On this episode, I release the full recording from our third ever live podcast show. It was filmed at the Just Trek Podcast 5 Year Anniversary celebration on Sat, April 5th at the Happier Cafe by TADAA.Coffee space in Frogtown, Los Angeles. The live podcast show featured an all star panel of previous podcast guests that included Joshua Walker (outdoor content creator + travel blogger), Nicole Snell (CEO of Girls Right Back, Founder of Outdoor Defense), Victor Martinez (Founder of The LA Trail Killers), and Jaclyn Cosgrove  (Outdoor Reporter at the LA Times), and myself as the moderator. It was an entertaining and impactful group conversation that definitely left a major impression on the audience. We chatted about what sparked their love for the Great Outdoors,  the importance of solo exploring, their most memorable outdoor adventures + travel experiences, and what the historic LA fires have taught them.  After the group discussion, we opened up a live Q&A to the audience so that everyone could join in on the fun and ask the guests their own questions and show them some love.________________________This episode is brought to you by HIGHLANDER Adventure.

Intro Join me as I interview Joshua Walker who has quite the inspirational story to share which he also shares in detail in his new book Venti Fried Chicken. Josh used to work in the military and was essentially homeless at one point but is now thriving in the tech world. His story is also inspirational because even though he is a Cloud engineer, he has also been involved in leadership groups in Orlando and is currently Vice President of one such group that is aiming to get 10,000 minorities into the world of technology by 2025, so he doesn't just stay in a cubicle for sixteen hours a day. He is active in his community working to make a real difference! Josh was actually already working remotely prior to the COVID-19 pandemic but is now, like many of us, working strictly remotely, and he discusses what that has been like and how remote work is going to continue to change the world, especially the tech world. He also provides some advice on how to make remote work especially effective in today's age, and he offers his opinion regarding what makes people in the tech industry successful, saying that it's important to have empathy for yourself because the world of technology is a world that requires skill. He also, however, lives by the open mindset that anyone can become involved in the world of technology because there are so many different aspects of it which is how he goes about getting people involved in the technology sector – appealing to their individualized interests. He also shares what he thinks makes technology leaders effective leaders, such as the ability to set an example. He advises that you shouldn't ask people to do things that you wouldn't do yourself, and he reiterates the importance of having empathy - empathy for people who work under you. Josh discusses his book Venti Fried Chicken and shares how long it took to develop, so be sure to check that out as well as his website, and remember to subscribe to Tech Leader Talk so that you never miss an episode!   Time Stamps [0:07] – Steve introduces this episode's guest, Josh Walker, and provides us with a little bit of background information about the guest. I’ve never met a person that works in a corporate environment, runs a nonprofit and is also an activist, let alone two…until now.  In this episode of I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY my co-host Chris and I talk to his good friends Emily and Joshua Walker two technology professionals who are advocates for creating equitable pathways for Black and Brown people to work in STEM-based jobs. A Digital Marketing expert, Emily is helping spearhead change in the organizational culture of the company she works for, alongside her colleagues. She explains that there is usually a lot of Diversity at the bottom of the org chart, but it’s important to have everyone in the company be part of creating solutions to the lack of diverse representation in the higher rankings. Joshua who is an Honorable Army Vet turned techie, shares why he wrote his book “Venti Fried Chicken” to inspire real (and diverse) people to get into technology after he went through the experience of becoming a self-taught technician. As an active Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion leader in the company he works for, he told them “You know I’m going to continue to be myself, right?”, before he accepted to take on this responsibility. Then he describes the role Japan has played in East Asia since the end of the Second World War and the role the country can play now as the world moves from a transatlantic century to a transpacific century. News came out last week that lawmakers in Japan are pushing for the country to have the right to strike missile-launch sites in North Korea and China, but Walker explains why these headlines are misleading. He also discusses Japan’s Self Defense Forces and the prospects of the country changing its constitution so that it can have a more normalized military force and presence. Then Melton and Walker talk about how America’s alliance with both South Korea and Japan has traditionally provided stability for the region and the current status of those relationships. The two also cover how Japan is caught in the crossfire of the US-China rivalry, along with how the people of Japan view both countries. Walker finishes with analysis about what might happen with US-Japan relations if Joe Biden becomes president, how Shinzo Abe has been able to manage relations well with Donald Trump, and the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic forcing the 2020 Olympics in Japan to happen in 2021 instead.

It's not just your imagination. Data breaches are occurring more often than they used to, said network security expert Josh Walker. In this episode of the Software and Technology Podcast, host Tyler Kern sat down with Josh Walker, a web engineer turned digital marketing manager for APCON, to discuss why high-performance network visibility is growing more critical every day. Oregon-based APCON offers network visibility and intelligent networking monitoring solutions for enterprise and midsize businesses. These network monitoring solutions provide visibility, improve security, and optimize monitoring tools' efficiency for any network environment. “More and more data is being posted for sale on the dark web,” Walker said. “And most companies don't know it's happening.” In fact, U.S. companies are being attacked up to 33 times a day, Walker said. Furthermore, the 2019 Cloud Adoption & Risk Report shows organizations experienced on average 31.3 cloud-related security threats each month, a 27.7% increase over the same period last year. It's clear that hacking is a major threat that is increasing every day, but, with the right tools, vulnerabilities and holes can be found and patched, and data theft can be prevented. For example, as data and applications move to the cloud, network security is shifting and growing to meet those capabilities and security challenges that come along with it. “It's up to us to fill those holes before they're even breached,” Walker said.
