Send us a textWe're joined by Stuart Weaver for today's episode.Recommended to us by previous guest, Jamie Orr's mum no less, Stuart is a survivor of male breast cancer, and met Sally Orr through her work in this field. Stuart's parents have had their fair share of MG's - and some of them are still in the family now.His Dad beat Adam Faith to a red MGA, and was due to use it as Stuart's wedding car. However, a ladder fell on it the night before, and it's never really be used since. His Mum used to drive him around in a Fiat 500, but has had a couple of MG BGT's and currently there's a blue one on his parents drive awaiting re-commissioning. We also touch on Stuart's history with breast cancer, and we urge you to take 2 minutes to check yourselves over, and report any suspicious lumps or discharges to your Doctor ASAP. We should add, we're publishing this on April 15th, which by sheer fluke is Stuart's Dads birthday!! We hope you enjoy this episode! Support the showWe'd love you to hear and share your stories, please tag and follow us on social media. www.instagram.com/mydadscar_podcastwww.Facebook.com/mydadscar podcastwww.buymeacoffee.com/mydadscarIf you'd like to support the podcast and are able to, you can ‘buy us a coffee' which will help towards costs of hosting and purchasing equipment to allow us to record guests in person, rather than just on zoom. Triumph and Disaster: A Journey Inside Centre Court

Laura Robson, Jack Draper and Alfie Hewett are back together for the second part in their pre-Wimbledon podcast series celebrating 100 years of Centre Court. This is all about Jack; growing up in a tennis household, football vying for his attention before teenage tastes of Centre cemented his love for rackets and balls. In a short space of time, he's gone from promising junior to top-100 threat; with a set off Djokovic at Wimbledon 2021 and four challenger titles already in 2022. Settle back and enjoy Jack's story, which is only really beginning... Time Codes: 01:05 Jack sheds light on the injury which ruled him out of Roland Garros. 01:50 Alfie talks about winning the Barcelona Open and reuniting with Gordon Reid in Paris (episode recorded before Roland Garros). 02:40 Jack talks about his earliest tennis memory in Sutton, south west of London. Realising his love for the game. 03:25 His Mum was a junior champion and his Dad ran the LTA but does Alfie have any tennis connections?! 04:30 We all follow matches from dodgy court feeds and live scores, but what about when it's a tennis parent? 05:30 Superstitions and rituals of nervous parents. 06:20 Jack talks about his two-year spell at the Chelsea FC Academy in Cobham. What did he wear on his first day? 07:05 Did he ever have to make a decision between tennis and footaball, and what was the turning point? 07:45 So does it matter if you come from a tennis family? Jack says "everyone has a different story", Laura agrees. 09:05 More on Jack's early memories of Centre Court, especially watching Andy Murray win Wimbledon in 2013. We get quite a bit of detail, much to Laura and Alfie's amusement! 10:50 Jack was 11 at the time; was that the moment which made him believe he could become a pro? 11:30 Tim Henman time! 12:30 Jack talks about his epic semi-final in the boys' singles match in 2018, played on Court 3, and then the sold-out final on Court 1. 13:45 Alfie's interested in the transition from juniors to seniors; Jack gives interesting perspective on his journey. 14:15 Laura has huge experience of this, of course. She talks about the big difference between Wimbledon and the other Grand Slams. 15:15 Laura's keen to know if Jack met any good celebs. This takes us down an unexpected backroad... 16:45 We have a winner in the impromptu "most famous person you've met at Wimbledon" competition. A clear winner... 17:25 So. Wimbledon 2021. Round 1; Day 1. Centre Court. Jack Draper (wild card) versus Novak Djokovic (top seed, defending champion). What an experience. 18:45 Laura's keen to know what he learned from his Centre Court debut. Jack talks about the morning of the match and the weird sensation. 19:40 Alfie's straight to the point; how on earth did he win the first set?!? 20:30 Ticket requests and distant friends. Jack gets a casual invitation after the Djokovic match. 21:45 Having tasted the big time on the biggest stage, has that given him the taste for more?! 22:25 Queens next week. He beat Sinner and Bublik there last year, for his first ATP wins. A lot has happened since! Credits: Production: Jonathan Overend and Danny Garlick. Mastering: Lee Sparey. Music: Dan Compton. As a baby, Emmanuel Kelly was found by soldiers, barely alive in a shoe box in Iraq. He was then taken to the Mother Theresa Orphanage in Bagdad with no birth certificate, no identity. It is nothing short of a miracle he is alive today. His Mum, Humanitarian Moira Kelly, met and fostered Emmanuel and his now brother Ahmed after they spent a harrowing 7 or so years living as children of war. Over the next 14 years, Emmanuel had 6 surgeries and overcame massive obstacles to learn to walk and feed himself with a knife and fork. He captured people’s hearts across the globe with his heartfelt- Yoko Ono endorsed- rendition of Imagine on the X-Factor in 2011 (viewed by over a billion people). Today, Emmanuel resides in the US, the first differently abled superstar, speaker, actor and entrepreneur. Emmanuel Kelly is breaking the walls of discrimination and building a bridge to a world filled with inclusion and embracing diversity. Some or Emmanuel's friends, business partners and supporters include Jordin Sparks , Coldplay's Chris Martin, Terrence Howard, Iggy Azalea , Val Kilmer and the legendary producer Brian Grazer. On today’s show James chats to Roger Woodall, Founder of Bournemouth 7s, the world's leading sports and music festival . Roger grew up in pubs in London and became very streetwise to the world of business very fast, having watched dealings of all descriptions going on! His Mum’s simple but powerful business lesson of ‘think about £1 a man’ led to him earning £20 in 45 mins by selling VIP tickets to the club next door to the family’s pub at the age of 10. 20 quid in 45 mins was good money in the 80’s, especially for a kid of 10! As well as an acumen for business Roger was a successful university rugby player and went semi-pro after graduation playing in the academy for some of the UK’s best clubs.  Aside from sports, he was also throwing parties in the local nightclubs in his final year, with about 2,000 students attending every week, which led to him realising that he’d created a replicable business model that he could roll-out to university towns and cities around the UK. After a decade of putting on a dozen events a week up and down the the country Roger decided he wanted to scale in a new way, so created a sport and music festival, Bournemouth 7s, which now  attracts over 30,000 festival goers and 400 sports teams each year from all over the world, making it the planet’s biggest sport and music festival.  In this episode you will hear:  * Roger’s unique start in ‘business’ at the age of 10 * The power of being you  * How to mix your passion and create opportunity * How Roger scaled his University events business nationally * What challenges the recent Pandemic has created for the events sector * Roger’s future plans for the amazing festival brand he has created  Connect with Dodge https://www.linkedin.com/in/eventfulentrepreneur/ ——————————————— Connect with James https://www.instagram.com/jamesburttofficial/ If you’re an entrepreneur or business owner that is interested in blowing up your brand using the power of audio, check  out the ULTIMATE PODCAST GROUP, the team that make this very podcast http://bit.ly/ultimatepodcastgroup

Relationships with Casanova Brooks Who would have thought that a man who once had no home to house his family in and no job to earn income, would've locked in 46 real estate deals in his first year as a real estate agent! All through the power of relationships.   How Did You Get To Where You Are Today?    Casanova grew up in Chicago with his single mum. He was an only child on his mum's side and his dad was never around. Not having a father figure to show him what financial literacy or entrepreneurship looked like, he had to face this on his own. His Mum and Grandma was never lacking love and support, but could never teach him the skills he needed.   Brooks would find himself reading Forbes and watching shows of rich successful pioneers. That was what he wanted to be. It gave him a lot of hope and dreamer mentality, knowing he could be one of those people. All he needed to do was find out what their story was and how they got there. Be The Lord Of Your Land Cassanova didn't know what path he wanted to take in life until he came across a certain video. It was a man who was big in real estate and said "you need to be the lord of your land". This really struck a chord with him as no one in his family actually owned anything. Cassanova didn't know anything about being an investor but he did know he can build relationships with the best of people and help them to try to buy or sell.     After 4 months, he received his real estate license but Unfortunately, his mum passed away a week later. This lead to him losing his mum and his job in the space of 2 weeks. For Casanova, this pushed him even more. In just 9 months he did 46 deals and 8 million dollars in volume and rookie of the year.   What's Your Secret to Real Estate? There were two main steps that lead him to success. At an early age, he learnt that relationships were the true currency to all success. If you help enough people get what they want, you will get whatever you want. In business, you need to find out who is your target market? who is your audience? Although it's needed, a lot of the time he thinks we allow that to allow us to stay stagnant. As long as he can go out and build relationships, it wouldn't matter what product or service it was. People don't buy what you sell, they buy why you do it and who you are. What Do You Do Currently? Currently doing real estate and investing, Casanova doesn't like to think of himself as a real estate guy. Although a lot of people come to him wanting to specialize in one thing, he doesn't.  What he's specialized in, is really just relationships. Connection. For him, looking at real estate is a business. But when you start out as a realtor, you're really just building a "start up". You have to build your impact, your influence, and your income. Your leverage. That's it from Casanova but what an amazing guest he was. If you would like to know more about helping people and showcasing how building a bulletproof mindset & meaningful relationships then click here.   Want to know more about Graham and what he does (marke...

Philip McKernan, the modern-day philosopher of the human experience, is a guy who truly wants to get behind the curtain to help us seek real clarity and move past our roadblocks. Philip gets beyond the seen and unseen blocks in our minds to develop a clear path to our dreams. He believes the way to a happy and fulfilling life is through the meaning we derive in life through our work, our relationships, and the most important relationship of all, the relationship with one's self.   When people ask Philip what he does, how does he like to reply? If I ask his wife, Pauline, what he does, what would she say? His Mum said that even at a young age, people would come to Philip to help them sort out particular problems - why? What is the sense Philip gets when someone isn't truthful to themselves? What does he feel? Is there a difference between hearing and listening? When someone answers a question, Philip gets a sense there is more that they are not saying. How does he know? Is dissension from the right place valuable? Philip felt he wasn't heard as a child. How is he going about making sure his children feel they are honestly heard? By not showing vulnerability as parents are we being of a disservice to our kids? What story did Philip tell himself that held him back in his own life? Are we seeing and having less clarity due to distractions and the pace of life? Is our busyness leading to loneliness? Do we use other people as an excuse not to do what matters? Why our greatest gift lies right next to our deepest wounds Are people terrified of meeting themselves? How do we know what to trust in ourselves? Where is the intersection of trust and intuition? It's not just The 5 Regrets of the Dying; it's also the living with regrets. Has Philip ever faced his mortality? What scares Philip? How has Philip's One Last Talk changed in the last year? How has Philip simplified his life in the last 100 days?   LINKS   Philip McKernan website https://philipmckernan.com/about/   One Last Talk https://onelasttalk.com   Support the Show on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/themojoradioshowpodcast   Top 10 Cowbell songs of all time https://ultimateclassicrock.com/cowbell-songs/   Athletic Greens https://athleticgreens.com/us     The Mojo Radio Show Rocktober https://www.themojoradioshow.com/rocktober-2019.html   The Mojo Radio Show http://www.themojoradioshow.com   The Mojo Radio Show on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/TheMojoRadioShowPodcast/     The Mojo Radio Show copyright Gary Bertwistle & Darren Robertson   Products or companies we discuss are not paid endorsements. — Wearing any gold? Touch it!.. Any clue? No, not at that time, but now he gets it. Then, those times, still a kid, what could he be wearing of gold?.. Nothing of course… His grandma would touch it… She could touch her necklace… She saved them. She fed them, she brought money, food, and, what’s most important, love and happiness. He realizes, after her death, he lost that most important thing – the fun, the strength, the humor, the joy… She was grandma, – everyone called her Mamida – as she was the sister of his Mum’s father… Yeah… So, for her mother, she was Mamida – but then she was Mamida for everyone – for him especially!.. — My favorite holidays? – New Years… Why?.. Because of Mamida – she made those days… He feels her now… He always felt her… Mum would say also – to touch the gold… Mamida too. Now he understands that it’s all about the crescent growing – waxing – and so the promise of gold, growing, wealth increase… Or often, that’s mixed with just – wish… Make a wish… Look at the crescent… His Mum is now against looking at it – she also believes not to look at full moon is an advice worth paying attention… Perhaps, Mum is right. We have too much of an energy coming from the moon even without staring at it. So what about the crescent? What about Mamida?.. It all depends, if there are the initial pages of those associations and reminiscences, or are there the last?.. No one knows… Hope, these are just the beginning, – so much to remember, he thinks. He would touch his gold necklace and cross now, but he left it at his first apartment. He left it and it’s over a month he’s not been there. He’s with parents, at the second apartment – he’s on the couch, here, he hate’s to sleep on… The power of wishes and thoughts are really huge and perhaps that’s why he can’t consider this place as home – he bought, planned and though of it as his office – workplace… Could stay, yes… But not home… Now it’s home… He can’t accept… Just as his rational mind, or rather his rational side of mind – telling him not to believe in the crescent and touching the gold or making a wish… Because, first of all, how do you know if the moon is about to disappear or to grow?.. It’s identical and one needs to have tracked it to know for sure… Crescent… New moon… Actually, the form of the moon he would imagine and dream, it was always the crescent… Being born? Dying? Regardless, yet another manifestation of the cycle… Somehow the crescent seemed more homey, he realized, then the full moon… Perhaps because there’s the shade from earth… Yes, homey, like Mamida, like New Year, like Family… Warmer… Hello, moon!.. Can anyone hear God’s voice? What about those who don’t know him? Can non-Christians or those who’ve never been to church hear him speak? And what about those from other religions? On this episode, we’re privileged to have the esteemed Dr Amos Yong on the show to talk about some of these questions. Amos is an eminent theologian, a prolific author and researcher with over 20 titles based around the work of the Holy Spirit. They include a theology of disability, interfaith relationships, global theology - even a theology of Down syndrome. The title on this topic is called: Beyond the Impasse: Toward a Pneumatological Theology of Religions. Amos shares his story of knowing God, and how his most common way of hearing God’s voice is through the Scriptures. We talk about the different ways people use "God-talking" language. His Mum for example, regularly says God speaks to her, but his Dad is more conservative in his use of this language and a lot less likely to attribute his experiences to God. We discuss how the Spirit is working in the lives of those from other faiths, how God is present in the lives of our neighbours and what God may be saying when we learn to love someone else. Fourteen year old Mohammed was excluded from school over a year ago: his poor behaviour culminating in an incident involving a firework in a classroom corridor. His Mum has been trying to get him back into education for many months now and as time passes she sees little hope of success. At first she opted to home school him, but with her work and family responsibilities she found this too difficult. She wants him to get a school place but worries about how he will settle and whether he can catch up the months of education that he's missed. Grace Dent follows what happens. Mohammed is being helped by staff at Raising Explorers, an inspirational after school club in Bradford, which provides input on the academic side, along with Islamic study. Abu Mustafa, who oversees the team, says that however much work they do at the centre it will not be enough to compensate for the loss of a school education. He is supporting the family with efforts to get Mohammed back into lessons, whilst also addressing the behavioural issues which have seen him excluded in the past. Teachers at Raising Explorers know that Mohammed and his family are not alone in the challenges they face and they see particular challenges for teenagers wrestling with competing priorities. They feel that schools properly resourced to get to the bottom of problems once they arise and parents are not involved in putting things right. The after school club tries to close this gap, particularly for youngsters who are balancing community and family expectations alongside finding their own path in life. Abu Mustafa is pleased with how Mohammed is responding to this input and hopes that he will be able to make a real go of things once a school place is found.

Welcome to the 37th CONKERS’ CORNER recorded on 17th November 2016. In this interview I have the pleasure of speaking Property entrepreneur, millionaire ISA investor, Founder of Mello events and Director of ShareSoc @carmensfella David Stredder. David comes from a very humble background and was brought up in Lytham St. Annes in Lancashire. David states “my Mum and Dad were the best parents you could have” and it is clear that they provided him with the foundations for his entrepreneurial zeal and drive to achieve to attain a good education and financial independence. His Mum would give him spelling and Maths tests after school and when he was eleven years of age, she entered him into the scholarship test for the top school in Lancashire. David passed the test and “went from being on free school milk at my smaller school” to one of the big boys at a part boarding school. David always worked during the school holidays and decided early on that he would not go to University. His mind was always on making money and although he went on to sixth form education, he opted for a computer operator job with a big Insurance company. He says however, that he was rubbish…”it was just way beyond me”. David’s next role was in London as an Information Officer. Part of it was sport journalism and also taking dignitaries around Central London. This job provided David with lots of additional time on his hands and he decided to get into property and he invested some of his growing savings into two flats. He later found that his friends that had chosen to go University, needed to come to London for work and needed accommodation. Before he knew it, he had built up the second largest property management company in South London. He sold this property business to an industry consolidator in the late nineties and decided to spread his money into investments that provided him with a return. Shortly after this David formed a group for a monthly meet-up at a local restaurant called Mello. Thus, Mello events was born and grew and grew http://mello-events.co.uk/about-us/ Since then he has concentrated on his listed and unlisted investments and is an active small cap investor. As a proactive investor, David also became a founder and Director of ShareSoc http://www.sharesoc.org/directors.html fighting on behalf of private shareholders’ rights. ShareSoc do this by promoting shareholders’ rights to companies and by seeking to influence Government and regulatory policy. David’s investment strategy is one of finding small-cap companies that are lowly rated and are often family owned business. He position sizes all his investments and is a very patient investor. David’s winning strategy eventually came to the attention of the author Guy Thomas and he was interviewed for his book “Free Capital, How 12 Private Investors Made Millions in the Stock Market”. A book that I read some years ago and found thoroughly insightful. Listen now to gain insights into how David went from his very humble beginnings to become a property entrepreneur and Millionaire ISA investor. Learn from the lessons in his successful, insightful investing journey.

Bradford Council regularly monitors horse numbers on its Holme Wood estate, with workers and police carrying out late night raids to round them up. Alan Dein meets the animal owners and explores their bitter battle with the council as they tether horses in parks, alleys and even their own gardens. Gaz has tried dogs, cats and guinea pigs. Last week when his seven kids wanted a new pet he picked up a £50 horse form a mate on the street. The horse is now in his back garden and during the day he risks the council's wrath by moving it into the park outside his home. It is a huge council estate but his home is let by a private landlord and although he has no income he's asking that landlord if he can build a stables for Sausage in his garden! The estate is literally teeming with horses and no one bats an eyelid at one more joining their ranks. Across the road Pip is engaged in a game of cat and mouse with council officials as he tries to hide his horses. Eviction notices have been served on his parents and he's received an anti-social behaviour order for having horses loose on the estate. His Mum won't have him back home after a bitter argument which ended with the police being called. He's now homeless and out of school. And then there's nine year old Holly Leigh who has long dreamed of owning a horse. That dream has just come true and Billy is now in the garden of her small council home. The Holme Wood estate is home to about 10,000 people and pets of all variety, from horses to pigs, snakes, lizards and monkeys. But it's the horses that are causing the problems... Producer: Sue Mitchell.
