side. By grabbing older tracks and incorporating them into After School’s first studio album, it shows that the direction for their sound, the colors they were intended to create, was solid from the get-go. There wasn’t any experimentation prior that would tarnish the potential of the album “Virgin,” is what I’m saying. Nonetheless, I didn’t wholeheartedly enjoy it. The music production during this time in pop music was hollow. A lot of music sounded like Norway-founded, Los Angeles-based music production duo Stargate (if you need a point of reference, think Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” or much of Rihanna’s “Good Girl Gone Bad” studio album). They were sought after and produced simple songs that put guitars in the spotlight but not a bass. This production style caters to crafting for lyrics and not for musicality. As a music producer who’s focused on instrumentals, I don’t prioritize space for lyrics, but for the various instruments to do the talking. I acknowledge my bias in this review but I also admit boredom with hearing limitations in vocal arrangements as well for After School. They did not attempt anything too drastic. Suffice it to say, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” is the standing motif for this group. That aside, K-pop fans on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being essential listening and 1 not worth mentioning, the A3Day rating on this is a 5. The energy of the album is consistent and though there is a perceived tendency to end on a mellow track, the closing track brings the continuity full-circle. Some versions will have the radio edit of “Shampoo” as the close... Support this podcast

Plus, Kilian spills all on his next creation launching this month – his biggest departure from the 35 existing fragrances he’s created to date. But that’s not all. Last year, Kilian introduced the world to scented lipsticks! Listen to the end to find out whether more perfumed cosmetics are to come… If the name sounds familiar, Kilian Hennessy is indeed of Hennessy ilk. Here, the dapper Frenchman recalls his family’s history starting out in cognac, which led to the LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) empire. Brushes with famous perfumers, intimate details working with a bad boy designer, and the real reason Kilian refused to work for big fragrance companies – whether you love perfume or not, you’ll not want to miss the origin story behind the sleeper label unafraid to make a big statement. It's time for one final induction into the Diva Hall of Fame and Party Favorz is more than pleased to finally honor the one and only Rihanna. Having moved from Barbados to the United States at the age of 16, RiRi began recording demos until her introduction to Jay-z, then head of Def Jam Recordings who ultimately signed her. The first single Pon de Replay taken from her debut album was a top ten hit followed by her second album with the #1 hit SOS. When her third album Good Girl Gone Bad came out all bets were off. Def Jam put a hefty amount of support and promotion behind that album including a dance remix album accompanied its initial release. Umbrella was a certified smash, which solidified RiRi's stature as an international superstar. She can thank Mary J. Blige for passing on that song when it was first offered to her. That track was followed up by other hit singles Take A Bow, Disturbia and Don't Stop the Music, which sampled Michael Jackson's Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', and further solidified her popularity. I don't see any point in re-hashing her relationship with Chris Brown as she's a grown woman and can make her own decisions (even if a good majority of folks disagree). You can hit the gossip sites for that crap. Equally, not much point in listing all of her accomplishments and hit singles. While not completely comprehensive, this set is damn near close. For cohesive reasons, a few songs were left off though Tony Moran and Chris Cox's popular mixes would likely resurface on a future RiRi set. While this may be RiRi's first induction, it certainly won't be her last. It's likely time for her to release a greatest hits comp with a couple of new singles by the end of the year and then follow that up with a massive world tour, but who am I to say. Whatever she does, it will no doubt be a massive success. At this point, I would like to welcome Rihanna into the Diva Hall of Fame, where she is amongst good friends and serious heavyweights. Congratulations! Album : The Diva Series featuring Rihanna Genre : Electro, EDM Year : 2013 Total Time : 01:57:04 1. Only Girl (In The World) (Joey B Electro Remix) 2. Konshens is well on route to becoming a musical powerhouse. Internationally recognized for his contribution to the reggae-dancehall genre, he is now winning hearts among the casual gaming audience with his latest single "Jamaican Dance" featured in the 8-million selling blockbuster Just Dance 3 video game from Ubisoft. His musical career began in early 2005 as part of a duo with his brother Delus. Although their international success has been rewarding, the brothers decided to pursue individual careers. When asked in an interview what prompted this decision, KONSHENS replied "To spread out the attack...we can’t just try to force ourselves onto people. We have to space it out and take time to move in." His debut single "Winner" quickly became a success with more than 670,000 views on YouTube. Its timing was impeccable as the world was in the midst of a financial crisis. It was an instant hit. Follow-up hits include: "This Means Money" and "Good Girl Gone Bad." Next up for Konshens is the release of his single "Jamaican Dance," produced by Ubisoft and Circle Road Records. The video was recently shot on location in Kingston and Montreal. Here at Party Favorz, I don't take a break.okay, once in a while, but when it comes to serving up some of the freshest beats on the circuit, there's no time for disco naps, nor egg hunting. This is the final edition of spring and boy oh boy is it a scorcher! Starting off with Yinon's take on Deborah Cox's "Beautiful U R" which is an amazing prog mix that has a beautiful drop about 2/3 of the way in. Deep, dark and haunting, this is truly an amazing song that is supposed to have a second set of mixes coming out soon. In the meantime, Deborah also collaborated with Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Laidback Luke for the star-studded "Leave the World Behind" which will be featured in my upcoming System Edition; so be on the watch for that. You may be scratching your head and wondering what the hell Acorn, I mean Akon is doing on this mix; especially since he's not a particular favorite of mine. Because Tracy Young worked this song every which way but loose! If you can get past the vocals, Tracy's "Monster Mix" is worth the price of admission. I already mentioned Razor 'n' Guido in my last post, so just know their re-work of the classic "Drop a House" is HOT! The Chriss Ortega mix of "My Life Would Suck Without You" had already appeared on my last BPM Edition, but is the only entry for this song that's worth the play. I really expected more from Tommy Sunshine and Friscia and Lamboy, but they basically turned in a mix that Jason Nevins could have worked out had he been asked to mix the song.eh! Then we've got the return of Depeche Mode and the elusive Peter Rauhofer mix currently only available as a promo. Why they left it off the commercial release is beyond me, because Peter's mix is not only the best but smoldering. I am a little concerned that David's vocals are not up to par, leaving one to wonder. We finally get some new mixes for Rihanna's "Breaking Dishes" and Ralphi, true to form, did not disappoint. I liked the 'Soul Seekerz' mix well enough from the original remix album that was released in conjunction with "Good Girl Gone Bad", but this version brings it to life. I just hope those are Chris' dishes she's breaking; in fact go ahead and bust his balls while you're at it. Probably my biggest disappointment here is the Junior Vasquez take on "Please Don't Leave". An absolutely beautiful song in its own right, I do believe he could have done better. This mix isn't bad but would have been better served with the full vocals. Sadly, P!nk's label didn't commission many mixes for this, though the Digital Dog mix (which appeared on my last BPM Edition) is still the best version and retains all the elements that make this song so moving. One of the weirdest treats in this mix comes from Jipsta's "I Want Your Sex". If you were thinking 'George Michael"', you thought right. I always thought this song was ripe for a remake, but never in a million years did I think a hip-hop/rapper would re-do it. All I can say is HELL YEAH! This song rocks and is accompanied by a ton of excellent mixes. I don't usually use Mike Rizzo except in the BPM mixes, but his slamming take warranted inclusion. The Perry Twins in collaboration with Niki Haris turn in a really fun song and is considerably beefed-up mix by the Escape & Capello team, who are currently riding high with one club hit after another. Another welcome surprise comes from Cevin Fisher. After last year's remake of his classic "You Got Me (Burnin' Up)", Cevin dove right back in his bag of goodies and brought out another classic "The Freaks Come Out". As with the last release, the mixes for this song are all stellar. I went with the Prok & Fitch remix because they are one of the underground darlings in the house scene at the moment and deliver a very memorable grind for this song. This is going to be HUGE! Capping off the mix, Nick Harvey delivers a tribal lover's dream with "Beat on the Drum" and the amazing Allan Natal take on Luis Erre's "...
