Matty P Radio Presents: Marks v. Pros & Saturday Morning Cereal
Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week we catch a movie, the San Diego Comic-Con way! Going back to the early aughts and our groups very first encounters with Comic-Con, there has always been one thing that you can count on to be great in every way… the DC Animated Movie Premiere! That's right, for many of us Comic-Con goers, the very first signs that comic books were about to hit the mainstream were watching those very same books, not just superheroes, leap from page to screen. This all started with the 2007 release of Superman: Doomsday a faithful adaptation of the Death of Superman event that saw the death and resurrection of the worlds greatest and 1st superhero. It was a glorious event that was celebrated with SWAG, exhibits, a world premier and panel. Since that awesome night, SDCC has seen many fan favs like, Batman: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, Flashpoint Paradox, and The Killing Joke. So, let's look at SDCC's DC Animated Movie Premiere Nights through the lens of SDCC22 and the release of Green Lantern: Beware My Power with some of the movie's voice talent including AldisHodge (Black Adam), “Green Lantern John Stewart”, JimmiSimpson (Westworld), “Green Arrow”, JamieGrayHyder (Law & Order: SVU), “Hawkgirl”, BrianBloom, (The A-Team), "Adam Strange". Join Grim Shea, Marke, and Jimmy the Gent as they watch a comic book come to life in maybe the best way possible, with a SDCC crowd of fans who celebrate those themes of Saturday Morning TV!
Join Michael and Stephen as they dive into the DC animated movie, "Green Lantern: Beware My Power." In this episode, our resident comic book experts provide an in-depth review of the film, discussing everything from the animation style to the voice acting and storyline. Listeners will get insights into the characters and themes explored throughout. Don't miss out on this thrilling episode as we shine a light on one of the most beloved Green Lantern stories of all time!

In this week's episode, Matt & Alex pull double duty to talk about two DC Animated films that released this year - Green Lantern: Beware My Power and DC Showcase: Constantine - House of Mystery. Matt thinks any Groundhog Day style homage should legally be required to feature Bill Murray, Alex thinks the Green Lantern could really be jazzed up with a ska version, and they both want to solve mysteries with a 1960s Blue Beetle & The Question. We liked it, so we put a ring on it! Chamar and Andrew are back with yet another iconic DC story being put on the animation table with the 2022 film Green Lantern: Beware My Power. In this Sweet or Sour episode, our favorite Green Lantern John Stewart finally gets a feature length film showing his origin story when he is thrown headfirst into a galactic war between Hawkgirl and the Thanagarians against Adam Strange and the Rannians. As always, we are here to ask the big questions: Does the story make sense? How does it compare to the comic? And most importantly, has the film remained sweet, or has it soured over time? Also, follow Yet Another DC Animated Podcast on social media or check us out at Forgotten Entertainment.

#163 Triangle of Sadness, Watcher, The Bourne Identity Halloween winds down with a hefty dose of horror flicks in Recent Discoveries and our review of a thriller. Watcher is about the unnerving feeling of being watched and becoming a watcher yourself as an American tourist; as a serial killer is on the loose, beheading women. Triangle of Sadness is a tearing down of the social order and class structure set on a yacht first, then on an island. Does power always corrupt? The Bourne Identity celebrates its 20th anniversary as a stellar and unique action film with a cool ‘amnesia' premise. Warning: Do not listen to this episode unless you have seen the Warner Bros. Animation/DC Universe 2022 film, “Green Lantern: Beware My Power” or do not mind hearing key plot points. It is an origin story for John Stewart, who receives a power ring. The film was co-written by John Semper and Ernie Altbacker. Semper discussed the movie in Episode 291 of the show. Altbacker rejoined the podcast after his initial appearance in Episode 261 to review the film. Green Lantern Beware My Power review
There is so much to talk about this week that everything couldn't even fit into the title lol. First and foremost, Queen Bey is back!!! It's been 6 years since Beyoncé has come out with a solo studio album, and this weekend she released her seventh studio album "Renaissance" (1:38). We got the chance to catch up on quite a bit in the movie and TV worlds as well over the week. In the movie world we got a chance to checkout "DC League of Super-Pets" (19:05), the latest animated family adventure featuring the pets of our favorite DC superheroes, "Green Lantern: Beware My Power" (33:47) a new DC animated film starring John Stewart's Green Lantern, and "The Bob's Burgers Movie" (41:42), the feature film based off the tv show with the same name. So, a lot of animation. In the TV world, we have some premieres. The first 3 episodes of "Harley Quinn" (48:15) season 3 are now on HBO Max! After a 2 year hiatus due to the pandemic, it's time for some more Harley and Ivy shenanigans. Also a brand new show from Issa Rae, "Rap Sh!t" (55:46) premiered last week on HBO. Only the first 3 episode of the series are out so far, but what kind of tone does it set for the show? We also got the chance to checkout a couple of documentaries including "Milestone Generations"(1:05:31), about the making and ongoing legacy of Milestone comics, and "Light & Magic" (1:13:41), a docuseries about the history of the special and visual effects division of Lucasfilm. We also do a brief rundown of one of the biggest wrestling events of the year, WWE's "SummerSlam" (1:22:23). News of the Week (1:37:49) 2BlackNerds.com (Song: Cuff It x Beyoncé)
The Tomorrowverse continues! Directed by Jeff Wamester, Green Lantern: Beware My Power is the animated superhero featuring the title character. Recently discharged Marine sniper John Stewart (Aldis Hodge) is at a crossroads in his life, one which is only complicated by receiving an extra-terrestrial ring which grants him the powers of the Green Lantern of Earth. Now, with the aid of the light-hearted Green Arrow, Adam Strange and Hawkgirl, this reluctant soldier must journey into the heart of a galactic Rann/Thanagar war and somehow succeed where all other Green Lanterns have failed.

This is Part 2 of a conversation with writer/producer John Semper. While last week's show focused on his entire career, including the upcoming Green Lantern: Beware My Power, his definitive work is the 1990s animated series based on Spider-Man. In this conversation, Semper details how the show came about, including Marvel's bankruptcy at the time. He discusses how starting with Season 2, he had very little restraints on what stories he could do and used so many Marvel characters it is considered the predecessor to the current Marvel Cinematic Universe. Semper discussed the “fate” of Mary Jane in the show, his decision to crossover with the X-Men, and the introduction of the “Spider-Verse” in the finale. He also praised the incredible voice cast for the show. Follow John Semper on social media @johnsemper.
Acclaimed animation writer/producer John Semper joins the podcast in anticipation of the new Warner Bros. Animation / DC Universe upcoming release “Green Lantern: Beware My Power,” which is released on Blu-Ray/Digital on 7/26, which he co-wrote with Ernie Altbacker (HOJ Ep 261). Semper is the creator and executive producer of the classic 90's Spider-Man: The Animated Series and has been requested for this podcast since the very beginning. In this episode, Semper explains why he thinks the new Green Lantern film is his best work since Spider-Man. He also discusses his 40-year career in animation, including his work on the Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians (the final season of Super Friends) and the last two seasons of Static Shock. He also discusses the impact of being a pioneer for African-Americans in the animation field. Finally, he is passionate about giving comic creators credit for their creations, especially as more superhero projects are made into shows and films. Note: This episode is Part 1 of 2 with John Semper. Next week will focus solely on Spider-Man: The Animated Series, with an in-depth discussion on the creation and impact of that classic show.
