An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Sometimes children act out because they don't feel like they're being seen or understood. And that's a stressor for children. But when we take time during the day or evening to connect with them, they seem to act out less (or if they do have a difficult moment, it's easier to bring them back down and help them become regulated). So if we can make these little deposits throughout the day, we can prevent many chaotic moments caused by feeling overlooked and ignored. Also, in making an effort to connect with our children, it's easier for us to respond intentionally instead of reacting in those stressful moments. What we've noticed is that not only are our children's buckets being filled in those moments where we're connecting but our own bucket is being filled also. In this episode, we're going to share three simple things you can do to connect with your child in those small pockets of time throughout the day so that you can prevent chaotic moments from even happening in the first place.

Unfortunately, we are facing a new health epidemic of digital dementia.Power Poses and ExerciseA power pose is a stance like Superman or Wonder Woman. You are stimulating the front side of your brain. Toward the back you have plug in points of the cranial nerves. You are making changes in your endocrine system and hormones.When you stand in an open power pose you not only look more confident, you actually ARE more confident. Studies have shown that this posture stance brings about neuroendocrine and behavioral changes due to increased testosterone, decreased cortisol and the feeling of more power.When you sit slouched over you are getting the opposite. Your cortisol increases because the adrenal gland put you in a fight-or-flight mode. Stand and own your position. Benefits of ExerciseExercise for at least 30 minutes per day improves your mood. It also increases tryptophan which is needed to produce serotonin. Role of Postural NeurologyThe postural neurologist seeks to identify the “origin of distortion” and use brain-based postural correction techniques to improve posture and motor output.The motor cortex controls voluntary movement on the opposite side of the body. The sensory cortex integrates and processes sensory information. When the sensory cortex receives a message it processes what that message means and what to do about it.What can you do to improve your posture immediately?Take consistent posture breaks. Stand up and do the opposite of what you are doing. Raise your hands. Take your eyes off the device and look at bright natural light in a green space. Take a power stance and smile. In essence, relax in a way that makes sense to your nervous system by extension. Take a 2 - 3 hour break from technology every day. Use your brain and release your imagination. It's important to spend time outside. Your brain develops better in that environment. (This is especially important for children)Participate in consistent exercise or movement for 20 - 30 minutes every day. You are stimulating mitochondrial DNA to lengthening telomeres which increases your quality of life. Your body continues to grow and not grow stagnant. Otherwise you lose you connection to the outside world. You don't have to run a marathon or lift heavy weights. As we enter Black History Month, it's important we remember ways to encourage and elevate underrepresented sellers. Only 20% of sales professionals are people of color; this month is the perfect time to acknowledge that discrepancy and take steps to a more diverse sales community. So on today's episode of Selling in Color, Donald details three simple ways to elevate underrepresented sellers. Utilize LinkedIn to highlight someone. A previous Selling in Color guest, DeJuan Brown (check out his episode here), used to make weekly LinkedIn posts highlighting others in his community. Hiring managers say they don't know any people of color or that no people of color choose to apply for open positions. So DeJuan made a point to expose these people to people of color. Give a lead or help a sales rep thrive. A recent guest A.J. Vassar stated that we need to connect more. And that the first thing we should ask is, “what are you trying to accomplish this week, month, and year?” If you help enough people, you'll eventually get what you want. Reciprocity is real. 3 Simple ways to practice acting on your intuition! Follow your intuition with no data and no emotions. How is this possible, especially when you are surrounded by data and have a desire to have it turn out a specific way! Key Points: Three ways to hone your intuition. Hone your sense of direction: Relax and build trust by getting lost with no rush or access to data trust you will find your way. Have someone blindfold you. Go an indirect way so you can't logically get your way out. Try a confusing large subdivision or middle of the country. Have no timeline or access to maps or GPS. Allow your intuition to guide you home. Take a deck of playing cards, shuffle them well. Relax, release logic, judgment, and desire to succeed. See if you get an image or words or know that a specific card will be flipped over. Write down what card you feel will be next (Ace of Diamonds) Flip the top card over; does it match? write down what the card was. (If you feel it would be Ace fo Diamonds, but 5 of Spades came up, write both don side by side. Repeat: intuitive feel what the next card will be. *Make sure in the Card deck exercise you write down the card you feel will be next and what came up next to each other. You may find that you are feeling two cards ahead of what comes up. You are building data points. Follow the messages to contact people. When you get the message to contact someone follow through as soon as possible. Keep a record of who you called and what happened. The idea is to build trust without data or emotions. Be watchful of judging yourself and see this as a practice. Learning anything new comes with practice, as does trust and recognizing our intuition.
