In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Melissa Griffiths discuss:The connection between the brain and body. The anxieties that we experience today (and why, biologically, they show up in the way they do). Why lawyers are more prone to stress and anxiety than other professions. How HeartMath can assist in dealing with unwanted emotions. The single most effective technique people can use when feeling stressed and overwhelmed. Key Takeaways:It is scientifically proven that the brain and mind can impact the physical body. Your body doesn't know the difference between being chased by a tiger or an upcoming deadline. It is up to us to bring ourselves back into balance rather than live in a state of constant stress. Stress is any change in your environment that requires your body to react and change. Not all stress is bad, but it does need to be balanced and not take over our everyday existence. The body knows how to communicate. Unless there has been an accident, there is usually something emotional behind the pain in your body. "We can control how we respond to stress, which is really important because it means we don't have to be victims to our own emotions and thoughts." — Melissa Griffiths Thank you to our Sponsors!LegalEase Marketing: https://legaleasemarketing.com/Moneypenny: https://www.moneypenny.com/us/Practice Panther: https://www.practicepanther.com/ Episode References: Book: The MindBody Prescription by John E. Lipton, Ph.D.: https://www.amazon.com/Biology-Belief-10th-Anniversary-Consciousness/dp/140195247X About Melissa Griffiths: For over 25 years Melissa lived by the hormones of stress. As a high-performing business development executive, Melissa spent every workday (and most weekends) focused on generating revenue. She worked exclusively in professional service firms where she ran national sales teams, worked with Fortune 50 companies, and closed multi-million dollar deals. In 2016 Melissa was forced to slow down when she suffered a freak accident that left her with adrenal fatigue, migraines, and depression. It took her 2 years to heal, during which time she went through a myriad of emotions from frustration and anxiety, to stress and overwhelm. In healing herself, she came to realize that her true value was synthesizing everything she had learned to teach others how their thoughts, feelings, and emotions can affect their physical body and overall health. From working with both lawyers and accountants, she saw how the stress of these professions impacted people, who then took that discomfort back to their home lives. It became harder to work in an environment that fed the stress, rather than helping it. Melissa founded Ascension to share the tools and techniques that worked for her. Melissa is a Certified HeartMath Practitioner, a Certified Emotional Resolution Practitioner, and a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner, and is in the process of completing certification as a Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional. In this episode, Molly McGrath is joined by Jordan Ostroff, the president of LegalEase Marketing. They dive into the concept of the Netflix of legal marketing, discussing the benefits of a subscription model for law firms. Jordan introduces the acronym SET IT, which stands for Strategize, Execute, Track, Iterate, and Test, emphasizing the importancve of quarterly strategizing. The episode emphasizes that tracking data is crucial for identifying the factors influencing revenue and client reviews. Tune in to learn more how to develop marketing strategies, maximize client acquisition and retention rates, and leverage legal marketing techniques to increase client intake and close deals. Key Takeaways The Netflix of Legal Marketing can provide law firms with consistent access to new content, tweaks, and changes, enabling them to generate cases and grow their firm effectively. Different firms require different strategies, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Converting leads into clients should be the primary focus than solely relying on the number of leads. Tracking data is vital for making informed decisions and identifying the causes of changes in revenue and client feedback. Following up with leads is an often overlooked and underutilized strategy in selling legal services. Law firms should focus on maximizing client acquisition and retention rates. Implementing a customer relationship management (CRM) system is highly recommended for law firms engaged in marketing activities. Quote for the Show: "Marketing is NOT a Set It and Forget It." In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Belle Walker discuss:What process mapping is and how it varies from standard operating procedures. Including client touch points in your process map (not just in the standard operating procedure). The value process mapping has for a law firm. Getting started on process mapping for your legal business. Key Takeaways:When starting a process map, have a start point, an end point, and a name for the process map. If a process has concrete steps, that is just a list. If there are decisions that need to be made, a process map could be engaged to serve your goals. Become familiar with visual language - shapes that have meaning. There are many software products that can assist you with process mapping for your firm for little to no additional cost to your firm. Key Takeaways:Cancel culture does not work, but you can give people a safe space to facilitate change with the real problems in the world.A life coach is different from a sales coach. All coaches are different and have specialties.Coaching is for everyone. It is not just for people who have more means or a bigger title or any other. In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Lewis Landerholm discuss:Adapting to the changing law industry. Having the money conversations and asking for the business. Questioning and qualifying potential clients. Creating an org chart for a visual of where you are going (then fire yourself from as many positions as possible). Key Takeaways:The fear of the unknown often hinders moving forward with a necessary hire. Every time you answer “I'll do it” will keep you as a true solo. If you wish to scale and grow you must delegate and let go of certain tasks. Assign a monetary figure to everything you do. If it is under your pay grade, delegate it out. Assign a responsibility title to each to do and see what role you need to hire for first. Learn to ask for help. You do not and cannot know everything. You need other people to grow. "The piece that really helped me the most at the beginning, was just understanding that I had to fill in the gaps of figuring out what I didn't know. Because I knew there was a lot that I didn't know. So it was the not letting my ego or other things get in the way of seeking out that information from other people, and looking for it in mentors and coaches." — Lewis Landerholm Thank you to our Sponsors!LegalEase Marketing: https://legaleasemarketing.com/Moneypenny: https://www.moneypenny.com/us/Practice Panther: https://www.practicepanther.com/ Episode References: Be That Lawyer Episode 263 with Marco Brown: https://www.fretzin.com/podcast/episodes/marco-brown-growing-your-firm-without-spending-a-dime/Book: Fans First by Jesse Cole - https://www.amazon.com/Fans-First-Change-Unforgettable-Experience/dp/154452921X About Lewis Landerholm: Lewis Landerholm is the Founding Partner of Pacific Cascade Legal, a law firm that represents family law, bankruptcy, and personal injury clients throughout the Pacific Northwest. In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Diane Camacho discuss:Eliminating the doubt, taking chances, and making mistakes.Diane's experience with starting her consulting firm. Setting appropriate expectations. What it takes to be a good leader. Key Takeaways:You must understand the realization and understand the cost of AR, unbilled time, and the cost of everything happening in your firm.Just because someone seems busy, doesn't mean they are fully engaged. Understand workflow and what people are actually doing each day. Technology can be a great tool, but you need to know what you are looking to get out of it, how the automations can save you time every day, and how it will be utilized by your team. Giving time, attention, and feedback in real-time. Investing in personal and professional growth to attract and retain team members. Key Takeaways:You are hiring human beings, not human doings. Employees and team members are wanting purpose and reason in their job. When hiring, it should be a hard yes or a hard no. If it is a maybe, you are trying to convince yourself. You will know within 30 days if someone is a good fit or not. The #1 thing people want is connection and collaboration. In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Robert Plotkin discuss:How AI can assist a law firm and the benefits of automating those things that can be automated. Best practices for selecting automation and law firm technologies.Common misconceptions about law firm automation. Creating a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Key Takeaways:No matter how much we automate, there will always be something for humans to do. Not everything can be automated, but those things that can be, can help your law firm run more efficiently. When you use automation to generate content, you must apply the same level of care and review that you would when reviewing content generated by humans. If you haven't used much automation, start with the tool that gives you the most return for the least amount of setup effort. You can automate many things on the business side that don't have anything to do with the document generation or client tasks. This will still save you time and money. "I still think it's true that performing legal analysis, in many ways, cannot be automated. If you were to observe, during the course of your day, what all the tasks are you perform as a lawyer and you break them down into smaller units, many of them don't really require the skill of a lawyer. Those can be automated." — Robert Plotkin Thank you to our Sponsors!LegalEase Marketing: https://legaleasemarketing.com/Moneypenny: https://www.moneypenny.com/us/Practice Panther: https://www.practicepanther.com/ Episode References: Book: The Paradox of Choice by Barry Schwartz - https://www.amazon.com/Paradox-Choice-Why-More-Less/dp/0060005696 About Robert Plotkin: Robert Plotkin is a patent attorney who has been specializing in software and AI patents for over 25 years. We know that not every legal professional or firm is built the same. Some of them were able to tailor their solutions to stand out in a competitive marketplace but others are still struggling to implement strategies. This week, we're super excited to be chatting with Jordan Ostroff, who is a creative businessman who serves as a President of LegalEase Marketing, a Managing Partner of Jordan Law FI, and a board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida. Even though he had no idea what becoming a lawyer entailed, he had known from a young age that he wanted to be one. He started participating in national trial competitions while still in college, where he won awards as an attorney for fictitious cases. After graduating from law school, he began working for the State Attorney's Office as a prosecutor. Being the first lawyer in his family and the son of a postal worker and a substitute teacher, his first few years of managing a practice were tremendously challenging. He gained practical experience by working his way up through the ranks.Because he didn't know about marketing, he was frequently taken advantage of by marketing firms. He then decided to learn how to run a successful business and now works 2-3 days per week. This helps him to start a marketing firm for the legal space in which he shares everything he wishes he knew when he started running his business.
In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Colin Levy discuss:The intersection of law and technology. ChatGPT and the applicable potential of AI.Benefits and drawbacks of social media platforms. Value-based social media content. Key Takeaways:Each social media platform is unique and offers different benefits and risks than the other platforms. Do your research before you dive into using all of them as that is unnecessary. Before you do anything else on LinkedIn, use the About Me section to tell your story. Be consistent regardless of which platform you choose to use. Do it with intention, start small, and hold to a regular consistent posting schedule. Give more than you take on social media. Be creative and demonstrate your authority, but also your authenticity, in your posts. "LinkedIn has really been the hero. In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Gary Winter discuss:How practicing law is like flying an airplane.Must have technology to run your firm.Evolution of the legal industry.Working remotely and building a strong team. Key Takeaways:If you approach your practice of law as a business, it eases the stress of the business side, because that is what it is.Managing a team in a remote environment is different than when you're in the office. If you give your employees an opportunity to interact, they will do so, even if they aren't actively in the same office. If you're utilizing digital practice management, use the whole thing. Don't be partly on, partly off. "The practice of law is a business. It does need systems, it does need checklists, it does need organization. You have to approach it that way. Today's guest knew he wanted to be a lawyer from a young age, even though at the time he wasn't sure what that meant. Jordan Ostroff is the President of LegalEase Marketing. Jordan went through so many bad marketing experiences that he decided to help other lawyers who are struggling and need help marketing. Jordan joins the host Molly McGrath to talk about how lawyers can effectively market themselves. Takeaways: As a lawyer, it's easy to skip figuring out who your ideal client is but it's an absolutely necessary step to have before you start marketing. You need clients that will refer you to other people rather than just pay a small bill. Once you have an ideal client picked out, then you can begin marketing and need to focus on what you can and can't afford. You should focus on marketing tactics that work better at reaching your ideal client. You don't need to rent out a billboard if your clients don't see that. You want to meet your clients where they are. It's important to know the psychographics of your ideal clients. If you understand how their mind works, you can figure out the best way to target them online. Running a well-run business should be something that is fun for you, and part of the fun is marketing. If you don't enjoy marketing, then you become a bottleneck for it. In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Neil Schwan discuss:Why lawyers don't keep up with their expenses. Top expenses lawyers have that they don't look at. Automation and outsourcing to reduce costs. The power of looking to help others first. Key Takeaways:You may not need to wait out a full lease if you are looking to move on. There are options out there, and speaking with a tenant advocate may be able to help. Get competitive quotes every few years on your professional insurance. You can always stay with your broker if you like them, but it doesn't hurt to see where costs can be saved. As we are in this inflationary period, it is more important than ever to pay attention to rates, negotiate with your provider or vendor, and lowering the costs that are within your control. Network with people that you can help and can also help you. "It's a really good time to be [negotiating with your provider or vendor before your contract is up], preparing yourself or recession and inflationary periods where you can lower the costs you have within your control because there's some you just can't change." — Neil Schwan Episode References: Brad Barkin at Embroker: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bradbarkin/Practice Panther: https://www.practicepanther.com/ Connect with Neil Schwan: Website: https://www.schooleymitchell.com/nschwan/ Phone: 630-381-0037Email: neil.schwan@schooleymitchell.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/neil-schwan/ Thank you to our Sponsors!LegalEase Marketing: https://legaleasemarketing.com/Moneypenny: https://www.moneypenny.com/us/Practice Panther: https://www.practicepanther.com/ Connect with Steve Fretzin:LinkedIn: Steve FretzinTwitter: @stevefretzinFacebook: Fretzin, Inc.Website: Fretzin.comEmail: Steve@Fretzin.comBook: The Ambitious Attorney: Your Guide to Doubling or Even Tripling Your Book of Business and more!YouTube: Steve FretzinCall Steve directly at 847-602-6911 Show notes by Podcastologist Chelsea Taylor-Sturkie Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Michael Fielding discuss:Changing your mindset around networking.Michael's three-part formula for business development. The evolution of client problems and anticipating where the market is headed.Growing your knowledge base and expanding your ability to solve problems. Key Takeaways:Maintain the relationships that you build in law school as well as in your law firms. You never know when these relationships will be profitable for you and them.As attorneys, your job is to discover what the client's problems are. Some are regularly occurring, as well as rare, unique problems that you will need to solve. It is important to be able to think of client problems, pivot as necessary, and anticipate the problems that are going to be coming down the pipeline. To really do substantive, meaningful work to really help clients, you have to, every day, be putting in some deep, focused, concentrated effort. Today's guest is a jack of all trades in the business world. He is a visionary entrepreneur and an innovative thought leader. Jordan Ostroff is the President of LegalEase Marketing, Managing Partner of Jordan Law, and Board Member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida. He dives into the depths of cold calling, how to deal with it and why it's not effective. Being an attorney and owner of a marketing company he has unique perspectives on the mindset he has to have working with his two different businesses. Busted Myths: “Cold spam, cold outreach, all that stuff is the f****ing worst. And I don't know who sold you on some mass tactic, but it's awful and it's ruining your brand and long-term success.” Takeaways: It's easy with cold calling and messaging for marketing companies to have a big list to send out to gain leads. But in reality, it's about making a quick dollar at the expense of a lot more money and success down the road. Cold calling and messaging do not resonate with your customers. Marketing comes down to three things: your ideal client, some sort of pull, for example your brand, and how to win people over at scale. Have a strong foundation of who you want to work with and what events can provide you ROI based on your ideal clients. As a lawyer, Jordan's brand is “a lawyer with a life”. His firm focuses on work-life balance and wants to attract the same type of clients. Being unique in the work world is having three to five unique selling propositions, you'll know that it's right when nobody fits all of them. First step for branding is being memorable, whether they form a positive or negative opinion about you, they know you exist. During college, he began competing in trial competitions across the country, where he was an award winning advocate for fictitious cases. After law school, he started his legal career as a Prosecutor for the State Attorney's Office. The son of a postal employee and a substitute teacher, he is the first lawyer in his family, and with no business experience his first few years of running a firm were incredibly difficult. He was consistently taken advantage of by other marketing companies, because he didn't get it and didn't know what to ask for or what to look for. Having been faced with the prospect of learning how to run a successful business or close his firm and file for bankruptcy, he choose the later. The more that you know your ideal client, the one you truly want to work with, the best kind of client as specifically as possible the easier every other decision becomes because you can think about where they are now and that's where you can market to. You can think about where they are going to go when they need you and that's where you market to. You can think about what they are really concerned about and you can write about that or talk about that in what you are putting out there. You can think about what they want to see out of the company when they hire it and you start doing those things. You start thinking about what they want to see after they have done hiring you and start doing those things to get referrals and more business”…[Listen for More] Click Here for Show Notes To Listen or to Get the Show Notes go to https://wp.me/p6Tf4b-mGe

I always struggled on what I wanted to pursue with my life. It's a big question for any college kid to answer. The truth non of them know, not one. Because you don't know what you wanna spend the rest of your life doing until, you're in the toughest aspect of any job. A few examples for me is I went to Alabama as a political science major. Then Transferred to a local community college/Rowan for a sociology degree. Work wise, I worked 50 hour weeks paying back debt at Chick-Fil-A then worked for PNC Bank as a bank teller. It was at PNC bank where my life started to switch. They were generally overpaying me to do simple work and it was all perfect, until in January my entire family got COVID 19 which made me leave work to take care of them. Following that I was having issues with a stomach ulcer, going to the hospital every 2 weeks for constant vomiting, and that's when I was fired from PNC bank for missing too much work. And that brought me ALL THE WAY back to square 1 of what the hell am I doing? That was when my brother reached out to me telling me he was started to pick up some serious business for his new company LegalEase Marketing and that's got some work for me. I was hesitant at first because if you know me and my brother, both of our friends always say, “You guys are like the same person.” And I guess that's what always pushed me away from doing something that I was potentially really really good at, and really, really enjoyed. And within a month of managing my first client's social media and graphics, his new sessions are at 78%, increase of 16%, his bounce rate dropped 75% to 11% TOTAL, and pages per session increased 41% to 3 pages per session. All after just one month. And that was the moment I was like, this is what I'm meant to do.
Brett has a unique story of how he went from a normal college student, to $10,000 gambling debt, and now he's a marketing catalyst for law firms and small businesses. Following him coming forward to his family about his debt, Brett then left the University of Alabama to start working 50 hour weeks at Chick-Fil-A to start paying back his gambling while also being a full time student at a community college. Brett continued to struggle to find his passion before he began working for LegalEase Marketing as a project manager. Since then, Brett has not only found early success in his time but his passion for what he wants to do for a career. His firm uses the latest technology and automation to provide top level legal work with a low volume of cases, but a high touch level of care and compassion. When he started out he was ignorant of marketing and just bought what he thought he could afford. Then he realized he had spent tens of thousands of dollars on marketing that didn't get him anywhere. So he went about the business of actually learning it for himself and then took that expertise and started LegalEase Marketing and LegalEase Marketing. Jordan approaches his marketing business as a holistic lawyer focused on a marketing company, which is both a full service marketing company as well as a business consulting firm. Jordan prides LegalEase on treating his marketing clients the same way those lawyers treat their clients. I really take pride in bringing you resources that I myself have confidence in and I just know you’ll find value in what he has to say. Tune in now! In this episode we discuss: Identifying your ideal client avatar. Determining the best way to communicate to reach your ideal client. Reaching your ideal clients by being on the social media platforms they are using. Communicating what you are actually selling and/or what problem you are solving. The difference in marketing for a reactive need versus a proactive need. Marketing as a science blending with marketing as an art. Quality leads versus quantity of leads. Knowing the call to action outcome desired for every piece of marketing you invest in. Law Firm Mentor Master Class: https://lawfirmmentor.net/masterclass Contact Info: Contact Law Firm Mentor: Scheduler: https://meetme.so/LawFirmMentor Snippets 00:11:06 (1 Minute 9 Seconds) Jordan Ostroff: So I'm a huge fan of video and or but one of those to the benefit of video is you can pull audio from the video, you can pull images from video. You can't do the reverse. And so, like, when we do our, I don't do a podcast, I start as a Facebook live show and then we go to a podcast, because that way I have a video, I have the audio, and I can give people the way that they want to go forward to listen to us or watch us. But from the standpoint of marketing, you, I'm not going to pay to push the audio version of it. I'm going to pay to push the video version of it or or vice versa, depending upon who I'm trying to target. And so you really have to think about what makes the most sense to that ideal client. Are you pushing them to a podcast or are you pushing them to a written newsletter or are you pushing them to a YouTube channel? Are you pushing them to, whatever it's going to be? Because that's going to impact how you spend your money in marketing. Allison Williams: Yeah, so there's some gold in that. I love the idea that if you start with video, you have the image and the audio versus if you start with audio, you just have the audio. And I think there is definitely value to that that perspective. 00:15:34 (37 Seconds) Allison Williams: And I think a lot of people are kind of of the mindset of where let me go to a place where I'm comfortable. But you really have to think about where your people are and go for, go where your people are. Right. If the people are on Clubhouse, that's where you need to be versus, you know, I like to be on Facebook, so that's where I'll stay. Jordan Ostroff: And I'm OK with splitting the difference. Like take where they're going to be and take what you're comfortable with and then try to find ideally some sort of an overlap there. I think the most interesting one is business attorneys. So you're a business attorney, you're working with business owners and business owners are going to be in a couple of different places depending upon what your niche is.
