Happy Thursday Worthiness Warriors. This episode is really special to me because my good friend Autumn is joining us today. Autumn Lynne is a life coach and author. She helps women who've realized that something isn't working anymore but don't know where to start making a change. Back in 2014, her proverbial carton of eggs had dropped and splattered all over the floor. Autumn didn't know who she was, didn't know what she wanted, and didn't have a clue what to do next. She applied what became the Fresh Start Formula to herself. One decision at a time, Autumn became a woman who prioritizes herself, who makes time for the things she enjoys, and who knows what she wants her life to look like. In Autumn's book, “How Do You Like Your Eggs?” she takes you through her Formula and helps you create your very own Fresh Start, one decision at a time. You can find more about Autumn here on her website, and purchase her book here. You can find more information about Book to Business with Autumn and Lin Eleoff here. If you want to work with me 1-on-1 with me click here. Join me at the next retreat on the Oregan Coast in May!! Thank you, and have a beautiful rest of your day. I'll see you next week.
You know what they say... We all have a book in us! We all have knowledge to share and a story to tell. Within your business, there is MANY concepts you teach. Why not think about how they can be turned into a book? Just like a blog, podcast or video series, a book is a way to connect with your audience in more "long-form" ways. Within the podcast episode with Lin Eleoff (Author and Coach), you will learn just how a book can help with your marketing strategy for your business (and how you can use this book to create content online). Are you a giver or a receiver? When you give, do you give everything away? Or choose what you want to share? Sharing is caring, but you can never be 100% selfless as an entrepreneur. Words of wisdom into books become your money-making and influence tool to propel your business even further, which is why Lin Eleoff tells you prudence! A book does not have to be a novel nor become a multi-billionaire by writing books— the book you write is the amalgamation of your experience and learning. It is why writing your book shows the might of your mind! Resource Lin Eleoff's Site Lin Eleoff's Official WebsiteLin Eleoff's LinkedInAmazon Book/Podcast
Lin Eleoff Says: I never wanted to be that lawyer. You know, the kind with the corner office in a fancy schmancy law firm. The kind who pretends to be happy with her life while working 60 and 80 hours a week. The kind whose mind is focused solely on “billable hours.” And making partner. And looking the part. Just the thought of being that kind of lawyer makes want to do my favorite TV lawyer impersonation and scream, “I object.” I’m the kind of lawyer that wants to help you avoid having to hire a lawyer because you suddenly find yourself in legal hot water. I want to show you ways to do a lot of the “legal stuff” yourself, so that when you’re ready to hire a lawyer, you’ll have done most of the work already. Ta-da… fewer billable hours! My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is lady with many different plates spinning at one time. She is an internet business lawyer whose mission is to show business owners like us how to cover our "assets" online without having to spend a lot of money on legal fees. As the founder of Cover Your Assets Online.Com she has created a Do It yourself Legal Toolkit so that entrepreneurs could protect not only their business assets but their homes, cars and investments Which is all interesting stuff, but what has lead her to this point Well her first career was as a TV news reporter and anchor in Toronto, where she won a couple of CanPro awards as well as a New York Film Festival award for news documentary, which delved into the topic of adoption. When her husband's career took them to the U.S, she decided to switch careers and follow her long time dream of going to law school. She applied to the Roger Williams School of Law, which was 20 minutes from her house in Providence, RI. and practised for several years and then decided she wanted to be a coach. So internet laywer, business coach how do these things join up together. Well, i suppose at her heart she is a fixer. She loves to see an issue and bring a solution to the table As she says "I became a coach at the age of six, when I saw my parents fighting for the first time. I remember thinking, ‘I can fix this, if they would just listen to me.' As an attorney, I always wanted to help people fix their lives so they wouldn't need to hire me again. As a TV news reporter, I was always drawn to the personal interest stories. I'm a big sap, but I've come to believe that I have a duty to get my ass to Happy and have learned how to do that. I was born to help others do the same, to get up off their asses to live lives that are on fire (instead of being burnt out). So where shall we start today, talking about how to get happy, confident, or internet law......well in a normal fashion I think we will tackle all of them! So why is internet law so obviously a hot topic but so few people are offering this service? And is she living the life of her dreams, or with so much going on is she running around screaming "People, I can't do it all on my own!?" Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Lin Eleoff Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Lin Eleoff such as: She reveals how she has had to have times of darkness in her life, to allow her to savour the light more than she could ever hope to. Why she always has had the urge to create her own rules, and do things her own way even though she doesn't understand why she does it.. How she managed to create her first business, by searching the world of virtual law firms to find what excites her. And then taking huge consistent action. and lastly…. Why so many people lose their confidence during their life journey, and more often than not its down to them playing by others rules, and not their owns.
"I find that I'm the most alive when I'm riding the fear wave... turning the tips of my skis straight down the fall line and going for it. It's a lot easier than resisting." ~Jennifer Gardner, on facing fear Shownotes: http://roamhowl.com/014 As a follow-up to Episode 011 on My Struggle with Perfectionism, I did some research and reflection on practical strategies for dealing with this very common tendency that can stop us from doing just about everything. Here is what I came up with: Get out of your head. Mindset, meditation, and the value of sleeping on it, without over thinking. "When a bad thought comes up, whether I'm meditating or not, I acknowledge it and then I tell it 'Thank you,' and 'Please go away.'" ~Jennifer Gardner, on mindset and meditation Face your fear and do it anyway. Mitch Jackson (Episode 003) interviews Seth Godin in this video. Here's a quote: "The safest thing to do is to play it risky, to stand up, to ask questions, to lead, to connect, and to make art." ~Seth Godin No regrets! Lin Eleoff talks about how her definition of success is living a life with no regrets in Episode 013. "If I'm constantly obsessed with being perfect all the time... I'll be sitting on the bench or sitting on the fence or sitting on my @ss instead of being in the game, and I don't want to sit there! I want to play the game. Full out." ~Jennifer Gardner, on missing the moment Connect with Jennifer Facebook, @jenbgardner on Twitter Email me here. Lin Eleoff is an internet business lawyer who shows women how to turn a coaching practice into a business that not only makes them money but makes them happy. And it starts when they finally “woman up.” Lin calls starting your own business an AFGO, another freaking growth opportunity, “because it throws everything at us. The question is, are we up for that challenge? I tell my coaching clients: this isn't just a plaything. If you are serious about this, you are going to have to ‘woman up.’ That means becoming a businesswoman as well as being a coach.”
‘The waters of the internet are infested with sharks!’ By virtue of having a website, online solopreneurs are vulnerable to lawsuits and scammers. Many of us stick our heads in the sand and hope it will never happen to us, but there are a number of protections we can put in place to minimize the risk. Today’s guest is prepared to arm you with the information you need to navigate those shark-infested waters and understand the fundamental legal aspects of online business ownership. Internet business lawyer Lin Eleoff is the founder of Cover Your Assets Online, a service that teaches solopreneurs to cover their ‘assets’ without having to spend an arm and a leg on legal fees. She offers a DIY Legal Toolkit that allows online entrepreneurs to prepare key documents themselves, as well as done-for-you services and consulting. Lin never wanted to be one of those ‘billable hours’ attorneys in the corner office; she was looking for a new way to practice law. She saw a huge need in the area of internet law for entrepreneurs, so she became an entrepreneur herself and created an online coaching venture to empower business owners with crucial legal information. Today she shares the common mistakes made by online solopreneurs, the legal documents you can prepare on your own, and her best legal advice for online business owners. Part of establishing yourself and our business as leaders is creating content. Unfortunately, most small businesses believe anything on the internet is fair game and can be used for your own purposes. The law doesn't care about you not knowing the law so it's no excuse to now know what you don't know. So how do we not get ourselves into hot water? My guest Lin Eleoff talks us through what we need to do to stay compliant and have a hassle free, creative business.
Jennifer Gardner interviews lawyer and coach Lin Eleoff about internet business law, the DIY Legal Toolkit, masterminds, redefining success, personal growth and her Gutsy Rulebook for learning how to live your life by your own set of rules. http://roamhowl.com/013 “I really do think success is not having any regrets." ~Lin Eleoff Lin Eleoff is an internet business lawyer and personal and business coach who helps women step up, show up, and (most importantly) "woman up!" Highlights from the Episode The story of how Lin & Jennifer connected, plus the origin of the name “RoamHowl.” Lin's first career was broadcasting -- she even wrote a letter to a local television station at age 11 saying she could "help them out" and asking for a job. Lin's motto - “no excuses, no regrets!” "Years from now, when I look back at my life. If I have a regret or I’m making excuses, then I will have disappointed myself." ~Lin Eleoff How Lin had no desire to work for a big law firm with small kids at home -- she wanted to start own practice but saw what her colleagues in private practice were going through and realized she didn’t want to run the office — she just wanted to practice law. The "gaping hole" she saw in the market where online entrepreneurs didn’t really know how to protect themselves in terms of "internet law," intellectual property, contracts, privacy, etc. Lin's DIY Legal Toolkit as an answer to the following observations: "People are 1) afraid to hire a lawyer, and 2) think they don’t need to." ~Lin Eleoff Lin's passion for supporting women in building their online businesses from scratch and answering their inner 6-year-old who has big dreams of changing the world. Deep insight into Lin's coaching process - take away everything except the facts — separate from the drama and emotion - and then from there you can decide what to do. How challenges in life and work can be looked at as “AFGOs” - another freaking growth opportunity. The power of groups and masterminds. How Lin uses online marketing to find her dream clients clients. "I get up in the morning and literally I skip to work — which is just a few feet down the hall on the right. It’s great!” ~Lin Eleoff Lin's coach training with Martha Beck and how that led her to "...figure out a new way to be a lawyer.” Chris Ducker's advice to embrace everything you've done up to this point of becoming an entrepreneur and the repercussions of hiding those parts of ourselves, and not living our authentic truth. Lin's Gutsy Rule Book for how she rewrote the rules we THINK are our rules, but are not — audit, rewrite and live by them. Learning more from failures than successes. The biggest piece of advice she wishes she'd had earlier in her entrepreneurial journey and Lin’s definition of success — hint — it’s not about money or possessions "I could never have charted this path. I could never have predicted it, but here I am and I just love what I’m doing." ~Lin Eleoff Help Us Spread the Word! Thank you so much for listening and I hope you enjoyed the show. Lin has written what she calls “The New Rules” for women who are ready to WOMAN UP in all aspects of their lives, something she says takes GUTS, GRIT, and GRACE. Lin Eleoff is an Internet startup lawyer, but she's more than that — she's the kind of lawyer that wants to help you avoid having to hire a lawyer, especially when you're just trying to grow your business, and money is tight. That means she doesn't want you to hire her; she wants to show you how you can do a lot of the legal legwork yourself. Her "DIY Legal Toolkit" not only answers your legal questions, it provides you with checklists, templates, and the law you need to know about in order to "cover your assets online." Online entrepreneurs don't know what they don't know, and that means they're exposing themselves to liability, and they're putting their personal assets at risk. Playing Small Moment Lin says playing small for her was when she attempted to be all things to all people. The Wake Up Call Lin started her online business without knowing what she was doing. After some time, she made a 46-step checklist that she made into a book. A book she wished she had had access to when she first started her business. Style of Leadership Lin would like to be a leader who leads with grace, to enable those who have the guts and the grit to go for it. She throws in some humor and some sarcasm, just to lighten things up. What Are You Excited About? Lin is really excited about her new Mind, Body, Business Freedom Mastermind. She wants to make an affordable community for women who want to find success when starting their own online businesses. Current Business Challenge Lin says it has been challenging finding a group of like-minded women who are willing to go all-in. Your Support System Lin belongs to a high-level Mastermind Group, she has a business coach, a virtual assistant, and a tech support system. Leadership Practice Asking questions is Lin’s practice that makes her a better leader. Book to Develop Leadership The Dance of Anger, by Harriet Lerner The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz Advice For Younger Self “You are on the right track. Why do all the hard work to build up financial security if you're not going to protect it, right? So the point of today's episode is to express that the same principle applies to your business, too; you've got to make sure you and your business are legally protected from any unforeseen lawsuits, so you're not blindsided into losing what you've worked for. For this advice, we're thrilled to welcome attorney Lin Eleoff. Lin Eleoff discusses how you should go about protecting your business
Lin Eleoff, internet business lawyer and founder of CoverYourAssetsOnline.com, shares insights on how business owners can protect their assets online - without having to spend a lot of money on legal fees. Learn how to assess and reduce your internet business risks, and take action to protect your websites and other critical online assets.
You may have slaved over your business plan and every aspect of your day-to-day, but have you properly considered how exposed you might be to copyright violation? This can work both ways. Maybe your web-builder built your site using illegal images, or maybe somebody else ripped off your content. With either scenario, the consequences can be extremely costly, so that’s why we’ve invited Lin Eleoff onto this week’s show. Lin’s background is an interesting one, having originally started out as a lawyer who then became a full-time life coach. She now uses her legal background to advise businesses about how to cover themselves, and has multiple companies across life coaching and legal services. Lin kindly shared a lot of valuable advice, so see below for the highlights: ** The first company to register a company name has the right to keep it. ** Be careful of the term ‘royalty free’. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you can use the image for free – it just means that the price of an image doesn’t increase if it is used multiple times. ** If you receive a letter pursuing you for copyright infringement, check the detail of it to make sure it isn’t a scam, i.e. find proof that the person pursuing you is indeed the legal owner of the asset they are pursuing you about. ** If your own company website is infringing copyright laws but you didn’t know about it, you – as the business owner – are still responsible. Always double-check the work of your site builders/content managers. ** Registering a trademark doesn’t automatically mean that you can forget about the issue. It’s still up to you to find instances of infringement and then pursue the offenders. ** Before you pay for legal action against a website that is wrongly using your assets, contact the site’s hosting ISP and ask them to take it down. In this episode of Business Brain Food you will learn: ** The definition of ‘Royalty Free’ ** Zero creative commons licenses explained ** The consequences of copying and pasting content ** DMCA takedown notices ** The difference between TM and (R) ** How to react when there is a case against you Resources mentioned in this episode: ** Ben’s photography website: http://www.onthreelegs.com ** Ben’s recommended stock photo library: https://graphicriver.net/ ** Lin’s Gutsy Glorious Life-coaching Radio: link here ** Lin’s DIY Legal Toolkit: http://www.diylegaltoolkit.com ** Lin’s person site: http://www.coveryourassetsonline.com ** Ben’s Daily Business Tips: http://www.dbtpodcast.com ** Facebook: facebook.com/businessbrainfood ** Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/businessbrainfood ** Twitter: https://twitter.com/bfewtrell ** ActionCOACH: http://actioncoachanz.com/itunes ** ActionCOACH: http://actioncoachanz.com/stitcher According to Lin, if you use the DIY Legal Toolkit, you can achieve nearly all of the cover you need without having to pay for legal advice.
