Coming in HOT at 60% ABV this wonderful bottle was hand filled by my wife's Uncle Charlie or Tuna!  It was a very generous gift that he got for me for my Birthday and I have to say that I love this bottle even more today.  Sometimes, that first taste trap, or Neck pour can be a bewildering experience, and for me the first time I had this it was IN TENSE!  It still is, but my palate has been seasoned a bit these days to actually sit back and pull out the notes of this wonderfully rich and dark dram.  Don't get me started about the lingering finish either.  It will last a long, long time.  Cheers!

  The Crew:  Our gracious host for the day, Ryan Douglas; Brendan(Douglas Fresh) Douglas; Patrick(Pauly G.) Hall; Jeremy Nicely; Rick Greenless; and one slightly toasted, Warren Kluck Where to begin on this one?  This was Part Three of an afternoon in South Bend, Indiana on the weekend we introduced the newest Blind Pig, Mr. Warren Kluck.  By the end of hour three and a twenty minute rant on his hatred of Pink Floyd, we were wondering if we made a horrible mistake. Of course we’re kidding…we love our Warren.   The group was a bit drunk and ornery on hour three of the craft beer marathon… which of course we had to throw whiskey into the mix.    We talk Detroit Lions football, old ass QB’s, first tattoos, some rare but insightful words from Rick Greenless, and the re-release of Sgt. Pepper, Warren’s favorite Beatles album.   Lots of great craft beers went into the making of this episode including:  18th Street Devil’s Conclave; Prairie’s Sour Ale aged on Ginger; Bier Brewery’s award winning, Sanitarium; and we snuck in a little Jameson Black Barrel whiskey just for good measure and to be sure everyone got ripe.   Cheers! There are few more natural things to do on a Friday night after a long week than to belly up to the bar and enjoy a beverage. Last Friday I had the pleasure of meeting up with Charles Tappan, Mixologist with Pernod Ricard at Looney's in Bel Air to taste Jameson Black Barrel Irish Whiskey and discuss its distinctions as compared to the Jameson Original with which most are familiar. The primary distinctions between the Black Barrel and the original are that the Black Barrel is aged approximately twice as long as the original – and that the casks that they use are undergo additional charring to ‘full alligator‘ or Level #4. The increased length of aging in these re-charred barrels creates a spirit that still retains Jameson Original's sweet nutty core, but adds to it a baking spices and a fruitiness that stand out on the mid-palate and finish. Perfectly enjoyable on its own, yet another great feature of the whiskey is its ability to come through when used in cocktails. And Friday night we tasted one of Charles' favorites – the New York Sour. [Basic components are 2 parts whiskey (in this case Black Barrel), 1 part Lemon juice, and 1/2-1 part Simple Syrup (depending on your sour preference), with a light handed red wine floater on top.] Cheers!
