We then discuss Aurora Flight Sciences, from the very early days to the eventual acquisition by Boeing.
In a story that isn't getting much media attention, we explore the often-veiled world of Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) and their impact on democracy and individual freedom. On this episode Will and Josh speak with Jessica Denson, a former Trump campaign staffer with a background in acting, known for roles in "Show Me a Hero," "Person of Interest," and "Kimchi Warrior," and John Langford, a legal expert from Protect Democracy. Together, they dive into the story of Jessica's transformation from an actress to a central figure in Trump's 2016 campaign and how challenging the Trump campaign's NDAs ended up in court. Jessica opens up about the immense personal and emotional challenges she faced while fighting against the NDAs, detailing her experiences of how these agreements were used to suppress and control. Her story is not just a personal account, but also a larger commentary on the threats NDAs pose to individual freedoms and democratic principles. Complementing Jessica's powerful testimony, John Langford from Protect Democracy offers expert legal insights into the class action settlement that liberated 2016 Trump campaign workers from their NDAs, highlighting the broader implications of this case for future NDAs in political and corporate environments, and also opening the door for other high-profile former employees of Trump, like Omarosa Manigault Newman. This episode offers an in-depth look at the intersection of personal struggle, legal battles, and political discourse. It is an essential listen for anyone interested in understanding the real-life impact of NDAs, the resilience of individuals in the face of daunting legal challenges, and the ongoing efforts to safeguard democratic values. HAPPY VETERANS DAY!!!Our veteran population is crucial to our way of life for many reasons. They have dedicated a portion of their lives to protecting our freedoms, shaping our nation, and setting the example of adaptability and service. Veterans Day is a time for us to stand united in showing our respect and support to those who have served. Veteran wellness is something that must be a united, daily effort. Service members face unique challenges throughout their military careers. The type, intensity, and duration of service, along with multiple layers of complexity during the transition process into veteran status can have a negative impact on health and well-being. This is a meaningful topic to both of us for many reasons and we are proud to focus on ways to collaborate with individuals and organizations who support veteran health and well-being.Welcome to SEASON TWO of The Nature of Wellness Podcast!!! Join us for this special premiere episode as we share two interviews with veterans who make life better for those who serve. John Langford served in the Marine Corps, as both enlisted and officer, for 23 years, retiring in 2009. During his service, John held multiple positions that focused on the health and well-being of active-duty Marines. John continues to devote his time to supporting those who have worn the uniform and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Project Healing Waters, a non-profit dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings. John continues to devote his time to serving those who have served.John talks about the challenges that veterans face during the transition, how time in nature (especially near water) can positively impact health and well-being, the origins and incredible program offerings of PHW, and the power of resilience and authenticity. Sarah Evans served in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Captain. While serving in Afghanistan in 2012, she was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, eventually leading to the amputation of her left leg at the hip. During her recovery, Sarah was introduced to adaptive sports, leading her down a path of self-discovery and growth. She has completed the 26.2-mile Bataan Memorial Death March and summited Mt. Kilimanjaro. Sarah has also competed in both the Warrior Games and Invictus Games and is currently a member of the US Amputee Soccer team. Sarah discusses some of the multi-dimensional wellness challenges veterans face, the need to build quality systems of support and finding your community, the power of “putting yourself out there,” and what is truly possible after facing adversity. We are beyond fortunate to have had these conversations and both left these discussions a bit different. Please subscribe, rate, and leave a review anywhere you listen to this podcast. Have you ever been to a large arena and thought to yourself, “Damn – this place is huge.”?! John Langford, the COO of Anschutz Entertainment Group for Europe, knows all about that feeling as he is responsible for the operations of some of the largest arenas in Europe, including The o2 in London, Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin and the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg. We are beyond proud that he took the time to join us on the podcast and shared his story with us. Philip and John had a beautiful conversation about John's career path, the importance of live music and the immense responsibility that comes with it. John, who grew up in South Africa explained how he got into managing well-known arenas that host world stars on a regular basis. He lived in Alaska, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, while constantly traveling the world. His love for live music is evident, especially after his experience at a Michael Jackson concert he couldn't attend, but still managed to somehow be there. Curios? You should be. He also told us about the interesting and impressive way of responsibly handling the sustainability part of arena operations. Philip and John finished off by sharing their love for beer and the German Reinheitsgebot. Enjoy the show!

This episode originally aired in May, 2019.Dr. John Langford, a partner researcher in the Machine Learning group at Microsoft Research New York City, is a reinforcement learning expert who is working, in his own words, to solve machine learning. Rafah Hosn, also of MSR New York, is a principal program manager who’s working to take that work to the world. If that sounds like big thinking in the Big Apple, well, New York City has always been a “go big, or go home” kind of town, and MSR NYC is a “go big, or go home” kind of lab. Today, Dr. Langford explains why online reinforcement learning is critical to solving machine learning and how moving from the current foundation of a Markov decision process toward a contextual bandit future might be part of the solution. Rafah Hosn talks about why it’s important, from a business perspective, to move RL agents out of simulated environments and into the open world, and gives us an under-the-hood look at the product side of MSR’s “research, incubate, transfer” process, focusing on real world reinforcement learning which, at Microsoft, is now called Azure Cognitive Services Personalizer.

While the band has just finished its sixth CD, its four members are no strangers to the Chicago music scene. GO TIME! is comprised of former Prairie Town members Scott Niekelski (composer/lead guitar/vocals), Marko Marketti (bass), Steve Grzenia (percussion) and Paul Schmidt (Guitar) formerly of the Cromulents and the Shifties. GO TIME! officially formed in 2009. The band members have like-minded musical tastes and settled into a harder-edged, power pop groove. Scott is a prolific song writer. “Speak” was released in 2009, “Hit It” in December 2010, “ Boneshaker in January 2012, “Tight Like Wood” in 2013m “Ratsel” in January 2015 and now “Six” in January 2016. Deeply submerged in amped up jangle and buzz, along with a healthy dose of subtle pop riffs GO TIME recorded in their home studio and mastered with Mike Hagler at King Size Sound Labs known for mixing and mastering bands such as Wilco, Neko Case, The New Pornographers, The Redwalls, John Langford, The Mekons, Billy Bragg, Ezra Furman and Caliphone, just to name a few. They are instrumentally superb on every level and couple that with songwriting that imaginatively goes the extra mile to make substantive personal and wider statements. VI leaves them poised to achieve more”. RazorFish Reviews says: “Go Time has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the best modern power pop bands that will only be further burnished by this new release”.
