Driven by his faith, family, and belief in the American Dream, Hermes brings a blend of "gunpowder country" to his music, influenced by Metallica, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith, and Bon Jovi. His sound is characterized by intense, soulful vocals and raw, honest lyrics. Hermes made his official debut in 2020 with the EP "SOULS WITH STONES," produced by renowned music producer Buddy Hyatt. In 2023, he released his full-length CD, "ROCKIN' A COUNTRY TOWN," co-produced with Oliver. The album features original songs written alongside Dan Couch and Big Vinny Hickerson, including tracks like "Stronger Than Whiskey," "SkyFall," and "Used To Be Me," which reached No. 46 on the MusicRow Country Breakout Chart. Hermes has quickly gained support from country radio, fans, and his peers. Over three years, he has shared the stage with top country artists such as David Nail, Ward Davis, Craig Campbell, Kolby Cooper, and Kinsey Rose from The Voice. He has also established a presence in the Rock 'n Roll arena, opening for acts like Uncle Kracker, Black Stone Cherry, Head East, Jackyl, and Lita Ford. John Schlitt and Benny DiChiara are blessed with distinctive rock and roll voices. They realize they have God-given gifts and they are using them to spread His Gospel. In this podcast, they both reveal their desire is to spread the love of Jesus to as many as possible because they believe we are living in the end times.John Schlitt has never worked harder in music than now. He has been singing with Petra for the last couple of years on their 50th Anniversary Tour, recording and performing with the Jay Sekulow Band. But early in his career he almost lost everything including his life. He says, “God saved me but not my career. I went from rockstar to floor sweeper. But God then gave me a second chance to use my gift for his glory. If we each us our gift for the Lord, He will amplify it manyfold. “Benny DiChiara shares a powerful story of a recent performance with his band “Empowered.” In the middle of the third song, they had a major technical problem. As the sound man scrambled to fix the problem, Benny asked the audience if anyone needed prayer. What happened next was life-changing for the band and the person needing prayer. “Dead space on stage kills and dead space in your life kills as well. God took ten minutes of our concert to change lives,” Benny explains. Don't miss this powerful backstage podcast with two of Christian rock's most influential voices. Season 3 Part 8 of the Travels With Randy Podcast is here! Head East Old Man! Listen - a man who wants to circle the entire country can't stay in one place forever, right? So it's been a fun 10 days or so of home-basing in Quartzsite, AZ during the week and then heading on over to Phoenix for some baseball on the weekends for Randy. He watched several more Angel games and managed to get out and about, visiting some of the fascinating old mining towns-turned-t-shirt-souvenir-shop towns. This round he focused on the old mining town of Globe, AZ and its' sister city Paris, AZ. No gold was found, however. Now, it's time to pack up and wave goodbye to Quartzsite for the 'season' - Randy is headed east. He'll be spending some time in New Mexico finishing up his original goal all those podcasts ago of visiting every US National Park - the Big 63. He'll knock three of the four remaining ones off his list - White Sands, NM, Big Bend, TX, and Carlsbad Caverns, NM. He'll then drive down to the Texas border and basically follow it all the way across Texas and hit Louisiana as he heads towards New Orleans. John Schlitt first rose to success as the lead singer for popular 70s rock band Head East. Fired from Head East in 1980 because of his alcohol and drug addiction, Schlitt left music behind for five years. It was during that time that the singer was led to Christ through the witness of his wife, Dorla, and their pastor, a decision that also led to Schlitt leaving behind his addiction.

He spent more than 20 years with them, earning four Grammy Awards, numerous Dove Awards, and garnered two-certified Gold Records. For the last 16 years he has worked primarily as a solo artist and has toured all over the world. Hello and welcome to episode 65 of Tasty Pages, a podcast by Cooking The Books! We discuss 'Black Food', a collection of essays, poetry, artwork and recipes celebrating the African diaspora, edited by Bryant Terry. This is the first release on Terry's new imprint, 4 Color Books. We also chat about our recent visit to the Food & Wine Experience in Minneapolis - which was a bit lacking in the "food" portion. Victoria updates us on her progress as a pottery prodigy. Our show topic is: What are some record album covers with food on them? (We have a blog post on our web site with photos of some.) This leads to a deep dive into perhaps the most iconic example - Herb Alpert's 'Whipped Cream & Other Delights'! Johnny also takes a stroll down memory lane and shares stories about the time his band opened for 70's rock band Head East. We also have an installment of our "Food For Thought: Food idioms explained" as we explore the origins of the phrase "Not my cup of tea". Of course, there's a food joke - two, in fact. Because Victoria hated the first one. Good thing Johnny was prepared with a backup! You can purchase the book at https://amzn.to/3LmjGtE (as an Amazon affiliate, we earn from qualifying purchases). Former Petra lead singer John Schlitt spends the full show with Tim today. Quite a privilege to have one of the most recognizable voices in Christian music the past 30+ years , including 20 years (and 16 albums) as the front man for Petra. Schlitt shares about his childhood, college years and first big band (Head East), including how as the band grew, John’s personal life spiraled into a life of cocaine and alcohol abuse. Fired by the band in 1980, Schlitt hit rock bottom and was on the brink of suicide. He shares how God got ahold of him (including the role his wife played), the laying down of the music, and the crazy path to becoming the new lead singer of Petra (replacing Greg X. Volz—Petra’s original lead singer—in 1986). John also shares thoughts about some of Petra’s albums, his new band The Union of Sinners & Saints (including their forthcoming “Storyteller / Living Room” tour which may be within reach of local groups to book), and his collaboration with the Jay Sekulow Band.
