ICC Men's T20 World Cup Day 17 Review: Hetmyer & the spin twins star as West Indies beat Zimbabwe

In this episode of the show, Binsky and Stu look back at Day 17 of the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, which featured the Super 8s match between the West Indies and Zimbabwe. After a watchful start and a crucial missed opportunity, the West Indies produced a barrage of sixes on their way to a massive score of 254 against Zimbabwe, which ultimately proved to be well out of reach. We talk about the start from Muzarabani and Ngarava, the dropped catch when Shimron Hetmyer was on 9 and the West Indian range hitting once the spinners came on to bowl - despite Graeme Cremer's ability to turn the ball a long way. And while it was Hetmyer and Rovman Powell who built the decisive partnership, the West Indies gave us another display of their six-hitting depth as Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd and Jason Holder all got in on the act. From there, it was Matthew Forde who started well with the ball, and then Akeal Hosein went bang bang to make it 20-3. Hosein finished with 3 wickets and Gudakesh Motie with 4 despite a bit of fight from Brad Evans at the end, as the West Indies took the win and a big boost to their net run rate. To round out the show, the boys look ahead to Day 18, when England will be looking to make it two from two in the group as they take on Pakistan in Pallekele.   We'll be back in your feed again tomorrow with the next instalment of our T20 World Cup coverage. Hosein Kouros-Mehr, MD, PhD is an author and physician-scientist who has spent over two decades in cancer research and drug development. Thanks to his background, Hosein recognized the extraordinary ramifications of a recent scientific discovery: the default mode network (DMN), which encodes the human ego and influences our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Recognizing the profound impact of this breakthrough on self-understanding (both from clinical and personal experience), he wrote Break Through: Master Your Default Mode and Thrive to help readers master the DMN and live happier, more fulfilling lives. An avid reader and student of science, philosophy, and religion, Hosein draws on a depth of understanding from medical science, neuroscience, Buddhism, Judeo-Christian teachings, and ancient philosophy. Break Through connects the medical and spiritual realms to help readers unlock health and well-being and awaken their higher self, opening the doors to new possibilities and experiences. Hosein is also the author of two novels, Extinction 6 and Project Bodi: Awaken the Power of Insight, that explore how mindfulness cultivates insights and scientific innovation. He lives in Los Angeles, California, with his wife and children. 3 Top Tips  For many people, addiction is driven by a rewired brain where there is little conscious control over decisions. The first step in the healing process is INTENTION--the decision to want a happier, healthier life. The other steps in the process--surrender, insight, and the journey--are at the heart of both religious and non-religious based healing practices. These steps are also backed by emerging scientific studies into the nature of the mind.  Social Media  yourdefaultmode@gmail.com https://www.instagram.com/kourosmehr/ https://www.facebook.com/YourDefaultMode https://www.tiktok.com/@yourdefaultmode https://www.linkedin.com/in/hosein-kouros-mehr-md-phd-289ba349/

Mastering the Default Mode Network: By developing awareness and focusing on the present moment, individuals can train their central executive network to overcome the default mode network's negative effects. Mindfulness practices, such as meditation and focus exercises, can help in quieting the default mode network, promoting relaxation, and enhancing focus. Identifying and addressing mental knots such as stress, emotional pain, addictive craving, and loneliness can lead to personal growth and well-being. BEST MOMENTS "The default mode network is actually your ego. It's yourself. It's the storyline of you that you're generating." Break Through: Master Your Default Mode and Thrive by Hosein Kouros-Mehr https://amzn.to/4234lHv Yourdefaultmode.com "Break Through is a fascinating, science-backed exploration of the default mode network (DMN), considered to be the actual location of ‘self' in the brain. Understanding and healing our DMN is a promising way to tackle society's mental health epidemic.” - Rick Doblin, PhD, Founder of MAPS What's stopping you from being truly happy and at peace? Could it be your wandering mind that constantly revisits painful thoughts and bad habits? Scientists now have a name for the wandering mind—the default mode network (DMN), a barrier that can prevent you from enjoying life. Your DMN takes you away from the present moment and encourages you to ruminate on the past and future. This can lead to painful conditions—mental knots—like stress, anxiety, emotional pain, addiction, and depression. Fortunately, you can break through this wall to the blissful peace in your core. Backed by scientific data, Break Through connects the medical and spiritual realms on a journey of inner healing. With a holistic approach, you can master your default mode and rise to your best self. Unlock health, happiness, and inner peace, and open the door to new possibilities that you once deemed impossible.About the author Hosein Kouros-Mehr, MD, PhD is an author and physician-scientist who has spent over two decades in cancer research and drug development. Thanks to his background, Hosein recognized the extraordinary ramifications of a recent scientific discovery: the default mode network (DMN), which encodes the human ego and influences our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Recognizing the profound impact of this breakthrough on self-understanding (both from clinical and personal experience), he wrote "Break Through: Master Your Default Mode and Thrive" to help readers master the DMN and live happier, more fulfilling lives. Hosein is also the author of two futuristic novels, "Extinction 6" and "Project Bodi: Awaken the Power of Insight," that explore the inner workings of the mind. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and children.

On this week's show, I'm speaking with Kevin Jared Hosein about his novel, Hungry Ghosts. Hungry Ghosts is a remarkable novel set in the 1940s in Trinidad, following the story of two families, vastly different from one another, but whose decisions and actions have devastating consequences. In his book, Kevin explores so much, from race, class, religion, wealth and human dignity, to huge questions around one's pursuit of escaping the life they don't want to lead; whether we are the saviours in our own stories, and how the actions of one person or group of people, can have long-lasting impacts on others, spanning generations. On the show we talk about morally ambiguous characters, learning about stories through gaming, colonialism, class, race and so much more. Kevin Jared Hosein is a teacher and writer from Trinidad, where he lives and works. He won the Commonwealth writers' prize in 2018 for his story Passage and he has written two novels for young adults, The Repenters and The Beast of Kukuyo. His first novel for adults, Hungry Ghosts, is set in 1940s Trinidad and concerns the wife of an overseer who goes missing and the attempts by one of his employees to move up in a highly stratified society.I'd really love to connect with you, and would love to hear your thoughts on the show. Ms. Marvel was reborn in the pages of Marvel comics almost a decade ago, when writers Sama Amanat, a Pakistani-American Muslim, and G. Willow Wilson, who converted to Islam in 2003, created Khamala Khan, a 16-year-old Pakastani-American from New Jersey who idolizes the previous Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers, Khan's portrayal has drawn plenty of accolades and criticisms for its portrayal of an American Muslim youth. And, in recent years, criticism of representation of Islam in western popular culture has become far more focused, especially in the two decades since 9/11. In general, however, mass media continues to reduce Muslims to a good Muslim/bad Muslim binary, lacking any real depth or nuance. With Kamala's Ms. Marvel now joining the MCU with the Disney+ television adaptation of her story having just wrapped, John decided to ask Dr. Safiyya Hosein, who has written extensively about Kamala Khan and whose academic work covers the intersection of Islam, comics, and gender, among other things, to join him to talk about it.
