This week on Political Breakfast, the team responds to a recent Newsweek article that has attorneys for former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows calling the Georgia election interference case "unglued." Meadows was indicted along with former president Donald Trump and others as part of the RICO case being prosecuted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Democratic Strategist Tharon Johnson, Republican Strategist Brian Robinson and host Lisa Rayam share throughts on whether the Meadows case is in fact falling apart, or if Willis and her team are in a strategic position to prosecute. Georgia Republicans have been hell-bent on diverting taxpayer funds to give money to private school students' parents, and they're as close as ever before to getting their way. It's impossible to see how this is anything more than a subsidy for households who can already afford the tuition or how it benefits students from poor households or those with exceptional needs. We've seen how this goes elsewhere (and provide proof). I'm also joined by Dom Kelly, co-founder & CEO of New Disabled South, who weighs in on private schools being allowed to take public dollars soon while still discriminating without blowback. He and I also discuss the ongoing humanitarian criss in Gaza. As a Jewish American millennial, he's at odds with older Jewish Americans - his liberal grandmother included - in his opposition to Israel's continued aggression in Gaza (and the West Bank). Listen as we navigate that relationship and the complexities the Biden administration faces in keeping a fragile coalition together where it appears there's no way to make everyone happy with the result. BREAKING: Judge Scott McAfee renders a verdict on the Fulton DA disqualification attempt, giving Fani Willis the decision to either recuse herself and her entire office or have special prosecutor Nathan Wade step aside.

GDP Script/ Top Stories for Mar 8th Publish Date: Mar 7th From the Ingles Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Friday, March 8th, and Happy 78th Birthday to The Monkees Micky Dolenz. ***03.08.24 – BIRTHDAY – MICKY DOLENZ*** I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Tom Wages Funeral Home. Second Suspect Arrested for Allegedly Impersonating a Federal Agent During Home Invasion Duluth Police Finish Expansion of Real Time Crime Center 7 Tips for making college more affordable All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: WAGES STORY 1: Second Suspect Arrested For Allegedly Impersonating a Federal Agent During Home Invasion Yenson Adrian Cedeno Acevedo, a second suspect in a Lawrenceville home invasion case, has been apprehended by the Gwinnett County Police. The incident, which took place in December, involved three individuals who posed as federal agents to gain entry into an apartment. The culprits then restrained a father and son duo using zip ties and proceeded to rob them of their possessions. At the time of his arrest, Acevedo was already detained on separate charges. Another suspect, Luis Soto, had been taken into custody earlier, with police discovering tactical equipment and stolen items connected to the crime in his possession. The police investigation is still underway, and they urge anyone with further information to reach out to local authorities or provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers. STORY 2: Duluth Police Finish Expansion of Real Time Crime Center The Duluth Police Department has announced the completion of its Real Time Crime Center's expansion. The center, founded in 2017, employs a combination of advanced technology and a dedicated team of analysts to manage immediate crises and aid in crime resolution. The latest expansion has resulted in increased space and upgraded technology, boosting the total number of surveillance cameras to approximately 400. This expansion signifies a major step forward in Duluth's dedication to public safety, enabling the center to function as a comprehensive hub for crime response. Analysts are now able to offer precise support to officers during ongoing criminal activities and city events, while also ensuring smooth collaboration with neighboring law enforcement agencies. STORY 3: 7 Tips for Helping You Afford College The average in-state tuition at public colleges has climbed to over $10,000, while private colleges are averaging a steep $42,162. However, Estephany Flores, a staunch advocate for financial aid, urges students not to be discouraged by these numbers. She highlights the importance of viewing a college education as a future investment. Flores points out that dual enrollment programs, which allow high school students to accrue college credits, are often overlooked resources that can substantially cut down tuition costs. Dr. Reanna Berry, an Associate Professor, offers several strategies to help offset tuition expenses. These include early savings plans, pursuing two-year degrees, enrolling as transient students, taking AP/IB classes, applying for grants, and exploring work-study opportunities. Dr. Berry cautions students against depending on loans as their primary financial solution and alerts them to potential scams aimed at those seeking college funding. Despite the financial hurdles, Gwinnett College continues to maintain its affordability, providing a wide range of options for financial assistance. Flores encourages students to contact the college's financial aid office for tailored advice and support in navigating the financial aspects of college education. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back. Break 2: INGLES 1 STORY 4: LAKO: Found money: Should you use an old 401(k) to pay off a child's student loans? Many parents harbor the desire to financially support their adult children, which is a factor that should be considered during financial planning. Some may discover dormant 401(k) accounts and consider utilizing these funds to settle their child's student loans. However, drawing from retirement accounts for this purpose can trigger penalties and taxes, thereby diminishing the sum available for debt repayment. The decision between investing for the future or paying off debt needs careful consideration, considering aspects such as interest rates and potential returns on investments. Financial experts typically discourage depleting retirement savings, instead proposing alternative strategies such as reallocating current savings or assisting with loan payments directly from regular income. STORY 5: Lawyer accusing Fulton DA of conflict details accusations of misconduct at Georgia Senate hearing Ashleigh Merchant, the legal counsel for Michael Roman, appeared before a state Senate committee to testify about her discovery of an alleged romantic relationship between Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade. Merchant initiated a motion to have Willis disqualified from the Trump election interference case because of this alleged affair. Details of the affair were revealed by Terrence Bradley, Wade's previous law partner, who voiced concerns about Wade's behavior. In response to these allegations, the Senate committee issued a subpoena to Merchant to delve deeper into the accusations, concentrating on potential conflicts of interest and monetary rewards in the case. Despite the ongoing controversy, Willis reiterated her commitment to continue with the felony racketeering case against Trump and his associates. STORY 6: Vidalia onions headed to grocery shelves April 17 Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper, in collaboration with the Vidalia Onion Committee, has declared April 17th as the official pack date for the 2024 Vidalia onion season. Famed for their distinctive sweet taste, Vidalia onions will be accessible in supermarkets across the country from April until early September. The determination of the pack date is influenced by factors such as soil and weather conditions, which serve to ensure the superior quality of the onions. With approximately 11,000 acres set aside for cultivation during the 2024 season, producers are optimistic about another prosperous year. Vidalia onions, unique to 20 counties in southern Georgia due to specific environmental conditions, are protected under federal and state legislation. STORY 7: Statham's Brian Harris Named Jackson EMC Vice President of Information Technology Brian Harris, hailing from Statham, has been named as the new Vice President of Information Technology at Jackson EMC, taking over from Jeff Keen who is set to retire after 41 years of dedicated service. In his previous role as Director of IT Infrastructure and Data Integrity, Harris was responsible for leading the cooperative's cybersecurity program and the Incident Response Team. In his new position, Harris will be tasked with spearheading technological advancements at Jackson EMC, focusing on infrastructure, collaboration, implementation, and support. Harris brings a wealth of experience to the role, having been a part of the cooperative since 1997 and serving in various capacities throughout the years. Harris is an alumnus of the University of Georgia, holding a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems, and is an active member of InfraGard. Jackson EMC, with its headquarters located in Jefferson, Georgia, provides service to over 260,000 meters across 15,000 miles of energized wire. We'll have final thoughts after this. Today's show opens with Nikki Haley dropping out of the GOP primary after being destroyed once again by Donald Trump. And on the heels of that Super Tuesday whipping, MSNBC had the task of discussing some polling around Trump and Biden. It seems the Trump supporters are rock solid, while Biden continues to lose ground. What did not go well for MSNBC on primary night was their mockery of voters in Virginia who said the border was one of their biggest concerns. Jen Psaki and Rachel Maddow and others on the panel laughed and derided them, making jokes and dismissing such thoughts as unsophisticated and stupid. The backlash continues to grow, yet you still cannot despise them enough for such arrogance elitism. They have dismissed all of the murders, rapes and other crimes that have been plaguing our country at the hands of illegals. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson from the state of Michigan allowed her pride and ego to get her to admit that she and five other Secretaries of State, all the 2020 battleground states, were in contact with each other before the election. She all but admitted they had a plan to overturn a Trump victory and then blame it on a “common adversary.” I continue to tell you, the Left will always accuse the other side of the very things they themselves are doing. She then adds that since 2022, Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada have worked on their collusion even more and are ready for 2024. Next we dive into the Georgia Senate Committee Hearing on possible criminality in the Fulton County DA's office. They had attorney Ashleigh Merchant before them and took her testimony about what she learned before bringing her request to dismiss Fani Willis and Nathan Wade for a conflict of interest. It was stunning to hear the information she had gathered that had not been part of (or allowed in) the evidentiary hearing. If I were Fani Willis, I would be praying that the worst that happens is she is removed from the case and only disbarred for her conduct. However, it seems this investigation is only just now getting underway. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had a conniption when asked why President Biden always needs note cards. After she goes off on a condescending rant full of lies and deceit, we get a clip of Joe Biden who cannot even read his teleprompter anymore. Frank Herbert, the author of Dune, once said, “All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupt, but that it is magnetic to the corruptible.” Seems appropriate to consider with all of the lawfare and Machiavellian deceit being perpetrated on the American people today. Senator Katie Britt, who will deliver the minority response to the State of the Union, just introduced a bill that should be a 100-0 vote in a sane world. The bill simply says illegal immigrants cannot vote in Federal elections. Let's see which Democrats choose to not support such a bill. I think we will see who are anti-Constitutionalists really are. Finally, we get an episode of Deep Thoughts with VP Kamala Harris. It seems she wanted to weigh-in on firefighters and how to make them better. It's a wonderful sample of word salad as only our Vice President knows how to serve. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. A superior court judge plans to schedule a day for arguments in coming weeks before ruling on whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be disqualified from the Georgia election interference case against former President Donald Trump and his allies. She finished two days of testimony on Friday. Judge Scott McAfee must determine if a romantic relationship between Willis and prosecutor Nathan Wade created a disqualifying conflict. And state lawmakers advanced a bill this week aimed at improving Georgia's maternal and infant healthcare, an issue where the state ranks very poorly. And a new bill targets the American Library Association over books that have a diverse or LGBTQ+ perspective. Even after today's wild courtroom antics, I maintain Fani Willis erred in hiring (or continuing to work with) someone she was having a romantic relationship with, and I've been saying for days now her and her office's work thus far on the Trump election interference case is best served from she and Nathan Wade taking that "leave of absence" Georgia State University professor Clark Cunningham suggested. Today, however, she may have salvaged that work; it'll come down to Scott McAfee after what may be another wild day of the embattled Fulton DA under oath. The thing is, the plan here isn't much different than it was with Bill Clinton's impeachment: it isn't about the sex if you can get someone to perjure. Today, Nathan and Fani seem to come through unscathed. Ho hum; American mass-shooting. PBS NewsHour gave it about sixty seconds of coverage. It's that common in our country. So we're learning the mass shooting in Kansas City was likely not terrorist-related but an outbreak of a personal disagreement between minors. MINORS in public with guns. Because, Missour and it's lax-as-hell gun laws. Back at home - surprise - no-excuse absentee voting survived the new-fangled Georgia Election commission's vote. Huzzah!

Former presidential candidate and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson previews the New Hampshire primary. Today on The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's “Politically Georgia,” the hosts welcome Hutchinson, who earlier this week ended his long shot bid for the GOP presidential nomination. Hutchinson ran as a mainstream conservative Republican who warned that putting Donald Trump back in the White House would be bad for the country. He dropped out of the race when he finished sixth in the Iowa caucuses and acknowledged that “my message of being a principled Republican with experience and telling the truth about the current front-runner did not sell in Iowa.” Then, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis filed a fiery motion responding to allegations that she had been in an inappropriate relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor she hired to oversee the Trump election conspiracy case. Willis attempted to quash a subpoena from Wade's estranged wife to testify in the couple's divorce case. Willis says Wade's wife is trying to derail her prosecution of Trump and his co-conspirators. Plus, the U.S. House and Senate passed a continuing resolution to keep the government running for another two months. But five Georgia Republicans voted against the measure. Tia Mitchell explains why. Links to today's topics: OPINION: Asa Hutchinson warns GOP is “headed toward a cliff.' While it's unclear who leaked proffer testimony from the Fulton DA case (mounting) against Donald Trump, it's also unclear how it - in any way - helps Trump or any of his associates, and yet the DA's office seems to think Harrison Floyd's folks leaked to ABC News. Regardless, I've the audio and will share some key moments revealed, as well as Fani Willis at a WaPo conference earlier today revealing how long she thinks the case will take. What's up with all the GOP bravado today? Ya got a Senator wanting to duke it out with a Teamster boss (they've had a previous shouting match) and Kevin McCarthy elbowing a GOP House member who voted to oust him like this is in ANY way "routine business" in Congress. Matt Scott from Atlanta Community Press Collective joined me today to explain how he believes journalists covering yesterday's "Block Cop City" protests and march were targeted by Dekalb police with tear gas. He also gave us an update on the RICO indictments and the referendum. Lastly, a Grammy-nominated artist had a captive audience on a Delta flight, but thankfully an attendant pulled the plug on her impromptu performance. Yeah, I said it.

Trump's lawyers also want Fulton District Attorney Fani Willis disqualified from pursuing charges.Plus, Republicans came into this year's session with a handful of top priorities, including a plan to reign-in so-called "rogue prosecutors." Willis calls the sudden oversight push racist, as Georgians just elected more minority DAs to office in 2020 than ever before. When 16 Georgia Republicans met at the state Capitol on Dec. 14, 2020, they cast Electoral College votes for Donald Trump, who had not won the state's presidential election. The 16th episode of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Breakdown podcast – “The Trump Grand Jury” — revisits what happened that day and the consequences going forward. The false electors cast their votes the same day 16 Democrats, the official Electoral College electors, publicly cast votes for the man who'd been certified as the victor: President Joe Biden. Fulton County prosecutors heading the special purpose grand jury investigation of former president Trump and his allies have notified the 16 fake electors that they are targets of the probe. This means they could be criminally charged for what they did. In the episode “The Fake Electors,” Breakdown hears from three reporters — the AJC's Greg Bluestein, Channel 2 Action News' Richard Elliot and independent journalist George Chidi — who stumbled across the GOP meeting where the GOP “electors” cast votes that were later sent to Congress and the National Archives. The podcast also interviews legal experts who are closely following the case and who give their takes on what occurred. Among those members of the phony slate of Republican electors trying to overturn Biden's victory was state Sen. Burt Jones, the GOP nominee for lieutenant governor. This summer, Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney handed Jones a victory by disqualifying the Fulton DA's office from further investigating him because District Attorney Fani Willis hosted a fundraiser for Jones' opponent, Democrat Charlie Bailey. But Jones is not in the clear yet. The Prosecuting Attorneys Council of Georgia now has jurisdiction and could appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Jones. This means Jones, who is leading in the polls in the race for lieutenant governor, could face a possible indictment.
